Drivers' Reaction After the Race | 2024 Italian Grand Prix

lots of emotions I mean uh the we we stopped quite uh early but but still too late because Lando actually undercut us and there I was okay maybe the race is going away from us and also Oscar had a good Pace but I didn't demotivate myself I kept uh pushing and try to keep those tires just to have most freedom on the one or two stops we wanted to do we wanted to make the the One Stop work at the beginning um then we saw Red Bull struggling with the heart and we're like maybe the two stops is better uh so that's why we stopped early and then there was a long way to go uh but then once the two McLaren once the two McLaren stopped I found a lot more grip not having the dirt ofy in front and uh and the pace came back to us so from that moment onward I was like why not try it and and the team obviously uh said it as well so we were both Aline and uh it's great just just hurts really uh drove a very good race um the two stop seemed like the best strategy at the time uh you know the the graining through the rest of the weekend was very tough and as soon as we got it it uh was very very difficult to manage I started getting graining on the first hard and uh you know I felt like we would have enough Pace difference on on a new set of tires to go and attack just a few laps Too Short yeah pretty pretty crappy day for my side um but I still drove the best I could you know obiously just didn't some bits not good enough um uh so yeah I mean I'm trying to make up for uh just being not good enough in other parts of the racing you know trying to get faster slap and stuff like that um one point grade but being second or first is a lot a lot easier to get points so um yeah some things clearly welcome I was honestly very very happy with how the first part of the race went then for some reason we extended a lot the first end while the heart look very strong when when they box and I lost their six seven seconds of race time that probably just made me lose the train of the RS and the train of tow and then I was a bit in no man's land no we still managed to make the on to work but it didn't quite uh work the same way as as it did with shs it a really dull dull day uh I was hoping to have more pace and be able to progress but I couldn't even I mean I was I think as quick for for a while with uh Carlos but then I couldn't I had more de I think maybe cuz I was right behind I'm not sure but um yeah just today for some reason we didn't have the pace to be honest I wasn't really frustrated throughout the race just doing my own race um yeah the pace was not there but yeah we had a bad pit stop I think our strategy was not on point today even though of course it wouldn't have changed uh our position I think we could have done a better race in general it doesn't help that you can't run full power for most of the race with the engine because we had an issue um so yeah all in all um a pretty bad race yeah I made a good start alongside Oscar he had the slipstream from from Lando and when he pulled out in front of me and hit the brakes I misjudged him hit the brakes my side and I was locking up the rear tires and I was about to crash into him so I had to take avoid an action and that's where it all all went wrong I was expecting it to be difficult but not this bad and um we basically were slow and high degradation especially in the medium I mean I compromis a little bit my race I think to keep up George behind but um that worked quite well you know for us because we were able to hold George behind for a little bit and in the end he came really close to Max so I think it made a difference to to the to the team in terms of points that we we secure today I felt very comfortable in the first in and then in the second s the the fronts were so hard to manage and I was having to underdrive so much to to protect the front left side from gry um and yeah it was one of them ones where uh the torest wins roace and just slowly slowly um just knew I had to keep it consistent make sure that front left didn't open up and then uh as Fernando was coming there was a bit of Jaws music and then uh luckily we uh we held on happy with our race I mean I I don't know what's going on with these penalties um I mean what's the point we we had a slight contact into turn four no damage on either car it had no consequence nobody lost anything we both missed the corner but hey you know we're racing I just don't get the point honestly so I saw NCO almost you know at 300 km an hour almost uh hit the barrier with the contact with Ricardo and he got five 5 seconds I got 10 seconds for this so I disappointed because I think we did a very good start we overtook Nico and then good strategy with the two stops we undercut Alex we were running P9 comfortably but uh yeah at the end uh with second stop we could not um catch uh quick enough Alex and uh we finished 8/10 of the second behind him and one10 of the second behind Magnuson so yeah for 1 second two positions is is too costy and too painful I very happy of course with the performance we had this weekend um a lot of question marks going into the race of course I never done more than eight laps in a row before in an F1 car and today we're 53 to do with very high track temps the highest of the weekend um and and a lot of unknown things but I think I've done a good job I think yeah we just weren't quite fast enough the start was um the start I mean I was enjoying it some banging and will to whe but then obviously turn eight um I tried to just have a have a word to Nico cuz you don't see it you know obviously I'm aware I'm fighting and there's a car alongside me but you don't really know like I I thought we were good and then I felt the contact so I obviously immediately assumed I didn't give him enough enough room obviously it's tough CU you yeah you race hard but little things can obviously make a difference so yeah sorry for him and then we had the the penalty so we tried everything this weekend um you know whether in qualifying you know we tried to qualify with the us or new tire we tried both um today in the race you know we try a reverse strategy um I managed to stay on the One Stop on the other side you know Pi did a different one so you know we need to to have a proper look on exactly you know what was best in onight to be doing maybe it was a something different maybe we should have you know start on the medium and then go on the on the hard and try and hang on there but you know um we covered all the grounds and unfortunately it was not enough today so it was a very long afternoon uh must say I'm very disappointed cuz I I saw that somehow in the race things will get better compared to yesterday um and it was actually worse so um we had some some break issue yesterday after we found out after quali which carried on uh this afternoon um cow was bouncing a lot and we just had no grip out there I was hoping it would work out and uh yeah before stopping I was really really hoping for either a safety guard or something because the the pace is still so that we we still need luck to get into the poison unfortunately but I think it was good to try you know um I wouldn't do anything different if I do the race again so on that side it was clean just a very poor first lap um just yeah seem to have a bad timing and wrong wrong position all the time and then uh into turn eight um got a real good toe of Danny so I choose the outside line but he he swept across quite a lot and didn't really leave the the the car with so uh we made contact put me off a bit and the racing incident with with Yuki um you know did the rest front Wing change uh plus a penalty that you have to serve you know you lose so much time and then into blue flags it just uh came over the pace we had today I think it's about where we are at the moment obviously try a little bit different tire to comp to teammate but Hopey for maybe happen with the safety car but then when is a smooth race I think it's really difficult to pick up further ground that way we were but at least we was together with the pace with the guys around us it was as expected um just yeah not competitive uh this weekend you saw that contact with Nico is that why you had to retire yeah just the the damage of floor is uh just too much and uh I saw he's looking up um into turn one and um I tried to escape and just got Tred to give the space as much as possible but yeah just uh crash into me so um yeah unnecessary move from him
