Caitlin Clark Has Historic TRIPLE DOUBLE To Help Lead The PLAYOFF BOUND Fever To Another Win

welcome back to the channel thank you so much for checking out this video hope you're having a fantastic day shout out to the 19 cousins we are rolling into our Indiana Fever post game video they pulled one out against the LA Sparks tonight it was an interesting game so I'm I'm gonna start with a few positives in terms of some Milestones shout out to Coach side coach of the month for August very impressive congratulations shout out to Clark for rookie of the month and player of the month and for Clark shouting out Mitchell who Clark said was very deserving of player of the month and I agree it could have easily been either one of them Indiana Fever moved to 18 and 16 two games above 500 a full game up on the Phoenix Mercury League best five game winning streak seven- one since play resumed from the Olympic break now before we get into some other stuff we'll start off with with one good highlight for you be for a couple of reasons one it's just a beautiful play two again people kayin Clark can only shoot threes can't take anyone off the dribble has no mid-range game this is what I keep being told oh my goodness if she starts making shots like that what's a defense to do I really don't know all right before I get into some details of the games I got to shout out a few more things Caitlyn Clark another triple double 24 points 10 assists 10 rebounds that's two and we know she was very close on a couple other occasions No rookie has ever had one in a season so hey also first player not rookie player in wmba history to have a season recording 200 or more assists and a 100 or more made threes she is by the way the fastest player to 100 made threes in WNBA history doing in 34 games the fastest before her was Ryan Howard in 40 games she also has now tied Brianna Stewart for the most 25 and five games in a single season with 12 Brianna did it last year a season in which she also won the MVP okay now what about this game I I I'm not sure it was a little Blu little blah wasn't all that impressed with it and yet they still managed to score over 90 points and win the game even if it was against the Sparks but look the Sparks have been playing well as Ria Jackson has gotten more and more into the game gotten more and more time and has developed she's a heck of a ball player they picked up SIMs not that long ago remember we talked about her going to the fever she was picked up by the LA Sparks but look it was not a good start it was a really bad first half I I am I am amazed that the game was close in the first half and I think there's only one reason that it was close and that was because the Sparks missed way too many layups they were getting layup attempts at will against the Indiana Fever tonight mostly in the first half and they were Miss in a lot of them there was no transition play they weren't getting out on the break especially in the first half they were a little the second half was better than the first but the entire team was sloppy again more in the first half in the second they averaged I think 15 turnovers a game they had 11 in the first half alone and it wasn't just Caitlyn and it wasn't the typical we're going to throw a high-risk High reward pass it was sloppy stuff with the ball two backcourt violations that were sloppy the defense like I just said with the Sparks getting the layups the defense was not good again thank goodness the Sparks missed a lot of layups earlier the fever could have been down 15 20 points in the first half I'm sorry I have it as 12 I thought I heard the announcers say 11 but I get put down a note as 12 in the first half either way too many they're only three of 11 from three as a team so let's let's go to this first Kelsey Mitchell was not making her threes tonight now look Kelsey played a good game so don't get all crazy on me she she played uh she played solid tonight eight of 18 picked up 18 points grabbed four rebounds had a couple assists but she was only two of seven for three the two wasn't really falling for her tonight Lexi Hall only took two shots Boston people were worried about her Boston saw a lot of good things from Boston tonight she had 24 points 14 rebounds for AIS and a steel 10 of 16 although she had a couple open short jumpers that she were way short I wish she could have made those obviously Caitlyn Clark had a fantastic game she had a monster third quarter that's when I think things really got going she had 10 points nine points at half 10 points in the third quarter 24 points 10 assists 10 rebounds eight of 17 from the field four- 10 from three and that was really I mean the team didn't shoot well from three seven of 22 I think they usually take about 26 threes a game as well they shot pretty well overall 33 for 67 but again they usually take more shots because despite getting 93 points it it just seemed like a much slower paced game tonight they just never they never seem to get out of second gear I despise their halfcourt offense 90% of the time if they're not playing if they're playing against a team with a really good interior defense their half Court's really really in trouble Aaliyah Boston saved them tonight with their half court offense especially keeping them in the game with their slow start Aaliyah Boston was real she had her way with the the Sparks defense in the post tonight but other than that their half court offense a lot of times comes down to Caitlyn Clark make doing something individually and then the team getting something out of that but it was it was really good to see Clark and Boston working well together I got to give a shout out to Nelissa Smith she didn't get the rebound she's usually been getting but you know four of eight from the field she shot the free throws well five six had 13 points had an assist to steal had three blocks tonight and look Melissa Smith drives me crazy because niss Melissa Smith has a lot of talent right when I when I get on Nelissa Smith's case it's not because she's not a good player it's because she is she because she has talent and she doesn't always show it uh one thing I noticed that really drives me crazy I I don't think she's done it in a little while but she has done it too many times at the end of quarters Caitlin Clark will have the ball at the end of quarters and have a chance to create and take a shot and then she'll give it up to a teammate and put that teammate in a position where there's just not enough time to make anything happen it happened at the end of the third quarter tonight when she gave up the ball to Katy Lou ktie Lou didn't have time to make anything happen they don't even get a shot at all alone a high quality shot and that drives me crazy about 422 to go there was a great example of what I talked about in a previous video about getting out on the break and what the bigs can do and trailing the play and that was when Caitlyn Clark pulled up on the left side and Melissa Smith trailing and running the Lan the the lane down the middle and Clark makes a nice pass gets to the ball she's got momentum she goes to the hoop she gets fouled Lexi Hall played really well tonight Lexi Hall didn't get a lot of shots I blame that again on that half court offense they weren't getting out and running kudos to the Sparks for doing a good job of getting back on defense but without that transition you didn't see Lexi Hall getting looks for open threes she took one three tonight but I will say the biggest thing I think a a if I'm going to take away something positive is or two things they didn't play great but they won and they're learning to close out games they've been very good late in games recently and that's hugely important when you start playing tougher competition and you want to make a run in the playoffs now we we'll go through a couple of uh some and walk through stuff this was a fantastic pass to Boston but again this is Caitlyn Clark's Talent bailing you out I mean just before I even get started look at this and I commented I mean I shouted at the TV to shouted at the TV to myself you know what I mean I was all by myself and I'm talking to the TV but you can see even see it from the start of this video here look where Caitlin Clark is they've blitzed her and everyone's run away dtis is wide open but she's not looking to receive the ball Lexi Hall's all the way in the corner and I get that from her where's Kelsey Mitchell I mean I think I guess she's setting a a pick for uh Boston here but this is the type of stuff that I'm talking about and they get something good out of it because this is a crazy pass but you can't be expecting this to play to be made folks now thankfully I'll run up one more time and I'll slow it just a a little bit um thankfully I think the defense makes a mistake here what am I doing because I think both Defenders should have stayed if they realized what the fever were set up with with on their offense I think both Defenders stay here right look at that she picked it up if that Defender is aware of what's going on she stays there because you've got Caitlyn Clark 40 feet from the basket pinned against the sideline and no help from her team but the defender runs away and look what that did that opened up that lane for Caitlyn Clark to make the pass if the second Defender stays there that pass cannot be made I was being really critical there too I'd say hey Aaliyah there's absolutely no reason for you to dribble that basketball and then this folks this was really really crucial this is when uh Caitlyn Clark's taking over in the uh third quarter she had 10 points in the third here we are we got a tie game tie game here okay once again Caitlyn Clark Boston with a little bit of screen creates her own shot boom and then right away going back here's what we're going to happen what just happened to the replay that looks terrible but you still get the idea and boom and another bucket come on Twitter what are you doing to me but boom just like that in a matter of seconds it goes from a tie game to the Indiana Fever up five points that was a huge huge play for them another one here if this is what I think it is again an example of Caitlyn Clark's ability to get Buckets something everyone said she can't do by the way I like I do I like this look that's why I said 90% of the time with their half court once in a while they do some nice things I like that they've waited Caitlyn comes back to get the ball nice job by Nelissa Smith clear clear out look when Caitlyn Clark gets Square to you like that and she gets ahead of you with those hips right here it's over right here because she does a great job with her body positioning now she's got the defender on her hip and you can forget about it you're not going to get in front of her so she is going to be able to get off a shot that's why she takes it like that leans across trying to draw the foul Defender gets out of the way which was smart bucket got a couple others for you again now here we go with I think this is it yeah this is come on stop that this is great ball movement but I'm going to tell you the problem I have with it come on I don't want okay right here is this again this is completely dependent on on Caitlyn Clark's ability to create something on her own great pump fake drive to the basket great pass to Boston kick out Erica wheeler and drill it fantastic ball movement coming from Individual playmaking not that hey that's what you want from Caitlyn Clark but there's there's no there doesn't seem to be a set offense with a lot of movement that is creating open opportunities for their players I got two more I want to go through for you we're going to show this just because it's really good here we go we're gonna great defense by Kelce by the way pick up by Clark she sees she's got an opportunity look that blows right by two players great pass and an and one I'm not even going to say that you know when you're there you should be shooting this you should be shooting this Caitlin but you made another highlight real play so I'm going to let that go and then finally because this is something we have not seen a lot lately and it's really really good if this is what I think it is yeah so Boston's going to come out get it back to CL and then look they're gonna Blitz and here we go folks and this is why it's important to have players that can shoot from the outside with the type of offense they can run Katie Lou and dtis can both shoot from distance they can both shoot the three you've got three players now she's slightly inside the paint but they're all on the opposite side of Boston so as soon as two players go to Caitlyn Clark well forget it folks I mean boom bucket easy easy bucket but look I don't know it was a weird game I I'm pumped that they won I thought they did some really good things I thought there were some current uh concerning things in there as well and overall it just seemed like one of those grinded out games even with the relatively high score it seemed to like a grinded out game but obviously that is a huge huge win for them they've got I just completely blanked on who they are playing on Friday so let's check it out if you want to hang out for like a second and see I completely I want to say Minnesota is that right yes Minnesota on Friday so that's going to be a big one obviously we've got Minnesota in third place or Connecticut has the tie break okay so yeah they both have the same record I know a lot of people would rather see the Indiana Fever play Connecticut than the links they think they match up better but we shall see I'm gonna leave it there um hopefully you got a little something out of it I don't know maybe you feel the same way I do I I I feel like maybe I haven't given you a lot of value and it just seemed like it was just one of those games where it was like it didn't seem like a whole lot was going on he had some nice plays here and there but it just I don't know it had a weird feel to it but you're going to have have those in the season that's why I say you have to look at it ultimately is they won this type of game and they're learning to close out close games at the end which is really really important and that is even more so for younger teams because they don't have that experience of doing so at this level but
