SLOT'S PERFECT START! | Manchester United 0-3 Liverpool reaction

[Applause] well that was pretty good wasn't it Manchester United nil Liverpool 3 a fantastic result and performance from Arna slotman at Old Trafford today but just before I start I want to make a note of the fact that I'm clearly in unfamiliar surroundings I'm not at Old Trafford I'm not in my office at home um I've been fortunately invited out here to Oslo to watch the the game with the Liverpool supporters Club here in Norway and a fantastic experience really thank them for inviting me out here but I couldn't avoid or or miss out on updating you on this game and going through it because it as I say it was a marvelous performance in Liverpool and a brilliant result um it's been a great start really overall for Anna slots man hasn't it you so many aspects really to to be pleased about not just in this game but across all three games you've seen so far but I mean a big win over United that is a good way to ingratiate yourself to supporters isn't it in AR slot is overa a bit of a masterclass really in terms of the performance today it's kind of interesting actually that the statistics kind of maybe suggest that Manchester United had a better game than they did I mean you look at the expected goals it's 1.36 for United 1.73 for Liverpool so quite close eight shots for United 11 for Liverpool and three shots on target each with three big chances for for United and four for Liverpool but I do think that game state had a big impact on that I think it's particularly when Liverpool went 3-0 up they did take the foot off the gas a little bit and United did have some opportunities around that moment but you would expect that you know they're playing at home they've got the fans there they have to try and press on them they were going to try and work to try and find something a little bit of a consolation in the game and Liverpool they were finding it quite easy up to that point so I don't think the statistics necessarily reflect how dominant and how good Liverpool were in this game and how much they deserve to to win it in comfortable fashion I mean ultimately I I feel like at times in this game especially once it went 2-n that Liverpool really were toying with Manchester United they were turning over the ball in the areas they wanted to they were passing it through uh United's formation with ease and creating chances at will really and you know some of the chances he had I think particularly that one that soas has where the ball falls through in the Box he should be taking a shot there and it really we should be looking what would have been a deserved 4-nil win but in the end Liverpool have to be happy with 3-0 and and that that we'll have to do but very much a good performance and good result in the end and I think one of the things I I want to talk about and one of the things I really liked about the performance in particular was the control we we've seen that in previous games so far this season it's something that ARA slot likes but again you know this was the true test of it can you show that control a very difficult place to go uh Old Trafford a team who always wants to Counterattack you and they've got quality and Pace together that can really hurt you as we've seen only last season really with Liverpool's two visits to Manchester United getting turned over by a lesser side but they do have the quality to hurt you if you allow them if you don't control the game I thought Liverpool and and this has been a consistent theme so far this season is they just have a solid base you know that two that double pivot that they used there mallister and grenberg working really well H to to cover off spaces never leaving themselves kind of open to the counter and making sure there's always bodies in the right spots to to stop those counters developing or at least slow them down so that you can get more men behind the ball thought the structure in terms of that was very very good from Liverpool today and I also like the structure in possession they always had ways to progress the ball through United's formation it you know again that is something that didn't always look that good at Old Trafford last season that they were playing themselves into blind alleys and that's where United when then turning the ball over as Liverpool just found it easy to create an extra man and pass through the lines and and essentially get themselves to the edge of the United area without too much difficulty which so impressive again that that Arna slaugh has been able to get this into the team so so early in his rain really and and it felt like a a key difference actually to between the slot and klopp's last games at Old Trafford and Slot coming in it just seemed easier and more Serene more structured both off the ball and in the way that liol used it and I just thought that was a hugely encouraging aspect and really foundational to the fact that Liverpool won the game but also won it comfortably so you know huge tick in the box and the manager really in terms of the way he set them up to do that now I do occasionally go into individuals and I have to do that in this occasion I keep speaking about Ryan Graber but I think the fact is he is almost the main talking point of the team at the moment isn't he you so many questions about Liverpool's desire to get a number six in and can they use Grabber there he's not a natural but can he play it I thought again he answered yet again more questions about him you know would a natural Holder have put in a better performance than Ryan grenberg it would have been very difficult for them to do that because I thought he was excellent again today the statistics bear it out he wins seven out of his 10 Jewels two out of two tackles six recoveries four interceptions and I thought the best moment really for sort of summing up his suitability for that role that he plays is around the first goal that Liverpool scor his long legs get out there and make the interception on the casemiro pass and then it's all about his quality on the ball which we know he has drives forward waits to pick the the pass at the right moment to mosalah he chips it over and then it's a goal from L Diaz well taken and that is exactly what you want from your number six that is your holding midfielder intercepting the ball moving it forward incisively to an attacker then who who sets up a goal it's just literally the perfect example of a a number six and how that role should work and I think there've been several of those really for Ryan Graber across these first three games you know you don't want to get carried away because you almost feel like a okay with poor performance is going to come from him at some point he isn't a natural maybe some point it's going to go wrong for him that certainly hasn't happened yet and I've been massively massively impressed particularly with the pressure that's been put on him in terms of having to adapt that new to that new role and he's still a very young player I thought he's done marvelously well and today was another huge step forward for him you know will Liverpool address that in January the number six position do they feel that they need uh more depth there and a better option possibly it's something they'll look to do but for now you can be confident that Liverpool have' got someone in there who can very much do the job J but grenberg absolutely um brilliant really today and uh a couple of other individuals want to get into Lewis Diaz again feel like I keep speaking about him but look the main criticism of him coming into this season was you know finishing can he have that end product can he get the assists and the goals and I think is he up to three goals now and one assist in the Premier League across three games and two goals today that were brilliantly taken you know you talk about his finishing and the the way he put that header away to to open the scoring with sober l in front of him that's a very very difficult chance and he buries it into the top corner and then the second one casually stroking it into the into the bottom corner again and no chance these are the finishes we want to see from him and you know we don't know how much influence slot has had on him yet in terms of his coaching but I'm sure one of his big jobs this season was to get a little bit more end product out of Lis Diaz and so far so good on that front and two goals today and with everything else he provides you the work rate his ability to drag Liverpool up the pitch I mean if he does have those goals he really is an elite level left wing you know the really really top class because he will have everything that you want from that that that player in a slot system and yeah two two great goals today in really good performance and I also have to talk about Muhammad Salah of course he scores the other goal he's now got 15 goals against Manchester United in just 16 games against him and six assists as well in that time I mean we running out of superlatives for him really he just a marvelous footballer um elely level he's really is making a case again isn't he you have to give him that new contract maybe it's 2 years maybe you know he I'm sure he'll want three but you know can Liverpool find any compromise with him they surely have to H because he's just top top level yet again and and the fact he loves scoring against United he loves scoring in big games um he he loves scoring in every game really and and he tends to as well but I just thought you know again just underlining how important he is and surely is going to be Liverpool's top scorer this season as he always is in in every season that he's been at Liverpool now the final point I want to leave it on really is another hugely positive because of course it's been a hugely positive start to the season but it's that you know Liverpool have played three games now under aror slot they've scored seven goals and conceded zero and the the underlying performance looks very very good for them as well I mean I I spoke to a fan just as I came in to film the podcast here and he said maybe we found out Bob Paisley and that comparison is feels really apt at the moment we'll see if he hit goes on to have that much success but the idea that someone who's a little bit calmer and more subtle than the the the fire brand of Shankle or klopp and coming in and building on their good work I think you can say from these first three games that we're seeing signs of that and it's hugely hugely encouraging it's hugely exciting as well I mean we're bouncing into this first International break with Liverpool nine points on the board up there with Manchester City and looking pretty pretty good so it's yeah it's very very exciting I think for supporters and I'm sure there's even more to come which again is a a really thrilling thought because Liverpool have' been very very good so far and looked like they' be right up there in contention for trophies this season so almost can't wait for this International break to be over so do let me know of course as ever in the comments what did you think of the
