ly happy I'm happy Yuki you happy everyone's happy I'm happy okay then we will begin let's go what's the most satisfying part of being a Formula 1 driver the most satisfying part of being a racing driver I think it's just always when you get in the car it's like if anyone gets excited about roller coaster ride and you get in and you're like ner you know there's nerves there excitement there's just a mix of emotions as you anticipate to get going and when you get in the cockpit and you see everyone around you know so well orchestrated putting the wheels on then to firing up the car all that kind of experience and then leaving the pit Lane that is one of the single most exciting moments going on track and being free in a way get to drive as quickly as I can being on the limit qualifying for example low fuel and and you feel like you really did a a great lap the acceleration the dforce the grip um nothing compares to to F1 what was the moment when you realized you could make it to Formula One I think when I was in F3 gp2 those were the the days that things were looking a little bit closer probably in Formula 2 so very very late in my career maybe two or 3 months before I actually signed my contract probably halfway through my F2 season when I was in Formula 2 I around when I was driving Formula 2 that's when I thought okay we can definitely make this uh dream become a reality I didn't really dare to think about it too much before then but yeah once I started having some success in F2 then it became a realistic Target I don't think I truly knew it was possible till I moved to Europe and kind of tested myself against the best this is when I was yeah 17 18 yeah relatively late actually when my dad told me back in Abu Dhabi 2014 and then I could finally enjoy and yeah it was probably the best day of my life until then actually after the first race in Australia after my debut in 2001 until that point it was just uh more a hobby and I was just racing in different categories but Formula 1 seemed unreachable yeah I only knew it and it only sort of sunk in when I was at my first race looking back where did your drive and competitiveness come from it already started when I was like 3 years old four years old uh playing video games or racing outside on a quad bike when I was a kid I wanted to be beat every single driver on track you're timing yourself and you try to go faster and faster and you want to be the best basically my drive came from bullying abuse struggle all channeled into the thing that I actually really love I was passionate about it my drive in competitiveness probably came from I think my dad my dad my dad um used to race a little bit I guess uh it started from there he was doing cycling when he was younger for him you know winning was uh was everything he was a racing driver and I very much got it from him I grew up in a family with four brothers older brothers and already from three four years old I always saw that um feeling of uh competition even against them I just uh yeah took that mindset to the to the racetrack from the first time I I was out there and um yeah it just stuck with me until now how hard is it to succeed in F1 I don't know I haven't succeeded yet so well it's not easy to succeed for sure uh there's only one guy doing it right now so when I entered Formula 1 I I didn't know what was going to happen of course you're very dependent on on your car in terms of if you're winning or you're on the back of the grid so you need a bit of luck of course as well you need to be faster you need to be different you need to be more competitive this isn't an individual sport it's a team sport there's a lot of people imagine having 2,000 people in on the own boat all have to run in the same way the biggest thing I noticed in my first season last year was that when you get to F1 every mistake is severely punished whereas in junior formulas you can get away with them I think dealing with pressure you have to uh get used to it because pressure is always there to to succeed at anything is incredibly hard Formula 1 it's the 20 best drivers in the world the best teamed in the world so to be Victorious and to succeed in in the sport is of course extremely challenging if you could give advice to your younger self what would it be enjoy the ride enjoy the moment it will go quick just to believe in yourself more especially in uh tough moments worry less focus more and enjoy it more I mean I'll just say like a simple one work harder don't be afraid to fail I think those failures are so important for your own growth they teach you so many lessons they're vital to progress in to be calm I was always shouty I was reactive you can push harder P flat out shut up nice pise like traffic Paradise what is this one are you calm now for now yes how would you describe your job to a 5-year-old uh I would describe my job to a 5-year-old that I drive rocket ships as fast as I can I drive around in circles very very fast first one that gets to the Finish Line wins that's what I try and do every weekend I'll probably explain something funny like uh when the engine starts and the seat kind of vibrates and it tickles your back I get to drive really fast and get paid to do it dream job for sure you know you get to drive fast cars against the best drivers you get to travel the world say that I drive the coolest and fastest race Cary in the world like when you drive to school that's what we do but very very fast I would uh probably talk about the suits uh you know um we look maybe a little bit with like superheroes it's not true though but we look at least I would show the movie cast and say we like the Lightning McQueen do you have a nickname I do my nickname is Bob can we ask why my friends just said I just came up with it it's just instead of using my name in public I just use Bob sir Lancelot my uh Formula 1 nickname is the Honeybadger my friends call me all sorts of names I don't know if their nicknames but let's stick with the Honeybadger probably Hulk yeah Hulk and for my Italian fans it's hini hini my dad always um when I was a little kid would call me a little bit different but uh I'm not going to say that on camera some friends call me Shalo in F1 Smooth Operator my friends call me chili Smooth Operator Smooth Operator Operator my nickname is czecho when I first moved to Europe I had the nickname Bruce as I'm sure pretty much every Australian does going to Europe but I haven't been called that for years now my nickname is Albano why is that when I was 14 15 when I was racing I used to have to have my blood type next to my suit so it would always be Alex albon and then O+ and then Albano was the was the creation oh cool I that uh pedal from my brothers and uh yeah we'll stop here never the nicknames not that I can't remember right now okay so imagine you have a very rare day off from Formula 1 what does your ideal day look like my ideal day of work would be surfing no calls no text messages basically no phone just really off like nothing to do with racing my ideal day off would be um doing absolutely nothing sleep long I do like my sleep sleep till about 11:00 a.m. if not later I wake up in the morning normally do a couple hours of sport then start the morning the day with a coffee about eight coffees nice coffee nice breakfast a brunch uh together with my partner Tiffany probably just lounge around on the couch play on my simulator play video games that's probably it I love a day on the sofa go and play some golf then would do a Scenic training session on a bike and then finish the day off with some good food and a sauna go to some outside restaurant meet some friends open a bottle of Rosé and uh have a boozy lunch and just take it from there 2 hours of piano an hour and a half of paddle lunch with my family then sleeping an hour after lunch I'm always tired after lunch so I need my sleep and then maybe if we can have like a a car truck close to it take three four cars and go and have fun with my my brothers and then a dinner with friends and then a big party dinner is very important you know um always thinking about like what I'm having for dinner you know first thing when I wake up in the morning that's like probably my most exciting part of the day if yeah dinner's really good I hate you I'm with you I love dinner I really want dinner right now what scares you anything tulous spiders crocodile scare me snakes I do not like snakes or great white sharks I mean sharks are pretty scary feel like someone's going to give a really philosophical answer everyone's going to go you I think what scares me most is not living up to my full potential to not have fun probably yeah I like that when I'm not in control flying well I'm not a great flyer which is a problem being a Formula One driver we fly every week basically every two or 3 days they still not the best moment of the day sometimes turbulence in an airplane raises my heart rate quite a bit Heights death insects and animals and that stuff being a passenger driving on the roads uh quite a few things scare me what's your most used emoji must use the emoji H I like my the Emoji stuff I think that one I don't know if I do it too well but that's the one I think the the one with the like like laughing crying crying while laughing you know which one definitely the laughing face that one goes at the end of most messages The Laughing one there's a chili Emoji too the Spanish flag one I like yeah and the kisses one or any of those probably leave a thumbs up emoji it's probably the okay sign so it's quite a simple one you can also to every single individuals either the smiley face back like reversed or the CHF kiss the one that blows kisses yeah probably like the pound fist or the heart fire a lot of Hearts it's good energy probably like the the love heart or something a yeah it's cute huh that's really cute I use a lot of love hearts just the standard red love heart I'm a loving person probably a heart when texting with my girlfriend a it's probably the hard Emoji texting with my wife I have to use those otherwise she gets uh I don't know that's probably the heart how do you say like uh you know the thing the dribble dribbling yeah that one just eating yeah okay mhm I can see that I like this one you know uh I like
