Rings of Power | Charlie Vickers On 'Lord Of The Rings' Seasons Being Compared: "I Don't Care"

[Music] how was it filming in the UK this time it was great it was great um it was it was amazing actually why did you laugh that because I was going to do a whole story about him falling asleep I'm not nervous I'm very excited about uh season 2 as I was about season one but this particularly because of the story that the two of us have to tell what was something that you enjoyed yes I'm just saying yes to that question hi we're talking lot of the Rings rings of power season 2 joining us is the Stella starcast a very warm welcome to NDTV thank you so we'll start as a warmup we'll start with some puns why did Sauron start a fashion line [Music] um to wear the one ring your cloes because he always rings in the trends okay second one yeah I I I promise it's a it's a better one okay yeah what's sauron's favorite kind of music um this is easy death metal heavy metal yeah sure death metal also works there's heavy metal in this season you know there is there is there is actually the troll song damrod Sorry of course it looks absolutely intense as well we'll start with you Charlie your character of course has a lot of Menace and still at the same time it has a lot of Charisma as well a lot of people are wondering how are you cracking that kind of balance uh I think it's it all has to come from an internal drive to achieve something right and I think the the other I don't really think about how things are going to be perceived it's more just like I was just trying to get Kell bmbo to make me some rings so everything the way he presents and all of that kind of stuff is um for Kell brimo in the same way that there's scenes with Adar in the first couple and that's all kind of like Mind Games does he really know that I'm Sauron I just kind of like play the scenes and everything else character like these they usually I mean evoke negative kind of emotions but yours is also I mean people are impressed with the kind of charm that you're portraying so that's good have you put any personal trait of yours uh there's no personal trait no I can't really uh that'll be too dark of a personal trait exactly it would be I don't think I can I'm allowed to say I'd probably get arrested if I said yes how about you could you add any personal trait of yours to to add life to your character yeah always I think I try and whatever role I'm playing I always draw on possibly similarities of myself and and the character I'm playing so yeah I will always uh think about things and how I might approach it or the other way around you know you inevitably because you're the person playing the role right there's going to be elements of yourself in there Charles also um you know cies are often judged they're compared amongst the seasons uh does that worry you are you nervous about it or or you think that's how it is supposed to be I'm not nervous I'm very excited about uh season 2 as I was about season one but this particularly because of the story that the two of us have to tell we had a wonderful time shooting it and um and I'm very looking forward to seeing how how people enjoy it does that make you worry that you know usually seasons are often compared amongst each other only and not really I mean it kind of gets to the point where you don't really like care to be as in like we care deeply about the work but we and and don't care about the outcome it's kind of like it's a it's it's about the process and it's and it's like particularly as an actor your job is cut to action and the process of M the the the time the work around making it and then you kind of Let It Go and it becomes what it becomes um and of course we listen to feedback from Friends colleagues family um but in terms of The Wider World it it you kind of have to let relinquish any kind of uh s um sense of judgment or anything like that is it true that when you audition for this you didn't know which role were you auditioning for yeah no idea it just I just knew I was auditioning for a role in Lord of the Rings as I think most people in the show yeah I mean but even that it took a while to figure out what exactly what the show was there was a certain amount of secrecy but over the title of the show alone the roles we were playing and any special exercise Workshop you guys did to develop that kind of chemistry that we see on screen I think we did we just kind of it was our United desire to tell this story that kind of you know but ignited our excitement for this but nothing off camera no kind of activity that you guys oh just spending time together off camera and laughing a lot and you know just hanging out really yeah I'm not really one for doing like acting exercises I think I'm pretty not the acting exercises but like were you were you hanging out together we by the time we started filming we'd known each other for years because the show's been on for so long so like we kind of already were really good friends and then just kept started working together we kind of the connection grew even more and it kind of um happened very organically yeah we didn't have to work at it which I think is why it felt so good yeah I think that's absolutely right any memorable memory that will stay with you from set if not off camera I mean char falling over on his robe Charlie falling asleep offet and then Char Char Charlie Edwards actually when he's fallen asleep onet onset yeah I've seen you fall asleep in one of those chairs God knows how but looking very grumpy how was it filming in the UK this time it was great it was great um it was it was amazing actually why did you laugh on that because I was going to do a whole story about him falling asleep and you were just just like enough of that you don't mind heing it pleas go no that's fine you're interviewing us really no it's been awesome filming in England it's been um it is tol it's what T tolken Middle Earth and we loved New Zealand and New Zealand has kind of been Middle Earth in the Contemporary world right but I think tlan was inspired by England so it's it's come home in that way and um we've had a beautiful time right yeah I mean wherever wherever you're shooting the work you do in the Studio or whatever is is obviously the same but the our circumstances in New Zealand informed um us as a company to to to bond very closely together we were there for a long time under difficult circumstan shooting during the pandemic then yeah that's what I mean it was it was it was hard it was difficult times in the end any special message for your fans in India just season two is going to be a real roller coaster in terms of um because we've season one is World World building character introduction all of which is very necessary but now we can really start telling those those oh uh my message is one of thank you so much for watching it means a lot to all of us like genuinely like we um know how much the show is loved in India and it's um yeah it's Charlie was very fortunate to visit a couple of years ago and I look forward to visiting again and yeah mean all your support means a lot and we hope you enjoy the second season exactly which was your favorite City when you went well we went to Mumbai and that was it that was our trip we had the most wonderful time the most it was the best stop on the whole tour could you try any local food uh we banquet didn't you we had a banquet at the Taj the Gateway of India and uh and that was a real treat the best stop on the tour and these guys missed missed is something that you enjoyed W yes I'm just
