NFL Week 1 Power Rankings

welcome back to Steelers therapy I'm your host Ron John today we're going to be doing the power rankings after week one NFL performances let's do it let's go all right now one caveat before we get into this these are my rankings they may not be your rankings I am an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan however I'm more of an avid Pittsburgh Steelers realist I usually am actually harder on them regarding where they sit as far as other teams maybe than most Steelers fans but I don't know you tell me did I get it right did I get it wrong what do the rankings look like tell me about it in the comments below and if you haven't please subscribe to the channel like this video share it let's get started with the rankings okay up first number 32 the Carolina Panthers and why well it's self-evident Carolina sucks they're not good they don't do anything well Bryce young has been a bust they have uh little weapons I thought getting Deontay Johnson would give some Outlet valve to uh Bryce young barely used in game one they don't have a defense and they're basically doing an impression of what they did last year so there you go with Carolina at 32 at 31 the New York Giants Daniel J Jones ouch uh they extended him they gave him lots of money uh I guess you know this is a league where you want to deal with the devil you know over the devil that you don't know so keeping Daniel Jones somehow seemed like a viable option to Giants management but I mean I think you guys saw that pick six he threw right to the defender walked in for a touchdown Daniel Jones just isn't the guy uh they're going to have to blow it up and start over uh Giants 31 coming in at 30 the Tennessee Titans uh my sort of take on the Tennessee Titans is is they have no weapons um will Levis could be and progress into maybe a decent quarterback we've seen him have some nice throws some nice games he's likely not the guy but if he was he would need some sort of Weaponry uh they really just don't have it there uh Titans at number 30 number 29 the Las Vegas Raiders you know I I just they don't have an identity um they have Max Crosby on defense so certainly you know he helps from a defensive perspective but they don't have a good defense they don't have a good offense um they don't run the ball particularly well don't really do anything well um and Garner muu is kind of a Ryan Fitzpatrick like quarterback you know he's in the upper tier of backup quarterbacks just teetering on you know a starter and he's going to bridge teams together uh that that need a bridge quarterback put together some nice games to to give him just enough to keep him around but ultimately he's not good enough to be a starter uh Raiders at 29 28 the Chicago Bears um this is a lucky team I cannot believe that they won that game uh last week they uh Caleb Williams did not play well he played terribly as a matter of fact they they were very lucky I mean obviously you kind of create your own luck with defensive scores special team scores but Chicago is not going to be able to do this on a weekly basis certainly it's Caleb Williams first game uh but if he doesn't start to show that he has something more than that he might be headed for the same trajectory as Bryce young so uh Chicago Bears 28 26 seven Washington commanders so I think the theme Here is that you Daniels just is going to need some time we saw that he's got explosiveness with his legs he can deliver the football he actually looks somewhat confident out there but the Washington commanders just don't have enough Firepower uh around the team they certainly they have Scary Terry mclen you know who's a great receiver to throw too but uh ultimately it's just going to take this team time uh to get under you know their feet under them them uh so they're not terrible but they're they're not going to have a good year they're headed for five six seven wins so the commanders go at 27 at 26 the Minnesota Vikings um I would have had them towards the bottom of this list uh before week one I was very surprised at Sam darnold's performance he played very well I'm sure that makes Colin coward happy uh because all he he loves Sam darnold and Sam darnold has been a bust since he got into the league uh maybe you know what he needed was Justin Jefferson some of the offensive weapons on that team so we'll see we'll see if this carries over and and they can continue to play well and and Justin Jefferson can pull this team forward so Vikings 26 25 the Cleveland Browns uh look their defense was overrated last year it was number one at home it was towards the bottom of the league away they had n home games eight away games and it kind of evened out to them having a number one defense but uh they got shellacked at home by the Cowboys Deshawn Watson doesn't even look interested in playing anymore uh so you know they have a QB quandry they have a QB issue what are they going to do they paid him almost a quarter billion dollars in guaranteed money uh do you go to jamus Winston what do you do uh so yeah Browns things aren't looking good 25 24 the Denver Broncos uh Denver has some pieces on defense you know they have uh Pat San great cornerback and we saw two safeties versus the Seattle Seahawks but ultimately the Seattle Seahawks were able to get going had their way first their defense but the theme with the Broncos is they have no offense there are no weapons on offense bonix is going to be a bust trust me when I tell you that's going to happen and they're going to find themselves in the exact same spot that they are a couple years from now uh ever since pton Manning they've had an issued quarterback position they're going to continue to have one uh Broncos 24 23 the New England Patriots uh look they have a good ownership structure good management uh I think Mayo as a coach uh is is certainly good for them but they don't have any a-listers they don't have any stars in this team they're not going to do anything special they're going to win some games just based on good coaching good management good ownership but ultimately they're not going to uh go anywhere is a general rule just because of the lack of talent that they have so uh Patriots 23 22 the Cincinnati Bengals now I know a lot of people have the Bengals higher but I've been saying this since before the season and you can go back and look the Bengals are not a good team they don't have a good roster they don't have a good offensive line and their defense is halfway decent it's not great so it'll keep him in some games help him win some games but this team is all Joe burrow and Jamar Chase certainly th Higgins is good but these two have to carry this team and uh these two have to win games for this team in spite of a bad offensive line in spite of a bad running game uh so the the Bengals certainly Joe burrow and Jamar Chase can get hot but I I think teams are going to be come wise to that's really their only way to win and the Bengals are going to struggle this year I think they're not going to have a winning season this year so Bengals at 22 at 13 the New York Jets so what was that versus the 49ers now look I get it the 49ers are a juggernaut they're a Powerhouse but you expect a team like the New York Jets to play a little bit better especially with the pieces that they have on defense the 49ers did whatever ever they wanted versus the Jets defense and Aaron Rogers really wasn't the problem on that offense uh he can still throw a halfway decent pretty ball uh it was everybody else in the offense that wasn't really performing well you know especially their lack of of receiving Talent so uh I'm not sure what's in store for the Jets but what they showed in their first game with Aaron roders doesn't instill a lot of hope so we'll see maybe their defense will settle down and and Aaron Rogers can command the offense and they'll get some wins but for now Jets 21 20 Seattle Seahawks to me they're just outside of good uh Gino Smith yeah he had a comeback season was comeback player of the year the guy can play quarterback but he's just at the edge of being a backup uh in the league so he's just good enough to be a starter and that makes his team just good enough to win games but never be a serious team never seriously be in contention uh to make noise in the playoffs they've got nice pieces DK meaf is awesome we know that he can explode um but the Seattle Seahawks they're 20 they're they're just outside of being good 19 the Jacksonville Jaguars so who is Trevor Lawrence this is a guy that came out of college with the highest pedigree one in a generation Talent supposedly has all the tools has everything to be a championship caliber quarterback and I just don't see it he's not bad I believe he's taking the team to the playoffs I think last year they kind of squandered their playoff hopes but he doesn't seem to be this generational quarterback everybody talked about there's still time for him to develop and for this team to catch its feet and be more consistent but it's hard to really know what the Jaguars are and what Trevor Lawrence is right now so there the Jaguars are at 19 at 18 Arizona Cardinals the theme with the Arizona Cardinals is that they have a really short quarterback and Kyler Murray I know that he's athletic he can run around he's actually got a halfway decent arm but the guy's just not tall enough to be consistently good at the quarterback position in the NFL he's always going to struggle uh to to find lanes over big defensive linemen the Arizona Cardinals are never going to compete for a championship with Kyler Murray uh they may have him there and he may be holding things together with duct tape But ultimately uh when you have a quarterback that's 5'7 you're never going to go places so uh but they're not that bad of a team and they still can make some noise so Cardinals at 18 it's 17 the Indianapolis Colts uh what are they who are they what's their identity I get a little bit confused with the Colts they drafted Anthony Richardson this guy measured off the charts everywhere in the combine he has a a lot of Lamar jackson-esque qualities to his play you know this is a team that can play bully ball like the Ravens that can run the ball with their quarterback on draws pick up tough yards they can run it with their running back they can play halfway good defense and uh really dictate the terms but I haven't seen them quite be able to do that yet with Anthony Richardson obviously he's been hurt hasn't uh you I didn't play much of last year so uh we'll see who they are and what they become you know is is Anthony Richardson going to be used for his arm his legs both what is it but they are a tough out so for now they're at 17 it's 16 the Atlanta Falcons uh after game one it's obvious this team isn't jelling yet they have a great roster Kurt Cousins can still sling the ball he's been one of the best passers in the game over the last half decade very prolific the Atlanta Falcons picked up nice pieces on defense in I think judon and Jesse Bates so this is a team that that has a you know they have bejan Robinson at the running back position they've got a decent roster but obviously you could see from the first game cousins is uncomfortable the defense is vulnerable and uh yeah until they start jelling they're going to be stuck kind of in the middle here at 16 at 15 the Los Angeles Rams um look they're not a bad team they went to the playoffs last year they lost a close game to the the Lions last year and again the first game of the season lost a close game to the Lions again uh they have some Talent obviously with Shawn McVey they've got good coaching they've got some decent players pukan aaku did get hurt um but you have Matthew Stafford who is you know a stalwart at the position but he's getting older and I think a lot of people have this team too high on their rankings I I with the injuries with the age of some of their players like Cooper cup Matthew Stafford uh I think this team is is going to be in it's in a decline right now so they're still a tough team to play they can still make the playoffs uh but I don't think they're as good as what everybody else thinks so there they are at 15 at 14 the Pittsburgh Steelers uh my Pittsburgh Steelers um what can you say it's defense and TJ Watt that's what keeps the Steelers competitive uh they have a good smothering defense and TJ watt alone singlehandedly wins games for the Pittsburgh Steelers he's the best defensive player in the league you can't argue that uh but the Steelers still have this clumsy uh inefficient crappy offense that they've really had since the waning years of Big Ben and without a true offense the Pittsburgh Steelers are never going to be able to compete with top five teams Powerhouse teams uh and and you see what happens when the Steelers play those teams they get blown out uh teams that you know are lower than them on this list they they usually can beat through one score close games and kind of managing that but you know until the the Steelers can prove that they can move the ball on offense they're going to be in the middle of the pack in the league they're going to be uh 9 and seven 10- seven 9 and8 type of a team and uh yeah that's where the Steelers are until they can prove otherwise so Steelers at 14 at 13 the Green Bay Packers look I would have them higher on this list was disappointed in their start versus the Eagles but uh with Jordan love being hurt not knowing how long he's going to be hurt what that looks like the Packers are going to get off to a rough start this year they're probably going to have a lot of losses they're going to have to come back from really like the way Jordan love looked last year uh at the end of the year in in the playoffs but with love being hurt uh and with that first performance got to knock him down here a little bit so they're at number 13 at number 12 the Los Angeles Chargers look I know that they did they basically took all the Ravens running backs but they took good running backs Gus Edwards is a Bruiser he's always been able to run well and JK Dobbins I I think he's sneaky good he was good in college for Ohio State U the dude can run the ball he's just been hurt a lot and you saw the damage that he can do first game of the year Justin Herbert is a good quarterback they've got a a good coach and Jim Harbaugh uh I I see them maybe ascending up this list as the season goes on so for now they're at 12 uh at 11 the New Orleans Saints I think a lot of people have them you know as worse on this list if you will lower on the list uh than I do I have them up at 11 uh you have to give them credit for what they did against the Carolina Panthers I think it's a combination of both in that the Saints have weapons Derek Carr is an experienced quarterback he's always been in the upper half of uh quarterbacks in the league certainly not really in the top five or 10 but you know he's definitely been in the upper half uh they have other weapons and pieces and you know the Saints beat the hell out of the Carolina Panthers so uh for right now they look like a team you wouldn't want to play certainly you don't want to play them in New Orleans so for for now they're just outside top 10 at 11 and it's kind of a Tob determin to see if they really are as good as what that game was or if the Carolina Panthers are just that bad so Saints at 11 at 10 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers carrying the torch is Baker Mayfield uh I this is a story I like I like the story with Baker Mayfield the Cleveland Browns essentially tried to upgrade their quarterback by paying Deshawn Watson a quarter billion dollars in guaranteed money and Outing Baker Mayfield and what they did was downgrade their quarterback position and I feel a little bit bad for Baker Mayfield his stats were not that good the year maybe year and a half prior but he was fighting through an injury probably shouldn't have been playing and now he gets some Redemption he gets paid he's playing great football for the Buccaneers they're dangerous they have lots of weapons uh so I think it's a good story and I'm excited for the bucks and Baker so there they go at 10 at nine the Miami Dolphins the theme the Miami Dolphins is speed they have speed all over the field whether it's Tyreek Hill Tua Wadd this team can uh beat you over the top and and flip games very quickly uh their defense isn't that bad certainly they are fighting through some injuries at the running back position they've got an offensive-minded coach I don't think they're good enough to compete with the Juggernaut teams in the top five but they certainly can be dangerous and they're at nine at number eight the Dallas Cowboys uh the Dallas Cowboys can be a dangerous team they've won 12 games the last three seasons so they've been pretty consistent but the defense is really good and Micah Parsons is just a maniac with his hair on fire out there uh they're they're very hard to score on very hard to play against and they do have Dak Prescott and while he's caught a lot of flak for not being able to finish games not being able to win playoff games the guy's a good quarterback and he's been in the upper echelon uh of quarterback since he's been in the league he just got paid and he's incentivized to continue to play well he's got weapons like CD lamb this is a team that can get dangerous and quickly Cowboys at eight it's seven the Buffalo Bills the bills are going to be good as long as they have Josh Allen I think Josh Allen is your quintessential perfect uh quarterback as far as build and talent goes the guy he's got speed he's a tough Runner that can run over defenders he has a mega strong arm he keeps you guessing this team is always going to be competitive with Josh Allen uh they I believe they got worse over the offseason from a roster perspective he doesn't have as many weapons uh as he once had the defense is vulnerable and has holes but like I said as long as you have Josh Allen you have a shot uh and if he can limit his turnover issues uh boy the bills can be dangerous so bills at seven it's six the Houston Texans uh I am the first one to say I was wrong about CJ stoud I thought he was going to struggle in the NFL uh especially with you know kind of the perception that he had after taking that QB test and not doing well on it so he's had sort of this chip on his shoulder but boy this offense is just good there is nothing but receivers uh on this team whether it's tank Dell Nico Collins Stefon Diggs CJ stra delivers the ball the team got better on defense this is a team that I think can be definitely a top five team top three team by the time the season is over wouldn't be surprised if they found their way into the Super Bowl Texans at six at five the Baltimore Ravens and kind of the same thing with the bills the Baltimore Ravens it's all about Lamar Jackson uh although I do need to to credit the Ravens defense I do think they have a good defense their secondary particularly from a roster standpoint is excellent a little bit disappointed in their performance against the Chiefs but you know you're in the Chiefs first game of the year they're the defending Super Bowl champions you're in their house it's going to be hard to play against them but the Ravens were in that game until the end this is a good football team they play bully ball they can run the ball well I think Derrik Henry is going to be a good addition uh and look out for the Baltimore Ravens again would not be surprised at all to see them in the big game at the end of the season Ravens at five at four the Detroit Lions uh so I think the theme with the Detroit Lions is that they're steady they're steady really on both sides of the ball uh Jared Goff is not a world beater but he is a halfway decent quarterback they have a great running game with Jamar Gibbs and Montgomery they have good receivers am man St Brown they have a good defense with guys like Aiden Hutchinson so they're steady across the board they're going to be a tough out for any team again a team like this wouldn't be surprised at all to see them in the Super Bowl although I do wonder if Jared Goff really does have it in him to win a Super Bowl he's not a bad quarterback he's been to a Super Bowl before but can this guy be the guy that actually delivered can he put the Lions on their back when he needs to I don't know we'll see but Lions uh good team they're at four so top three with number three the Philadelphia Eagles uh they just have a great offensive scheme on this team I mean getting saquin Barkley was just genius uh that was a big spark that they were missing you got a guy like Jaylen Herz that can run the ball well he can throw it to his weapons and uh AJ Brown Devonte Smith uh so this is a team that offensively is going to give uh defenses fits when it comes to uh uh their play and their defense is okay it's not great but I don't really think that matters this team is built to outscore other teams I think as long as they can run the ball run other teams over beat them over the top uh they're going to be just fine so uh you know again we'll we'll see kind of the same thinking is uh uh Jared gof you know does jayen Herz he is a good quarterback but does he have it in him to put the team completely on his back when he needs to uh we'll see but for now Eagles at three top two teams number two the San Francisco 49ers and look if you have them number one on your list I wouldn't say you're wrong um this team is just a Powerhouse they did whatever they wanted versus the New York ja last year they were a Powerhouse as well this is just a good football team across the board uh they beat the hell out of the Jets with a back or with an undrafted running back with Mr Irrelevant a quarterback uh they their weapons all over the field whether it's mcaffrey Debo Samuel uh you know you name it Bosa on defense they've got it this team can go all the way uh and I would not want to play them in any game this season so uh 49ers at two and number one it's no surprise should be most people's number one is the Kansas City Chiefs they took care of what I believe is a a top five team in the NFL at home uh they won the last Super Bowl they won the one before that I believe they have the best player in the league and Patrick Mahomes at quarterback they have the best coach in the league and Andy Reid and until somebody uh can show that they can beat them h and and beat them well uh they're going to be number one and even if somebody does beat them you know there are a few teams that that go undefeated so teams do get beaten sometimes but the Kansas City Chiefs have to show that they're slowing down at all to give up the number one slot and they haven't this is the team they're on the throne and until uh that changes that's what it is so again this is my top 32 my power rankings what did I get right what did I get wrong tell me about it in the comments below if you
