gerod Mayo disturbing for some Patriots fans that he has decided to go with jacobe brassett over Drake May here's Mayo from yesterday explaining his decision at who the starting quarterback will be we have decided or I have decided that Jobe Brett will be our starting quarterback uh this season now in saying that as an organization we're 100% behind jacobe there is no um you know you got a guy right here you got a guy right there we're 100% behind jacobe and um I I had an opportunity to talk to Drake I had an opportunity to talk to jacobe separately and also together um and I feel like we're all on the same page from an organizational perspective you know we can't go into the season saying well he's going to go x amount of weeks like look as long as jobe's going out there performing the way that we all have confidence in him doing uh he'll be our quarterback this season Drake May responded to the news by saying I can't say I'm disappointed at the same time I want to be playing and one of the issues and Gerard Mayo spoke to this last week on the pregame radio broadcast before the preseason finale early on Drake May was too differential he's broken out of that shell and he's more competitive and asserting himself and that's part of what they wanted to see you want to see it happen organically so and look anytime you're the new kid you're going to be quiet you're going to watch you don't want to come in and just be a jerk and start telling people what to do you want to get your feet wet you want to get your sea legs you want to understand how you fit into this broader structure and I think that's what Drake May did and he's accelerated past that I think it's just a matter of time before he's the starter and it did catch my ear when gerod Mayo said we've decided no I've decided I don't know whether I'm going to say that was meaningless because it would be easy to start reading meaning into it and I don't know what the meaning would be when he says we've decided no I've decided regardless he said we're 100% behind jaob peret and they are and they will be until the moment that they aren't yeah one of your favorite lines Mike but it's it's accurate it's as long as jacobe Brett is leading them and they're winning games which I don't think's going to be very long he's going to be the quarterback and after that it's going to be Drake may I don't think he's gonna hold the starting position very long I do think Drake May is ready to be the starting quarterback of the Patriots I just don't think the Patriots are ready for him to be the starting quarterback based on how bad that offensive line is we talked yesterday about David Carr taking 76 starts as uh 76 sacks as a rookie and that just that killed his chances to become anything other than than what he became and maybe he still would have been that same guy but we'll never know I just think that destroyed his confidence so you don't want to do that with a rookie quarterback just have them getting pummeled and have no chance and they want to give Drake May a chance but I do think it's sooner and L sooner than later Mike that he will be the starting quarterback of the Patriots and replace jacobe br de okay you have a chance to win $1 million in the NBC sweep Stakes on Yahoo fantasy just download the redesign Yahoo fantasy app or go to nbcsports.com fantasy million for additional details what are you waiting for hi it's Mike Florio thanks for watching PFT on YouTube hit subscribe for the latest news and Analysis from pro football talk
