St. Mary Parish, Morgan City receives brunt of damage from Hurricane Francine with 100 mph winds

well St Mary Parish uh also took a hard hit from frantin that's right Bal Rogers in Morgan City surveying all the damag that's been left behind from the storm well I'm in Morgan City Louisiana where they took the brunt of this hurricane it was a 100 mph Category 2 as it moved through this area and we got right into the eyewall or core of the system and that's where those strongest sustained winds were and even some gust as well where I'm at right now is right in front of what looks like some sort of shop or building which got pretty heavily damaged there's was a lot of brick up here a lot of it has fallen to the ground and uh there used to be an awning right here as well and that is also on the ground as well so not only are we seeing tree and power line damage we're seeing a little bit of structural damage as well not only places like this uh we also have some mobile homes with the roofs ripped off and even uh some of the walls collapse as well so a lot of that scen just like this is all around Morgan City and most areas have some trees down power lines down but it looks like there's some more uh localized intense areas where you have this uh type of structural damage and when you see that that's generally telling you of uh strong winds on the Inside Edge of the eyewall known as mesovortices basically like a little tornado and that will cause more localized areas of damage and that's why some areas do not have structural damage but then you get into this tiny little area and damage like this yeah is way worse so yeah they're continuing to clean up here seen helicopters fly around uh wind damage is pretty bad but another thing saw a lot of flash flooding here as well the police chief here was uh telling me that water actually got into several of the homes and uh they didn't expect that water problem to be as bad as it was here so yeah cleaning up the damage here in Morgan City uh power is still out probably going to be several days until they can get the power turned on but live in Morgan City Bay Rogers wbrz Channel 2
