THE BRIDGE FIRE, THE BIGGEST, EXPLODED IN SIZE OVERNIGHT, TO MORE THAN 49,000 ACRES, PROMPTING MANDATORY EVACUATIONS. CREWS WORKED TO RESCUE PEOPLE WHO COULD NOT ESCAPE THE FLAMES. I TALKED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT WERE SURPRISED AS WELL. AND AS WE WERE DRIVING AROUND THE VALLEY, IT WAS WEIRD TO LOOK AT THE HORIZON AND NOT SEE SOUTH MOUNTAIN AND NOT SEE THE SUPERSTITIONS. THE VALLEY SKYLINE WAS MUTED AND UNRECOGNIZABLE TODAY >> I DID NOTICE IT LIKE ON MY WAY WORK THIS MORNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING ALL DAY TODAY, EVEN WHEN I WAS WALKING TO SCHOOL, THE VALLEY SKIES COVERED IN A GRAY HAZE. >> MAYBE SOMETIMES THERE WILL BE SOME SANDSTONE IN THE SUMMER, SMOKE THAT IS BEING DRIFTED OVER THE PHOENIX METRO. >> IT IS FROM WILDFIRES BURNING OVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, MANY SURPRISED TO LEARN THE SMOKE MADE ITS WAY EAST >> OH, IT'S FROM THE SMOKE. OH, OH OKAY. >> THAT'S CRAZY. LITTLE BIT ALARMING. >> THAT'S CRAZY. >> THE AFTERNOON SAW THE WORST OF IT. THE AIR QUALITY INDEX HITTING 145 IN THE WEST VALLEY. UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS. SUN BEAMING THROUGH THE SMOKE MADE THE VISIBILITY TOUGH FOR DRIVERS. THE FACT THAT IT'S IMPACTING NOT ONLY THAT STATE, BUT OUR STATE AS WELL. >> IT'S VERY UNFORTUNATE. >> THE SILVER LINING A HAZY SKY MAKES FOR A GLOWING SUNSET NOW THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TELLS ME THEY EXPECT THE HAZY SKIES ACROSS THE VALLEY INTO THE WEEKEND. BUT THEY SAY THAT THAT COULD CHANGE BASED OFF OF THESE FIRES. NOW, WE KIND OF WENT ALL OVER TODAY AND DIDN'T FIND AS MANY PEOPLE OUT AND ABOUT AS YOU SEE. I CAN'T SAY EXACTLY THAT. THAT'S BECAUSE
