2024 NASCAR Cup Series Goodyear 400 | NASCAR Cup Series Full Race Replay

America's best drivers come to Nascar's most historic track on a very special throwback [Music] weekend we're in Darlington South Carolina ready to race in the goodye 400 on FS1 happy Mother's Day everybody and uh welcome to Darlington 25 of the 36 cars here have bought into the throwback schemes we'll try to show you as many as we can as the 400 miles unfolds I'm Mike Joy along with Clint Boer and a fellow who has tamed the track too tough to tame not once but three times Kevin Harvick now is it as tough now as you remember I'd say it's as tough now as it's ever been and when you have conditions like you do today with the sun shining uh these cars are difficult to drive we saw it yesterday in practice turn two turns one and two they're going to just be the start of the problems because that's going to be the first thing that do is come to the exit of turn two on this start and have to go twoo wide but these guys had enough trouble all by themselves Clint as they were driving through the middle of the corner but you see the exit of turn two right there that bump that exit of turn two is so tough to go through by yourself let alone double fou it takes you back we've seen it last year you know time and time again that turn two two different reasons the bump that Kevin speaks of but the narrow of this race it is so narrow over there these guys try to go three wide it's not wide enough to go two wide for crying out loud but you just keep going around this racetrack the difference is you run right up next to this wall as it's hot and Slick today they're going to be even closer you're trying to make this this track as big as possible because uh that's where the momentum is that's where the grip is and that's also where the wall is we've seen time and time again have this field have the right side skinned up well that's where the momentum is but you got to take care of those tires running the bottom will be a detriment to your car on the long run as we've talked to these guys in a pre-race show they say 15 laps and these cars are going to be a handful now the first time in your rookie year with NASCAR on Fox sense a bit of wistfulness well listen I drove into this place and I was like man I am just not looking forward to not driving today but here we are I'm excited to tell you about it but it is the first time that I drove into the racetrack and said man I wish I was driving today Clint this place it's just so unique and I'm so proud of the throwback scheme this is the perfect racetrack for it the history and the Nostalgia of this place is spectacular these D my gosh if there's ever a winner it's that one Texas Terry the champion right there for Henrik Motorsport a that five car I love that one uh nod to Adrien Fernandez right here obviously Daniel Suarez's hero keslowski they all have them this throwback schemes on these race cars and this throwback weekend is so fun it's really fantastic fortunately we did not throw back to 1950 in the way we drive this racetrack when Harold brazington built it the apron was supposed to be the racing surface and the banking was the safety runoff up above but drivers very quickly found out it was faster on the banking and that's where we have raced ever since on the egg-shaped Darlington Raceway unique in NASCAR let's go track side Darlington Raceway this is the moment you've been waiting for please welcome Nascar Hall of Famer Ray everam drivers if you're ready to take on the track too tough to tame on your goodye Eagles please start your engines they're ready to race for 400 miles around the track too tough to tame in Darlington [Music] County the Nascar Cup series is heading to Darlington Raceway drivers have been trying to tame this track since 1950 this 1.37 M egg-shaped oval features a unique layout with narrow straightaways and wide sweeping turns that require the drivers to maintain their speed and momentum throughout the race the track surface is made of a brace of asphal which means that tire wear and degradation are significant factors in race strategy drivers must balance their speed with Tire conservation as they navigate the turns and battle for position on the track the the preferred line is notoriously close to the tracks outside safer barrier which requires drivers to maintain their focus and avoid making contact with the wall the Darlington stripe is a common sight at this track as drivers often rub the wall in pursuit of speed and position we caught up with last year's winner William Byron to see what he had to say about racing at Darlington darlington's a really fun track it's um I've had a lot of success there it's just trying to marry the two ends together and uh turn three and four is definitely uh really tight and treacherous but um one and two is a little bit faster sweeping I mean it's um one of the most tempered temperature sensitive tracks we go to um it's got a lot of grip at night for a few laps and then uh it loses grip over time but uh during the day it's got it doesn't have any grip you know to start with on new tires so it's uh just one of those places that's definitely tough it really is a balancing act you you've got to you've got to be able to to put consistent laps together there um you know not eat up your tires too much so it's um it's tough to manage it all but um you know it's just all about trying to get that right balance it's a tough track last year William Byron was running third behind Ross Chastain and Kyle Larson the one in five ultimately wrecked in turn one leaving Byron to take the lead and the win at Darlington who will be successful at the track too tough to tame let's watch and find out [Applause] there's something mysterious about this track you never can figure it out the in Black can make your day or break your heart they touch they touch have you ever no I've never so last oh into the wall Darlington victory in my record book is number one a million dollars come on buddy what' you expect me to [Applause] [Music] [Applause] do it's got to say hi to the wife and everybody partying back in Virginia at the condo and happy Mother's Day Mom and Grandma love you guys Happy Mother day uh to all the moms especially my mom bom hi I love you it's all the moms out there happy Mother's Day it's a tough track to tame but Victory here is oh so sweet the Goodyear 400 rolls off and let's talk to the poll sitter all right hey Tyler red Kevin up in the fox Booth you got the first job done buddy you got that first pit stall got through practice what's your plan for today to get this car through the whole race and try to get a w well I think uh one way of doing it would be run the bottom like you're good at but I don't know I just I just don't think that's me so we'll just keep up with the track here our race car obviously really got a fast money line toward the Camry and it was really nice to be able to get my first bow here so we'll just stay after the car in the track this is a tough place but uh thankfully with that ball we get a good pit stall selection so yeah we just got to keep it rolling but uh it's great to start the weekend off like this well let me give you some advice do not run the bottom of the racetrack do not hit the wall good luck yeah somewhere in the middle more thanks reic has his first poll of 2024 as we look at our goodye starting grid he's a two-time Darlington runner up and he shares the front row with Brad keslowski who has his best start of the Season he won here in 2018 row number two Chris Bucher runner up by a thousandth of a second last week third here last September and Tai Gibbs with his seventh top 10 start of the season here's a look back to Kansas four cars under a blanket and it was that close one 1,000 of a second the closest finish in Cup Series history let's dial up Chris buer how about you Chris busher it's boring the boys up in the booth you got us cloud and clear man oh man buddy heartbreak last weekend fast race car though here we are in Darlington with another fast race car starting third how about you yeah it be a good spot to start here it's uh it's good when when you're not happy with second right means uh you want it bad so the heck of a start for us we're ready to get this one rolling it's going to be a nice warm day I'm excited for that where is this turnaround with this RFK organization both you and Brad are both up front today hot and slick out here can you stay up there yeah definitely uh bit of a good RAC track for us the last couple of goes so one of my top three favorite tracks we go too that always helps going to be a nice hot slick race so got to be smart take care of the right side for uh for as long as possible and uh just make sure we're there at the end we'll have a have a really good shot at this all right Cowboy good luck thank you all right Road Three we've got a pair of winners uh last year's race uh this race winner William Byron and last September's winner Kyle lson Jamie well Kevin it has been a busy week for Kyle Larson after winning the closest finish in NASCAR history last week jumped on a plane with his wife and daughter went to Paris to watch a Taylor Swift concert now back here Trackside they are all in on this throwback scheme look at this a throwback to Terry lebani actually eight members of the original team are here watching today but if Kyle wants to get Terry back to Victory Lane here in Darlington they've got to make that car a little bit better a little too tight in practice all right Ro four listen to me out there gamblers four time Darlington winner coming from row four Danny Hamlin and his driver Bubba Wallace on his outside at 23 rean Clint the game is changing we are now hearing terms over the radios on on Pit Road such as offensive defensive referring to the drivers and how they're driving and when we talk about the pit crew special teams and the restarts as well one of the best and most Cutting Edge at it is Chris gabart Denny Hamlin's crew chief or coach if you will he has been pushing Denny to a level that the already future Hall of famer's career maybe has never been at things have been great on the racetrack for him so keep an eye on Denny Hamlin today but more importantly keep an ear on his crew chief Chris gabart and what he's coaching his driver up to do ro number five Ross Chastain has two top fives at Darlington including last September and Martin Truex Jr a two-time Darlington winner now Bush light is giving you a chance to win $500 today follow them at Bush beer on X and enter using # break for Bush and # sweepstakes during every commercial break now let's check with our crew chief Larry mcrs Mike this track is tough on crew chiefs you've got to make adjustments almost every single Pit Stop to keep the balance of this car neutral not too loose or not too tight let's go to our Toyota Cameron cutaway car and let's show you exactly what's going on when they make a wedge adjustment and you can do it on the left rear or you can do it on the right rear let's focus on the right rear right there you see the wrench you're turning down and there's a mechanism in a canister that either pushes shock fluid to compress that spring or actually pulls it back to let the spring release now on the right rear if you're screwing down you're taking wedge out the race car is tight if you're backing off that means you're putting wedge in the car is loose and Mike Clint Kevin I guarantee you even the driver leading the race he's going to be looking for adjustments every trip to Pit Road all right thanks Larry here's uh today's Credit One Bank race analysis 200 93 laps make up the 400 mil at Darlington the stage lengths are 90 95 and 108 laps you're going to need fuel every 70 laps or so here's some Denny Hamlin radio all right Denny 400 miles at this Beast lady in Black uh super proud to be here with you doing it in this group want say Happy Mother's Day to my mom up there in the grand stands appreciate everything youve done for me to get me here and all the other moms uh out there let all right here they come off turn number four Jeff Burton had a great NASCAR career he is a Hall of Fame nominee and he has the green flag in hand as they roll off turn number four and the Goodyear 400 is underway [Music] Tyler reic wasted no time as keslowski slides up in front of Gibbs to secure the second spot in turn four well you see Chris busher down on the bottom of the racetrack right there and that's not where you want to be you want to run these cars on the bottom of the racetrack as little as possible on the apron as little as possible you don't want to do that uh very long because it is going to hurt those tires a lot lot faster than running that High Line you're spot on Kevin what you want to do is do exactly what they're doing get this thing sorted out get single file there and figure your grip level out in this race car the last thing you want to do is exit these Corners door too with somebody while you don't know what this car is going to do hot and Slick today top 11 are now single file as everybody looks for a spot in the high Groove as we talked to these drivers before the race in in the pre-race show we heard a lot about how much of a hand these cars are going to be right now they're being as easy as they're probably going to be at the start of a run all day they're feeling their cars out trying to understand exactly where they are but everybody we talked to said about 15 laps as you see that left front tire of Ross Chastain lock up going into the corner in turn three and did he get into the wall I think he did now that's just casual contact we saw a lot of that yesterday in practice uh without any real ill effect yeah I think what happened right here is those cars checked up a little bit more in front of him and it's real easy to lock that left front tire up over there going into turn three when you have to apply too much brake pressure he did get into the wall just a little bit though I think that'll be just fine wasn't hard at all well he he looks to be struggling there Clinton and you know he he got himself in a little bit of trouble got into the wall right there but running the bottom of the racetrack right there tells me that he's not comfortable running the top of the racetrack either on the way tight side or or Too free but either way you got to figure out how to get this car up the racetrack this car is I can't stress how sensitive these cars are to um to the right line on the racetrack as far as the long run goes Todd Gillan 38 moves up to 11 on Joey Lano we talk with some of the drivers this weekend about tire wear here tire fall off at darlington's always been you know historically pretty high um you know after the repave about 5 years later this track really took a turn to the old durlington that it had been for many many decades you know every lap that you you pound those tires you pay for it in that long run a lot of options not just from the driver standpoint but also gives you options on Pit Road uh how you want to split stag is when you want to put tires on if you want to um stop once stop twice the tire wear is so extreme and the role that the driver has in that is more extreme than anywhere else so he goes so it's definitely more of a battle with within yourself or within your own car well that's exactly right Mike I I think Austin syndric said it the best this track is a battle it's it's the driver against the racetrack and and part of the driver's job is you know putting his car in the right spot taking care of the tires you can manage everything here but the car is going to drive bad and you got to do everything you can do to not hit the wall we talk about these cars being a little more durable with the right side but you still don't want to hit the wall and take a chance of banging a tire and breaking a tow link or something all right Ross Chastain is headed back forward he's passed Kyle Busch for 13th Place while Denny Hamlin continues to keep trying his teammate Martin TRX Jr but uh without success he's tried them on he's tried them on two of the last five laps he's gotten underneath and alongside but could not complete the pass yeah and I think as as you go through the beginning part of this race everybody's car is going to stay decent for 12 to 15 laps if your car is really good you're going to be able to uh make passes easier if your car is handling good so trying to keep yourself composed at the beginning part of these runs to not tear up your tires and run where you're not supposed to run is super important to make the passes easier as you go on in the run so knowing that Larry Mack what's your race strategy sponsored by Verizon well mik the strategy pretty simple every time the yellow flag flies four more Goodyear stickers but you do have to remember you only have 11 sets of tires and that includes your qualifying scuff these other two elements a lot depends on how the cautions fall but we're going to plan on splitting the first two stages in half maybe pitting a few laps before the halfway point to get early advantage of those four fresh tires and that longer third stage 108 laps split it in thirds [Music] looking back from Kyle Bush here Michael McDow who announced this week he would leave front row Motorsports at the end of this season moving over to spire and Chevrolet because uh they extended a multi-year deal yeah and that just it makes for an interesting rest of the Year this is as early as uh you know we we usually see these things happen but obviously Michael feels like going to Spire is going to put him into a better position from a performance standpoint but it puts him and the rest his team in a difficult position for the rest of the Year well and silly season is open I was going to say it starts a domino effect is what it does does yes it does coming to 13 laps complete Tyler reck has led them all on Mother's Day at Darlington [Music] [Music] for for [Music] completing 17 laps in Darlington Tyler reic from the pole has led them all Brad kazlowski 1.2 seconds back Ty Gibbs holding on to third after starting fourth 2 seconds off the lead and Kyle Larson up two spots from sixth tell you what seconds back the gap for the lead is shrinking a little bit reic slipping up 3118 Last Time by keslowski 3104 05 by behind him he Gibbs 06 behind him Larson uh Larry what you got well talking about Tyler reic the 45 car that's leading this race right now we're 18 laps in over a second and 3/ quarter fall off this is a mile and a third track with straightaways that are over 1,200 ft right now Tyler reic is only Full Throttle about a third of a lap 10 seconds of 31 seconds he's Full Throttle he better get a little more Full Throttle that six car is getting bigger and Ty Gibbs behind him they're coming catch so the Xfinity fastest laps of the race were set back at lap 2 and three when these tires were fresh Brad keslowski has the fastest lap so far 167.6cm McCall was a little concerned this morning about the long run speed of that number six car they made some significant adjustments to try and make the car faster at the end of the runs than what it was yesterday so far that appears to be playing out nicely for him as he's tur good laps right now but keep an eye on that as this run continues to go Jamie Ross chest Dan got that Big Truck Series win on Friday night making his 200th Cup start here today but off to a little bit of a shaky start as you guys noted got into the wall and he came on the radio said I just got too tight and drove it straight in the fence he lost four spots but the good news for Chastain as the laps go he says he's getting a little bit better not as tight Mike thanks Jamie Chastain in 13th and he's about 12.2 off the lead all right guys we covered who's moving to the front keslowski Gibbs Larson all them who's not Chase Elliott he hasn't went anywhere folks struggling back here Maran traffic with a nine car well in my opinion this is really where we're going to see whose cars are good we got pass lap 15 to 20 and I I I thought after we got pass laap 20 you would really see whose cars were good because that's when it's going to become easier to start passing you're going to start to see the difference in the cars become greater because of the difference in the handling so I hear Ross Chastain Chastain talk about being tight I want be a little bit tight because as you go into this run I feel like it's you know the back of the car is going to be a little tougher to manage all right Kevin you'd say passing all right they're starting to slip up these guys are slowing down in front of you where am I making these passes well the the biggest thing is you you want to be in position to make a pass when they make a mistake when they touch the wall they have to lift off a turn two is probably the easiest place because with that patch and everything going down the back straightway if they don't if they miss the entry to turn two and can't turn down quite a good as good or have to lift on exit you see up in the top center of the screen that Gap shrinking foot by foot as Brad kazlowski draws a bead on Tyler reck wow what's come over Brad he's having a heck of a weekend he he is having a heck of a weekend and and the thing that sticks out to me about Brad he qualified good Clint and when he's when this guy qualifies good he's going to manage this race well because of his experience and everything that he has and if Tyler reick is struggling with that clean air when these guys get past him he's probably going to struggle worse well what you have to be careful of is getting in that way you see man look how close these are the leader reic right on the fence Ty Gibbs was so close to it but as he approaches that leader that car is going to get tighter figure out where you can catch them and do not get that Arrow push and get yourself in the wall rean Mike as you guys have been talking about and Kevin in particular talking about how tight you want to be at the start of the run to be good at the end of it Tyler reck started off a half number two tight as he told his team but about two laps ago he just said we've already transitioned to loose that was on about lap 23 yeah and that's that's the problem right you know in getting the balance to your car right is how tight do I need this car a lot of guys are like ah it's too tight ah it's too tight but you got to protect against that right rear tire because when the when the pace slows down and that right rear tire starts to go away you know how it is Clint the back of that car starts to wag here and you don't you don't have as many choices as you did in the old car you got to run that Top Line if that backs wagon you're going to start having wall not want to be too loose all right now that's a word Daryl used to use an awful lot he wanted to be snug what does that mean that means not tight but just not loose either yeah you want to be a little snug you you you want the comfort of the car to where you can drive the car off of the right front tire and with this car you can't drive the car off the right rear I'm going to need my hands to tell you how that snug you know a driver needs his hands to tell you just exactly what snug is 26 green flag laps complete in Darlington Tyler reic in the lead [Music] third plays already Saturday it's baseball night in America on Fox Manny Machado and the Padres battle Ronald aunia Jr and the Braves or you'll see The Angels Take on the Rangers Saturday 7 Eastern on Fox still green at Darlington 32 laps in redic keslowski fastest car on the track though is fourth place Kyle Larson and here he comes looking to the inside of Gibbs I think he's going to be able to make the pass off of two Gibbs will probably roll out of the gas and giv him the spot the next part of this equation we know larsson's fast we just noted it all right they're starting to catch lap traffic it'll be another lap and reic the leader will be in lap traffic now he's going to be mired in traffic and that'll be keselowski's opportunity to pounce he better hurry right the car right behind these two cars Kyle lson watch his line Clint when he goes in into the entry to the corner he's got a little bit higher entry see how he's off that apron right there in a turn one and he uses that to get that straight line up off the corner he's already see how he turns down earlier into turn two well when he goes into turn three right here he's going to go in above that top scene and now that he's catching traffic he may come down he may not be close enough to do it yet but when he was behind the 54 he would ride that Rim right there and turn it off the wall but until he gets close when he gets closer he'll turn that car off the wall and drive off straight think back to practice yesterday who is every team in the garage area telling you hey the five cars enter in higher than try it they were all telling their drivers the five cars enter in higher we need to see if we can figure it out cars on Pit Road boys yeah pit stops have begun Ryan priest is in and so is Harrison Burton and couple more coming in one at a time here under green gladly 35 lap Mark crew chief Larry you tell me anytime I'm ready for you buddy and once one or two starts coming you can't be far behind this is a little bit early though remember splitting it in half as lap 45 we're just at lap 35 right now Michael McDow and Zane Smith on Pit Road and here comes Denny Hamlin well the only thing I don't like pitting about this early Clinton is if you are on the plan to to run it all the way out it makes that next stage super long and if you're usually when you pit like this it's because everybody else pitted but if you were one of the guys that pitted first it's because your car was probably bad and here they come Larsson behind him the leaders Kyle Bush is in Brisco is in Cory lejoy on Pit Road Jamie Ty Gibbs coming down Pit Road as well cars pretty good little tight off four pretty good but I've heard crew chiefs today say you pit early you pay the price later so it's just what you're willing to risk Kyle Larson in as well on the five better than in practice so far can certainly get on the throttle quicker than he could yesterday into one William Byron Daniel hemrich as Chase Elliot leaves his box Joe Lano look at the keslowski almost pass Ric for the lead here they come there's the leaders very tricky Pit Road to get on uh you saw keslowski stay up on the track and uh Reddit come down the racetrack so two different theories on how to get to Pit Road there remember yesterday after qualifying Brad kazlowski and Matt McCall walk the track to see what pit stall they would select well here they come Regan well Mike must have been get some good overnight adjustments on the six car to make it last a little bit longer he did tell Matt McCall it would slow losing grip as we ran but didn't seem to be as bad as other cars around him and the 45 of Tyler reic as soon as he said too loose it has been the same thing since he mentioned that the cars that have not stopped are Bubba Wallace Ryan blay Ricky Stenhouse and Austin Dylan everybody else has been to Pit Road now look at this they're going to get him boys these guys are getting past who are they getting passed by short Pitt you got Byron in the lead by the way Byron somehow got around the five and Pit Road that's why youed pit early how will you pay the price on the back side of these runs and that this this is when it becomes difficult right because you got to run that whole long run um all the way I mean it's going to be 50 plus laps so you never know with these guys they might decide to to split it up again but um that's going to be a long ways if we run the whole run so on the track map it's led by Bubba Wallace say four drivers have not stopped yet Wallace Blain Stenhouse and Dylan Tai Gibbs in fifth is the first of the drivers uh who have been to Pit Road well there you see the difference right there William Byron who pitted one lap earlier than most of the guys that that came to Pit Road leap FL frogged all those guys and got himself in position and now he's pass the leader get his lap back holding your breath through green flag pit stops and here goes Larson one back six inside back 45 so cars with new tires obviously quicker than race leader Bubba Wallace here Larry who's grinding it out how far can he go on this strategy and what's the upside yeah I mean I got to believe booty Barker is trying to go down the path Mike of the absolutely splitting it dead in half which is about three laps from now lap 45 that may pay dividends on the top side but that's this is a lot of additional laps cuz he's given up again well over two seconds a lap and look at him they just continue to blow by him I'm they're going to be I'd say it's going to force them C this time there it is yeah I mean they're going to split it in exactly in half but you know I think the interesting part is going to be that Gap might be big right now but that gap's it's going to be a lot for these guys that that get towards the end of this run that Pitt it early as far as lap times and how much does it fall off when they get way further than they just ran well and that's the math works you know if you're by yourself but as these cars all Blow by you with new tires on it just hurts your lap time worse and worse and worse all right Austin Dylan's in he is one of the four that have not yet stopped so is Ricky Stenhouse on Pit Road fastest stops in this sequence Tai Gibbs crew 9.6 seconds William Byron 9.8 thank you very much that's the difference between being in the lead and not obviously two more cars to uh to pit here with blay and Wallace but as soon as that happens 54 to the point Wallace is in for four tires under green just past the start Finish Line as Ryan blay is alone on the [Music] racetrack Austin syri goes by on the outside as blay hits the brakes and he's headed for Pit Road a long run for blay 45 laps to start this race well that's dead nuts in the in the in the center of of this run um the stage is 90 laps so that's exactly halfway Ty Gibbs takes over the lead of the goodye 400 45 laps in after one round of green flag pit stops [Music] for I there's the Goodyear blimp flying overhead at the Goodyear 400 from Darlington on FS1 Good Year providing our aerial coverage powering the race from green to checkered flag and every Mile in between good year more driven Tyler reck was the leader but his stop was 1 second slower than Ty Gibbs and he pitted a lap later that's why he is back in fifth place Ty Gibbs is your race leader and his team has a little special incentive for wanting to win today's race we listened into their pre-race meeting this is a race where we've got one shot right to get in the playoffs importantly but to get in the All-Star Race next week right for you guys so this is the last weekend we got if we can win this race we can actually go compete next week and you guys have something to compete for so got more than just one thing on the line with the playoffs we've got the All-Star entry on the line right so let's go do that and have a good day sir everybody ready all right let's go do that Ty Gibbs leading his first ever lapse here at Darlington there's Chris Gale uh the crew chief who conducted the pre-race meeting and his stats Tony hman is the Spotter and his battle for the lead is heating up as they approach this lap traffic see Suarez have to lift on that outside well we saw this 24 car be really fast yesterday in in practice we we saw his lap times just continuously go throughout the whole practice session to be solid and that is definitely showing up again here today Danel Suarez trying to stay on the lead lap and William Byron is all over him and trying to keep that clean air on his nose that's the hardest part is they're up there in that preferred line Daniel S has in front of them and Kyle lson is coming and on Fresh tires there's Daniel hemrich pulling alongside well that's that's a difficult spot for William Byron to be when those cars are side by side you saw him try to stagger to bit put his nose in the middle of those two cars to get as much air on the front of that car as possible Chris busher Martin Truex that's for sixth place a little over two seconds off the lead Denny Hamlin with them well this is a Martin Truex style of day um you know when the when the track's hot and slick and the tires are falling off but he's definitely definitely working his way forward Jamie yeah you guys were talking about William Byron and he qualified Fifth and he looked good but I talked to Rudy fugle and he said even though we qualified well we're not sure what we have for the race not real happy with the handling of it front end was good but rear grip not so good they made adjustments so far today just a little bit tight but they've adjusted on it and the pick crew got it done as well ran Jamie Todd Gillan having a great day so far after a good past couple weeks up from 15th to ninth position right now the report from the driver just a little bit tight but the one thing his car is doing is the same thing the team told me earlier today it would do they said our car is very good on the long run keep an eye on us we're going to surprise some people today so far so good yeah top 10 after starting 15th his Graphics scheme uh is a throwback to his car's Late Model A first ever win back in 2015 at Southern National Motorsports Park well this guy right here Ty Gibbs he's having a a great day so far um you know as as the young drivers go this is a difficult racetrack to manage because it's you against the track you got to take care of the car you got to put the car in the right spot take care of the tires Ty Gibbs is doing a great job in doing that and they put him in position to uh to lead this race and that's what you want to have you want to have control of the race not an easy thing to do against the the likes of the guys that are out here hounding on him I mean look at the ble oh squeezing him be careful here and that's the that's the type of stuff right there that you just got to be careful with right here you don't want to tear your car up look at the Gap that it afforded him though sometimes you got to be bold on this racetrack because it affords you opportunities to get away needed that clean air cannot be mired in that traffic it will wear these tires out in the meantime lson Byron and keslowski back there in the back are putting on a show if Tai Gibbs can win the good year for 400 he'll become the first driver to score his first career victory at Darlington since 2011 Regan Smith did that our man [Music] rean on board with Tyler reic here and the problem that he had on a pit stop was he got in there too deep and slid past his marks in the pit stop through the timing of the of the pit crew off and cost himself some time and now he's having to battle through traffic you can see how much tire wear there are on a tear off man look at this holy cow hold on to it boys our Gibbs hanging on to a 1 and 1 half second lead over Kyle Larson who's all wrapped up in traffic with Brad keslowski 61 laps complete [Music] St of your eyes I CL [Music] Boy A lot's changed here in 75 years since the first Southern 500 nice crowd on hand on a beautiful warm spring day as Ty Gibbs leaves Kyle Larson by 2.3 seconds and still a lot of traffic in that battle from second on back little steady Edie don't look now here comes TR X these guys get door to door side by side it gives opportunities to the ones behind him who is that TR X this has always been a really good track for for Joe Gibbs Racing and I think that carries through to the next gen car and and like I said earlier I mean this is a Martin truck style of day where you got to take care and manage uh the car not get too wound up put yourself in a bad situation tear up your car hit the wall uh this has a lot of ingredients for Martin Truex to be successful and that's what's so impressive about your lead Ty Gibbs out here leading these guys it's discipline man this place is so slick you have to race the racetrack he was patient with the lapers I love that those are the ingredients to getting these things to the end and if you can do that you can have a shot at win and that's hard to do patient did you see that smoke rolling off the side of his car when he was rubbing doors with that lap car 99 it was time to go it's time at 99 you can mess with them so long and those cars in the mirr get bigger then you got to do something about it Larry m so guys do your point about Joe Gibbs Racing in the four gen 7even races at Darlington they have led 51% of the laps but they've had more dnfs than top 10 Martin shx Jr has led 221 laps in those four gen s races three dnfs two for accident and one for mechanical failure they're having a tough time closing the deal lot happens at the end of these races you can attribute that to do restarts are always crazy chaotic always take out a lot of cars well Christopher Bell is is somebody that we obviously both like they've made a lot of mistakes lately and and cost themselves some some great finishes but you know that that stuff goes in chunks and Ty Gibbs has as well you know see him rub the wall right there just talked about how patient he's been I take care of the right side he's got to do all the work to get get to you little reminder there that spotter saw the same thing that that you guys are seeing at home hold the rains back a little bit look at that line on the entry to to to turn one Clint that's a very Kyle Larson line that you see uh Tai Gibbs using there Denny Hamlin would run that High Line getting into one it just seems to in this car it's not something that I like to do but after after last year and going through the couple years in this car it just really helps that car get in the corner and helps to enter that middle third of the corner with the right angle the car and allows you to get a nice straight exit off off of turn two let's check with Jamie on the sixth place car yeah Martin TR Jr up four positions already I talked to his crew chief Before the Race James small he said we were so fast yesterday and qualifying unfortunately we got into the wall a little bit that cost us some time but they were really optimistic about today and then I talked to Martin in Pre race and he told me this place is so fun to drive when you have a good car it's fun to just slip slide around run up at the wall he was in a good mood I just had a good feeling about this team guys thanks Jamie now Martin Truex is the only Gibbs driver with a throwback scheme this is the Moody blue scheme that he ran to Victory here in the southern 500 in 2016 uh the first win for that sponsor with Martin well I would refer them uh the other three teams to uh take the lead for Martin next year let's let's do a little better with with our Throwbacks [Laughter] Clint Now One driver made a really long run prior to making his green flag pit stop and that was Ryan blay here he is he ran 45 Laps on his first set of Goodyear Eagles that was about eight laps longer than most of the race leaders now he was running 18th at the start of the Pit Stop Cycle now with that late stop he is in 13th position and the last few laps has been one of the faster cars on the racetrack well it's like it's it's like I mentioned uh when these guys were were holding out to to stay out on the racetrack you got to do something to get yourself on a different strategy and these guys have waited long a little bit longer to pit now that they have fresher tires the Gap in the the lap time is is bigger so that it should be easier to make their time through traffic now Bubba Wallace carrying the Toyota cam had a similar strategy he was running seventh uh when he Pitt it [Music] Ty Gibbs getting a little coaching here same thing in 34 when you're setting those guys up don't get to the middle from too far back and it going to be a no man land and bleeding face the whole corner just to figh him behind them down the straightway make sure you get the timing right to maximize your lap time to set the pass up for exit well that's what we were talking about during a commercial Clint when you the these guys know they can race you on Entry they can race you on exit unlike the old car because these cars don't really get as loose underneath you but if they stop that if you stop that run on the inside car you can break that that pass from happening and that's that's what he's talking about right there if you're going to make a pass let's make it let's not waste our time underneath a car wearing our tires out the reason he's talking about is that five car is getting bigger in the mirror catching him couple t a lap Ty Gibbs has brushed the wall at least three times uh during this run since he took the lead of this race 13 to go in stage one at Darlington we're going to take you fox side by [Music] side I [Music] [Music] eight to go in stage one you saw the pass for the lead Kyle Larson passing Tai Gibbs here to take over the front spot Tai was having trouble getting around Carson hos far in front of him and Larson caught him pretty quick put the pressure on him got into turn three Gibs got loose the rest is history yeah and that's real real easy to do in that corner we' actually um it's a very common problem no matter what car you drive getting loose in into turn three the way that you carry the speed in and it has kind of a little bit of swell getting into the corner kind of a ridge that you go over let's hear what Ty Gibbs had to say yeah my transmission sticky with the third all good learn here see what we got to do balance wise leave it now behind you yeah just a little too loose [Applause] loose Lo yeah I mean we saw the loose he looks loose hold on to it stay disciplined only six to go to the stage end very good point right there you know you you got to stay disciplined and keep the car straight just drive as fast as the car will go if it's too loose just slow down uh because the last thing you want to do is slide this thing into the wall I'd rather lose two or three spots than crash Stein car is in trouble we'll watching in the five car his teammate Kyle lson but man Chase Elliott hasn't really went anywhere hasn't been able to make much ground up in the back I think this stage in should save him from going a lap down but they're going to need some adjustments didn't see that out of them they've been on a roll Chas Elliot in 24th now taking a look at stage points Ryan blay remember he was 18th before the pit Pit Stop Cycle he ran the first 45 laps before coming in he's up into the top 10 so a gain of eight with that strategy well both of these guys right here bubble Wallace and Ryan bling were the guys that that stayed out the longest so you know I think that that lap time difference in the new tires old tires it just became a little bit easier to make up that track position with what they gave up at the end of that that last uh first cycle Ninth Place at stake here as goes by I agree with you and what you said at the top of the show I'm jealous of these guys the work that it takes to run up next to that wall lap after lap the discipline the challenge of this racetrack the lady in Black it's fun you're jealous I am I I miss it well one you're not going to be jealous of is Daniel hemrich in the 31 he reports he has lost his power steering that is going to make for a long day here trust me it is not fun I've seen what you look like after no power steering do I need to remind you again we've already covered this Kevin it's okay the last car I passed that day for a top 10 with no power steering mik you know who it was it was me I only had six cylinders you go Chase Elliott trying to hold on to the tail end of the lead lap here well that's going to be close I think his teammate Larson should be easy on him plenty of room between him and second place but boy that favor would sure be appreciated to out of that team the nine car going to lap down here is a difficult situation especially when you're already struggling 11th Place Hamlin and loano no stage points there but I'm a little bit surprised that a Denny Hamlin so far Kevin really thought on a hot slick day like this just screams a guy like Denny Hamlin being the favorite last lap stage one Larson holding station uh behind Chase Elliott so as not to put his Hendrick Chevy teammate a lap down he'd still get his lap back on the free pass but he'd have to pit with the lap down cars and start tail end so good strategic move here this will be larsson's seventh stage win of the Season he only had eight in all of 2023 so he is on great Pace as he rounds off turn four in that great throwback scheme to ter Leon's 96 Championship I think did he get him Kevin he rode around the track with Terry lebani in pre race that might have meant good luck for Kyle Larson today he's your stage one [Music] winner for [Music] for e dudes are studs athletes you better have a grown man attitude when you jump over that wall boy rush hour was never like this this is my favorite stretcher races right here Pit Stop heavy so we get to go out have an impact on the race his pit crew lights out you have to be precise no mistakes show me what you got family a pocket full family a be the second time today the pit Crews get a chance to shine let's check with Jamie well Mike Martin TRS Junior's pit crew has gone through a lot of changes over the last two years most recently three weeks ago well since they made that change this team is jelling they're getting more consistency they're getting faster so let's meet Team 19 Lee Cunningham front tire changer 19-year vet two-time NASCAR champion I'd like to say happy Mother's Day to my mom Tracy stepmom Janet and my beautiful wife Britney michia rear tire changer former collegia hockey player at Robert Morris University CJ Bailey tire carrier from the Outer Banks former Fairville State running back Caleb Dirks Jackman former professional baseball player with the Atlanta Braves organization and Los Angeles Dodgers organization been in Nascar coming up on 5 Years Happy Mother's Day to my wife Samantha at home Matt Terrell fueler played football at Carson Newman College it's my 17th year in the sport two-time Cup champion but my favorite trophies are at home special shout out to my wife happy Mother's Day and my [Music] kids quite a crew and ready to go to work on this second stop of the day in the first one under caution James small of course the crew chief Drew Herring is the spotter for team 19 now look at the bottom of that chart lower right Ryan blay and Bubba Wallace those strategies paid off in stage one well don't think they crew chiefs aren't paying attention to that but I want to go back to these pick Crews we put we talk about them and how important they are I'm glad we're showcasing them this year Jamie K Larson just been lights out in the five machine told him not to slide it through your box when you come in he's saying he's just a little bit loose it's probably just a cycle at 15 laps let's watch the 19 crew go to work you just met him working the right side Martin TR JR says he's really loose there's a little vibration too not sure what's going on but it's certainly not hindering the speed rean Fred Kowski this run was way too free compared to the first run of the race said that his car took a pretty big swing there compared as he was telling the team what he needed and the 45 of Tyler reic was way tighter with the front of his car this run and he did not gain any rear grip he wants an adjustment look at this guys six beat him out 4 5 didn't have to move much where's he at plus three that number one box there it is Kevin number one box 21 ft it's all it takes for Tyler reic to get that first again paying off Kyle Larson is your stage one [Music] winner for for for for everybody remembers this one boy D Earnhart and Terry lebani they had some battles but it all resulted in Texas Terry being a two-time NASCAR champion and what a great uh introduction as you got to walk out with Kyle Larson both in your uh hendrickcars.com red and yellow suits was there any question which one of you is going to climb in that race car no there's no question so I think I got the right man behind the wheel today yeah but but what a what a thrill to have you back here man it's so awesome and uh you know Rick Hendrick and Hendrick Motorsports I can't thank him enough for doing this throwback car it's it's got to be the coolest one I've seen in all the years they've done this and uh and you know Kyle he just he does a great job every weekend everywhere he goes so it's really fun fun to watch we've been talking about just the you know just the paint Scheme and all the hendrik car paint schemes and um you know you look at their program it's no wonder that they run so good they have the best marketing scheme got the best driver all in the same cars I mean that's got to be that's got to be fun but talk to us about Darlington what what was where did this track rank on your favorites list you know it was it was really one of my favorites I guess I won ran my first race here I won my first race here I won my last race here and the only difference is if i' had have known that was my last race I'd have quit then but uh so it's always been a special place I've always loved to come down here it's a tough racetrack I think I hold the record for how many years between wins but uh it's it's always been been fun to come down here well let's show you a stat here of drivers who have won in their 200th start and half of those are standing right here well you know what that means Terry uh we're both old well I'm older than you yeah well it's you know as you as you look at that list you know it takes uh 200 starts to uh to figure out what you're doing um you you won in your first start at at at Darlington and you know you look back at at Ros chest he talks about everything that this racetrack means to him what's it been like this week as you've as you've gone through everything most importantly when when did the when did this all start well you know I knew they were trying to do a throwback uh of the old Kellogg's car and you know there were some copyright things and you know a lot of times the sponsors own own the paint Scheme copyright and so they finally got that worked out and I knew they had been working on it and I didn't think nothing of it and I went down there to race sub a few weeks ago and they unveiled the car and I went oh my you know I I thought it was a special car but I didn't realize it was that one well Terry it's awesome having you up here in the booth but we got work to do and I want you to stay right here and help me call this cuz Kevin man he gets grouchy up do it they're coming off a four to take the green right here all right stage two Tyler reic Brad keslowski bring them back to green and again reic gets a good jump thank you number one pit stall well that's why Brad keslowski was so frustrated yesterday after qual qualifying because he knows how much easier that number one pit stall makes this day and you saw evidence of that as Tyler reick came off Pit Road first that time man look at blay coming by looking to the inside of Byron right there just keeps marching up through them good day so far for Ryan blay well that green flag strategy has really paid off for the defending Series champion blay who now slots in sixth place Todd gilland lost six spots on Pit Road dropped from 6 to 12 Terry I think the the biggest thing that has changed with uh since you raced is obviously the the double file restarts but the fact that there's really no give and take on the entries and exits at Darlington anymore and to me that is uh that is definitely hard to get used to uh yeah because you know I can remember years ago you you do not want to go in the corner side by side because you can lose so much time but uh it seems like they make it work today or or they're losing time one but it's still the same old Darlington it looks to me like Terry it looks like you race the racetrack no different than all you guys told us when I came into this sport do not get entic racing that guy if he's faster than you right now live to see another lap exactly right you got to let him go and uh this is a track I always felt like when you came to test that if you ran a 500 Mile test here you'd be lucky if you didn't hit the wall you know and it just it's just a tough track it's you're going so fast the track is so narrow got together right there off of four you see your car Cherry take care of that thing we love that paint Scheme got into Martin shrex Jr got a little loose so Rick Hendrick brought all of members of your Championship winning team he could find to the track today how long has it been since you've seen those fellas well actually we got together last year and we had a dinner last year and and uh but I had no idea they were here I saw Gary deart this week and you know he didn't say nothing about coming down here and I walked in the motor coach out there and everybody was in there and I was like oh man wow I looked at Gary I said you lied to me you know but it was really nice seeing those guys I mean it was awesome what you been doing these days I saw another leanian at the racetrack the other day huh the go-kart track that's my grandson yeah pretty cool yeah yeah he's uh he he likes it so what have you been doing man not much you know we got four grandkids and they keep us kind of busy and we stay close to home but that's about it so this is four generations of racing lebanes yeah I guess so yeah W that's awesome and right back to the family tradition that boy fast guys got some speed under him Eric Jones in his first race back in the number 43 cracked vertebrae was not going to keep him away from Darlington one of his favorite track Kevin S you heard him throttle up and try to stay in position on that outside Kyle bus gets in a wall off of two yeah that's the second time he's been in the wall that one was a pretty good one you hit harder off a two than you do in the other Corners usually lot of momentum lot of speed off of two well the positioning of these cars is just so important when you get behind a couple cars or one one car and then you you think you can do a little bit more let's go back and see exactly what happened and it's the same same thing you know he's he's in traffic right there and sometimes you think you can get a little more and as the front of that car just doesn't want to turn uh takes off from underneath you and winds up getting up in the fence quicker than you expect it to but those entries and exits you know we talk about the the difference in how you can drive this car and the way that they race now you look at how wide the entries and the exits are are and and turn two I understand because there's a there's the new pavement over there once it widens out it you know just gets it gets more grip but that wide entry into turn one Denny Hamlin really started that several years ago and you know a lot of these guys have carried that through to carry that momentum momentum to the center of that corner and seems to take care of the tires a little bit better especially on the long run this boy right here Martin shrex Jr keeps getting faster and faster getting bigger in these guys' rearview mirr laying down some good laps moving up through the field keep is getting better good track for him can you imagine having to put up with him every week up here not really Mr energetic yeah he is uh it's got to be a challenge huh he is he is challenging that's for sure speaking of challenging this Chase Elliot's had trouble oh a greggson alongside that's for 22nd Place 11 seconds off the lead [Music] 17 laps complete in stage number two at Darlington Tyler reck our PLL that are back out front of Ty Gibs Brad kazlowski Martin Truex and Kyle lson [Music] United Football League continues next weekend on Fox the push for the playoffs is underway Saturday the Memphis showboats take on the Michigan Panthers then Sunday the Arlington Renegades battle to San Antonio Brahma it's all on Fox in the Fox Sports app here at Darlington 113 laps complete Tyler reck the leader and reic has a very interesting throwback scheme Tim Richmond in 1982 won the Daytona 500 consolation race in a car with this paint Scheme Terry Lebon is with us you raced against Tim what was he like well he was a character I'll tell you that but he was one heck of a race car driver and uh when he was driving for Hendrick Motorsports I mean they were they were really awesome you know they ran uh ran well and won a bunch of races and uh yeah he was quite a competitor came from Indie Car came to NASCAR very flamboyant driver had a lot of fun so reck's rocking the uh rocking the mustach the Muzzy the mustache yeah I guess these kids call it Muzzy these days Terry yeah I don't know do they yeah you used to rock the mustache I did yes yeah I don't like Tyler reic so looks like Luigi that's what you called him yesterday yeah from Mario Kart Yeah okay or Mario Brothers depends on right when you grew up Jamie well Mike before that last pit stop I reported that Martin TR Jr had a vibration he just wasn't sure what was going on while I went down and checked out the tires the left rear pretty used up and they let him know and he said yep I knew there was something going on so that's good news they found out what the issue was I also looked at other tires larsson's were good 24 William Byron a little bit of cing on the left rear but overall pretty good rean well Chris buer back to 10th after starting third earlier today but had to take a double take on some of the comments he had for his team on the last Pit Stop told his team that he was too tight at the end of a run that is about the only car that I've heard saying that all day long on a day when everybody is struggling for rear grip Chris Bucher looking for a little bit more front turn so keep an eye on that as the day progresses thanks for rean well here's some radio from the race leader Tyler [Music] reic NE right now the right like we learned about this week right re you're doing good job yeah what he's saying right there you just don't want to drive this car off off the right rear you can't do that anywhere that we go you want to have a little bit of wheel into it what was the word you used earlier snug snug snug yeah you you want the car to be a little bit snug because the rear tires are going to fall off and and I think when we were talking about Trux there earlier and those left rear tires I really think a lot of those Lee tires are from the guys that run low too long and it it slides and and this car is hard to get rotated and slides the back and and tears up the tires quicker Terry how did you manage balance here in the '90s oh gosh how did you like the car uh about neutral really but you really have to start with a little bit on the tight side you know but and then after you ran a while then it would you know get to the neutral stage but uh you couldn't start too tight but you sure didn't want to start loose either cuz you're going to wear the back tires out on it I always thought one of the more interesting things when we came here because the the cars used to fall off more than they do now with the old surface it would be 4 seconds 3 4 seconds lot of Tire under these cars well there's a lot of tire and it's been repaved since then but with the old pavement qualifying was always breathtaking here it still is but I always found it to be a little bit more breathtaking because of you really only got one lap out of the tires yeah that was it one lap and uh and the the tires were so fast for that lap and then when you you know came in and made a pit stop under green I mean you were so much faster the guys that stayed out there did but it was uh a big difference you know it was crazy double the horsepower don't forget that don't talk about horsepower CL Larry Mack hey Terry tell those two guys sitting beside you the 80s and 90s we didn't have down force in the front we actually had lift got nean check around on the front straightaway guys facing the wrong way and that Lee Petty 1956 Dodge tribute car John Hunter neek was running 17th at the time of the spin this is the second caution of the day it comes at lap 121 right front tires Down Kevin right front TIR is gone left rear right front Ben left rear right front yes there it rolled back there is well as we as we see so many times this year when the tires start to at War and when this car when you try to get a little bit too much and you think you can just ride it out this car will just snap around on you and spin out that's exactly what happened right there yeah I think the right front blew when he was sliding so with the wheels it was just like Kyle bus last week right like you just get to a certain point and that car just snaps around and Spins out I'm so glad you said that savior to Kyle bus he was on the brink of having to go a lap down here this saved teams like him now he was in the free pass position so of course is ineligible since it's NE that brought out the caution or uh let's double check that scoring saying that the three Austin Dylan will get the free pass neek had been in the free pass position but apparently the three got passed him before that caution came out uh Josh Barry good run here up to 13th after starting 33rd uh showing good speed in that steuart hos forward yeah I saw Rodney chers talk about his long run speed on on X last night and he wasn't lying that car is has definitely marched forward all day see a lot of skinned up right rear quarter panels as we're watching these cars come by us guys more than half the field has touched that wall terer time for two or 10 easy to do here yeah and if you don't do it in today's world they almost say you're not trying hard enough because of the the car's durability with that right side look at that wall they used to pit here on both the front stretch and the backstretch the field would be split in half say here in Martinsville as it still is at Bristol but uh John Hunter neek is going to have to drive a mile and 38 to get to Pit Road and come all the way around as long as he's got a couple tires up to do so I don't think I think he's still he's at the end of Pit Road trying to get on the Pit Road I think he's stuck now he's uh from our Vantage Point stuck behind the Pit Road speed again another lap so Pit Road is still closed and we'll see what happens been a big weekend for Brad keslowski started uh up front here currently running third let's meet the crew of car number six for Rous Fenway keslowski racing I'm Johnny Roberts front tire changer this is my for 18 season on the Pit Road 2023 most valuable pit crew award I'm a husband to Shay and a father to my son Lane and my little princess Grace Steve price rear tire changer I've won a race in linebacker of course what else may if we named you Clint winter boy or you would have are you kidding me was that not it funny dang that hurt Chris Myers gave that to me was that not a good one Myers's jokes are terrible don't ever listen to hey we're going to come around again hey let's just say be lucky use a race car driver cuz you have nothing left oh man thanks there was there's a for rough up here Terry yeah I can see that you got to defend yourself or be on and you have to be on the offense otherwise you have to defend yourself all right John Hunter Nim's car has been towed uh almost to his pit stall where it may kind of impede Chase Elliot right behind him William Byron right in front of him just a little bit uh they won't open Pit Road until that recer is clear here's the Ford onboard camera for Harrison Burton Burton started scratch uh on the field today see Ryan PRI and United adrenals uh onboard Cameron there he's got his his uh winning modified paint Scheme on Championship modified paint Scheme on his car this weekend yeah and the owner of that car Eric serson is here to awesome as his guest Ricky Stenhouse he is carrying the Oscar Meer camam don't call it the wiener mobile okay go ahead it's the wiener mobile here's some Brad kazlowski radio start tight build like they got better that man we got you keep focusing [Music] here all right Pit Road will be open this time we mentioned the neem car it's not impeding anybody it's just square right in the middle of his box and uh the wrecker has gone back to its station and out of the way these boys have been on it for keslowski company see if they can hold suit here Pit Stop they're going to have to deal with reic he's got the lead and the first pit stall so he'll be tough to beat off Pit Road Gibbs right behind him keslowski third Jamie Tai Gibbs a little too loose they're going to tighten him up the call is to take air pressure out of the rear tires to help him hang on a little bit longer meanwhile his teammate Martin TRX Jr gets a lateral slide but it's overall not bad especially over the bumps he said it's certainly manageable air pressure adjustment there rean right kazlowski been battling a car that too loose on the long runs the same thing this run asking the team to keep the rears on it longer for him it was going bad at the end of that run in the 45 of Tyler tic reic took off good wants to be a little bit tighter taken off this time it was neutral at the end of the run that means it was good for him might have been a little contact between blay and lson as another car tried to clear out of its pit box and again reic handling yeah the race leader wasn't even close this time Larson didn't have a good stop under 25 laps complete under caution in Darlington [Music] for e for [Music] welcome back to Darlington 127 laps complete everybody was on Pit Road at this caution for John Hunter neek which means that was 35 laps complete of stage number two but Larry this stage is five laps longer than stage number one so where are we yeah Mike we're going to go back racing with about 57 laps to go that's easily in the fuel window honestly I don't know that I see them trying to split that in half I mean that's that's going to be a long run 57 laps but I'm not so sure we're going to go caution free the rest of this stage I hope we see it I hope they run the whole way because they're going to be a handful if they do absolutely reic and Gibbs will rest start on the front row have to have that in the back of your mind though you have to have and know that this stage is long right here going to have a long run take care of these tires well it's a tough balance at the beginning of this run to not to lose as little track position as possible and put yourself in a position to get in the top line and save the tires reic keslowski on the front row gives in row number two as we come off turn number four and get ready for the [Music] restart back to [Music] green three wide for third yes sir Here Comes William Byron on that inside they squeeze him TRX almost wrecked blay in the wall they're wrecking guys and they pile up accordion style behind them caution waves I think bl's got a right rear toe link broke and this is a this is almost an identical situation that Truex was in last year uh in the middle right there he gets loose goes up the racetrack and blay gets in the fence got squeezed a little bit by Byron and TRX was trying to back out you'll see it on the replay here he was trying to back out but he's tore up too soon as he backed out it looked like it got loose tore up race cars let's watch from the goodye blimp watch William Byron he's the one that gets the run here goes to the inside it's he gets into three gets him three wide yeah you see that 12 car get to the outside of the 19 and then oh Byron just yeah they just all came together right there and we talked about it in the beginning of the show you know I think that 17 car is is going to have some damage on the front end too possibly that Gap that splitter uh right we you said that in the in the pre-race show Kevin cannot get that separation see Byron just come up just a little bit and gets into the side of Trix and Trix was trying to back out but big hit for bla that's yeah 17's going to have that frontting damage like you're talking about let's watch from Bubble [Music] wallow oh oh Larson may have more damage than we thought you can definitely see those cars make side to side contact pretty hard and this is that balance that we're talking about right you see William Byron all the way down on the bottom the 12 gets to the outside and actually Clips the right rear the 19 slows him down opens the door for Byron they all know how important it is to get the track position and right here somebody's going to have to lift and nobody does and they wreck yeah Blay's done he hit hard see his front end's messed up too even they get him back out he's not going to have much speed in that car got Trax on Pit Road all right here's Blay's radio and I'm going to go kill coming to you I can understand that frustration Kevin Terry how about this you answer that Terry let's put the pressure on you yeah well it got a little tight down there so that's a tough place too wide well I was watching the left side tires on Byron's Car he did a really good job of trying to keep that car right on the bottom of the racetrack and then right at the exit he he came up a little Lany came down just a little Trux is stuck in the middle here we are yeah and and that's the tough part you know that you can't give up anything on the restarts with these cars and and everything that that is happening you have to be aggressive on the restarts you got that new asphalt off the exit of turn two over there you know it's it's got good grip but it it channels down to such a narrow Lane right there and the way that that corner kind of grabs you and rips you around that that new asphalt it puts everybody in a a vulnerable position so it's a tough spot to be in but identical way that this race end end did last year for Martin TRX Squeeze Play off turn number two on the restart caution ensues damage to Blay's car we're under [Music] caution for [Music] [Music] [Music] The Good Year Bo Li welcomes you back to the Goodyear 400 from Darlington on FS1 they Supply our aerial coverage Goodyear Powers every lap every Mile and every Victory on the road ahead good year more driven rean how about tire wear so far oh Mike a little bit interesting today the tires have looked great coming off of the r race cars but I want you to take a look at these ones right here this would be the right front left front right rear left rear the left rear tires are actually what is wearing the most on these cars today we don't often times see that that's interesting big part of why we're hearing all this talk about loose and losing rear grip but as a driver that is a great thing and these are Brad keselowski's tires that came off his car a stop ago thanks Regan uh this caution a good break for two drivers that took the wave around on the stage break Derek Krauss or on the last caution Derek Krauss and Daniel hemrich uh they pitted this caution and they're on the lead lap so too now is Ryan priest who gets the free pass on this third caution of the day there's the chws and there's some damage yeah that one's that one's in tough shape right there with that big dent riding with [Music] Martin you hear him check out of it that's what Kevin you were alluding to it he lifted was day late in a dollar short he got squeezed got to put in a bad spot massive frustration with him and blay on that outside there's other cars that got damaged that larsson's cars tore up a little bit my now he lost positions and the 11 of Denny Hamlin got word that he's got some nose damage yeah and that's the biggest thing you don't want to happen you don't want that nose damage you don't want that nose to get separated from the splitter all right you see the 12 headed for the garage uh they have exceeded the time allotted under NASCAR's damaged vehicle policy to make repairs so let's think he's going to show his displeasure right here he wanted to Kevin he thought better of it yeah and and he's obviously frustrated and and that's definitely not the way that that you want to in your day but those guys have had a little bit of a frustrating season um he had good speed today and thought that he was having one of his better days have a chance to run up front Yep they're going to wave the green the front row is the same on the restart reic and keslowski here we [Music] go when somebody falls out somebody else's Fortune look at that Lano Bubba Wallace up there filling them slots here they come boy reic had great fire off speed all day he just launches out ahead of the field well and that's what you want you want to be able to control the race you want to control it on the Pit Road you want to control it off Pit Road on the restarts into turn one pick the lane and it's all working that way for Tyler reck right now so everything he can do to not make any mistakes and keep control of the race just gives his odds just keep going up every lap Wallace Lano for sixth on your left see Joey the right there those guys have struggled this year to find the speed and and do the things that they're used to doing and today is is a day that they've run better than they have in the past Bubba Wallace right there he was racing with they made a great pick call earlier gained themselves some track position didn't get in that last wreck and find themselves help uh running seventh right [Music] now kazlowski slips up here comes Byron comes right to the back bumper of keslowski front five single file side by side for six Byron way up [Music] high Terry could you imagine what the conversations would have been after some after these races if if these guys would have raced uh your generation of guys in the corner off the corner and do done some of the things that they that they do in today's world uh yeah they uh you know they race hard back then but you know it was kind of like man you know you can't go through here too wide very fast and so let alone three wide how about yeah that that sure does work Denny Hamlin moving up as he drops underneath Bubba Wallace Hamlin has led 16 in consecutive races and he's led the last eight at Darlington but struggling today has not yet let AAP well we heard him talking about a little bit of hood damage and and it looks like the hood is slightly separated from those those louvers we saw Martin Trux a couple weeks ago get that nose damage at do and we thought that that he was going to struggle a lot more than he did at do and it didn't seem to affect him but um doesn't look terrible Clint you're you're closer to the monitor I can't see well I agree a little bit of Separation there but at the end end of the day it doesn't seem to be bothering it much car's got plenty of speed he needed some help anyway maybe maybe a little bit of damage will help it and Chris buser's car seems not much the worse for wear he's holding in eighth place and here's some William Byron radio talking about that crash at lap 129 yeah I don't know I was like aead at that spot so I'm sure if you're in the other seat you see the other way so I don't think he definitely didn't touch up just runs up on run out of room you know so he shoved up a little bit too so yeah I hate it I feel like they were pretty far back on my door so well when you when you're on the bottom of the racetrack like that and you have more control of of being in a good spot than the guys out on the outside so it puts those guys in a spot on the outside of you to make a decision and when William kept his car there it every every inch that they inched further into turn two and put those guys in a worse and worse spot he put them in a bad spot but they could have lifted hey that's right uh let's check on Fourth Place Jamie and involved in that incident you guys were just talking about was the five he got into the 23 of Bubba Wallace he was a little concerned about it but after the team looked at the binoculars Cliff Daniels said there's no damage that we're worried about they said this is going to be the longest run let's just stay smooth keep doing what we're doing yeah we saw at the the end of the last run Clint the five car was really really good up in up in that High Line making time I mean I know that's normal Kyle arson talk but it really paid more effect the later we got into the Run he was entering higher right everybody runs high here but his entry to the corner was definitely a little bit higher and when we say higher I mean Terry you know higher means 4 in yeah right just a little bit higher with his entry enabling him to uh to turn back down on the hill make got straight away longer put the power down a little bit sooner than the [Music] rest riding here with Stenhouse who is one laap in rear and in some pretty heavy traffic there with with neem all right let's go to seventh place and Denny Hamlin and uh Terry I'm sure radio communication is a lot different from what it was back in the day listen to Chris Gart coaching his driver Denny Hamlin so long way to go lot of adversity people are going to get wore out pissed off they can't P anybody got to stay cooler than them work our way up one at a time well that maybe that's not a lot different from what you us not a lot different yeah yeah you don't want to get mad out there you know it's a long race they got a long way to go you know so you definitely got to take care of your car and be there at the end it seems like that's easier to do now than it was when you won your champion ionships the attrition rate here very very low these cars can take a beating they don't blow up they just go all day yeah they they do and uh you know that's a this looks like a pretty tough car and uh the engine failures you just don't see them anymore you know it's very rare you see an engine failure so things are a little different yeah in today's world we run multiple races usually two three races with with these engines per the rule right 40 laps to go in stage two at Darlington Tyler reic in front of Tai Gibs by one and a half Brad kazlowski freack Kyle lson four and William Byron [Music] five I [Music] I e we all know what happens on that side of the fence the business end but it's on the other side what I'm all about and man have I found what I think is a tailgate King what's your name Buddy Hugh in heer that's in heer obviously and you see why I picked his natural selection there's still one left Kevin Harvick there's still one left who is that guy that's my son-in-law Robert it's always one isn't there is he already drinking probably it's what tailgate Kings is all out buddy absolutely I told you he started too early yeah absolutely there are few infields that can rival Darlington you said that right these guys get after it a lot of fun right there and look how close they are I mean that garage area was 5T in front of them so much fun beautiful weekend Mother's Day weekend right here Darlington Raceway lap 62 of 95 in state two reic 1.8 over Gibbs first forward is kazlowski in third the first Chevy is Byron or excuse me lson in fourth ahead of Byron and right behind them in sixth a resurgent joey Lano rean well Mike a much needed good day for Joey Lano right now I spoke to Paul wolf Before the Race started he said that they actually did a little backtracking went back to a setup that they ran here last year instead of the stuff that they have been working on this year said we just needed to hit the reset button a little bit and figure some things out so far that appears to be working the word from Joey at the moment just a little bit on the tight side but they are gaining on it he likes the direction they're going with the 22 today right sixth place for legano now Denny Hamlin in seventh has not LED today as we mentioned uh Josh Barry great throwback scheme on Barry's car Rodney chers his crew chief drove a late model to a bunch of wins in that exact graphic scheme and uh they surprised Rodney with it and the steuart HW shops I like this day for Josh Barry with the with the circumstances of of the race and taking care of your car and managing your tires and uh that's that's very uh late model stock cars tour type of race that that Josh Barry can manage everything and you see a picture of Rodney in Victory Lane here with this car that uh they're replicating today you're go ahead you're saying this is very berry very berry right I probably came here with a pretty good St you know standard Baseline set up Kevin gab you had a good run here last year we did yeah we we ran we ran well at this race last year I think we finished second had the last one one and got a penalty Chris buer started third uh currently ninth he was involved in one of those dust UPS you see the damage there on the right front corner of his car from that Skirmish at lap 129 got the hood pushed up as well right behind him Bubba Wallace uh rounding out the top 10 was also part of that at last at 129 and behind him in 11th the Brisco Brothers Sprint car scheme for Chase Brisco here's rean Mike it's been a good steady day for Chase Brisco so far the biggest issue though for Chase is the fact that his car falls out of the track more than other guys around him said he just feels like as the Run goes on he doesn't have as much to lean on as other guys do as he's trying to save it so because of that creie Richard Boswell every lap almost every single corner has been on the radio coaching him up in telling him exactly what he wants him to do with the throttle and helping him out based on what he's seeing from the data on the pit box Jamie yeah Ross Chastain back in the 12 spot hasn't made up a whole lot of ground I talked to the team before the race today they said if we were a little tighter yesterday and practicing qualifying we feel like we would have been better the car wasn't bad well the bad news is he's too tight and that has been the story since the drop of the green flag just fighting it back there would love to be freed up just a little bit Mike thanks Jamie [Music] Todd Gillan back in 13th great run for him so far been impressive this year with that car and there's his scheme uh for this weekend that was his 2015 cars late model when he got his first uh first win in that Series yeah Todd's had a solid year and and week after week we've been say able to say his name you see his teammate right there Michael McDow talk about him going to spy Motorsports next year and uh those guys have put together a decent day today got his Long John Silver throwback scheme there yeah there's the old pirate up on the sign and on the [Music] hood I don't know what year that's from but they only had black and white menus how about Noah greggson all the way up to 15th Place this is dead last man started all the way in the trunk come up through he's rolling look at this not a bad day ression so far all right let's go to the garage and Jamie Ryan blay involved in that last caution heard on the radio saw you kind of drive up the track toward the 24 obviously you're frustrated what happened from your perspective that puts your day at an end I mean I was just mad I ended up in the fence and and wrecked and um he shoved it three wide under us and and just got tied off off of two and I got tagged and end up getting wrecked and uh you know so yeah just well he used up a little more RAC track than I thought so uh I kind of have every right to be mad so and he gets away he got free so uh just unfortunate I thought we got pretty good um and we finally got up to sixth and really made good ground up in the first stage had a good pit stop and may tag Bernard for Mustang I thought was like we had something to work with and I was excited to start the second half of the race and just um they get that chance but appreciate the 12 guys for really improving from practice and qualifying we got a lot better and hopefully we can take this and and learn for the future second dnf of the season so far for Ryan blay dang we had him calmed down had his blood pressure calm down the vitals look good rolls out sees a replay right back to Matt got one around zaye Smith is wrecked on the front straightaway guys caution waves for the fourth time and Smith turns it around down on the apron everybody else gets by on the high side lap 164 four caution flag number four Smith was running 33rd in that throwback K andk uh Dave Marcus K&K Insurance Nord kracov paint Scheme uh Marcus got his first win in the Old Dominion 500 to Martinsville in 1975 with that paint Scheme on that slick looking Dodge Charger beautiful car K and K's still around they still ensure a lot of racetracks around the country yeah I've definitely paid them a few dollars through the years right I'm sure you guys have as well free pass will go to Harrison Burton in the 21 AMR safety team quickly on the scene there for Smith well this will be interesting this is going to be a short run here you're going to have to put obviously put tires on but we've seen how aggressive these guys have started to be on the restarts and now you're going to have to be now you're going to have to be super aggressive and and you can be super aggressive because you don't have to go 40 50 Laps on a set of tires so uh this is this is when you could get yourself in trouble let's see what happened see him get loose back there all by himself guys trying to stay out of the wall spun around gets into the inside wall caution easy to do here yeah and that that exit of turn four with with where he was all the way up against the wall if you follow that Arc of the rubber obviously we learned yesterday Clint don't follow the Arc of the wall because it's it's not in line with The Arc of of the of the race line um but if you it gets loose through that section where it gets away from the wall and you separate yourself from the wall and that's why we've seen a lot of the the Kyle arson line really work with that high entry get to the Late Center and and straighten that exit out but when you try to follow that Arc of the corner sometimes the back of that car just will turn you around now they first looked at picking that car up in the front and now he's saying no he wants a push he wants to try to drive it all the way around to Pit Road yeah and this is just one of those situations where you might not just listen to the driver because it gets down on those we saw this at do a few weeks ago gets down on those rub blocks and then it won't go anywhere but we've got at least two flat tires on on the right side but it's going to be sitting on the rub blocks well but he won't be in front of that Pit Road and pit Pit Road will be open this time they're coming you see it's just it's not going to go anywhere with that right rear tire flat just on the on the rub blocks like that cars tore up pretty bad you can see it buckled on the left front you know during that last Green Run Justin Haley uh really made up a bunch of spots last caution up nine positions since the restart he pitted at lap 130 he is currently in 17th so a nice run there for Haley here they come to Pit Road Jamie what a solid day it's been for young Tai Gibbs been a little bit free overall so every stop they've been adjusting on that that'll be the same this time around little air pressure adjustment already made a tear off there four tires for him meanwhile the five of Kyle Larson he wasn't really focused on titer management there be happy to get a fresh set here a little bit tight but overall good on the long run rean red Kowski liked the balance better this run than the prior Run keep in mind he has been loose felt like he had more takeoff speed that stayed with him longer they are going to make an air pressure adjustment for this short run that's expected and Tyler reck in the 45 car lost more rear grip than front grip when he got to the traffic he was just keeping him updated as to what his car is doing [Music] boy there's your race off Pit Road that's close but reck Gibbs kazlowski hold [Music] station there they are at the Lineo that's close good thing he had that first [Music] stall for e for for one to go at Darlington getting ready for the restart and Tyler reic boy uh they had almost a Miss Q on Pit Road that would have cost him the Lead watch the front tire changer here completing his job on the right front and then coming around the air hose hangs there on the wheel opening Brian Mike frer Houston Stamper with a great move to catch that air hose how quick do you have to react in that situation uh honestly it's one of those is you're not really expecting it to happen and as soon as you see it you just have to react to it and um it's one of those things I've always been told it's not your fault but it's your problem and you just got to deal with it and fix it well great catch and getting your driver back out front still nice job I love that it's not your good line yeah but it's your problem how much time did you guys spend on uh pit stops Terry focusing on them years ago we didn't spend much then you know up in the '90s and stuff then they started getting serious about it but uh I remember when we first started we just pick the biggest guy for the gas man so that's about it you know and everybody else would say what do you want to do this week you know change tires I'll be the jaet guy so all right we're ready for the restart 78 complete of 95 in stage two reick and kazlowski again on the front row where Tyler reck has dominated every start and restart [Music] today well you see Brad kazow be a little more aggressive with the side draft right there and he's kept himself in a better position but this is when it gets tight coming off a turn two see those cars bouncing and wiggling around over that bump on the exit but Brad kazlowski is there yes that was a great start for Brad keslowski trying to slide job him not going to be there reck still holding tight on his outside here they come off four well they both know this is a short run they don't you see them bang doors a little bit right there they they both know they don't have to take care of their tires but they also know how important it is to get not only stage points but track position in control this race careful off a two KZ has led one lap today as he falls in line behind reck who's now led more laps at Darlington than any other track in his career well we talk about Tyler reic and how good he is at running that Top Line and I you know I believe that is one reason that that stat is true here because that that Top Line is so important but he's doing a great job of defending himself up in the front right now Joey Lano up into the top four Brad keselowski's hungry today boys got a fast car been knocking on that door for a long time and he bust through this thing at Darlington it' be a huge win for him in that 16 Noah greggson down on the bottom against Josh Barry and Chase Brisco three of the steart hos cars 11 12 13 Todd Gillan joins that party well and that's the problem when when Noah didn't finish that pass it put him in position to be vulnerable B up off the corner killed a straightaway speed and that put him in position to have to defend his position with Todd Gill and on the outside right there close to close to a mess right there yes to a caution Alex Bowman right with them and that Jimmy Johnson livered number 48 for hendrik Motorsports another win yes yep clearly Jamie problems continue for Martin TRX Jr who's back in the 23rd position he saying that the alternator is acting up he's now turned off everything that he possibly can to save it until the stage ends so Kevin what exactly can he do to help preserve that car that engine until the end well the only thing he can do is is turn everything off which is not good in in these scenarios I would consider today the first really hot day that that we've had most work for the drivers inside the car that they've had all year luckily it's only a 400 mile race but he's going to have to turn his uh brake fans off he's going to have to turn his his cool suit off everything that that helps him stay cool inside the car so it's going to be a long rest of the race for Truex turning all those switches off do you have cool suits in your day Terry no sir no no cool suits no hand out the window they wa they weigh too much and that's the interesting thing about today's world without that cool suit on a day like today you almost can't survive inside of these cars because of how hot it is they've just become so much hotter Advent Health cam for Eric Jones in his first race back after that Talladega accident and hairline vertebrae fracture and Tyler reic out front with the Monster cam on board his number 45 yeah and you hear him shift gears down the front straightway right there into fifth gear he'll stay in fifth gear all the way all the way through turns one and two it's kind of an option as you get later in the run on the fallof you'll you'll probably downshift to Fourth just to help the car turn into turn one but you'll hear him downshift into turn three right here all about timing to keep from sliding up the hill too fast throttle back up you hear him off the throttle on the throttle off the throttle just give it as much partial throttle as it'll take to keep that mid Corner speed up so Tyler reic one of the best at it when it comes running that High Line uh Zane Smith checked and released at the infield care center after crashing at lap 164 he and Ryan BL the only two cars out of the race here's bubble Wallace and knth you heard that downshift Terry that's something that's new today a& age he ever imagin a day where we're shifting at Darlington no uhuh I can remember the first time we shifted at Pocono and uh they NASCAR came and thought we had a 5-sp transmission or something but we uh we actually were one of the first teams to try shifting at Pocono and and uh did it work that day were you on I don't know if it did or not it didn't s much faster to me yeah well I do recall you and Ricky being the best of the road racers in NASCAR in that era you that was back in the day when you had to know how to shift gears you know and you had to heal and tow it and and match your RPMs and things like that or you tear the transmission out but it's unlike today the transmission they have today you know you just you just jam it in gear now there are still days that I every time I would get in this car I would have to sit and think okay up down up down because I mean I spent my whole life first second third fourth in in the age pattern and and to the last day that I drove this car I had to think about how I shifted it was such a mental shift in in so many things but the shifting was a difficult thing to manage you're not the only one Kevin I mean we've seen it several times especially when somebody's racing both right when they're running Infinity Series on Saturday Crossing that gate with the H pattern and then you know move to the cup series with this transmission it's a it's a like a motorcycle right all the way up all the way down yeah as we were on board right there you could really see how much work Ryan priest was doing inside that that car Justin Haley up to 13th now having a great day we we talk about him sporadically as we as we go throughout the season but he does such a great job of of managing his equipment and he has one of the two most creative campaigns for the fan vote for the All-Star Race the hail yes campaign yeah I would say he and Carson josar the vote for Pedro campaign uh are probably leading the league in that and they're both uh in the top 10 vote Getters right now folks still plenty of time for you to cast your vote for a driver not yet in the NASCAR All-Star Race next week at North wilksboro one car that we have just not seen today Kevin that I thought was really fast in practice it's Christopher Bell he has been what he's 23rd right now now myed back in traffic struggling on this racetrack after a a good practice session we both thought his speed was good and it's just not the case well this track can change so much with with temperature and all the things that we have going on and and obviously they have they have missed it today but this is definitely the worst that they've run today well all right and then the other car that I've been we we were talking about him earlier in the day but he is slowly but surely with these car to the pit stops making a better day out out of this for themselves as Chase Elliott in the nine car up to 16th well that's how they that's how they've been all all year but as you see Kyle Busch bounce off Christopher Bell's door right there but Chase Elliott and his team they've done a great job of just grinding weekends out he's been very quiet about it but they've they've been five of the last six in the top five all right two to go in the stage for stage two reic leading keslowski by a second Gibbs one and 3/4s back [Music] Tyler reic looking to win his second stage of the season and it would be his first stage win at Darlington in that Tim Richmond Daytona consolation race winning graphic scheme on the number 45 reic will get the second stage win kazlowski gives Larsson the top five Byron busher Hamlin Wallace Chast danain get stage points Terry Lebon Hall of Famer thanks for being with us and joining us for stage two and uh thanks for being part of throwback weekend yeah my pleasure thanks for having me [Music] that that e it's a very fun racetrack a racetrack that I this is one that I actually I will tell you that I actually am a little disappointed that I'm not racing this week oh that's the first time he said that all year careful you might get a phone call here before too long um Darlington you didn't have to worry you know at this point in the season you knew if your car was good or bad if your car was bad going to Darlington you still had a chance because you could make a difference with the way that you drove the car and and kind of some of your your old uh characteristics of things that you were looking for in the car and this is just one of those places that you could make a difference a big a bigger difference than than most other places Kevin Harvick's happy hour new episode every Tuesday and Thursday wherever you get your podcast presented by Nascar on Fox always a a fun time here at Darlington it's uh it's definitely a racetrack that I have enjoyed Through The Years kind of a LoveHate relationship first several years it kind of took a while to to get going but once we did um had a had a lot of success here had a lot of fun driving always a challenge every lap Clint you ever make peace with this place you know I I ran well here and just like we've been preaching about all weekend long I couldn't finish then the last 50 laps it would always unravel I I could run the top five have great days going literally telling myself ride just ride right here came off at one time come off a a four we caught a lapper you and I I shot over and hit the inside wall and never forget that blew up here like three times overheating with rubber in the grill just had terrible luck finishing the deal well stage points today Tyler reic Brad kazlowski Tai Gibb 17 each Kyle Larson 16 uh got some bad news from the statistic Department you know there's three kinds of facts there's lies there's gosh darn lies and then there are statistics well don't don't don't be doing any capping right here Mike no capping no stage two winner has yet to finish better than 25th at Darlington in this new generation car that's the statistic I think that's about to change that's pretty sus change is good that's right Jamie oh adjustments every single stop for the 54 he's been loose all day long they've been adjusting now he's too tight they're going to go back halfway on that air pressure adjustment the 54 meanwhile Kyle Larson liked the adjustments they made last time four tire stop here relying on the pit crew to get it done and maybe gain him a spot or two here we'll have to wait in moments Regan Brett Kowski bouncing a little bit too much on Entry this run that's causing him to get loose from the center to the exit and the 45 of Tyler reic is really good with his balance right now he likes it a little bit of break Shake though something to keep an eye on well it's not the yellow line it's because the yellow line is the speed line it's that white line that they measure to this six Bunch keeps getting better with these pit stops they're going to beat that 45 out of that number one Stall oh they're getting closer aren't they hear me out I don't think so hear me out and that's no cap that's no cap Mike that's ridiculous for [Music] here in the race day Studios as we get you set for stage number three So Jamie Tyler retic out front the majority of this race but what about two guys who have been up front as well keslowski and Gibbs who do you have your eye on yeah well I like Brad I mean Brad's on this 110 race winless streak but he's finished second twice this year uh getting really close Clint mentioned it their pit stops have been really good if he can beat reck out of the pits I think he's the contender and Tai Gibbs has been incredible to in the top three of both of those stages can you imagine first win at the hardest track in NASCAR Darlington Brad kazlowski trying to snap that 110 race winless streak and of course get the first win for Ford this season Mike back to you thanks Shannon getting set for stage three here in Darlington time for our Credit One Bank ones to watch Tyler reic started on the poll he has dominated so who else are we looking at Clint it's been 110 races guys since this man has last been in Victory Lane you can't keep a good man down five times a runner up the six car is going to get it done today at Darlington well I I like I like the guy who won this race last year and that's William Byron I think that this is going to be one of those races as we get to the end that could be a a race that you have to grind out and they've done a good job at that Joey loano has just kept coming and coming and coming it's been Richard Petty races since his last win he keeps working his way toward the front I see what you did there 43 I see what you did there are your Credit One Bank ones to [Music] watch Eric Jones hard at work there's the Advent Health cam testing that back out boys yeah new seat new seat angle number of changes he's made well he's learning Talladega he's learning a lot about his seat today because this racetrack is is rough and I think it's uh you know it's it's definitely challenging to sit in a new position and make that the new Norm so he's he's definitely going to have some notes and feedback that he has to give the teams when they go back and if they did a great job maybe not and this just in from the stats Department don't count Denny Hamlin out just yet two of his three wins this year were races in which he did not lead a single lap till after halfway and we all know after halfway in these races it takes one caution and all hell breaks loose it's happened last week it's happened the week before that it happen all the time with this cup series in these cars restarts get chaotic one caution upsets the apple cart all right on the last restart Brad kazlowski went into turn one right even with Tyler reck looked like he might have had it chance to steal the lead it didn't happen yeah well watch these guys when they come down the straightaway this time they're both going to try to be uh they want to get the guy up the straightaway or down the straightaway so they kind of met in the middle last time and Brad did a great job of keeping himself side by side through turns one and two John Hunter nean got the free pass he is now just one lap down everybody else is on the lead lap with Smith and blay in the garage here they come for stage three green flag [Music] oh they're banging putting some pressure on him lson looking at the inside yeah and you see Brad keslowski just kind of give that position up not yet not fast still holding on the outside here comes a big push William Byron going around them both Byron again three wide way deep on the bottom but has to back out slide job larsson's going to slide up in front of him leaves him room on that outside respect [Music] it's pretty nice to him there wasn't he yeah I really thought he had plenty of room to to at least try to make him go the opposite direction but he decided to uh to give him a lane and Brad drove back around him Larson third Byron fourth Pierce fifth side by side Lano and [Music] Hamlin three wide right behind them busher down to the inside above a Wallace with gives up top you hear him throttle up to get in that position got away with it that time yes he did but that's putting yourself in a pretty vulnerable spot they slide and slip up at least a little bit and they're into you they were three wide behind them with Noah greggson going to the bottom trying to pick up two spots right here and he had he does but wow he had to be super aggressive right there putting those cars three wide on the bottom uh if he didn't make that pass he was going to have to do something to to uh to block that run I think it's teammate Brisco cut him a little slack there as William Byron takes fourth oh oh man I don't that that might have given the 48 Car some damage on that right front fender right there on the nose he hit he hit that 51 car hard yeah Bowman got into Haley uh here's the rebel on board for Kyle Bush it has not been a Kyle Bush [Music] day 21st place for the rebel bourbon car battling Eric Jones [Music] here eighth place w Alison [Music] busher and let's go back to 26th Place and check with Jamie yeah it hasn't been a Chase Elliot kind of day either actually all weekend long first off and qualifying yesterday Alan Guston his crew chief told me he just missed the line qualified 31st he said but we've got good Pace we've passed a lot of cars the last couple of weeks and he did he got all the way up to 15th Mike and then on the last stop right rear issue slows stop got him all the way back in 31st so he's trying to make his way forward again wow he's picked up five positions since the restart J Man huge setback for them all the way to 15th right back to 25th start your day over again well that'll happen when you have 33 cars on the lead lap this late in the race definitely a lot of lot of cars on the lead lap and um you know those guys have were grinding out the day and slowly inching their way forward it's a long ways to go again with a lot less time but this is the longest of the three stages the first was 90 the second was 95 and this is 108 laps for stage three as we have a look at today is protecting the lead sponsored by armorall this has to be Tyler reic who else has done a good job of protecting the lead today well what they should do is we should have yeah we should have shown the exit of Pit Road because he's done a good job right here on the restarts with his car on the track but uh that first pit stall has saved his pit crew a few times today I agree hey you can't put enough emphasis on qualifying that's why again Kevin you said it kez lowki was frustrated SL him throw his glove down he thought he was on that pole miss it by just a little bit toic and it's cost him every exit of Pit Road I'll never forget when I went to steuart hos racing and and I I used to tell Rodney chers as I I said you know I'm just not a good qualifier he's like well we're going to change that Trend because we can't qualify bad and the race starts on what used to be Friday starts on Saturday now to try to put yourself in the front of the pack because if your car is off gives you time to adjust it you don't if you fall off and you go to you know 10th or 12th Place and if you're not starting 12th or 15th then you're you're not falling back as far so qualifying good put you in a good position to do a lot of things better and gives you a cushion for the for the start of the event well Tyler reic started on the pole and he has led 145 of the 23 laps so far here in Darlington e I ped you a little bit short everybody else came with this will be a little bit longer run get us good restart here and then set lty smart got to take them away one at a time Denny do you feel like in reasonable air it was tight from lap one or did it migrate that way or help me a little bit with that it stay consistently tight the entire time if the air were cleaner uh definitely it would be better the splitter looks fine there's one spot it's maybe gapped a little bit in my experience this isn't terrible not ideal but definitely not terrible F Denny Hamlin currently in sixth place 6 and 1/2 seconds off the lead Joey Lano fifth William Byron fourth Kyle Larson third Brad keslowski second and Tyler reic one the lead one thing that you'll notice right here as these cars go through turns three and four you're going to see that shade start to creep in up next to the wall and as that shade Creeps in up next to the wall that track the the track temp is going to start to go down so that Top Lane is going to be gains grip when that gain a little grip yep see this shade right here it also makes it also makes the depth perception of where that wall is start to change as you as it stun Sun starts to get lower you start to go from Sun on the back straight away to the Shadow and you know it just becomes a little bit more difficult to judge that speed and not hit the wall yeah especially getting into a three drive right into it if you're not careful plus driving into three aren't you driving straight into the sun yeah well you can kind of see how the the glare has started to change but as the sun gets lower you know that glare will get worse and this is obviously a lot better than the windshield of the car um you can see that you can see that sun on his eyes how it goes in and out and you can imagine your eyes um you know start to dilate and and adjust for different different types of light and that that was something that always really bothered me as I got older and started to put the glasses on uh that helped that but you know you'll you'll see as he as he goes down the back straight away when you look at his eyes there you know you really start to see the sun go in and out but look at the watch The Shadow the Earnhart Towers right there see right as you get into the wall you're picking that shadow up as well a lot of different things that are taking your concentration off of that wall which is the focal point for sure Clint would your mom like a Sunday Crank It Up on Mother's Day how about your mom you want to Crank It Up for your Mother's Day I love you love all you mothers out there everything you do for us Crank It Up Baby [Music] by one no [Music] run inside the 20 [Music] still [Music] even clear clear [Music] [Music] [Music] so 7s are good chase at 93 and an 87 [Music] so by half on the 20 aimed at the bottom rolling [Music] in I just got to focus right here so you make the call up I'll ride with you still good [Music] by one on the 99 [Music] inside 75 laps to go in Darlington South Carolina in the Goodyear 400 tidle reic has led 161 of the 219 laps so far Let's Take You side by side 69 laps to go Larry told us if you were splitting this stage in thirds you'd come now and that is what Kyle bus has done you got a ways to go if you're just going to make one stop in this [Music] stage Kyle bus was 21st when he made his stop the lead's getting tight um 40 six underneath the the 45 right there on the bottom of the racetrack and we see lap cars in front of them Clint and that makes it difficult and we really get to see whose car is actually handling better once you get the traffic if you're the six that's the opportunity you're looking for he gets into him a little bit has to settle back in line here these guys are raising for position they're not going to just yield this position to reic he's going to have to earn it and here comes six again on the bottom three wide careful he's going to get hemr trying to stay on the tail end of the lead lap in the 31 new leader Brad keslowski for the second time today well the thing that happened right there was keslowski had clean air in front of him and and reic was behind that lap car and got him tight and Brad was able to drive by and clear him Christopher Bell has come to Pit Road on that two-stop strategy 67 to go [Music] Chase Elliott is in so is Martin Truex scheduled green flag stops and they are joined by Ross Chastain well it seems like scheduled for some maybe not all and this is when it starts to get interesting as to what the right strategy is and we see more cars start to like to peel off on the Pit Road but let's hear what the what they're saying on the strategy on the [Music] radio yep I know you're frustrated just lock in man we're going to some guys will be starting two stops here some guys will be starting one stop in a few laps so like it's important to get all we can for these last few and that that's exactly what's happening too you're seeing the two stops the guys are going to try two stops they're already been on Pit Road these guys the other guys are going to go to somewhere around I would say 240 to 242 around in there 10 more laps maybe 235 Larry's saying Ricky Stenhouse has made a stop as well but most of the leaders let's say the first 27 cars are still on the racetrack comes busher down Pit [Music] Road all right crew chief two stops or three today what would be your choice well it looks like to me most of the leaders have elected to go to just doing the basically splitting it there into the into half so what I'm looking at Mike I just had toe Clint somewhere around lap 2305 238 come a little bit early I see Ty Gibson a 54 hitting Pit Road right now so I think we're starting to see him hit just a little bit early all right Ty Gibs to Pit Road craa already there let's keep an eye on these leaders guys got five more laps get to Larry's number I think the leaders are wanting to just split this in half Brad is driving off from reic gzowski that is well we we talked about Brad's car earlier being a little bit better than than reck's from a handling standpoint but reic has had the track position as soon as they caught the those lap cars side by side Brad closed the Gap pass him and has drove off reck had one pit stop today on which he was a second slower than the cars that he's been racing with rean well Mike Kevin was just talking about Tyler reic in traffic and it's the same thing he's been complaining about all day long when he catches the back of the field he just has zero grip with the rear of his race car sliding around all over the place that is his issue right now and that has been the issue for the majority of the day for the 45 well that's what we talked about on on practice day you got to be able to to figure out what your car can do besides being in the preferred line and if you're just running the same line as everybody else and you don't you aren't maneuverable to be able to manipulate the traffic as as good as possible then you just gain or you lose too much time and allows the good handling cars to gain and close that Gap and then put you in a position to where just like reic had happened you get passed by the better handling car how about C Asin in that parelli Jones Trans Am Mustang scheme from 1969 that's a cool one and uh Rick wear the team owner his dad raced against Parnelli at Riverside California in the 1970 TransAm so that's a very very cool and appropriate throwback that's my favorite I admit Henrik team hendrik they did the best job of everybody but personally that's my favorite that's a good looking car Mike Vick Elder Brock had something to do with that car too right yeah he owned it long after Bud Moore had it and raced it in historic Trans Am and boy Vic was quite a Wheelman and a great guy the edel Brock family still owns that car great product too Brad kazlowski has now led more laps today than in the entire 20124 season 110 races boys he's hungry he's hungry in his six car and that's not a lot of laps this is lap 11 and like we talked earlier those guys have all of a sudden showed up with speed Brads had five second place finishes since his last Cup victory ooh careful look at those tires coming Eric Jones on the oh Larson's got trouble did he have a flat just get rubber on his TIR there got too high I think he got too high he got too high right there all right let's see if that draws the rest of them in so Kyle Larson was running third and clip Daniels and crew scrambled to get ready to go to work didn't take long right there jumped up a little bit too high got in the rubber Jamie Jam yeah K Larson quite a while ago said I'm just too loose they told him hang on to it hang on to it got into the wall there they reacted quickly a four tire stop here a lot of damage on the right side Cliff Daniel's taking a hard look at it now as long as that's doesn't have damage on that right rear right he hit hard as long as there's no damage they're going to be fine that was within their pit window to' be fine look here Ric second place on Pit Road here they come topd gillin in as well and Joey loano into the wall he and Ty Gibbs get together well these cars have just become a handful and and as soon as you try to take too much you wind up getting bit rean look having about 30 laps into this run crew chief Billy Scott told Tyler reic we are going to change our plans originally sounds like they were going to two-stop it a one stop instead the car we already mentioned very loose in traffic for him that's where it needs help there's Brad kazlowski to Pit Road he gives up the lead to pit gives it up to William Byron will be the new leader well and that second place car reic pits you got to pit next time by that's exactly what they did not Rian Brett kosi in the six car we mentioned early on in the race that they worked on that car to make it better on the long runs after practice yesterday still seems to to be working Brad has been quiet on the radio this time very happy with it the 22 of Joey loano he started this run too loose it has stayed too loose continuing to buzz the right rear tire for him right now bu Wallace in so is Bowman moano away Byron works his way underneath the three of Austin Dylan there we're starting to hear a lot of loose guys lot of loose Here Comes McDow to Pit Road Cory lejoy is in this should bring the rest of the field Here and Now Byron out of Pit Road hem stops Byron right at the STK Finish [Music] Line Jamie William Byron in his beautiful throwback to Jeff Gordon just let his first laps of the day he was extremely loose Rudy fugle said just hang on to it this twoot strategy should work for us rean Denny Hamlin in the 11 car started off too tight with the run and stays too tight too long he wants to be freed up just a little bit it's about 20 laps in before it comes to him and the leader becomes Barney F or is it Buford T justice it is Carson josar Here's Your Leader right here unless the caution comes out but there's the lead all right Gibbs uh pitted eight laps before Brad keslowski there comes the pass for back what will be the lead without a caution right keslowski pitting right after that redic pulled in drew them in did a good job so far everything's a okay well it may be a while before they get the lead because josar and Suarez on that two-stop strategy along with Derek Krauss further down in the lead lap Carson josar is the lead but he's about a second and a half slower than Brad kazlowski right now well right now you don't want to give you want to give up as little time as possible so this is all about a Time game with these you know could be two strategies if it's not but these guys racing uh catching lap traffic and and Brad wants to put all the distance that he can in case this all works out to uh to a different strategy during pre-race josar had a red bubble gum machine flashing light on the roof of his car just like every uh Michigan State Trooper has and it's National Police Week that's what they're celebrating on Carson hos ofar car as Brad kazlowski goes past to take the lead and hotar takes the pits Larry Mack yeah I'm looking at Tai Gibbs that 54 car as mentioned pitted about eight laps earlier but he pitted with 63 laps to go I think Chris Gale the crew chief was banking on more people doing a two-stop strategy I I just don't know about running 63 laps without stopping again I'm not sure that's going to [Music] work well they must be counting on a caution well and and we go back to that radio transmission right they were just in a tough spot because it seemed like the feedback he was getting from Tai was just that the car was was really really difficult to drive and they wind up coming to Pit Road so we'll see how this works out well here's how it worked out for this round of green flag stops before the stops keslowski had a two-c lead over Tyler reddic now after fit stops kazlowski is out in front by just 410 of a second [Music] with Brad K leading in Darlington Chris Myers and Jamie little are going to the dogs the Westminster Kennel Club dog show continues tomorrow 7 Eastern on FS1 with breed and group judging then Tuesday at 7 Best in Show all on FS1 great to have the Goodyear Airship with it here at Darlington got someing our aerial coverage powering every Mile and every moment on NASCAR's road to Victory good year more driven well we saw the five car into the wall off of two and another car into the wall off of two was Kyle Busch Kyle bus hit it hard enough he pitted I don't know I don't I don't see the speed out of larsson's car that we saw here's Kyle [Music] Bush yeah when you're behind those cars like that and you get up high out of the groove right there and you you get tight turning down the hill into turn to and when you miss that Mark it sucked you in like a magnet right there when you get up into the into the rubber debris hearing a lot of guyss lot a lot of guys complain about their cars getting loose Kevin yeah I think it's this right here I think it's the the the Shadow and the ambient temperature going or ambient temperature going down as well but I think it's the the track temperature going down and those cars are the front end starting to work better and the back of those cars are starting to get loose always a tricky racetrack when the Sun starts to go down that transition of of daytime tight to um you know working on all the things that you need to make the car turn in the middle of the day and then that Sun starts to go down the shade starts to come in in three and four and we've seen more guys hitting the wall and maybe they're just getting close enough to the end of the race that that they're getting more aggressive let's hear what the five has to say oh he's around left rear theall left rear went off the beat loose or or excuse me flat tire and that will bring out a caution at lap 2 suck it brought right back in here leader just middle one and two so that changes things Larson was sixth he had brushed the wall earlier and his last couple of lap times were almost a second off the leader Joey loano had just passed in the lap before you see that left rear soft already yep went off the bead right there yeah the lap times fell off because he I'm sure he felt that Lefty Tire going down and there went well that'll crush your corn flakes W tense moment for Josh Barry there who gets by without incident yeah and this this just puts everybody in a really interesting spot here as we get this yellow we know what that does for Tyler reck it gives him you know an advantage on Pit Road to to try to get the the lead back in this race because he's been better he's been as good as Brad on the short runs Brad really beats him up on the long run but we only have 39 laps to go right now so you see that left re Tire hanging off of uh Kyle Larson's car but we've only got 39 coming to 38 laps to go this time around and that's going to fall in a short run category to me Clint does it look like he has power right here I think he's just trying to walk it in things get really goofy when they get those flat tires and the way that the cars act and to the wheel to the right there you go L broken kin yes or no I think a right rear toe link yeah a lot of hand signals from the right rear canot right rear toe link being bent that wouldn't have hurt the left rear tire in that short amount of time that it would have went down or something would it I wouldn't think so it have to been bent a lot a lot I'm going to tell you what this caution know in my book it's exactly I know they're running third and fourth I think it's what Todd Gibbs and Chris busher needed cuz they were going to have to go 63 to 64 Laps on their tires well it definitely puts him back in the game yes sir and we we've we've seen this last year these late race restarts they get super aggressive tore up a bunch of cars last year at the end of this race uh on a restart and it changed the whole complexion of who the who the contenders were well certainly not what keslowski wanted right they were one of the last cars to pit and things worked out well for them but this caution puts it right back you know everybody's coming down Pit Road puts it right back in that man right right there's hands so 38 laps to go right now that means the the remaining distance if we go green to the Checker will be about the average of what they have most teams have run today for a green flag run and yes there are cars like keslowski that toward the end of that run uh have become were Superior yeah and and I just think it's I think it's going to get aggressive Mike I don't know that we've seen the last caution here but um the 45 crew is going to have to be faster on this stop because now they're giving up a car length coming in second and we've seen them just barely beat Brad kazlowski off of Pit Road so now they're going to have to be better this pit stop in order to get the lead back so who is your best value pick for your fantasy league Ryan priest who started out back currently 20th Harrison Burton who started in the last row currently 23rd or Noah greggson who started last and is up to 13th Jamie Tai Gibbs comes in from third position LED 34 laps today after being tight the beinging too loose he says the car feels good the 24 really really tight he said I need more quiet on the radio I'm having a hard time focusing I keep hitting the wall they need to free him up just a little bit and be quiet rean the asper kosi what he needed he said I need the lead and I need ride quality on the exit of turn two when we get the lead as for the 45 of Tyler reic he wants him to tighten him up some he thinks they're going to get to that traffic and he's going to need help when they do all right here comes Brad rolling down Pit Road they send red and he going to get it oh that's close well that's that's all qualifying buddy yeah I mean yep yep that qualifying session for Tyler reic has paid off time after time today and we've we've covered it every time you don't have to go you don't have to go far knew it yep [Music] he for for next Sunday after one returns to North wilksboro North Carolina for the 2024 Allstar race where NASCAR's biggest stars battleing out for a million bucks to win the allstar open begins at 5:00 p.m. Eastern with the Allstar race at 8 next Sunday on FS1 and as part of All-Star qualifying the pit crews are involved in determining uh the starting lineup for the All-Star Race how about these stops this is world class right here under 9 seconds for Tyler reck and Brad kazlowski on that stop how about we meet Team 45 Houston Stamper front tire changer former college wide receiver just started my 19th season my best victories are my kids at home and my wife Deon del rico rear tire changer upper malor Maryland two-time Xfinity Series champion Wade Moore Cleveland North Carolina tire carrier former player in the Washington Nationals organization proud dad to Sawyer Sturgill and Jackson Nathan rickit Jackman Holland Michigan Central Michigan linebacker Brian deal gas man former soccer player 2017 Nascar Cup Series champion with Furniture Row Racing and Martin shx Jr proud dad to Gage and Quinn there's Billy Scott the crew chief Nick Payne the spotter up on the roof and there there's Billy Scott's resume upper marbor Maryland used to be a racetrack there there was a short oval and a Trans Am road course look how close this is I mean all day long these two have fought it out on Pit Road now last run last green flag run it took keslowski 33 laps to get by reic after the last restart we're going to restart here with what 34 laps to go taking the question right out of my mouth Mike Kevin 34 laps to go been 110 races since you've won last it's time to get aggressive it's time to get dirty dirty you call it darn right I would um I would be very aggressive on this on this restart I I think I think I think if he gets beat on the on the restart here it's going to take him that many laps because it seems like Rex's car has been good enough to hold him off until you get laid into those runs so you got to know that coming to Pit Road you're probably going to get beat off of Pit Road so I I think you got to get you got to get right on the edge of being too dirty you saw Kyle Larson's car being hauled into the kale yarboro garage here at Darlington um they wanted to continue but Larson said he said I can't drive it I can't steer it watching these races back last year Chast stain and lson they started leaning on one another eventually wrecked one another just like you said it happens down there in one and two comes off a two in the lead in trouble yeah it changed the whole complexion of the race and I I think Brad knows that he was pretty aggressive last time um but I think he'll be more aggressive again a windshield tear off we saw this last week it'll come off that won't be an issue a fan will get a souvenir have to crowd him down here get a good jump with him most laps the 2311 has ever LED in a race as Tyler reck brings us back to green with Brad kazlowski inside [Music] and reic can't clear well I think Brad knew exactly what he needed to do right there you see him shove him up the shove the 45 up the racetrack I think Brad feels like this is his what would have been his best chance to um drive by reic on the bottom but definitely saw him fighting for space on the entry to the corner and here we go again side draft off the 45 45 had to lift a little bit yes he did he's crowding him a little bit still got room here he's on his door same for busher in third battling Tai Gibbs but then busher pulls ahead and now it's six cars together for the lead neither driver given an inch right here drag race down the front straightaway Here Comes butcher to the inside he's going to give his teammate a huge shot how about that I'm surprised he didn't try to cross over he would have if that wasn't his boss could have got a two for one right there man they're going at it Kevin well both of these guys know how important that this is going to be the race for the win if the caution doesn't come back out Kowski Relentless holding the bottom reic trying to power ahead and can't do it kazlowski is still there on his quarter door even and ahead one more shot you're going to have to run him up the track he need to crowd him running out of Chances with him up there in that preferred Groove yeah and every lap he runs low it just makes it harder and harder on his tires on the long run so you see Chris Bucher he's going to play a part in this if he can if he has the opportunity to help Brad as we saw he'll do it again fantastic racing door to door for these guys I thought reck might have rubbed the wall right there but he's leaning on him here comes a crossover for berer going to pass him both way down on the apron he's clear guys Chris buer now he's going to check up last week the bridesma now he's in the lead trying to hold off re how about this Kevin well we said Brad needed to get aggressive but they they had definitely made contact and he put put reic in the fence off of turn four and it cost them both can you imagine if Chris busher puts his thing in Victory Lane after last week what he lose by got knows well Chris busher and his team have done a great job in rebounding from last week and what was just an up and down roller coaster with of a loss but reick and klaski are still going at it if the racing Gods ever owe anybody a win it's that kid that just took the lead and what a way to do it while his boss was fighting the pole sitter and leader of the most lap side by side Chris busher went to the bottom and stole the lead here's another look they got together off of four in the lead and look at the Run he got huge run you have to take it we talk about these cars when they get door to door like that they're like magnets they get stuck together and it's hard to to get the cars to to come apart but Brad knew that he couldn't give the 45 any more room than he needed to try to keep him from getting that run on the outside and clearing him but he just they got too close got stuck together and and uh Chris busher was the winner in this one well two laps in a row that happened right the lap before that busher helped his teammate Brad Kowski tried to push him by that time they were slowed up too much he had to go let's go to the garage and Jamie yeah Kyle Larson has been checked in released last week's winner we saw you get into the wall and then cut a tire and get in the wall again what was the extent of the damage that essentially put you out here yeah well uh I was struggling um I got really loose uh at the end of that long run and William caught me and I was just letting him buy in one and two and I just kind of hung out there W I tried I was trying to be really wide away from him um and and I just stayed wide too long and I got hung in the marbles and hit the wall and uh yeah so we had bent to link or something and then pitted and was struggling pretty bad and then I don't know which Tire shredded if it was left rear or right rear but a tire shredded and um spawned into turn three so yeah I hate that um my mistake you know not even really try trying hard at all uh cost us a race so just uh a little bit frustrated myself right now but um you know good car today felt like I was running a really good race to that point and then uh just one you know mistake took us out of it Kyle Larson's Journey to the Indianapolis 500 begins tonight he'll hop on a plane fly to Indie race his Sprint car tomorrow night and Indianapolis 500 practice begins on Tuesday wow what a busy month of May for Kyle lson and we'll follow it with you from Chris busher looking at two cars side by side for the lead drop to the bottom all the way to the front 23 laps to [Music] go for for here they come to the flag three bre photo finish unbelievable three wide finish have you ever seen anything like that three by3 in the line I have never seen anything like that they touch they touch all right what a finish coming to the line Clash together I believe buer hold on it's Larson holy cow what a finish boys four great finishes a total of 8 1000 of a second margin Victory he's caught him Kevin now he's in his draft he's really inching in closer and closer off of two getting into threes his strong suit yeah but I don't I do not like the fact that Chris busher is driving in so low into turn one Tyler reck's got that big wide entry he needs to maintain I'm talking of reic he needs to maintain on this in they're both running the same line but watch when they go into turn one if Chris buard doesn't adjust to something into turn one he's going to keep giving up some space but down there you know reic struggles because he's running the same line but watch this way well he's moved up a little bit but reic still way higher so he gets more air on the on the front of the car and that Arc is just different and allows him to exit different watch how much faster he gets into the corner drives in deeper into three than uh Bush Your Leader yep he just struggles making up any ground sails it and get three but he got tighter in his weight the closer he got to him he got tight Pusher got back away from him a little bit now most of the top nine are all running very similar lap times quick Asar that lap was Tai Gibbs in fourth place but the way this race has gone the longer this run goes the more it favors Brad kazlowski who's got a long run car sitting in third 8/10 of a second off the lead yeah you can really see all the options that you have on the entry to the corner they all wind up in the in the same spot on the exit but Tyler reck is this race is not over rean well Kevin the last lap that came around Chris buer ran a little bit quicker but more importantly the spotter on the radio told him good lap perfect change keep in mind he's looking out the back mirror as well trying to figure out exactly where he needs to be he costed or he had the race get away from him last week in turns three and four surely he must have learned the air blocking just a little bit better at this point well he he did the last lap good he didn't do that one as good because reic he went Bucher went back low and reic went high again so now it's that cat Mouse game Clint that we talked about at Kansas where's that car behind me going to go and reck the lap before into turn one it looked like busher might have scrubbed the wall right there Clint yeah but as reic had to turn down off the wall try something different look that car got a lot smaller in his rear view moved up a little bit higher right there took the line away from him I like that's what I like about Bucher moving around not giving him the same option twice yeah if I was on his radio I I that that line that he ran this lap on in entry to turn one takes away that top momentum Chris Pusher had only LED one lap here in 13 starts before today he's been out front for the last 17 this six cars catching them quick yeah and as we get closer to the end of this run the six car was definitely way better than both of these cars so it wouldn't surprise me if we see big chunks of Time start to be oh you can see it right there Brad kazlowski is driving to the back bumper of the 45 car a three- wide finish would not surprise me not what we've seen I I've learned it nothing surprises me up here right these boys are giving oh there's reic in the wall again well we've seen in the commercial breaks we've seen a bunch of those cars Bounce Off the Wall so four of the top seven are Fords Fords had six runnerup finishes this year including last week but still looking for their first Victory three of the first seven are Toyotas and the first Chevrolet William Byron back in E yeah we see Chris buser Brad Kowski first and third Josh Barry uh having a great day in that four car running fifth uh Chase Brisco and seven so Fords have definitely showed up with more speed over the last few weeks look at that difference in top fives 26 for Chevrolet 21 yeah and those those top fives that that to me is a sign of who has the speed keep an eye on this line getting in a one there he goes see there's the difference Kevin's talking about busher to the bottom look how he rotates busher has to move up now he has to rotate again on allowing reic to drive right to his bumper now he's got him in the mirr and he's going to drive it in really hard and try to put the pressure on him getting into three yeah and what you here comes the dive bomb he's going to try to slide him he's going to try to slide him he's Pusher got in the wall watch for the six car coming oh BR loose and he's looking he's mad he's not happy I something's wrong they're both in trouble reck's in trouble he's got a right rear flat to go and reic fences it again no caution yet he's still going around there I'm not so sure that that's car has not got an issue as well yeah he's he's 17's pitting the six back to the lead oh my gosh Brad keslowski the keer B front here with eight and a half to go let's make sure Reddit gets on Pit Road here B on reck on barely made it just made it inside of the commit box okay both those cars are off how about this Brad keslowski carrying the 1995 to 2000 C STW Tom's Super GT car paint Scheme it's going to try to bring it to Victory Lane over Ty Gibbs yeah we talked about the how this his the complexion of this race could change in a heartbeat and we've seen it twice now so we've got keslowski first Gibbs second Josh Barry running third what a result for Barry over Hamlin and Brisco shr with two of the top five now man reck sent it he sent it boys well I think what he did was he anticipated clearing him I think he sent it in there to do a slide job and then was was a little bit short so you know you see busher down the racetrack right here and reck's like I got to go and tries to dive it in there and I think he wanted to slide up in front of him but you see busher bounc off the wall and he he just he knew he needed to pinch him just like Brad kazlowski pinched him earlier the reason he bounced off the wall he throttled back up and tried to stay in position knowing he had to hit the wall man both cars have right rear Flats unbelievable laid it right back in Brad kow's hands 110 races it's been since he's last won remember when the stat guys told us the stage two winner with this nextg car had never finished better than 25th here it bit reic yes it did stat guys rued Matt McCall Brad kazlowski I think all of that was set up by how hard Brad kazlowski ran the 45 on that last restart well I I you know I think it look the six and the 45 they they got together and made that same mistake and they got away with it without having flat tires and then you see um you know the 17 and the 45 make contact and they both wound up with with flat right rear tires so you know they the six and the 45 got lucky but it worked out for Brad now more bad news for Tyler reic you have to have all four tires completely inside the commit box to have a legal Pit Stop he did not so commitment line violation had to do a pass through penalty well we were watching it as he pitted there and it looked close out the window unfortunately he didn't you could hear yesterday after qualifying Brad keslowski just unbridled desire to win and know how close they are and it's all paid off right here today well the thing that I love about Brad kazlowski is is he went to RFK and said I'm going to turn this place around and he is that type of leader and person and has made this company better he spent so much time um working on making the company right and he hasn't been in the Victory Lane but he's been fast enough to don't give him this win yet this Gibbs is coming Ty Gibbs is coming ladies and gentlemen the last lap Gibbs was 3/10 faster he's 3/4 of a second behind with three to go well I'm bad at math [Music] Mike bring it around here to two to go you know that kid's giving it as all Ty Gibbs trying to become the first firsttime winner at Darlington since rean Smith clean track ahead no lap traffic stay out of this fence get you a good solid comfortable lap this is a huge win five times a bridesmaid 110 races got to get around here to be official this last lap is a lap Brad kazlowski has been waiting waiting three years to run and you're right he came over here big gamble put it on his shoulders and did it left a championship continuing team and organization White Flag one lap to go Co sponsored by Credit One Bank well Brad Kowski is Four Corners away from getting back into Victory Lane he has done a fantastic job we knew that this was a style of Racetrack and we knew he had a good car yesterday qualified well and that put him in position to do exactly what he's done [Music] today RFK they're here they're back both of those cars were a factor and it's Brad keslowski so happy for this guy three years of trying since tallad April 21 Brad keslowski wins the goodye 400 36th career win Ford's first win too by the way well they have definitely made a whole bunch of ground from where they were 10 weeks ago appreciate it effort today lot of drama at the end way to get through it TJ appreciate your help love to have me American flag down there if you got one Matt McCall the winning Crew Chief and I think we'll see an American flag if there's one handy there on the pit box about Josh Barry right there top five a third place finish for him fantastic day for those guys Chase Brisco nice rebound for this part of the season in fifth Justin Haley Ninth Place phenomenal day out of Ty Gibbs it's a hard place to get around proved his his work behind the wheel did a great job all day this is the second win for keslowski at Darlington he's had 21 starts here and he becomes the first driver to win for the team that he co-owned since Tony Stewart at Sona in [Music] 2016 four different drivers have gone to Victory Lane for Jack Rous at Darlington there's a guy clear up on the f this will be a popular win for everybody in the garage area it'd be a lot of emotion out of Brad and kazlowski carries the American flag in a Polish Victory lap and waves to the fans in the front stretch grandstand Brad kazlowski is just a you know he's just a a phenomenal asset when it comes to building a race team because of his College he's obviously Talent talented enough to to win races and do the things that he needs to do inside the race car but what a turnaround for this whole organization over the last two years well to borrow a line from Horatio aler Brad kazlowski is NASCAR's Mr strive and succeed hard work pays off look at this busher Matt at [Music] Reck I know what was that about as soon as I knew wasn't going to work I tried to back out I thought the last thing I want to do is your I can care less about mine I'm sorry I up I up it doesn't work for me you don't have that sticker on right now huh need to be better I don't have that sticker on my this means more need to be better we red each other just fine for so long we apologize for the language but we understand the frustration busher is saying I don't have that sticker on my car meaning The Checkered Flag the wind sticker that gets him in the playoff reic said the worst thing I wanted to do was get into your car I'm sorry I screwed up had himself in position two weeks in a row too got it taken from him that's that's a tough pill to swallow I can understand the frustration [Applause] a moment that Brad kazlowski has waited three years for that Ford and Ford fans have waited all season for here he is with his second Darlington win [Music] finally rean Brad Kowski ends 110 race winless streak you get your 36 career Victory Brad but this is the first one driving for a company with your name on the side of it how special is that oh it's uh what a heck of a day uh it's Darlington so whether it's your first win your last win it's just a really special track it's a the history of NASCAR it's as tough as it gets and then that battle at the end with my teammates how retic and I we're just all laid it all out on the line it was freaking awesome I I thought it couldn't get much better in Kansas it did today that was awesome I'm so glad you guys got to see that that was incredible thanks for being here we did it just three G 34 ago Brad you mentioned that battle with Tyler reick you lost control of the race at that moment did you think it was all over with at that point I mean it wasn't good uh but I knew that uh I'd have another shot at it my car was really good on the long runs and when Tyler got underneath rean or a tire got underneath Chris I knew I had another shot at it when they made contact and I couldn't get by I'm like oh and they must have got a flat tire I don't know what happened and we got we caught a break you know we've caught enough bad breaks over the last you know year or two it's nice to catch a good one Brad kazlowski wins on Mother's Day weekend in [Applause] Darlington and on the flip side Chris busher his teammate it was an emotional week for you after the finish last week it ends emotional now Chris take me through that battle with Tyler reick and why are you so frustrated what did you say to him uh we got wrecked I I don't I mean that one's uh that one's clear as day uh don't need any cameras to tell us but uh I don't know what to say um we we've raced each other really Queen Through The Years uh try and be respectful about it and uh thanks Jack um try to be really respectful about it and uh we get used up uh and something that you just know is not going to work so uh just really pissed off about it right now um you know we uh certainly had a chance to win another one uh really proud to uh to have that speed uh huge congratulations to Brad and uh and the spch and cash r on their win uh you know that's awesome uh but man I wanted it for our Fifth Third Bank group right here and um I just F we got used up and U he knows he messed up he said it but it doesn't change anything for us uh I told him he's got a wind sticker on the door and uh you know we we we're still trying to find ours and uh and we get used up like that take away those um those opportunities it's tough um that's two weeks in a row we've had a shot to win races and uh you one uh I'm going to live in my head Forever on what I would have done different in this one here uh I need someone else to be more mature about it heartbreak two weeks in a row for Chris busher let's hear from the other side of that story we'll go back here and find Tyler reic of course everybody hearing his side of the story will step right on in here talking in the radio right now dominated this race led the most laps heck of a battle at the end Tyler we saw the emotion it was your race to lose we saw the battle with Chris busher he came up and got in your face take me through your side of things and what transpired yeah I completely understand where he's coming from um he's running the top run his own race run his own line uh keep me a bay and yeah I made a really aggressive move and I was hoping I was going to clear him and when I realized I wasn't going to I tried to check up and not slide up into him but but yeah just I wish I wouldn't have done that unfortunately I completely understand why he's that mad I mean he did nothing wrong and just trying to win the race and you know take myself out that's that's one thing like I can live with that I'm um just disappointed it played out the way it did and took him out of the race as well um that was not that was not the goal there you know if I was going to go for it I was hoping I was going to clear him if I hit the wall pop a tire you know I take myself out like I can live with that right um it's it's tough to uh walk away KN and I you know use someone up and took someone out of the took them away took their chance away from winning the race that that's raced me really cleanly um since it came in the Cup Series so just have to work on that and I don't know try to make some better decisions going forward thanks Tyler let's go back to Regan T Gibs comes home in second place today Ty looked like after all the chaos that was ensuing up front there you were coming at the end you just need a few more laps yeah I think uh I just honestly need a track position that'd be great and um getting out front uh before those guys started racing it was really really hard to pass today and um that middle is super super slick and and really honestly really gummy and and and slick so uh it's just really hard to pass and and it's just really important to keep track position but overall we had a great he gets us to a Camry my uh 54 group did a great job thank you to Monster Energy all glory to man above and we'll keep rolling all right good run thanks Ty daughters Autumn and Scarlet accompany their dad Brad keslowski to Victory Lane on Mother's Day in Darlington how cool is that what a day Jack Rous in Victory Lane with his partner Rous Fenway Sports Group the Third Leg of that trium vert that own that team five Fords in the top 10 so let's not worry about how competitive the Fords are this this year they are right there well we've definitely got a we've got a a three manufacturer battle on our hands now we've seen it on a mile and a half we've seen it on a war out slick racetrack now um it's not just RFK this week you know you've you you and but we see the move here again you know I I understand when we talked about the 45 car was trying to drive in there far enough and slide up in front of busher to do the slide job but he missed uh as as you heard him say when they were having their discussion so uh unfortunate for those two guys but I just want to say this this crowd did not leave these people appreciate Brad kazlowski and the things that he has done in this sport they stuck around they wanted to cheer for him and and uh what what a great way to end a end a winless streak another Heartbreaker for that busher you see him going by the wayside right there but putting RFK in Victory Lane with that guy busher had three of them last year he was sat back and watched all that after moving over putting his name on the billboard of that place now he's standing in Victory Lane with his part partner Jack Rous pretty cool NASCAR Race Hub week nights the Allstar race next weekend on FS1 from North wilksboro what a day in Darlington one will never forget Brad keslowski finally goes to Victory Lane stay tuned for PBA bowling the PBA playoffs quarterfinals the Goodyear 400 to the keyer Brad kazlowski [Music] best I know there's only one see the on my blood I bed game is walking away from another mistake cuz is do your hand I'm calling on you you can Stand and Deliver we don't [Applause] think [Applause] [Music] River this copyrighted telecast may not be reproduced retransmitted or used in any form without the authorized
