JUST A COUPLE MINUTES. >> OUR TOP STORY THIS HOUR. HUNDREDS WILL PACK DOWNTOWN CHICAGO AND LITTLE VILLAGE AS MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE. CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE. THIS COMES AFTER A NIGHT OF ROLLING STREET CLOSURES DOWNTOWN. JUDY IS DOWNTOWN WITH MORE DETAILS. THEY JUDY. >> JUDY WANG: GOOD MORNING. DOWNTOWN STREETS ARE BACK OPEN NOW THAT PEOPLE WHO WERE OUT CELEBRATING OF GONE HOME PERHAPS TO GET A FEW HOURS ASLEEP BEFORE THIS AFTERNOON'S MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE IN LITTLE VILLAGE. WE ARE AT WACKER IN MICHIGAN, CONSIDERED A HOTSPOT OVERNIGHT AND BECAUSE OF THE CROWDS, THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT HAD TO RESTRICT ACCESS TO DOWNTOWN DUE TO CARAVANS. FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT NIGHT. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE PARTIED ON MICHIGAN AVENUE PROMPTING LMC TO IMPLEMENT STREET CLOSURES AND ALERT WENT OUT AT ABOUT 10 LAST NIGHT CITY PLUS SERVED AS BARRICADES. CTA BUSES WERE REROUTED FROM ROOSEVELT TO WACKER EXPRESSWAY RAMPS WERE CLOSED. THE EISENHOWER, MANY PEOPLE STOP THEIR CARS AND CELEBRATED UNABLE TO REACH DOWNTOWN. THESE CARAVANS HAVE CAUSED TRAFFIC GRIDLOCK THAT HAVE LASTED HOURS IN THE PAST FRIDAY NIGHT NIGHT. 2 MEN WERE SHOT NEAR WACKER AND MICHIGAN, BUT POLICE HAVE NOT CONFIRMED WHETHER THE VICTIMS WERE INDEED PART OF THE CELEBRATION. FIREWORKS WERE SET OFF NEAR MONROE AND OFFICERS DID TAKE AWAY WOODEN FLAG POLLS FROM SOME REVELERS WITH A GOING ON IN GRANT PARK A SANCTIONED EVENT RETURNING DOWNTOWN. MANY COMMUNITY LEADERS HOPED TO CURB CARAVANS. >> I THINK IT WAS KIND OF SCARY. IT WAS THEY WERE DRIVING ERRATIC. IT WAS A LOT OF TRAFFIC AND NO ONE SEEMED TO CARE ABOUT THE RULES OF THE ITSELF. I WOULD NOT HAVE WANTED TO LIKE HAVE BEEN WALKING I WAS GLAD THAT I WAS IN A VEHICLE AND THAT WE'RE ABLE TO LIKE IT ON EXPRESSWAY A LITTLE WEST TO COME BACK AGAIN. >> JUDY WANG: A CHICAGO POLICE SPOKESPERSON THIS MORNING TO NOT HAVE ANY ARREST NUMBERS FROM THE WEEKEND.
