Kirby Smart Fired Off A Big Take About UGA Football's Schedule

Kirby Smart made a statement in the most recent spring practice press conference this past Tuesday about Georgia's schedule in 20125 that I don't think is very bold I actually agree with what he had to say talking about how it's probably the best ever I'll get the exact quote but calling George's 2025 schedule probably the best ever Homewise right 20124 well a few months ago when all of this came out the immediate reaction was wa Georgia's schedule is loaded with Big Time opponents well guess what a lot of them were on the road right when you talk about having to go to Bama go to Texas go to Kentucky go to Old Miss Right In addition to playing at Clemson in Atlanta in addition to dealing with the Jacksonville game against Florida Georgia schedule loaded with a lot of traveling and a lot of big games a lot of big venues in 2024 flipping it around as the new as we have a new look SEC these next few years and they're just going to flip the SEC schedule around so in 2025 Georgia is going to have Kentucky at home they're going to host Bama they're going to host Texas they're going to host Miss they'll have to travel to Tennessee traval Auburn not not as different as what they've dealt with the past 15 20 years as a program but the home part of it having big names like haven't all missed this past season that was a big time home game for Georgia they're going to have it again and that that was the biggest one in terms of brand value right and it just not happening a lot it was a big deal it was a big weekend Auburn weekend is always probably going to be the biggest for the most part on a yearly basis that wasn't the case this past year cuz they were they were in Auburn but you know compared to the other games this past season the almost miss one by far the biggest deal college game they was there and that won't even be the the in the top two for the most hype because Texas and Bama will be coming to Athens in 2025 I know that we've already hit you with the schedule you're already seeing I'm just discussing it a little more giv my take on it having my Siri making her stop talking right Kirby obviously there was a lot talked about Trev Tim was one of the big topics this week but the schedule was brought up as well and he said me personally we've got one of the toughest Road schedules in the country talking about this year I'd like to see it flipped where we have to get the opportunity to have our fan base probably the best home schedule in Georgia history he starts to go on about the parts that he doesn't understand and kind of talking more about the intricacies of the SEC scheduling but the dogs right well they'll have to go through a road Gauntlet in 2024 but in 2025 for the fans for the city of Athens these are the things that it it's affecting a lot right George is going to play the schedule is going to play but to have Mary programs like Texas Alabama they they're just well first of all I don't know when Tech if Texas has ever been I don't I don't know but it's been a long time since Alabama 2015 right Mary PR so it'll be a Whole Decade that Georgia will host a program that they've been battling it out at the top of college football with over the last8 years right so that get that will that will be on display in Sanford Stadium these games just don't happen a lot even just seeing Old Miss last year right it's been since what the early 2000s is right when when or I can't remember the exact cut off date but Georgia and all Miss used to play every single year and the rebels hadn't been Athens in a while when they came in 2023 and so now they will be returning in 2025 to be the third biggest home game the Georgia has that year I mean that's that's the crazy part about it because like Alabama and Texas I you know it will depend a little bit on what goes on this year as to which one will be bigger I'm going to lean towards Alabama being a little bit bigger but Texas's brand is growing even more so right already one of the biggest brands and it adds even more and more when you add the flare of them being in the SEC it's big uh you know I had a hard time finding a schedule that was better than the 2025 one as far as the fun the at atmospheres it would bring I went through all of the schedules the Georgia had in the in the 2000s didn't really look past that because you know we're just starting to get to a point where pre-2000 was a while ago we're talking about a quarter Century now that's a we're all getting older but I I don't know there there are years where there was one huge game or there were two huge games and I've got a few of them pulled up that I'll discuss some of them that you know I was in attendance for and it's not n of it's going to compare to what Athens is going to see in 2025 Ryan looking um I've got look I went as far back to 1983 really looking at schedules where I just I I don't remember these games I understand them I know the his you know I i' like to think I know a good bit about George's football history but when you look at that 1983 schedule that's one that I've had people tell me about uh I was about to give a name shout out but someone was talking about that 1983 game and against uh UCLA how big of a deal was of UCLA there how I believe it was very r day right and a lot of white t-shirts are going on it was that type of day there and that's kind of why I was laughing because that's the joke but that UCLA game was a big deal and I realized that maybe you didn't understand what I was talking about right there in 1983 I think about 2022 right that number one Tennessee team coming into Athens and playing in what is like what the biggest game ever right between two top three teams a team that was ranked number one in the team that was ranked number one in the college football playoff everyone started to have Tennessee as number one all of a sudden when Georgia had been number one throughout the entire year and then Ohio State flirted with it a little bit right before that they clashed Georgia crushes them right but it was Tennessee is a team that they play a lot it wasn't you know that's expectation on georg's schedule so there wasn't another really really Marquee game like that at home right especially when Georgia plays these neutral sites like the Clemson game in 2021 the Clemson game this coming season the Oregon game those don't really count as far as the home slate I looked at 20 14 right you had that top 16 match up fun match up against Clemson to start the year but you know top 10 against Auburn top 16 against Georgia Tech that's a solid year nothing crazy right it I mean that for the most part it's it's not crazy when you go through Georgia's football schedule history and obviously they play really good teams cuz they're in the SEC but there aren't and because of the the way scheduling was with the divisions too you don't really you don't get Georgia playing like an Alabama and LSU in the same season that's those are the things that are going to able to happen now with different rules um you know I looked at 2013 when they had they hosted a top 10 LSU but other than that I mean what was the second best home game was against South Carolina top 10 so they had two top 10 matchups but and look Texas and Alabama and Georgia might not all three be top 10 teams who knows I would suspect that they are all top programs and then the only other and this is one that I went to but and actually this was my freshman year of college of Georgia 2019 Notre Dame big deal big game there's obviously some history between Georg and Notre Dame there when you talk about that 1980 National Championship um but when you look at the home schedule it was Notre Damon the second most appealing one was Texas A&M later on in the year right cuz that's a team that Georgia doesn't play every year it's it's a big program but that Texas A&M team wasn't super special or not in a super special time the way it was like 10 years ago with Johnny Manzel and all of that and you look at the rest of the schedule what preceded Notre Dame two home games against Murray State and Arkansas State so you can't even say that that probably even comes close to experiencing what it's going to be I mean they're going to have at home Austin PA Charlotte those will be two cupcakes and then have Bama Texas on Miss Kentucky and the way it works for student tickets too I mean I can't even imagine what ath is going to be like I can't imagine what the downtown scene is going to be like during the day and night it's going to start on Wednesday and Thursday for these types of games where the the town's just getting a little bit more crowded a little bit more crowded right there aren't any dates set for these games so you know we don't know and people can't really book their hotels I'm sure there are people booking stuff out for airbnbs and stuff as far as you can go but I I can't imagine what the town's going to be like because I've seen what the town is for obviously this program is at the highest level of excitement it's ever been at the last few years you see what it's like on a weekly basis during the football season and you see what it's like when Auburn comes to town or Tennessee comes to town compared to a different School having Texas and Bama and Old Miss all in the same season hasn't been like that before and I agree with Kirby Smart that this is probably the best home season ever and look maybe georg's output isn't that but it's it's in terms of on paper excitement that it brings that's the best way to put it thanks for watching
