CONGRESSMAN FROM THE STATE OF MARYLAND, POTENTIALLY THE NEXT HEAD OF THE HOUSE FREEDOM CAUCUS. ONE OF THE MOST CONSERVATIVE GROUPS HERE IN WASHINGTON, CONGRESSMAN ANDY HARRIS. CONGRESSMAN, THANKS FOR BEING WITH US ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON HERE ON THE HILL. APPRECIATE IT. YEAH. SO DONALD TRUMP SAYS NO TAX ON OVERTIME. COMES AFTER NO TAX ON TIPS. NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY, YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS IS THAT CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES OF OF LOWERING TAXES OR IS THIS JUST GIVING THINGS AWAY IN AN ELECTION SEASON? >> WELL, IT'S A LITTLE BIT OF BOTH OF THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS ENCOURAGING OVERTIME IS A BAD IDEA BECAUSE I'D ENCOURAGE IS OVERALL INCREASE IN OUR GDP. I'M SURE HE'S TALKING ABOUT INCOME TAXES, STILL PAY PAYROLL TAXES AND HONESTLY, IT'S SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE. THAT THINGS THAT THE GREATEST NEED OF HELP RIGHT NOW. SO WITH THE DEVIL'S ALWAYS IN THE DETAILS, BUT, YOU KNOW, ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO WORK MORE IS NEVER A PROBLEM. >> BUT WHAT ABOUT I MEAN, THERE WAS AN ATLANTA AND ANALYSIS TODAY THAT SAID THIS COULD BE UPWARDS THAT NO TAX ON OVER TIME OF OVER 300 BILLION DOLLARS OVER THE COURSE OF A DECADE, MAYBE 600 BILLION DOLLARS. YOU KNOW, CONGRESSMAN, WHETHER IT'S BEEN A DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS, THEY LOVE NOTHING MORE THAN SPENDING DONALD TRUMP AT THAT. TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT AT ONE POINT IN TIME AND NOW HE WANTS THIS. IS THAT ACCEPTABLE TO YOU POTENTIALLY AS THE HEAD OF THE HOUSE FREEDOM CAUCUS? >> WELL, WE DEFINITELY HAVE A SPENDING PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THAT WE DON'T TAX ENOUGH. THE PROBLEM IS WE SPEND TOO MUCH SO I'M ALL FOR LOWER TAXES AND WHATEVER WAY WE CAN. BUT WHAT WE HAVE TO DO IS GET SPENDING UNDER CONTROL. THERE'S NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. >> LET ME ASK ABOUT TARIFFS. DONALD TRUMP WITH THE 300 BILLION IN TARIFFS. GIVE OR TAKE THAT. YOU KNOW, IT'S A ROUND NUMBER DURING HIS ADMINISTRATION. PRESIDENT BIDEN HAS KEPT IT ALL. AND NOW HE WANTS MORE. YOU ONCE HAD SOME CONCERNS BACK IN 2018. HERE'S WHAT YOU SAID. CONGRESSMAN ISSA TEREX THAT HARRIS COULD BE AN EFFECTIVE METHOD TO ACQUIRE NEEDED RETURN REFORM, RATHER, HOWEVER, SOME PRODUCTS USE IN AMERICAN MANUFACTURING ARE ONLY AVAILABLE FROM CHINA. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT WHAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW AS IT RELATES TO WHAT IS GOING ON FROM BOTH SIDES. IS ACCEPTABLE. >> WELL, LOOK, FACT OF THE MATTER IS, YOU KNOW, THE PRESIDENT THE VICE PRESIDENT, THEY SHOULD GET MAGA HATS BECAUSE NOW THEY'RE DOING EXACTLY WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP, DON. LOOK, WE HAVE TO CONFRONT CHINA WHEN THEY'RE NON COMPETITIVE AND WHEN IT DOESN'T DEAL WITH SOMETHING THAT WE CAN GET FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE. FACT OF THE MATTER IS YOU CAN MAKE AN ELECTRICAL ELECTRIC VEHICLE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. IF WE IF WE DO THAT, HOWEVER, TO SOME OF THE RARE EARTHS CHINA CONTROLS, WELL, THAT WOULD THAT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM. SO YOU MAY HAVE TO BE A LITTLE A LITTLE SELECTIVE IN THE TERRACE, BUT PUTTING A TARIFF ALL SOME OF THE THINGS THAT THEY DUMP IN THE UNITED STATES THAT ARE SUBSIDIZED LITTLE SELECTIVE BECAUSE TODAY WAS 18 BILLION. YOU COULD SAY THAT'S A LITTLE SELECTIVE AND I COULD COME BACK AT YOU AND SAY THAT'S 18. >> BILLION. WELL, I AGAIN, THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THERE SOME THINGS THAT I STAND BY WHAT I WHAT FELT IN 2018, THERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU CAN ONLY GET FROM CHINA THAT ARE THAT ARE KEY TO OUR MANUFACTURING. NOW, THE GOAL IS ACTUALLY TO NOT MAKE THEM. THAT'S ALL SOURCE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE OTHER SOURCES. BUT THOSE THINGS. >> BUT UNTIL WE GET THERE WITH FACT MATTER IS THERE'S SOME THINGS WE HAVE NO OTHER SOURCE POOR. >> LET ME ASK YOU, LET ME ASK YOU BEFORE YOU RUN, CONGRESSMAN, YOU COULD BE THE NEXT HEAD POTENTIALLY OF THE HOUSE FREEDOM CAUCUS. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT REPUBLICANS WILL BE ABLE TO AVOID A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN AND DO YOU THINK SHUTDOWNS ARE USEFUL TOOLS OR NOT? >> THERE WILL NOT BE A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN NOW, YOU KNOW, ONE MONTH BEFORE AN ELECTION THAT I CAN TELL WHETHER WHETHER IT'S A USEFUL TOOL WHEN WE'RE FURTHERWAY FROM AN ELECTION, THEY MIGHT THINK.
