all right we'll open up for questions for Sydney JJ and Jord uh so start with the the attorneys JJ Jordan this summer what were the goals would you focus on um I think we focused on just trying to jail with the new girls and then just trying to move on with our team figure out what we can do coming up this season anything particular individually you thought you wanted to get better at uh personally like um me I say my three-point shooter not the dribble off the cash get them out release quicker should Jordan same thing uh for me well like JJ said this uh summer we going to just work on getting our chemistry back with you know the our new teammates and you know finding out what everybody likes to do you know and obviously working on our defense identity still and then I would like to get better at um going both ways efficiently and my main range shop JJ Jordan um has the trajectory of your program you think changed now since the Iowa game you think people are looking at you maybe a little bit differently than they were before that game I think everybody's looking at us like we're my bad I think everybody's looking at us like we don't care like we're going to go out there and play whoever regardless of the name on their backs um I think we definitely got a lot more odd on us after that game and obviously I think for like ourselves like our team we got like a lot of confidence from that game uh showing that like we can play with anybody and we're not scared to play against anybody so yeah you watch the game City on TV I don't watch basketball as much as I should so I heard about it they very good in the highlight film that they showed me so so City your transition comfortable I mean what was the thought process in the transfer oh why did I transfer yeah and why West Virginia ultimately after that um I just wasn't a good fit for me anymore uh what I wanted to do was very different from how they wanted to use me so I just wanted to be happy where was uh West Virginia came into the picture and uh after my visit I really jelled with the girls and that made the transition a lot easier it's been seamless personally like I really like them they seem to really like me you know so it's been it's been a good time just the little bit we saw today seems like a lot of parts of your game are similar to theirs do you see that fitting in together do you see a good rotation with the three of y'all how how do you think that may work out I definitely think uh three of us who play really well together what was the disconnect there what did you feel like you could be doing there that you weren't that you needed to make the change um a lot of it I'm not really willing to speak on okay in JJ just with the addition of Sydney and some of the other girls who came into the program in the offseason do you feel like this team is better now than where you all left at the end of the year last year um I wouldn't say we're better at the end of the day we're still new so probably by the end of the season I'll probably give us that this season we're probably gonna be better than last season yeah like you know JJ said uh right now we still working through the Kinks and stuff but by the end of the season I think this team will be better than a last year's team what are the Kings uh obviously like the new people they got like five or six plays thrown at them like in one practice so they can't like remember them as well so then that like throws off like execution and stuff like that but then once they get the plays and stuff then I think be fine how much of this trip now will kind of play towards you know building chemistry and and and uh you know kind of jelling with the new guys yeah I think this trip you know will help a lot considering that we'll be playing another team that doesn't know our offense like at JJ call out something I know where she going to pass it so uh yeah the trip will definitely help and then like it's a live game so it's no stopping and correcting it we just got to you know learn on the flow so I think that'll help us a lot Sy can you play the three at all like where how will you guys M when you three are on the court together yeah I think I'm going to have to play the three Auburn I ended up playing the three a lot so it won't really be a big difference you just got to guard somebody a bit bigger than man so and play the bottom of the two three what appeal to you about the system the style of play here Everybody Plays within the system but they have their own identity it's not like every one size fits all everybody's able to do what they can do just within the system so Freedom kind of on that note obviously defense such a big part of this system are you a defensive minded player I'm getting there um just kind of curious like obviously like last year you guys became as the season went on you guys became this feel-good kind of story you know how they were picked low and not picked here and then you guys obviously worked your way into that spot different this year right I mean you guys are going to be in that spot from from day one Focus wise m is there a difference from from one year to the next I don't think for us nothing change we going to go out there and play everybody the same way we did last year like we got nothing to lose so yeah does it pressure-wise or I mean does it change anything as far as preparation or anything I mean the way you approach it or shouldn't be no pressure no just this short time I watched Sydney she had she didn't miss so she missed much in scrimmages so far really I didn't see you miss once JJ can you talk about Zia now that she's on the court obviously looked like she had a huge impact on the bench in the locker room last year how does that translate into the court Zia just that energy player she always going to be hype and I think she gives us a different look on the outside being that she's a bigger guard who she can probably guard a post if she needed to but she can ALS also stretch the floor and get us them um knock down threes or get to the hoop so it's good for us for sure if I may kind of spin a little bit on what I was asking JJ what feels better working you know being the underdog and working your way up to respect or having that respect going in to the season where everyone's like oh you guys are top 10 or you know what I mean I mean honestly I think like realistically like well me personally if I'm watching the team I'm always going for the underdog cuz they have nothing to lose so you can play a little bit like free of mind cuz it's like you know we don't have nothing to lose might as well play hard so yeah being like at the top I mean it's a little bit of pressure cuz you know you're held at a standard and you're expected to win but um I think we'll do well with either one obviously last year we did good being underdogs and I think we'll be good at staying at that standard that people hold us to JJ is there a comfort level now that you finally have a coach that's carrying over for a second year uh yeah definitely especially the girls in the team honestly they make everything easier and then the coaches he's a very calm dude so it's easy to get along with him for sure was it hard to go through the transition one system one coach to the next to the next how difficult was that during those times um I wouldn't say it was difficult I would just say was different like each of the coaches had two different three different styles sorry uh three different personalities so just trying to figure out what was comfortable for me me and what I could do to help them out J how about having a scrimmage without any guys on the floor I mean you got enough players now to be able to have a full scrimmage with a full squat that's got to be different for you right yeah it feels good to have you know a little substitute here and there so yeah that feels good for sure for either Jordan or JJ just looking at practice today it seems like this team overall a little bit taller than last year a little bit more of a post presence how key is that for you all given it seemed like at times last year that's kind of what you all were missing how how big can that be for this year's team I mean that's very important especially with the ioka Lees in our league and the Audi Crooks like having that post presence is important so me and JJ not flying behind trying to tip the ball uh and then also like with rebounding you know we struggled with rebounding last year so that'll definitely help us with that but yeah our post players they working hard you know they learning a lot too but they've been doing really good and I'm proud of them Sydney um I'm sure you're still feeling your way around learning the system learning the players you kind of feel in that like you feel in that role that Lauren Fields had last year are you aware of her and they talked to you about that at all the the kind of the the extra guard out there and the energy and all the shooting and all that I know that she was a really big defensive presence so I know that's something that I got to fill up uh they talked very highly of her so I know I have you know my work cut out for me but not specifically about her you're obviously just you're different everybody's different right yeah we're two completely different players but I do feel like I could bring that okay for you personally how how different is this summer from last summer when you were you obviously had experience with Coach but you're meeting all the new teammates and getting adjusted to a new town and such um yeah I mean last year you know everything was new for me too like you know new teammates all I knew was coach Kell coach Grayson so um I was still kind of like working my way through it last summer but this summer you know I feel like a like I have relationships with everybody you know I know what everybody likes to do so it makes it easier for me to like communicate to them I know what coach want so I can get everybody in their positions before you know he has to tell us to do something so I mean it's just been great like having an experience with coach this is my third year with him I mean it's it's been great and it's benefiting us Jordan on that note same thing as JJ how big is it t z back I know you guys have a history and now she's on the floor with you yeah I finally get to play with Zia I mean she was at SFA but she was hurt there too so I mean z i mean she brings a lot of energy another person that's going to be on the charge board with me so I'm excited about that I mean she gets like down like she get on the floor I mean she Sprint through lines on Sprints falls to the ground like Z brings a lot of energy and we need that we need a like a personality like that on our team I'm thinking back to when you were a freshman and the confidence you were able to play with as a freshman and then kind of watching Jordan and Destiny out there today seemed like even I mean the Freshman I get it but there's a confidence level it seems like with them I'm just wondering if there's any kind of thing that you can relate to them or do you relate to them at all thinking about you know when I was a freshman one time and yeah cuz a lot of the like stuff that you like the uh the shots that's like this much inside the three-point line like I used to take them shots a lot like a lot and just little stuff that they do or ask questions like I could see that was me back three years ago but they have confidence especially Destiny Destiny has a lot of confidence and Jordan is getting there she's been doing great I think both of them have been doing great for us and can't wait to see what they do in these next coming years do you see potential there with him yeah s you figuring your way around town yet you figured out morg to town yet a little bit of downtown cuz that's where I live you know got to run some places but you know it's it's nice figuring it out yeah Auburn was a small town too so small college town so that's not a big deal right no defin this campus is like more spread out which is different because Auburn was very like everything's right here any doubts when you were making the move up I mean hey can I play at a a higher level and when did it sort of hit you okay I can be successful here um I didn't really have too many doubts but honestly like the speed of the game was you know a little bit faster I didn't expect it to be that fast but thank God I'm fast so uh but yeah no doubts and what what else did you say I'm sorry what was there a moment then you you said yeah okay I can I can play at this level I mean honestly in practice you know practicing with JJ I knew JJ was one of the best guards in the country so I'm like I could stay up with her I can stay up with anybody so that's when I really was like I can do this like uh like I said like earlier in the season like JJ gave me like a lot of confidence like being a short you know guard playing against her every day and like guarding her every day so I would say like imprac before the season even started I was like yeah I can do this so with the expectations part coming into a team that already has kind of like built-in expectations with you know all the starters coming back from NCA tournament team did that play a part and say hey I wanted to go to a team that you know has expectations or was that any part of it and in it for you at all or um it did play a part in it I like the way they carry themselves and I like the standard that they held themselves to is something I really wanted to be a part of you ever been ital I drove through Italy but I never like stopped in Italy yeah drove through it yeah we were last year we on a 4 and two I forgot we were driving from like brance to Switzerland I think and we stopped at like one of those great bards Vineyards just write it right don't quick tour of the boot huh yeah JJ you were talking about you being a veteran on this team do you kind of get the feeling that you're a veteran and now that you're the person that the younger players and the new players are going to is that has that hit you yet I don't think it's hit me yet I think I'm still a little I still feel like that kid some sometimes still learning since I've only been under this coach this would be my second year so sometimes I still feel like that sophomore coming in just came off my freshman year but at the end of the day I know like I got to become that leader become more vocal so I'm definitely getting to that point has it gone fast four years has it gone fast yeah it really has it feel like yesterday since Carrie was here so it's been gone you're certainly more comfortable up here you're more talkative up here than you were yeah I hated being here about 3 years ago do you guys get a sense when teams are scared of your defense can you read it in their in their faces yeah they start holding the ball looking for holding it for they head or not want the dribble yeah me and be like yeah we F to get this I'm going to attack her but yeah it's in eyes for sure you said you're laughing what's it like going up against these two when they pressure you it sucks like I can understand why someone would be screaming out first of all they're lling quick so it's like what they going to do you're R the ball right yeah yeah [Music] thanks everyone thank you thank thank you
