preparations to get my body in shape for football season until the first week of preseason so I got to start this week I'm starting my regimen to get ready get my liver in game day shape I'm doing Cherry Coke I mean cherry cherry Dr Pepper and bird dog caramel whiskey I'm I'm getting I'm getting ready I could Pro you know what honestly I don't know if they would be um official sponsors and give us cash but I am I'm like 75 or 80% sure I could get you a good amount of free Dr Pepper product if you wanted it I can get Dr Pepper Cherry yes I'm dead serious uh I I know somebody who's high up in in DP you know a guy I know a guy I love DP in in fact I I produced some Dr Pepper merch myself for him so uh I feel like is about to make a DP joke I'm looking I phrased I phrased it the way I phrased it uh but anyway I am drinking uh while we're while we're hyping up my buddy's companies uh I'm drinking uh parlo beer lab in the by water go see them go buy them buy their beer here now it's to be honest it's a 2005 single vintage I have had this before I'm not a big fan which is why it's still pretty full but if you pick that I'll have it uh if you really hate me this is probably my least favorite of the bunch this is a local Charlottesville rum it's called V it's it's uh it's made locally here it's not very good yes that one should I keep going or is that your pick that's the Twitter is Stirring the Pot Twitter part parts of it certain accounts Andrew disgust me and this is why they are purposely depressing Saints fans and trying to make them not interested in the team and have negative energy and this is my proof Thomas play this sound bite that was going around Twitter of olve and if you listen to it you'd be like oh my God he hates kubak he hates da the offense is gonna suck Chris olve thinks the Saints are dog crap play that sound by Thomas this is what was going around kind of stopped and been like oh we're going to be good this year uh I mean it's okay if it was your yeah not really um that's what they were playing that's they was the question I couldn't hear it that's what they were playing da they're like oh uh what's the offense how's it going to look and he's like ah is it going to be okay he's like no not really and they cut it off and they're like oh Chris he hates kubia he hates da he hates Derek Carr the Saints are going to be trash isn't this twitters let's hear that the rest of kind of felt that during OTAs during spring training uh with the new offensive install uh I know we got the players we got the weapons uh be able to bring that scheme in here is gonna be great so I felt that uh during spring camp normal sound B normal Andrew yeah but why so he just started his sentence with no and then agreed yeah no but I don't no this is the in the initial reaction of it all and then had to backtrack and backpedal and just give you the stereotypical stuff so I honestly I I think you're glossing over this no I think you're I I think don't feel like he you have some players on your team that are like great spokespersons de Mario Davis Cam Jordan Alvin got some guys that are hilarious really right really good behind the mic and other guys that like aren't great public speakers Chris okay well call me crazy but I feel like the guys that are good public speakers those are the guys that know what to say and are going to say what you want to hear and the guys that are not great public speakers are the ones that has always been transparent here's the thing though Dave here's the thing though Dave if you wanted to be if you want to have that discussion about olve what he you could have played the whole sound bite like we did but on Twitter they didn't and it was big giant Saints accounts playing the just the first five seconds because they want to depress the Saints fan base and get them less excited about isn't that kind of the way of the internet though like you just screenshot whatever like however you needed to frame your argument can you play the whole sound bite straight through can I hear it again uh I don't have the whole sound ready oh oh you don't have the whole thing oh come on I'm going the sexy clip Facebook wherever I see them all over they wanted this to be true your point is that point is that people want this to be true and they're taking it and they're running with it and they they want to continue to spread the word that would I get it actually you know what I'm gonna back here I don't even think this is on crystal La the reporter is it to blame like I don't even understand what she's asking poor well poor reporters reporters ask really poor questions because if you ask you they they're rambling they're in many parts and all this I'm just saying reporters podcast hosts yes that can you imagine ralphing these players Ralph's always you know armchair quarterbacking the media and being like oh why aren't they asking the tough questions but if Ralph was on the podium asking these players questions can you imagine the fumbles that would come out of his No actually that's partially true at the beginning but I got coached and this is how you ask a question you when you ask a question needs to be short who what when where why so they can't answer yes or no if you do that the questions are good right never I was terrible at first I'll probably be terrible again because I haven't done it in like 20 years um so I just you've been hosting a podcast for the last 20 years R you're doing fine like if you talk but I mean we just interviewed Brett marel two days if you told you got you gotta keep things moving for me I don't know I'm New York so like I said the saints were off but Looking at Saints Depth Chart the big thing from the the big thing that happen is they released the depth chart uh The Unofficial depth chart and it had some interesting stuff on it Andrew um Sal dear is not starting guard and the defensive tackle Boyd is running with the second is running with the twos Thomas can you put up can you can you put up the uh the depth chart there we go it's kind of small maybe in I'm in my I'm in my 40s Ralph I can't see that well yeah pull up the microphone Theos scope and the the the extra tragic news the extra tragic news at strong safety my boy Millard Filmore he's running with the fours so he's gonna be cut he's gonna be cut any day now um what does what does the red mean are they injured they are injured yes okay yes so does any starting tight end since Shan does anything sheer strike you Andrew or Dave that surprising well I I still think our offensive line sucks uh I think in in particular left guard and right tackle I'm most concerned uh I don't I don't think Penning is ready to start I I don't think Lucas Patrick is any good so Jes I I would say that uh offensive line is a major major question mark now I do think the scheme makes playing offensive line a little bit easier so I think they'll be able to smoke in Mirror it a little bit and I maybe they'll be okay but there are two huge question marks on the offensive line and and I know I'm kind of repeating myself from previous podcast but we're not even like talking about left tackle we're we're just assuming the rookie has played a damn snap in his entire like his his NFL career will start on September what is it the 6th against the Panthers so like we're just assuming it's going to be fine there and I don't know that it is it's just by comparison to the other question marks we have it feels pretty solid Soh offensive Line's a big question mark tight end sucks tight end like Foster Maro is your starter and then the next best guy is a udfa that's undiz like tight end hair is amazing though yeah his hair is amazing but here C's unhappy about his deal you know running back is is not that deep so like I'm looking at this offense and like that's great that ubx going to save the day and Spencer Rattler according to the fan base might start week one and he's the next Patrick Mahomes that's all great but I am I'm very concerned Spencer Rattler his his hat during that interview was absolute fire but I have um I have some notes as well I have well I have a question for you I have a question for you you can ask me the question after I'm done talking go no no put the put the thing back I need to reference the the roster uh depth chart um one thing T Hill fourth quarterback wow what an insult uh I thought he was better than that a quarterback I guess not so we're not gonna see much of tesm Hill this year I guess um a guy that has cancer yeah I mean come on that's serious like seriously the guy with cancer cancer yeah uh and then um here's something that I I I did I'm surprised Andrew didn't mention Brian bie uh not starting he's a number one draft pick I second year uh he should be starting right he should be number one on the death right what's up with that what going on what are we doing had a little foot injury had a little foot injury I have a reaction to that um well first of all is it an allergic reaction uh just because he's not listed as a starter doesn't mean he's not going to play and not going to play meaningful snaps I think Bry is the best pass rushing defensive tackle they have by far pass rushing Downs he's definitely playing he's definitely gonna have more sacks than any of those guys this season don't don't threaten me with a good time Andrew however however if he wants to play more and get more snaps he's going to have to get better against the Run here's my question and this will fre this will freak out Saints Twitter if it happens and of course they the pitchforks will come out for Mickey Lumis even more more than they already are Andrew I look at this depth chart I see Jaylen Ford a draft pick third string I don't even see bum memes anywhere on the wide receiver depth chart that could be yeah two draft picks are they in real danger of not making this team which yeah they may or may not clear waivers I don't know but they weren't like they were like fifth round picks right so yeah that'd be that'd be is that a little bit of a red flag that if that you got two guys that are middle of the round not making I think bang up a little bit but he he's he's been pretty good and so I I think he still has a shot and you know we always talk about what those guys special teams is huge but but linebacker feels really deep you know um and so I think it might be you know you start on the you get cut you you get put on clear waivers you get put on the practice squad and then you know an injury has to happen for you to get elevated at some point the season with bub memes like I don't know what to tell you man like it it's kind of like Kendra Miller like at some point you got to be healthy can we just pretend Tipton was the pick but does that really matter does it really matter if you came this is the part that like people lose their [ __ ] about a fifth round pick that gets cut and then udfa is the one that does well and he makes the team like what difference does it make there's something about burning the draft pick that really chaps fans right like a udfa that makes a team it's like if Pierre Thomas made the team like are you really gonna rake the Saints over the Kohls for Dra Antonio Pitman yeah are you gonna dra rake them over the Kohls about the Pitman pick or should you celebrate the fact that they found Pier Thomas much later and he was better like you know here's the question memes may get the the red shirt uh is Jason champagne saying in the chat um here here's a question they they play Arizona 7:00 on Saturday uh in Arizona so I have just a couple of things my first thing Andrew is should da play the starters or more specifically the potential starting offensive line more than usual because they got to get the Kinks worked out and yes as fans we always worry about injuries injuries injuries but like the Saints aren't this perennial playoff team where they know who's going to play they have the depth chart locked in like the 2018 2019 2020 Saints like this offensive line needs to play a ton injuries be damned uh would you agree with that statement yeah yes I think this team feels a lot more like 2006 where Shawn pton was like everybody's playing and we're playing you deep into the preseason no one has jobs on lockdown um you better you better come and talk to me before the game otherwise I'm bringing my Blitz uh if if you don't if you don't do the uh the usual uh you know coaching uh Nici tradition yeah exactly I'm gonna your ass I I feel less that way on the defensive side of the ball just because they have a lot of established guys that are solid players and i' I'd rather especially Cam Jordan really in each phase like you got Cam Jordan on the defensive line de Mario Davis at linebacker Latimore at corner teron Matthew at safety so those guys like we know they're going to start I don't really need to see a lot of those guys in preseason like let's just keep him healthy like get them the Reps they need get him out of there quickly and um and there's a lot of guys like I don't need to see a ton of Granderson I don't really care if Chase young doesn't play much like we know those guys but like yeah it's like going back to the offense I don't know who our number two tight end is I don't know who our number I I think it's Jamal Williams but I don't know who our number two running back is I don't know who's catching passes for us at tight end I don't know who's making plays I don't know who's starting at left guard you know I know Penning is starting at right tackle because we don't have anyone else but like I definitely want him to get some rep so I feel like more on the offensive side of the ball especially with the new playbook like let's put a bunch of guys out there and see who makes plays you don't know who's starting because they haven't signed him yet off of the street that too yeah that is that is so mean and yet so true uh Thomas give us a donation update where are we not high and we we just had a record I thought we had some big celebration or something going on and this is not uh most exciting backup quarterback Battle of my entire Saints fandom we got sexy we got sex John Canfield uh we had um gar Grayson we had Garett Grayson really how could you say that luk Mac yeah but they weren't battling they were just already in they weren't they weren't having a battle no you no I I mean yeah I guess you're since in the Drew Brees era I guess that's what about the jamus sltm starter though Teddy Bridgewater triumphant that's that was for starter all right what about Teddy versus T for back that was that a thing for backup I don't think that was a thing I don't I don't remember that being a thing I I was just trying to be like we got sexy J Kaner and Spencer Rattler like people that's that's that's I'm I'm I'm looking forward to seeing what the two of them can do uh I mean no one is team Haner right what I yeah why not he's got I mean I just think most people are hoping what you don't like oh you want him to die because you don't like you think cancer is cool easy yeah I get it think you want skin cancer to win I get it all right uh no um I think most people have high hopes for what uh Rattler can be Rattler is built for the preseason man I saw style of running around AR videos from training camp and based on those cell phone videos uh that were filmed vertically he is built [Applause] football's back baby who let go for 20.3 interception tying the MVP so here's here's here's the thing that's interesting to me Andrew too about the preseason and I'm not saying I don't think the NFL teams because I watched the Hall of Fame game a little bit the new kickoff rule they didn't do anything interesting or exciting I think teams are going to save that for the regular season but they're used us to be a thing where I remember you told me um it was JT gray and um who's the guy that went to Carolina the defensive tackle shy Tuttle yeah like shy Tut shy Tuttle wasn't on special teams but you were like man he's playing a ton and JT gray is on all the kick teams so with the new kickoff rules I I wonder if there's a path to making the team with a way that we're not used to you know like do you think do you think they're going to shuffle in a bunch of different guys to try to figure it out no I mean no I don't think it's changed much but I I do think th this remains true I think a lot of fans make the mistake of a you know fourth fifth receiver yeah that scores a couple touchdowns makes a bunch of catches in practice and and you know he's clearly the fourth or fifth best playmaker you know of the receiver group let's say and so but but the problem is you've got a you got Shahed you know some other guys number three let's say in this in this hypothetical by the way where was Shahed on the depth chart starter was he yeah yeah I believe I believe opposite of but but you know so I think you've got these receivers and then you you get a guy like Mason Tipton right and he's like making more plays than you know the other guys here's the thing though when you're the fourth best guy you're not going to play unless there's injuries you're not going to play a lot you're not going to get a lot of snaps and the team is always going to prioritize as their fourth or fifth receiver a guy that has a specialized role either on special teams or he blocks better so here's the catch you could be the fourth best playmaker on the team at receiver and not get a roster spot because a receiver that blocks well or receiver that's good on special teams is prioritized because you're never going to play unless the three guys ahead of him get injured so I think that's the mistake that fans when they and I think our listeners are pretty educated but I think in general you know people make the mistake of assuming oh like he's been making plays in Camp like he's got it like if a guy like Mason Tipton can't block like that I mean we've seen like what was that guy's name Kerwin whatever Johnson Steve Irwin Crocodile hun yeah that guy um but I mean the Saints have had a number of like blocking receiver Specialists that never catch balls yeah and they're on the roster over your Camp Heroes like Emanuel Butler Balin yeah and blocking is very apparently it's very important to the Shanahan offense it is important it's important to most offens and and Shah can't block bring back Trin Brandon colan Brandon somebody's got to do it Trin bring byon what's he what's what's tcoin Smith doing nowadays what is he doing I don't know probably waiting I don't think he's on a team Michael Thomas still doesn't have a team yeah Michael jeez much Andrew do you think the Saints might game plan a little bit to like like normally you wouldn't but is there a sense of like on offense you mean yeah on offense like hey the the the offense is new we're doing installs maybe we just do a little bit of game plan and just to make the make it make it feel good give the give the team a little confidence give the fans a little confidence build a little optimism you know like it would be fun if we're like oh my God the Saints are up 2 4 to three on Arizona it have to we have to re-evaluate things this offense is looking great like just just a to do well I think that Derek Carr is a mid level quarterback that could be improved upon uh and I'm just so so again so like I just as much as I hate to admit that and as much as like if you're asking me to place a wager on what I think is gonna happen I do not think that's gonna happen but you know the question was is what do you really want to see like that would that like if you're if we're if we're looking deep down deep into my soul and and I'm exposing myself and if I'm if I'm really yeah I'm just sharing my innermost my innermost feelings honestly that's that's what it is I'm gonna tell I'm gonna make a prediction here Spencer Rattler's game is built for the preseason in the fourth quarter he's mobile he's got a cannon and he does reckless stuff he has the potential in the fourth quarter to be like seven for 10 for a buck 50 and two touchdowns like I'm just saying I'm just he's going to he's going to tear it up in one of these preseason games I'm telling you I'm here for I mean I haven't really I haven't I haven't really given it any Credence or any legitimacy but now since since we're on the subject like like what seriously like what if we what if we have a situation uh where we're week one and you know we've seen at least something from Rattler and we're like we got something here like we got it oh oh got it like Derek and and like week one week two Derek Carr struggles you yeah struggle B what number one [ __ ] all all Spencer Rattler has to do is be pretty good in the preseason saints come out the gate 0 and2 they'll be calling for Spencer R they're already calling for him he hasn't even thrown a pass yet this is happening and they apparently they've been darts even though from what I've seen they're not darts they're just regular f hey I mean I look at this as I I Ralph's statement where he said you know car is a or did you say it Dave that he's a decent quarterback that can be approved upon I I mean I think that says it to a te so the minute we find someone better than Carr that is the future like to me Carr is a stop Gap at best right you know scar Carr is not going to be the Saints quarterback in five years I mean anything's possible but he to me for Carr to be the quarterback of the Saints five years from now he would have to transform his out the Outlook he might have to win a Super Bowl yeah so so I I I don't really see so I'm kind of like viewing him as a bridge to the next guy whether that's Rattler or someone else well so I would love nothing more than to see him come in and and you know I I don't really think Hanner is that guy I think ha could could be with the Saints in five years as a backup that's a possibility you he could kind of carve out like a Chase Daniel thing but I don't really see Hanner as a guy that's gonna be like oh yeah he's an unquestioned starter Rattler's interesting like he has a skill set I the thing about Rattler is I do think coming out of college he wasn't a great college quarterback the processing was slow but unquestionably he has the arm unquestionably he has like the skill set the talent so again I I still don't even know that I don't I don't if the coaching staff or if this offense or whatever it it finds a way to like get the most out of this guy like I actually think he does have starter ceiling yeah and so I would love nothing more he's he Dave he was high school player of the year five star I mean I think I think the The best scenario here is that car Carr has a great season and plays really well but that Rattler is clearly the guy and then a year later you're like in an Alex Smith mome situation I mean maybe that's like unfair to compare Rattler to Mahomes but like you have a young backup that's clearly very good you're ready to give him the keys to the franchise but and so like you got to do something with this veteran guy who actually had a pretty good season Alex Smith in this example but that that's the ideal scenario yeah well like I I think the more important question though is is like if if we're in that situation and if Spencer Rattler actually shows something uh and and if Derek Carr is showing us that maybe he's not that great Rattler is a homeless momes well I guess yeah I know uh I guess the question is is like the more important question is does Dennis Allen is he gonna make that decision like does he have the ball he he does he have theall to make that decision he really D car he's the one that brought Derek Carr here he's he's tied to Derek Carr he's they're both uh you know former Raiders uh any any coach that's worth his salt and da might not be um exactly that's what I'm saying like should make that move and here's why Dave like the minute you can get out of that car contract the the freaking second you can get out of that you have to ask yourself do we reup or is it time to eject and if there is someone on your roster with a minimum rookie deal I know that's ready to step in and give you 85% of what your of car was giving you or better then it's time to make that move the funniest but again but but again I'm asking the question C is can Will would Dennis Allen make that decision I think I think the only way I I think rler would have to be pretty effing I think the only way Dennis Allen would make that decision this year is it would have to be like a like a Dak Prescott situation where like Carr gets injured and Rattler comes in and like b car is ready to come back but they're like the Saints are eight and four and Rattler is gonna be Rookie of the Year Derek I want to respond to one thing that oppenheimer's saying in the chat he's saying this is delusional and all caps I don't think this by the way I I will just say this Oppenheimer and I I I'm guessing a lot of people picking quarterbacks when you compare him to other NFL people he had Spencer Rattler as his number two quarterback in the draft behind behind Caleb Williams number two why why because he's just like he's got the tools he's got the mobility I think his issues can be fixed I think he was in bad situations college and Randy Mueller was like he can be special maybe and Randy Mueller by the way was was a consultant for the Saints this draft and oh by the way Randy Mueller is the guy who traded a second round pick for the second best quarterback in Saints history Aaron Brooks and everybody was passes legit legit top 10 here's the thing if Carr is a top 10 quarterback kubak 100%'s getting a head coaching job some somewhere next year like like book take that I mean honestly dude like the the best case scenario for this season is that kubak gets hired away as a head coach that he's so freaking good in one year with the saints that he gets a job somewhere else and yes that would suck but it means we had a great season yeah I mean you just but the thing is you just kind of have to like trust that like okay they know they need to run the Shanahan system kubak system like maybe the quarterback coach can take it over maybe like you just have to trust da to make like to make the higher and like it's tough because Shawn pyton made a couple of bad defensive coordinator hires but I mean that's just kind of the world that's kind of the world you live in um and even if you had an offensive coach Shawn pton was unique in a sense of he never had like the like a brain drain from his staff because p Michael never went anywhere you know like nobody was hiring the Shaun of Payton assistants away on offense which is weird whereas like McVey Shanahan their entire staffs get purged or or not purged stolen away so yeah that's true um uh Ali Mourinho wants to know where are the old DCS spagnola's in Kansas City being amazing um Joe vit is retired I think or is like Gary Gibbs
