international pop star extraordinaire back from Glaston re but more of that in a bit Lads first of all before we get into the game the opening two League games haven't been amazing after let's put it mildly Dave you've obviously been to both I have what what have you made of it no absolutely I agree it's stating the bleed and obvious to to use the idiom but actually if you break it down the first game we were the better side in the first half that can be argued it was my opinion at half time bton have got a good squad man they they've got they've got options all over the park in the first 11 and From the Bench as well so to get to that stage was kind of acceptable in my opinion not fantastic but decent able to build on uh with options to change it ourselves I went at every preseason game so I could see it incrementally coming along I like the kids I like what he's been doing with the kids in the preseason games so was looking at that within 15 minutes we've given them two goals particularly the second one with G it was absolutely unforgivable to to the whole thing about the summer and get let's we just had three consecutive relegation fights and we've got to get out of that mentality and this is coming out of the club as it like a prda newspaper this is what you're going to think m kind of Spiel and then to do that after all that it the only way I could personally describe it or or or the most succinct way I can describe it it was dumb it was thoughtless it was it was granted people can switch off in any job but you've literally been training and the mindset part of this particular League that we're playing in it's crucial and so we then go to Tottenham and the goalkeeper does the same thing the first goal I'm not complaining about he took it well it was the top cor he should have saved it to be honest but if if he scor five play that lay on the floor before it was and not just that the 15 passes around our goal and and that's the problem and I was just retreating into it but I'm talking about the actual strike that was a good he took it well I put my hands up to that that happens that particularly down there where we seem to ship goals for fun anyway but the second one it was just a body blow it was just like the mindset snaps at that point now we've got to climb Another Mountain at a place where traditionally we do not turn up by the way there's a list as long as you AR where we do not turn up but that was I just thought you AR helping yourselves so we got to last night and they it's a half time and you can hear rumbles in the crowd and he swapped a few players by the way he's given minutes to people who hadn't been in the team to date and that can go either way way so to come out of it um with a ReSound and let's be honest by the end of it they weren't even in it a ReSound and as it turns out over 90 minutes only on the result not in the performance but it isand and win 3-0 at home well I'm taking it at the moment Keith anything to add um well we were at the match last night and we were up the the blon game you know um to me the first game I mean I thought I did feel we were the best the better side in the first half pretty much the same that's the type of discussion we were having at half time but it was kind of typical of when we're not necessarily at our best where we're the masters of our own kind of De downfall because of several things one that the mistakes that we kind of make the fact that we can't keep hold of the ball at times and and when we do get the chances we're not actually taking them you know so I mean lost counted the amount of times where have satday with Dave last season I we've had we should have took our chances in the first half a we're going to we're going to get you know we're not going to we're going to get uh you know backside handed to us in this second half you know we've said that countless times I certainly felt like that a Bright game the spest game I didn't go to but I was at the game there last season I think last season we gave them a game last season we come away from that last season we why was this allow and well we come away from last season think and that was a a loss that kind of felt like a win if if that even possible you know what I mean but um again with the with the Spar game we we we what probably three of those goals we just handed to them you know it's it is silly mistakes whether it's switching off whether it's kind of things not yelling or the the team not being kind of ready or them not being happy about certain things I mean they didn't particularly do themselves any any favors what I mean space we just running through it you know what I mean you know yeah I thought he just L Saturday he L beating the f that's three yeah they didn't look there was not one minute I thought in that game we thought a minute there was a moment we had two maybe three crosses in about 20 minutes and there was a moment what sticks out in me brain I could be wrong and it was it was a ball from McNeil went over the back and Allison come in on the back post and he tried to bring it down and slide if he hits that first time puts his laces through it back across the keeper he might SC score he might not there might be a r but we had three players in the sixy area or two or three players certainly from the penalty spot to the goal you you play percentages and that's crucial though going to grounds like that we are going to go to City Liverpool Man United Chelsea all of them grounds and it will be moments which decided we will not dictate the play in those games so if you do not take those moments I'm not blaming Addison the way he he had an option he decided he already stuck one in the side at one I think you got a point there as well I think I think they were kind of they were kind of L defeated in the first half there I don't think there was the belief there that they could win the game they probably thinking we might be good we can get a draw because if you compare the that the game against Bears this season to the game against Bears last season then but decided to start playing them a game of football at two nothing down come into last night and obviously pressure this week know it's a big week I think for ever absolutely two own games after to win the both of them and obviously they're still as time they called them still 14 hours and a bit you know they're trying to do deals in that which is which is good CU we need it um last night was always going to be tricky because we are we have lost at both opening games and all that but I did I did say yesterday three or 40 I thought we'd be too strong for them yeah as it happened it was but the team I was open Roman Dixon played i w Li think he played them at space give him another go because I think I think he he may well go out on loan by Friday's deadline now because I think Coleman's back and patters will be back in Young's day gner back I think he will I just think he will um and but so I would have played them last night but obviously the other players did play we saw Coleman come back gner come back Lindstrom and J it it was a good test for some players that last night you know obviously it's not Premier League opposition but it was a good test for some of them last night they got some they got some hours you know on the pitch they got some kind of you know you know they got a bit of weight right you know we actually you know we we we we scored some goals so we come away with a good result from a confident point of view but it's good it's obviously going to be very very different against bouth we all know that B I think it was a good task for them last night you know hopefully help stimulate belief and also maybe gives dice some thoughts on some some of the possible options because we were talking about it on the train on the way up here today you know where there's you know we we kind of stuck with one way of playing you know with the D Dominic har Le off front and and and we can't really change that do you know what I mean it's either take them off or put better change for us in 4 by the way but also it's which might not be a bad car Lon but it's also not about car Lon it's actually it's a lack of movement which then gives them an option whoever were playing to have two static Banks of four so I option given that none of our Midfield although the kid from Aston Villa is impressing everybody I've seen every game he's played for everything including all the preseason ups and now and every time I've seen him he's been the best player on the B every single time now that being the case we've got nobody we will come back to the the ind's goal in the moment but it's predictive you can you can on a Tuesday you can say what's likely to happen on a Saturday because we are able to we're predictable in what we our methodology we get in front of them we pass it to the side we look to get down the front we go back we pass it to the side we got and the center forward static so the the two Center halfs are able to just stand within a three Yard Box no one's getting moved around and it we are unable to break the lines last night the kid D turns on a six P skins the kid runs through no one knows where anyone is anymore cuz they're all concentrating on this fell skating through the thing and there you saw the difference but on Saturday would you be surprised if he lines up with the Cory mcneel Harrison and I would not be because of the manager and and his his stubbornness that to me going into it last night was an opportunity for those plays it was good to see BTO getting a full 19 I think yeah just from from a position that he might be asked like cuz the other fell is not you but not just that you need him to be ready when he is if injuries can come at any points you can't have someone just coming saying I'm playing five three minutes here and 8 minutes there that's not enough he's openly said that some of these players aren't ready hasn't he you know has said that and obviously last night's largely about you know giving them some some game time as well against decent opposition you know what I mean and um so would I be surprised I I think he'll probably go with the what he kind of knows puring s me for that cuz he might think if he throws one of them in and it doesn't work to getting slaughtered and he's getting slaughtered because of the Premier season you know I slightly disagree with that cuz I think the fans oh no no I'm not saying he doesn't think like that but I think the fans would rather see El and die I'm going to go and trying things rather than just doing because the the way I look at it the front four you play generally at the core right yeah Dom McNeil and Harrison and the fact he plays Harrison on the right when he's better on the left is beyond but the they them four were our main four last season and the second lowest goal scorers in the league so to then come back this season and go what he did do actually now that you've mentioned that and it's coming to me head what he did do is he did a little bit last night and they ended up on the left wing well at Tottenham granted game had sailed away like the royal Iris by the way by that point however the Royal good it just was random complely Rand not no Let It Go moving on to the next point he actually what he did with reference to what you've just said before the Royal Iris thing was that and D went left and M Neil went into the number 10 rle so no so I don't mind what he's been doing with McNeil lison is after 25 minutes half an hour the two of them swap well for two minutes well no but okay let's just take that specific thought so the Dukey thing every six months what goes by he gets older he's done well for us what we pay for him he scored crucial goals but the time we need to get somebody whoever the center forward is whether it's Dominick alv Lan Betto or anyone committee or who anyone else comes in we need to start get and legs bodies around the center forward because otherwise it's two against one minimum of two against one in every all the time so we are now if you were a better man and none of us three are better men but your second favorite at least second favor you might not even be on the board by the way that's how many times you're going to score from that the point is like I just said to you about the formulaic buildup because of that fact we're too far away from him as guard's proximity you've got to find a way to get people close to him so by A and D on the wing giving him the option of slipping inside and McNeil to slide balls through instead of having to one the one that back or and then perhaps swwa them over after 20 minutes 30 minutes 60 Minutes I don't care yeah yeah opposition the better goal isn't on without McNeil put exactly what thing about even Tim gold there that lindst but the thing about it is he's the two Lads who've come get him used to the level and it's but he is a better player playing off stri so I I'm with you on dor D's been really valuable to us yeah I still believe if everon got a bit off Saudi Arabia by FL he's got big goals but is he every months he's diminishing rains isn't he yeah and we do just the way we play we need something extra I actually think the C's better Fair the back person because he four not not in the second half but in the first 45 minutes if you'd have just dropped someone into the stadium and said these are two teams in the same league yeah or who's in League 2 and who's in the Premier League they look like a premier league side passing it that we looked like we knocked two passes and then we sort of don't know what we're going to do then we were relying D is that no one's moving that's the problem now he's out of position when the two of them because he hasn't got a pass on so he's holding on to it a step too long or two steps too long they take it off and there's all where they used to be standing so that that's what I think we've got to get better at and that's got to come that can only come from the manager and the coaches it can we it's tactics is it exactly we don't have to it just shouldn't be that every ball want to do is a long ball I don't mind long passes and I hate they will attested I hate theying 800 passes to go three I can't stand you're going to build that intrinsically into the system which apparently we are because we've done it for the lastu three years since the manager's been here you've got to give an option to the fell start addressing the problem of the tactics and how we're going to go about we are in the business fundamentally of winning football games in the Premier League mate trophies are fantastic I want to win them it's the same as every other trophy please do not get me wrong on this we are in the business of winning games in the Premier League therefore to do that the first thing you'd have to establish is that you are a member of the Premier League yeah so therefore a set amount of points has to be a given that should be off the table Yeah in order to do that you have got to have offensive options if you look at other team I don't Tottenham are all right they spend crazy amounts of money to be all right yeah they've got like three or four players I don't I don't really I mean they're all right I'm not trying to slag them please don't get me wrong but I look at them and think they're finding weaknesses in RT in our team that a good side would get double the amount of goals against us and that's 6 seven eight we're talking about now that's embarrassing and we can't lay a glove on them and that's the bit I get about the the the defensive thing I will put my hands up to that that's a question for another day the part that we can't lay a glove on them that's the bit what concerns because because other teams who aren't as good as them with the resources what them are identifying the same aspect and sitting right on top of us and saying we'll just keep going for 65 minutes started off when ke comes to you know we started off so with the Brighton game yeah now I was sat there in the Brighton game two n down said to Andy the lad next to me was like big man I no not him but anyway he's big man's in front of me and it was like like I don't really know I with two be really good when at defensively we know when branway comes in this is not not really having a go with Michael done anything wrong when he's in the team the facts will tell you Everton con seeed two more than two goals a game and it isn't always down to him but whatever happens in that isn't as good as when brwi there better players that's just the way brwi better Micha that's just the way it is and and we need to sort right and so we know that defensively we can get tighter and stronger because we we proved it last year it's the offensive bit isn't it cuz they're the bits ever hav't won a game at goodon yeah when the opposition have scored since the Crystal Palace game in Lampard was it's over two years right so that tells me the minute if bman score on Saturday you go well we won't win for years now that doesn't work like that we may well win the game but the facts will tell you just right now nor the one who scores against us yeah don't get me wrong we I I fancy your satday but it'll be tough and it'll be tight but what I'm saying is that's a worry for me that if the opposition go we're in trouble when we're really I don't think we can set up hoping to keep it nil and nicking it one nil and that's I think that's the that's the bit the manager has to find that little bit extra that's what they'll be expecting from us at the weekend and I think you has to go out to say okay this is three points we've got to go and win it that's you got to set up to win the game so what you would you Haven watched and last night yeah would you start him on Saturday possibly yeah yeah it would definitely be probably definitely be within contention like maybe go might replace him or might bring him on at a certain point but yeah you've got to kind of I don't know I mean they're going to be it's kind of we're predictable in the way we play and so they're coming they're going to be coming in KN only play this particular way when these players are on the pitch we nullify that and you got nothing else that's it also lost the main man so no but that's what I meant before one of was s about car do you know what I mean it's like it's there's one we've got one way to air team do you know what I mean and and they know that you know what I mean once that'ss out the out the window it's kind of difficult to for for for us to to to move on from that so unless we kind of stubby get getting to mix it up with something else it's it can become predictable and I is certainly unpredictable and he would bring that X Factor if you will to it I would probably the thing about the season is you go into different parts of the season for example the last three years the last three months of the last three seasons and I've seen every single game we've played in the last three seasons all manway you get to a stage where it gets that it's a knife fight it becomes Cutthroat and you're not just playing the opposition you're playing the other teams around you and their results and the mindset they like the collective mindset between that so there's a stage this is just my opinion before anyone starts giving it out I'm not pontificating I'm just stating this is how a kind of came to terms with it you walk up the tunnel with a mindset in the last three months of a relegation season saying right now we've got a point it's one it's it's one point each before we walk out here and the music play so before we leave here today we do not lose this point we might not win the game but we but we keep hold of what we've got right now that's the first objective we try to win the boxes team KN that that's actually a threat it kind of pushes him back a little bit and makes him a little bit more aware you know what I mean of what might what potentially might happen so would kind of you know it creat space for you that type of thing as well doesn't it that knowledge of threats there you know you you've mentioned that a Bo him uh let's have a look at his numbers just basic numbers from last night 69 suches 85% passing accuracy no goals but I do dispute that one assist H and he had six tackles which I think was the most on the pitch or the most heat M was there as well he has been very impressive and last night to me he was Head and Shoulders above else on the pit he's been every single game I've seen him I saw him first in Island like 20 minutes half an hour you know what right yeah yeah it was simple kept it simple yeah and um particularly off the top of me at Cy but they took us to the cleaners at Cy but he was Head and Shoulders above everything he every time two of them he DBL them off he's strong yeah he can turn passs with both feet he looks to get forward at the first opportunity well I've got don't not denigrating Onana in any way shape or form but some you couldn't apply all of those Criterion to him he took sometimes took the Easy Pass we went to wolves on boxing day last year I think it was a Christmas week and him and Jimmy Garner were just passing to New Year's Day five five five yard passes between them to Stats are through the seil how many touches they had and how many successful passes but they were all on the halfway line that way to each other this kid at least looks in the early days of looking at him he looks to affect the game yeah as regards his team and the results and I've seen him at Preston he was impressive B we look good at Preston it's only Preston but then they in a league ey than the people we played yesterday well he was impressive against Roma he was impressive against R so what you'd say is okay it's incremental steps there's not there's no Potter's magic one where we're going to turn into Holland all of a sudden 1974 but you can see there's a footballer in there so you've got to try and adapt control the Midfield it allows us to say further up the park cuz we're not that terrified of people running behind us cuz we basically controlled the ball for 68 72% of the time the irony of it is though suppose is that if James Garner would have been fit he wouldn't be playing he wouldn't be playing because of the Premier League experience thing but but he has what he's done so cocked that if he'd actually just watched the game he's better than all of the people with with the Premier League experience to date is what I'm saying so that sort of gives that you know that sort of argument a nice for him but it's good cuz what he's done is he's got in he's got in and he's he's put the mark down and he's proven to the maners yeah and hopefully that gets in his head for other players that actually yeah you know if you give him the chance you can you know's he's potentially integral to to that Midfield moving forward you see in it personally you know I as a player you know just from the small things I've seen is potentially integral so what well that might be that might forward you know they looking at Mangal from Leon who cuz D want's another Midfield player um and then you just think well okay that's all right well what will happen and then it R will be in and out but I still overall I think the is our best midfielder still anyway just for what he does yeah but what it might do is sometimes it might mean he play with three actual midfielders instead of the cor and we almost become at times a real 433 where we've got them in a as opposed to one cheating higher up the you got to have the players to be able to play that system you know what I mean basically what said is you know if you prevent people running through you that's why he plays old midfielders and everyone sits deep because we've traditionally been terrified of losing the ball and people just running straight through the middle of us and putting it in the back of the net like Welbeck did the other two week week ago and vanent and day so hypothetically if you had three unnamed midfielders there allowing you that if that was the case and they an effective blanket as it were fire blanket preventing this happening well you could then step up eight yards 10 yards further up thereby giving you the chance to get round the center forward or if a cross from one side the other Winger tries to get into the box to be the extra body or alternatively basy Vel on the other side or just try and rotate around them there's options there so someone's going to have to figure it out but it just seems the problem with Mangal not specifically Mangal but you said it earlier about we we keep buying number 10 well we keep buying Olden midfielders as well yeah it's like you know it it you none of them she to be able to do the job well on did but he didn't like Onana difference do you know what I mean but also he was a sailable that's it so no I no but what I mean is he already decid I didn't like him and he was on the team he was the team I'm not again I'm not I'm just saying for the whole it is true but we did we did have the X Factor if you like we had something a bit different in in and and his goal let's just have a look and that's done some Stills for us for the goal so where we going on this what was the first one was Jake O'Brien a lovely little ball through in what he does really well is if we take it on Defender comes tight him as he receives it and he just gets a little half 10 as he spins him the L goes and then it's about attacking the space rather than just playing a simple ball he attacks and drives at the back four he's heading towards the box there in the next one a little step over we've got mikeno running to the left BTO but if you go back to Stills there as he spins him the one after that one look at B bet his heading now breaking those two Center forwards Center half out there they don't even know what what what post gold is don't you make a run like that it puts them on the go again Ned back up to the edge of the Box do the step over it takes himself One V one and then gets into this three over there now on the edge of the Box he's also free B shot at goal straight away next one n last one and he just passes it in past the keep and it was lovely lovely calm finish lovely bit of individual skill we haven't seen yeah any of that so far so we haven't seen years that's why for me he will be playing on Saturday and it's a case for the manager I can see 92% so here we go let's have a look at his stat it there we go there's a heat M so you see he was popping up in the wide areas 49 suches 92% passing accuracy one go completed 66% of his dribbles and that yeah okay lead to opposition fine but other people wen't doing it so that that you can only beat who's influence you by the way so that's the kids this is first start first goal positive no problem you can l in the type of player what he is he will invariably lose a third of of of the um the the attempt he makes will be unsuccessful well that means inest that and that means two might be successful well that's exactly what we're paying them the money for we've all got it I think all of our players and we saw this saw Betto in a minute we saw this with Betto later on where it's just playing the right ball mcneel as well mcneel had one where he hit it was the keeper sa first half no second half he's throw he throve forward it and the keeper pushed it there was a pass a couple of minutes later he got the same position and Harrison armstr was near the end he made a run and he just held on to it to L bet twice he had mcneel on on one he should have just played it in and he was in and he held on and lad him it's those moments where the better players do just lay that off and you're on goal and it's I think they the moments and sometimes I sometimes wonder if we do enough work on a training ground on in them moments I think we do shape and I think we do defensively but they're the key areas we were screaming that last night you don't pass pass it now just do the simple ball just do that simple ball and think now he going to keep all of it and and he even gets it taken off of them more is shooting it bounces off the player and stuff but I think that is something that needs training it is on the training ground where you deal with that release that ball now you know what he might shoot it might be bound he might get it me but he's he's after the goal isn't he cuz he wants to affect his stats and he's desperate for the goal you can see that you know but but I'm I'm glad he got a goal last night better you know what I mean because any anything like that just build helps build his confidence you know and he does you know some of his positioning is quite good you know what I mean I don't think he's a bad player I just think he needs time he needs time don't he think as a sense of forward it's like I mon I like analyze my Strikers all the more than any other position yeah cuz that's where I played all of that stuff and do with Mead you know on about control and all that betto's got none of that he's raw it bmps he can trap a ball further than most competitive football but in that kid if you're saying Roman Dixon might go out on loan which right now looking at our fullbacks I would be low to do honest to God because one injury puts us right be back behind the eightball so play James got of yeah no he will won't he if you're saying what would I do be different but that kid got Pace to B he's got a l listen he's an appen is what he is B to all intents and purposes but the both of them you'd look at it how was a great one for it put them around the squad let them learn but I think think he climatize games to it but you've got to expose them to competitive football so if GR they be sending them out does League 2 really help him or will will 10 8 Minute it start in the Premier League cameos up till New Year will that be better for his moment is borit it's everything we have got Aston Villa Way a ground where traditionally like Tottenham we do not turn up the Cup game last year accept them um however they had a good side particularly at home they're a good side and he have Louise has gone but the still a good side but he was the best player I saw last side last year on the and any opposition to him he absolutely ran the game three times I watched him but if we keep it in the moment it allows you then to um shlug off defeats against teams who were better than you and focus on the more um evenly matched fix defeat sat we never had a goal well the secret to that then is back to how we started this whole conversation and being tactically flexible stubborn is not going to cut it it's not going to cut it cuz You' already got you figured out like I said at the start they know on the Tuesday what we're going to do on the Saturday and that's not enough in this league cuz you don't have to be Einstein to be able to overcome that sort of tactical limitation no you need to be able to think outside the box it may not be successful and it might need working on a few times but you've at least got to give it a goal new music we've played loads of festivals played Glon B Lei stage this year which went amazing amazingly well you know a lot but than what we kind of thought it was nice to be asked to do so a gig like that you know so we've we've had lots of festivals we've signed as a consequence of the music we releasing last year we've had a lot of interest from record labels one and we've signed a deal recently to Modern Sky records which is a local label lot of chines label but they're based in Liverpool and um we we've just we're going to be doing two albums with them by the look of it um we've kind of finished the the the next album which will be out early part of next year and we got a few more gigs for the rest of the year what next gig we played in BO week with red R Club as special guest of red R Club so we've just had lots of interesting stuff going on really when you kind of think of where we are we are we are and next gig coming up for us locally as we haven't we haven't played Lio for about 10 years I think you know when I under our own steam um and we've got a a special gig that we're doing in the uh Liverpool Arts Club on the 2nd of September which is on sale now think it's no Sor second of November not good telling you it is the second of November yeah second of November we're playing there and then kind of really looking forward to that because obviously that will be you know uh playing playing Liverpool again you know I mean to our own crowd which is which is always which is always eventful I know he a lot of fun so he's ready for Everton's Wembley trip record again then I think it's only right and it you last you know 95 you done the record we won the cup I think if we get back there again I think it's only correct that you should do that was um yeah that was a lot of fun there we saw Joel Parkinson didn't I saw Joel Parkinson yeah I said you want to do a cus between but um you know yeah doing that record was was kind of interesting you know um I mean I didn't intend to sing that record Being it was just in the studio at the time and and the producer had the team in the in the booth getting different people to sing and it was evident that not that I'm but that I'm a great still playing but the producer was like you know any you know he was going to go in and sing this so I I went in and and said i' had a bevy at that point give it to me I'll do so I went in and did it and and there you go that's kind of History so uh yeah I Su I sung that that song and obviously it was based upon um the original Al G now which P said had been kindly enough to allow the changing of the lyrics so could use that you know cuz cuz you can't just kind of go and cover a song like that and change the lyrics in the way that that Evon did without the permission of the songwriters and Peter was kind of enough on advice from his father um he was a lifelong Liverpool fan basically said to P if you don't let them use it you consider them what the song's about you're a hypocrite you know and so you know that that's admirable you know really what they done he's had stick ever since for do it like and so but um but you know yeah but yeah we've got like a lot going on this year and I just think from a I don't know it's just nice from a band perspective the shock when Oasis asked you to support them I don't think we'll be getting that support again another know but you know good luck to anyone that's say I'm going to be supporting Oasis you know what I mean and I'm sure sure a lot of people are going to enjoy them gigs because there's been a lot of people waiting for that for a long long long time but I don't think we'd be getting us to do that to do that we did get us by the stor loses stores inally so let's not brilliant great to see you down there yeah yeah I mean it's just nice considering that you know after all of this time that I actually kind of think that with writing the type of music at the moment we're just enjoying writing the music at the moment and the response that we're getting to the new music is is been beyond what we thought it was it was going to be so in a way that's what's really nice about it and and the fact there's no pressure on anyone to do it people leave a listen to it all you want and we're not really that last if you don't you know to be honest no disrespect to anyone but we're just
