We knew we would get spaces in wide areas. Jack is capable of many things so I try not to look solely on positions. just about Gish today you brought him back into the side playing it LO like playing wi talk us through um well we knew that we were going to potentially get some spaces in wide areas um so the the the conventional or or what you may think is is a normal number 10 um Jack's different to that I think he's he's capable of going into wide areas and receiving the ball but he's also just as as comfortable coming deeper um so yeah I think um I try not to look too much um like on on positions and and positional but it's more the attributes of the players um so you know you you see at the end of the game there angel coming on Angels a 10 who can play as a six or an eight so I try not to get too bogged down with you know just cuz they've got a number 10 on means they have to play behind the striker okay Nothing about the national anthem affected my preparations. I’ve never sung it. Today was one of the proudest days of my career. I don’t feel hard done by or aggrieved. It doesn’t make me or anyone else less committed. Samy can I um ask you how you felt today a big day you in your in your career but being overshadowed slightly by by um the the story about the The Anthem how did that how first of all how have you found the reaction to that yeah and how has that affected your day at all your preparations no no it's definitely not affected my day or my preparations I I I found out about it this morning um you I fully respect people's opinions um it's it's something that I've I've never done um but I fully respect the the the both national anthems um today would be probably one of the priest days of my career um to lead an England team out in Dublin um you know you definitely couldn't have R it um but you know I don't um I don't feel hard done by or AG grieved um I respect everyone's opinion you know I've I've played in teams out there where where players are B in the The Anthem out next to me um but also you know I've played in teams where where people you know players don't sing or or coaches you know I don't think it makes me or or anyone that doesn't any less committed you know um like I say we were um I was looking forward so much to today um yeah and and it's it's the proudest day of my my football career it's um you know you couldn't have WR it really you know I I send the draw a while back and I thought to myself that's going to be that's going to be a really good game and then if you fast forward and then you know two weeks ago you know when when you it it it it sinks in that okay yeah I'm going to take over the team first game's in Dublin you know you're like you know I knew it was going to be um you know a good experience but b a bit of a test also Jack pit Brook it looked on the TV for a half time you stay to do analysis work rather than going back into the dressing Withers can you clarify what your process was at half time when when do you mean after coming out early you mean or uh just it just looked from the footage that we saw as if you were looking at looking atad looking at yeah so the the the the iPad I make a lot of notes before and during the game. I try not to give the team too much info during the half time. that I've got is just is just in instead of taking a a pen and pen and paper so um I make a lot of notes before the game um on on shapes that that they the opposition might do so obviously with with this with this job we have a lot of thinking time so um I'm constantly looking at if if they change to a four this is how we can build if they change to a three this is how we can build so um it was just jogging my memory to be honest also that you know when when we when I go into half time I try not to give them players too much information but try and give them two three bullet points that are really going to affect the second half so um it's that was probably just a bit of cating what what's going to be important to to say to the players and did you then go speakers yeah oh yeah yeah yeah congratulations just the controversy yeah and on thep of you po BEC manager do you look at you know reflect on these headlines and find yourself at the center of this and wonder yeah like like I said earlier I fully I fully respect people’s opinions on the national anthem. There is, of course, judgement in this role. respect people's opinions um you know it doesn't you know I would never I would never judge anyone for doing you know s singing or not um you know I had um a great experience when I played for the rep Republic of Ireland um and I'm I'm having a really good experience now in terms of the um the the responsibility that I've got of of of being head coach in for the for the senior team so I think I think you've probably got to accept that you know with that does come a bit of bit of judgment um like I said I think I think it's um it's something that I don't I don't feel hardly done by um I respect everyone's opinion um and we move forward Jacob yeah what you've seen today does that make you think this is where he's going to be going forward and the way yeah yeah well I think yeah that's We have to get the best out of the players. Full backs now are like midfield players. Thought Trent was very good today. that's one one of the points that we try and make with all of the players is getting the best out of them um putting them in in familiar positions that they play at their clubs so if you've if you've seen Trent play this season you know it was very similar to the way we asked him to play today in terms of when we built he often went Central with uh with cobby and deck went a little bit higher or wider um you know I think one of the what what what we've noticed especially within the the pathway of players that we've got the the fullbacks now are almost like Midfield players they've got all the attributes of of midfielders and Trent definitely falls into the into that bracket I thought he was I thought he was very good today I thought he got a little bit tired at the end so I thought he was positive performance genten that was obviously a lot of focus as well on yeah yeah I'm I'm I'm pleased with it Jack and Dec knew it would be hostile. We handled it very well. Great for them to score the goals. but not surprised um I think they they're both they' both been in football long enough now to to understand that and and respectfully that that it was going to be a little bit um hostile at times but in the right way I thought I thought the fans were really respectful with it um I thought that they both handled the the the atmosphere as as did the whole team um we tried to speak about you know it's going to you know it's going to be it's going to be um High tempo for everyone not just not just uh deck and and Jack and but I thought you obviously it's great for them too that they've scored the goals um but more importantly that the teams won and and they've kept to clean sheet to um we prepared that they were going to play five at the back or three at the back however you want to um look at it um we knew that they were going to be Compact and difficult to to play against um in terms of not leaving much space I think um you know they've got some really talented players within the team especially the the the subs that came on as well I think they really helped um obviously um you know they've got they've got their work cut out with a with a new manager that's going to need time to bed in his own ideas in but I think it's good that he's got a couple of coaches with him that understand the the players and and have worked with him in the past so it's um you know it's it's it's h it's probably a tough a tough um first first game for for the manager but um it's give him chance now I don’t have any say on captaincy as interim manager. to have a look at the players and and make his own mind up James I yeah yeah I think I think John was Vice Captain um so I think just just out of respect um John coming on and and taking over the arm so I'm not I would't say he refused it I think he just seen that that John was John was next in line so that was the case you made any changes no no no no I don't I don't think I don't think it would be fair for me to do that to be honest I think that's for a that's for a permanent head coach to do I think um you know for me to come in in my first camp and change leadership team around and um I I'm not sure that's my role thank you ofall first half 83% posession build that Cars ball? It’s the players. I’m lucky that I’m the coach. The players need to take all of the credit. car it's definitely not it's definitely not that um I think you you know I it's definitely not my style it's the players it's the players um that are capable of of of receiving the ball in tight areas and playing um and playing through you know I'm just lucky that that at the minute I'm I'm coaching them but it's you know I I definitely don't see this as as my style it's it's they should take all of the credit for for the way that they've and we've been here for four sessions so um but you could see that they were trying to do the right things and um you know I think you know we can be we can be really pleased with the start what we made Paul fin a couple of very quick questions did you accidentally go into the Irish t i I did I did go down the tunnel and turn right I spend a lot of time on the bench so I knew exactly where that is! I did go down the tunnel and turn right um as you know I spent a lot of time on the bench so um I I know I know exactly where that is um but yeah yeah I thought yeah I don't wasn't no no it was uh no I just yeah and then I realized that no one was on there and that the other coaches were on the other bench so it was quickly resolved so and um were you surprised at how easy it was for England particularly in the first half mean my colle said possession yeah to be that easy well I think with the I think sometimes the you know the The Possession one can We had a lot of the ball but didn’t pepper their goal. Against better teams with Ireland you had to sit in. It certainly didn’t feel easy from the side. be quite misleading you know even though we had if it is 80% I've not seen the stats yet but even we have had a lot of the ball I didn't feel like we we're peppering the goal I didn't think like their goal was under under massive threat a lot of it was in front of him and you know from a game plan point of view you know remember playing in myself and and sometimes against um sometimes better teams we would you would have to sit in be well organized and play on a Counterattack and I thought I thought at times that that Ireland did that well so um but now I wouldn't it didn't feel easy from the side um it did it definitely didn't feel easy okay the Irish coach is waiting to come in so have to finish it one at the back just a quick one really just you said he set up to predict almost come out defense that allow you to set up allow extra players ofun almost run well I think when when when um you know when I thought I thought that they may do that because of what John done in Ireland’s formation. I knew they’d play five at the back. the past as well in terms of when he was when he was caretaker and and the you know understanding the role of you've only got two three days preparation maximum um because of the physical element that you have to worry about as well I I just assume that they may play a five and then when when you do play a five there's going to be space somewhere because obviously you got an extra player backwards so it was trying to just work out quite quickly we had two or three ways that depending on what what what they did where we could try and exploit but um yeah I didn't um I still I still thought it was you know quite um difficult to break break Island down with the way that they set up J sorry to disappoint those are are waiting as well thanks
