what's up everybody welcome back to the next podcast here on the sports talk with Hawk Channel welcome in I apologize this podcast is being recorded Thursday morning I know that I did not get the Wednesday night podcast out it's actually going out right after after I get done recording this um so I apologize on the last one being a day late this one comes out on Friday night so heading into a wonderful weekend hopefully your Friday was good and hopefully you've got something going on on Friday night to hang out party relax and enjoy the weekend that is coming ahead tonight we are going to close out the NFC North with the Bears and the Packers now the last podcast as you will see I was able to uh shorten it down a little bit and the uh training camp uh depth chart episodes are exactly where I was hoping they would be so as far as everything for the channel the length of the videos I like where everything is at right now thank you to each and every one of you that are listening the uh the listening the views have been um actually very good and I appreciate that thank you thank you so much to all those who are listening I appreciate it very deeply and hopefully you can hang out for the whole season and we will see how this plays out so the opening coin flip what do we got for the opening today well obviously Thursday night is Hall of Fame game and I want to just open up with the simple reality of the Hall of Fame there are a lot of players that were good and not great the Hall of Fame to me and this is my view 100% my view is designed for the exceptional Dion Sanders Randy Moss Calvin Johnson Lawrence Taylor reie white ran eracer red Ray Lewis obviously the quarterbacks are there but I want to focus on everybody else when you get into debates about Hall of Fame quarterbacks it seems to be one of those things where it just depends on if you like the guy or if you didn't best example I can give you Eli Manning legitimately a 500 quarterback in his career 500 average nothing special average not exceptional average two Super Bowl wins that's exceptional one of them stopping an undefeated season from happening but outside of those Seasons not much if you remember they were a wild card team the year they won the Super Bowl over the Patriots so quarterbacks it's more or less of whether you like them whether you don't I myself based off of that criteria don't don't believe that Eli Manning should be in the Hall of Fame I don't believe he's a Hall of Fame quarterback but what about the other players I want to take you back because I've been watching some of the older games they're available on YouTube and I download them and watch them at um while I'm able to do stuff and um at work and stuff I went back and I watched the 2002 AFC Championship game between the Raiders and the Titans that Raiders team Rich ganet you forget how good he was Charlie Garner just decent not special just a decent running back Jerry Rice obvious Hall of Famer Tim Brown and an offense that was just together and then you look and I went and I watched the Colts vers Jets 09 AFC champ chionship game that Jets team to me should have won a Super Bowl I have never seen a defense like those two years 09 and 10 now 10 they beat the Colts they should have been in the Super Bowl they had one glaring weakness quarterback which is why quarterbacks get to the Hall of Fame all the time because without one you can't get there fair enough but what about all the defensive backs tyw no question what about all those guys that stats wise are like the average quarterbacks but don't get looked at the hall of fame is one of those when you get in and you're not a quarterback it is really really special offensive linemen don't get recognized very often so when offensive lineman make the Hall of Fame it's a big B deal and it should be defensive tackles constantly eating up blocks the number of tackles is always low but they're disruptive Aaron Donald probably one of the most disruptive guys that played defensive tackle sap I don't even I don't even think sap compares to Donald Donald was amazing he's a first ballot Hall of Famer because he was exceptional in him by himself his skill was exceptional so as we come and as Hol of Fame weekend is closing here these guys are getting something if you're not a quarterback these guys understand the magnitude of what they're receiving they're being called exceptional people noticed them enough to put them on a ballot for the Hall of Fame they were important enough to the game to put them in the Hall of Fame so congratulations to each and every one of the inductees of the 2024 Hall of Fame class all right let's jump into it we did the Lions and Vikings which I know you haven't listened to yet but the Lions and Vikings were the last podcast and this one we've got the Bears and the Packers and we're going to start with the lesser of the two yes I still believe they're the lesser of the two Maddie bro is the coach sorry deal with it I'll get into that rant probably in the next coin flip I've got a rant on coaches and I yeah I got something that's sitting there and it'll probably be the next coin flip but without further Ado let's rock and roll here we got the Chicago Bears chai Town bears looking to do something useful for the first time in a really long time all right they quarterbacks they actually have four they got Caleb Williams Tyson Badin Brett rien and Austin Reed they have four quarterbacks on their roster I guess they're planning on some of them being injured I know I haven't made a joke about the rest of the teams that have four but seriously like come on they got four they'll probably go into the season with three that is my guess at running back they got DeAndre Swift big acquisition big acquisition khil Herbert ran Johnson Travis horer the four running backs currently on the depth chart then we have DJ Moore Keenan Allen Rome adun listen when Keenan Allen gets hurt watch adun that guy could put Keenan Allen in the slot quickly he could put Keenan Allen on the sidelines quickly Keenan Allen is older he does have a history with injuries watch it also watch for if DJ Moore goes out adun could be there but nonetheless so that's the starting three then you've got the backups to them now this is where it's going to get interesting if in injuries end up playing a factor at the receiver position especially if Moore and Allen go out just the reality both of them have ankle issues and knee issues so you've got um velis Jones Jr Colin Johnson you've got DeAndre Carter you've got Tyler Scott you got Dante Pettis you got some guys behind that you hope can make some spot plays you're not going to be asking these guys to do a ton but you're hoping they can come in fill in and do some spot plays now the tight end I like the tight ends I'm a thinking they're going to be running a lot of two tight end sets even out of the gun and here's why Cole KT Gerald Everett Mercedes Lewis Steven Carlson those are your four tight ends currently sitting on the depth chart Everett can be a starter Lewis is older I don't think he could be a starter he could be a solid number two so the tight ends for the Chicago Bears I believe are very very well set up and I think it does open up the opportunity to bring a lot of two tight end sets out of the shotgun all right the big question mark the question mark that everybody has circled the offensive line for the Chicago Bears can they protect Caleb Williams rton Jones back up Larry broom then you've got uh Tevin Jenkins Jay Tyre Carter backing him up Ryan Bates is your center with Mr Coleman Shelton as the backup Nate Davis as the Right Guard he's currently injured Matt prior as the backup there Darnell Wright is your right tackle with Jake Kum as the backup there now I Nate Davis I think is a big one that Right Guard spot Matt prior was on the Colts last year I'll tell you this he's uh he's one tick below serviceable and what I mean by that is really simply this he can play his Blitz pickup isn't great and in a Right Guard scenario next to a second-year player in right and that's the throwing side of Kaleb Williams that's coming in his face to me Nate Davis really needs to be healthy all year he's a very solid guard and I think he is going to be key if they want to be able to do anything they can't have the backup be the Right Guard all the time and then obviously the rest of them have to stay healthy too so my glaring weakness on the offense right now legitimately is the offensive line and it's the health of the offensive line they are young they're going to need time they will need time give it to them let them Jael for four weeks give them time to be able to mesh in an ingame real real time situation okay they're not going to be perfect week one or week two give him a few games to get this ironed out all right the defense is a 43 defense is what eus likes to run it's what they do run it's a Chicago Bears style defense he does like running bigger Marcus sweat the big transaction addition from Washington Andrew Billings Jon Dexter senior and Demarcus Walker are your front four the backups are Dominique Robinson Zack Pickins Ryan cart and Jacob Martin honestly they're not that deep they do have players but not really skill Jacob Martin is a uh pass rushing specialist I guess you would call it so he can probably or he will probably come in on third Downs to rush that is my guess uh but the front line really it's the front four and those four they're they're going to be needed because the backups don't have a lot there to offer your linebackers TJ Edwards train Edmunds Jack sandborn solid solid linebacking crew TJ Edwards TR traine Edmonds Jack sandbourne is more like uh he's just the consistent guy he's the guy there there's no reason to replace him unless you got an extremely high talented guy sorn is a smart linebacker not the fastest not the biggest just smart and in this style of Defense that's kind of required so all right the backups there Noah Su you got Micah Bakersville and then you got Aman really really really really really long last name of which I'm not going to try to butcher because it will I will butcher it all right the secondary Jaylen Johnson backing him up Jaylen Jones okay then you got your safety now this is where I think I think the Bears actually have some good depth in the secondary you got dcoin brisker backing him up Elijah Hicks you got Kevin byard at free safety backing him up Jonathan Owens then you got Tyreek Stevenson the other corner with Terrell Smith backing him up and you got Kyler Gordon with Greg strowman Jr backing him up as the nickel I think the bear secondary is actually pretty good I think their linebacking core is solid and I think the starting front four is pretty good defensively I'll tell you this the Bears don't look bad defensively they don't I think injuries is the only thing that really stops this defense from moving forward and making a big push I think injuries is the only thing now can the Bears win a ton of games while we're waiting for the offensive line to click are you going to go one and three 0 and four 2 and two that's the question that will be the question all right so that's the Chicago Bears the kicker Kyrie Santos the punter Tory Taylor they also have cores Watson as a backup punter still sitting on the roster as well so there's the Chicago Bears now we're going to look at the Green Bay Packers argu arguably one of the biggest turnarounds after Thanksgiving there was in the NFL last year and the team I believe they didn't get worse necessarily I think they leveled off in a couple positions I don't think they're as solid in some and I'll show you that here as we go through so starting out quarterbacks Jordan Love Sean Clifford Michael Pratt Jacob een running backs Josh Jacobs no more Aaron Jones why I don't know but Josh Jacobs marshan Lloyd is currently second on the depth chart in front of AJ Dylan the rookie I doubt that stays but maybe it does Marshon Lloyd AJ Dylan and then you have Emanuel Wilson sitting as the fourth string as of right now Christian Watson Romeo dos Jaylen Reed those are your three main receivers then you have Wicks Bo Melton Malik Heath backing them up this is a deep receiver core it is six deep I like Wicks I like Heath and I think Melton could easily turn out to be a very serviceable receiver your tight ends on this team Luke Musgrave really came big on the scene last year Tucker craft Ben Sims and Tyler Davis all right now this is going to be where it gets a little bit interesting and why I say that is simply this we are used to one person being at left tackle for these Green Bay Packers David bakari he is not on this team anymore this offensive line is not overly deep right now either as far as the dep chart's concerned they don't have a bunch of positions for deep they got a couple where they're only too deep so they don't have a ton of options left tackle Rasheed Walker Jordan Morgan backing him up and Andre Dillard backing him up uh elen Jenkins is your left guard with Royce Newman backing him up Josh Meyers is your center with Peter Bowden backing him up your Right Guard is Shan Ryan with Jacob monk backing him up and your right tackle is Zack Tom with Luke tamuda backing him up the question mark on the Packers is very simply the offensive line if they hold up there's plenty of potential now let's look at this defense because the defense got I think the defense is where it's going to change a little bit they did get better and I like what they've got so your front four Preston Smith Devonte Wyatt Kenny Clark rwn Gary you've got Luke vaness Carl Brooks TJ Slayton Kings Kings Lee anby anag aha there we go agag as the backup to the front line then you get to the linebackers Quay Walker Christian young edrian Cooper Eric Wilson then you've got Isaiah McDuffy and Tyron Hopper as his backup your Corners are Jer Alexander with y Ballentine backing him up your strong safety is Javon Bullard with Evan Williams your free safety is Xavier mckenny with Anthony Johnson Jr backing him up your right corner is currently Eric Stokes with Carrington Valentine backing him up your Nickelback kaon Nixon with Kalin King has the backup there the front seven for the Green Bay Packers that front seven is scary that front seven is absolutely scary they will control and dictate most of the games now the secondary I have a concern with jir Alexander I have a conern with Jer Alexander they were looking to trade him they were looking to unload him his Gaff in Carolina was let's just be honest his Gaff in Carolina was horrible he didn't even know what he was doing and Matt lefur was very gracious in how he handled it the truth be told they could have been a lot a lot worse for jier you almost lost your your team an entire possession a guaranteed possession you only get one guaranteed possession either you get the kickoff in the first half or you get the kickoff in the second half the ref saved his poor butt so I don't know I'm not sure where he's at skill-wise now either I'm not sure rashu Douglas took a lot of pressure off of jier Ru Douglas gets traded to Buffalo he now has his shot there in Buffalo so truly the secondary is the only thing that really bothers me now your kicker Andres Carlson they also have Greg Joseph sitting on the roster as well right now and then Daniel wheen or uh whan is their punter listen I think this team is good I definitely think this team is a 500 team it's a little bit better than that and I think they make the playoffs I think it's a wildcard playoff team the offensive line I truly believe is the main Achilles heel I'd say really the secondary isn't much of an Achilles heel because they're back in Bard and mcken are really strong but I'd say the corners are probably their next one they're great at the skill positions great at the skill positions so corner and offensive line I believe will be the struggle this year for the Green Bay Packers if they drop down it's going to be because of one of those two positions all right look at the time here yep looking good all right so what do we got for the final thought you know what instead of waiting till the coin flip we're going to do it so here's my thought the final thought here NFL defensive coaches NFL offensive coaches in the game that I watched the 09 AFC Championship Game Jim Nance and Phil Sims brought up a point that I think is not acknowledged Enough Tom Brady had multiple offensive coordinators now Charlie Weiss left to go be the coach somewhere else and then didn't come back and end up at Notre Dame Josh McDaniels let's just be honest Brady and McDaniels work really well together pyton Manning had Tom Moore for a long time I believe if I remember correctly it was only his final year that Clyde Christensen took over there is something in this Howard mud was always the offensive line coach for pton Manning's ten year with the Indianapolis Colts Tom Moore was his offensive coordinator for all but one year that's priceless you look at all of these offensive coordinators that are getting fired they're not being given the opportunity to create something winning teams change up the coordinators Matt eberl is given an ultimatum this is your last year you better do what you need to do so he fires every body brings in a new staff because his neck's on the line the problem is that staff has no guarantee to be there if and when ebra flu gets fired at the end of this year Tom Mo was with Jim MOA senior so is how mud Tony duny kept him very very rarely do you see coaches keeping many people from the previous quote unquote regime even if they've been there one year two years whatever it may be Dennis Allen down in New Orleans Robert Salah with the Jets Doug Peterson with the Jaguars you have this one this one may may be true may not be um Todd bulls with the Buccaneers you have well shoot I'll throw Nick serani in there too each one of these guys has not had the success as a head coach that you would technically want we all know we want more all the time it's the curse of being an American we have the ability to always want more Robert Salah I believe is going to get fired after this season and he will be hired as a defensive coordinator and just like many defensive head coaches before him will create a defense that cannot be stopped Nick serani was better as an offensive coordinator Matt eberl also falls into this Shane styken potentially there are and there is and always will be an aspect of this is your job just do it this is your job just do that I highly respect Ben Johnson the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions because he's not making that head coach jump he's is not getting tempted by the fact that you can be the top guy remember with great power comes greater responsibility as the offensive coordinator you have your job offense as head coach you have offense and defense and special teams and scouting and and and it's not always greener at the top the top gets hit with the sun first the rain first and then trickles down some of these coaches you will see they will get fired they'll get hired as a defensive coordinator or offensive coordinator and all of a sudden their offense or their defense will be top 10 top five in the league and you'll look and be like why couldn't they do that as a head coach and the answer is simply this they didn't get to focus on just what they do because as a head coach you can't look for Robert solid to get hired look for Dennis Allen to get hired as a defensive coordinator Matt eberl look for them to get hired as defensive coordinators and each one of their defenses potentially as long as they've got the players obviously but either way if they don't have the most skilled look for them to be the scrappiest they'll be 10th 11th 12th in the NFL they'll be but they'll be in the top half they'll be in the top 16 no doubt about it sometimes it's better to just stick with what you really know and not try for something that you kind of know it's a great lesson for life too all right guys that is going to bring this episode to a close thank you so much for listening make sure to hit
