3,000 subscribers let's go let's go now the Vikings released their first unofficial depth chart yay let's get some ideas of where the players are at there'll be some surprises and some not so surprises let's talk about it I'm going bring it up and we'll go through it here we go here we go totally on on Q today here we go Vikings released first unofficial depth chart by Craig Peters and this is from vikings.com Ean Minnesota the Vikings Tuesday released their first unofficial depth chart of the 2024 um of 2024 days before hosting the Las Vegas Raiders to open the preseason the contest between the Vikings and Raiders schedule for 3 P.M Saturday at US Bank the NFL Network also air the game live on National cable television it's sweet the Vikings offense is listed in 21 personnel with two backs a running back and a fullback and the tight end for third consecutive season that leaves two spots at receiver along with quarterback and offensive line Vikings defense listed a three four base between the third consecutive season there are three defensive linemen two outside linebackers two inside linebackers two cornerbacks and two safeties here's a look at the players in order as they appear on The Unofficial depth chart and this is an order so there might be some surprises here might be some surprises but uh here we go we got the starter Sam darnold currently listed as a starter not a huge surprise but hey a little mo for JJ McCarthy uh Nick Mullen and jiren Hall are nowhere to be seen at second so JJ McCarthy list as second I think that was pretty obvious running backs Aaron Jones senior uh obvious uh leader in the clubhouse uh you know all you know pro bowler Ty Chandler solidifies himself as the second running back Kenny wongo miles Gaskins Dwayne McBride all right Dwayne MC ride still way down on the depth chart bubble player fullback starter CJ hams uh CJ ham that is just the main stay in our depth chart and the only fullback on the roster right now wide receivers got Justin Jefferson Jordan Addison now this is nice they got listed as backups and we talked about this on uh SC do his show house calls that I've been posting on Monday mornings jiren Hall and Brandon Brandon Powell and I think schoock uh said it himself is that they one-two punch at the three receiver spot third receiver spot that's great trishan Jackson hello you might make the team man might make the team then you got Deshawn Jones Trent sherfield uh lucky Jackson Tai James the Thomas and Malik nolles um some of these guys are returners I know theer Thomas said in college but he's kind of he's not the fastest guy in the world and played for Appalachian State Malik nolles um is a returner now starter TJ hackinson at tight end uh backups Josh Oliver Johnny Mt Nick Muse Robert tanion he had an injury earlier in Camp and uh I I kind of had him a dark horse Robert tanion kind of a little egg on my face there but uh he showed he's he's good this is a good tight end group got nille Harriet switch spot or switched uh from receiver to tight end uh Trey Knox Samus Reyes I think the only guys that have a shot are probably um well Josh Oliver Johnny Mont probably locks Nick M Robert tanion and nikelle Harry will be fighting for that four spot at tight end um if we keep uh five receivers and three tight ends nikelle Harry might be a nice little nice little um flexible roster spot on the uh on the game day roster but we'll see tackles um Christian jisan Brian O'Neal that's obvious um backups Walter Rouse and David quizenberry So Walter Rouse you know moving up the dep chart as a backup might make the might make the 51 or 53 man roster uh Jeremy FLA and Doug Nester rounded out interior offensive lineman we got Blake brandle Blake brandle at left guard that's been kind of obvious in Camp um I think uh we they talked about him being the starter even when they went out and got Dalton resner uh I think they maybe um waited till Dalton rner would accept the fact that he'd be competing for a job he's still is and I did see depth charts having him an ESPN at backup R guard uh we'll see Garrett Bradbury Center Ed Ingram Ray guard still have hope for him to be a solid starter in the NFL he got just handled in practice uh so did Garrett Bradbury um but that's occasionally happens just I I really want this offensive line to gel um but we do have depth back there and I do like David quizenberry and Dalton risner's backups this is a lot more depth than we've had even last year uh it was I give credit to quacy we had a terrible second offensive line they went out and got like a Dan quizenberry and it did help and he did see time so it was important that we did get him and then they just continued to to make sure that we had a a solid off you know at least a solid offense line at least with backups and I like it now back um Michael jurgenson Dan feny Dalton Ryner Tyrese Robinson uh Henry bird and Spencer Roland the I guess the it's not a surprise Michael jorens is backup left guard D riser's backup Right Guard I thought he only played left guard so this really means that we think um bre Blake brandle is more solid at left guard and that Dalton Riser is not backing him up but he's backing up Ed Ingram and I seen this on you know depth charts and it it does look that way the way get the way they got it listed because they got Dan phenias back up Center in the middle of those so that makes sense defense uh outside linebacker um Jonathan greenard grenard and Andrew van GLE I think these were probably good guesses to be the starters now backups um I don't this is a lot more death that we had in the past Pat Jones second and Dallas Turner now guy that's really Making Waves is uh Gabriel Murphy um and Jihad Ward is also there it looks like they got them kind of back to back Gabriel's backing up Pat is uh it's kind of like in order of pairs so but Gabriel Murphy is the guy that's been standing out Owen parter Andre Carter II Bo RoR Andre Carter II way down there in the dep chart and I had him as a dark horse to be out a little bit of a breakout player just because I thought he'd put on size strength um with a new NFL body but he's low on the dep chart maybe he's not working out maybe uh they didn't think maybe the outside linebacker position is just not his gig I don't know but he's down on the depth chart currently um still a project it looks like defensive line Jerry Tillery who had an injury but I guess he is fine now uh Harrison Phillips and jonth Bullard um you know they're putting the vets in there definitely putting the vets in there now backups on that sorry I had to sneeze back on that backups on that position James Lynch jquan Roy and Jonah Williams uh James Lynch all right um yeah they got him high up there when they brought you know brought him back um jry Tillery Harrison Phillips Jonathan bolard and our backup is James Lynch this might be a positional thing at D end and then you got Jonah Williams on the other side and then you got jqu um jquan Roy as the you know three technique um so I like the I like the jquan Roy as depth now Levi Rodriguez has jumped up the depth chart they got you notice they have uh the colon the semicolon um dividing these names up if you look closely you got James Lyn jino and JN Williams and then it's semicolon and then you got Levi Drake Rodriguez T Taki Tiani and Jaylen Redmond and then semi Tyler monoa so it kind of tells you the groups they're in like Tyler Mano is like fourth team and then Levi Drake Hernandez he's played with the ones but they got him as third team so he you know he has every opportunity to jump up this is not set in stone these guys are all fighting for backup spots but I think the top three are pretty solid um like hashman and Ivan Pace Jr that's kind of a a nice story you go from you go from udfa to starter in your second year and you started a few games in your first year uh Blake Cashman and Ivan Pace Jr I I think they definitely Blake cashman's a better fit for this defense but Ivan Pace junior is a little you know Swiss army knife out there so it's it's it's nice to see and he can you know he can get after the quarterback too he splits Defenders undercuts Defenders to get at running back's legs he is he is a it's fun to watch and Agent Zero is on the case so let's go let's go and I put him as the guy on the cover of this main man or cover of my thumbnail now cimu gger Hill uh and uh Brian Aima Dallas Grant and jabril Cox not as much depth here um Brian Aima has not stood out yet so we'll see maybe he has an opportunity and I don't know anything about uh kamu so hopefully we'll know more about him starters at cornerbacks sha Griffin and Byron Murphy Jr uh I like it I like it that's what I was expecting I'm glad it's hap happened because we got him to be the starter Shaq Griffin and they're showing him as the starter a backup Believe It or Not Caleb Evans is solidified himself as that third cornerback and Fa currently and Fabian Moro uh that's a little bit of surprise um now this may surprise some of you Andre Jr as the fifth cornerback then you got AJ Green I third and jacobe Francis now they got them in that groups between the semicolons so maybe they're even but they listed Andrew bu Jr first making him the fifth uh cornerback but this is a surprise you got Jaylen Williams Duke Shelly do mlo and AI Thomas at the end there I think this is more of a listing them in the vets and you kind of kind of see the pattern because D mlo has showed a lot um and then you get Naji Thompson as um I think I thought he was gonna switch the safety but I guess not Naji Thompson as cornerback but he is basically a special team at this point we may have six corners um we'll see safety starter Harrison Smith Cameron bham that is expected backups Joshua matelis Theo Jackson Jay Ward and Louis seen Bobby McCain now this is uh important uh if you have four safeties out there you now have Harrison Smith Cameron bham Joshua matelis and Theo Jackson that means I thought Jay Ward there was talk about how he switched to the cornerback room he's in here at safety on their uh unofficial depth chart I saw some reports of him at safety but or at corner but here he is safety and he was drafted they announced him as a corner but he's still safety in 2024 and Lis seen uh looks like the top four guys and Theo Jackson standing out and we talked about that in school do at um house calls but Harrison Smith Cameron bham and then Josh matelis and then you got Theo Jackson as the next guy and doesn't look good for uh necessarily for Jay Ward and louisine um one of these guys is maybe both make the practice squad but you know I don't know maybe they're looking to move Lou Lou sc's had he's been held out of practice not been practicing much lower leg saor I mean did break a leg I don't know if it's the same leg uh a lot to lot to read into that there but he is not anywhere near high in the depth chart so that's that's what that's what we think here now like big surprises well nice surprises is the you know see to see aan Pace Jr at linebacker starting linebacker the all the the free agent acquisitions are a listed as starters so that's nice that they're panning out so far receiver I'm a big Jaylen Naylor fan so it's awesome to see that he could be our third receiver and I've been calling that since he got drafted um I'm happy to see it I got a little weary about being injured where he did did not get playing time because of that and kind of got lost last year after that but when he does play he looks very very capable um just all the free agents working out um being at the top of the depth chart at least the big ones is nice uh this defense is looking a little bit meaner but it's still a little bit lean and it would be nice to have depth especially at dline honestly it'd be look to have like a little more impact at dline but most of our impact is that edge rusher and and linebacker I think um hopefully we can get after the quarterback that way and make it easier for these um these cornerbacks and safeties where we're deep at obvious receiver uh running back actually looks pretty deep um now that we got you know you know Tai Chandler at second running back instead of starter so I feel pretty you know deep there Kenny nongu who knows he might break out a little bit um kicker Turner especially with the new rules but and then another deep position obviously is tight end with Josh Oliver Johnny mut Nick muse now the the big battle obviously is at at quarterback JJ McCarthy and Sam darnold it does look like more of a true competition and there is an outside chance I've kind of moved up to 40% chance that JJ McCarthy would U be the week one starter um I am hesitant to say 45 or 50 yet but uh we'll see in preseason you go look at a preseason game if he gets a start in preseason and his start looks better than Sam darnold's start I'm moving him up to you know 60% starter but we'll see we we just got to see on that if that there you can tell if they're really thinking about him they'll give him a start in preseason and it would be in week one it would be in week two if he's not um starter in week two um preseason um I'm moving him down the I'm moving him down to Second and keeping him there um based on what I see with the Vikings um if he if he if he's beat out or if he looks not as good as Sam darnold when he does start moving him down uh if he comes out and starts week three uh again um that him that's them saving Sam darnold for the we first week of the Season then we know for sure who the starter is they'll probably announce the starter after week two um yeah I would think so I think they'd wait to announce the season starter until after week two see how that goes but I'm excited about this season I don't know about you guys uh tell me in the comments who you think it surprises you who you think uh M you know not doesn't surprise you tell me how you think the quarterback battle's going to go I want to know about all those things tell me what you think the defense is going to do whether or not it's going to be a top 10 defense um a lot of questions there I think we might be hurting a little depthwise still at defense and I still think we're going to be a pretty explosive offense even with the new uh new quarterback uh we may not be always consistently explosive but we still have all the weapons in the world and especially with Chandler when he comes back so
