[Music] hello guys welcome to Robo replay So today we're going to be going over the first robotics world championship finals and seeing how 321s exceptional defense ended up propelling them in a 20 win over the Newton Alliance who is a heavy favorit going into this matchup [Music] the main thing to keep in mind from Auto is that the dolly L is currently down 10 points to the Newton Alliance so this is just going to mean that the doly alliance is going to have to put up some exceptional cycling and some exceptional defense to try to bring this match back which they will eventually do and win so let's check out how they ended up doing this immediately after Auto we're going to see 1323 here gunning for 321 over at the source and the 321 is going to be in the ready position to receive them so this the ready position means is basically just that the blue Alliance uh bumpers are going to be parallel with the blue Alliance Wing the reason that the blue Alliance bumpers are parallel with the LNG is that uh you want to always have leverage on your opponent whenever you're playing defense so in this case 3023 is swooping into 321 so they're going to want to have a leverage um if 1323 ends up trying to push them over they're not going be able to do that because they're not going to have an angle to try to force 321 to turn and 321 is just going to be able to hold steady because they can push back against anything that 1323 is going to try to do so 1323 is instantly aware of this and just going to try to spin around 321 but as we're going to see 321 is very aware of what they're doing so they end up in this position where 321 always has their flat and of their bumper against the flat end of 1323 is bumper which just means that 1323 is never going to have leverage to try to push inside of 321 so 1323 is going to end up again wrapping around the other end and this is where I really love what 321 does so 321 as we can currently see behind this ref is has their bumper bumper angled right now what that means is 1323 in if this wall was not here would be able to just sweep around and go but since 321 is aware that this wall is here they're not able to use the leverage that they would have had to their advantage and 321 is actually getting all the benefits of having leverage on one side of a robot and none of the downsides of having to give up that leverage so 13 since 1323 can't move left one that's one of their options gone and since 321 is leverage on them right that's another option gone which means that 1323 is only option is to either try to out rotate their opponent which they can't do since they're choked with this wall in the way or they're going to have to back up and then re hit them through another angle which we're going to end up seeing them do and see they're going to be right here and they're going to have to back off 1323 is going to try again realize it's futile and back off all right so now we're going to see 1323 is actually going to go from the instead of coming from the wing line because they just saw how that didn't work they're going to try to come in from this blue Podium side so let's see what happens so actually what ends up happening is this there's a great hit here by team scream of 4522 which ends up knocking 30 1323 just enough to where 321 is able to respond fast enough and ends up pinning 1323 against this wall and so in this sense right here we can see 302 barely hanging on by that tiny bumper clip and because of that scream hit great job by heads up play by team scream to keep 1323 in side of that area 321 able to respond fast enough great job all around and what we're going to see here from 321 is that they actually utilize the pain count to their F full potential so as we can see the bre just counted two this is the third count four and as we know in F FRC there's five counts to a pin count before you get a foul so 321 is actually going to leave at the fourth pin count and back off just enough to make the ref hesitate but still enough to keep the pin count in and they're going to end up just waiting for 1323 three to leave something that I thought that they could have improved here which they do end up actually improving later on in this match is what they're currently doing is they're doing great job at keeping 1323 out of the source when 1323 tries to leave they end up just going through the stage every time because they're exploiting 321 um leaving the lane open for them so as we can see here 321 is currently set up in this parallel position to the wing line uh with their bumpers uh parallel to the wing line where I would have liked to see them rotate a little bit and try to play more like in this sense because this way you're able to move forward and try to block off the stage and use these two pieces of trust to your advantage as a choke point and you're still also able to block off this Wing line access which 321 is currently gambling that 1323 is going to do and 1323 a great driver is aware of that fact and he's just going to take what 321s gives him and able to swoop past right here and you can see 321 just a little bit late because of the positioning that they have and 1323 is able to get that pass off now 1323 obviously they've tried to come in through the wing line before and it hasn't really worked so what we're going to see them do is say okay so we haven't come in from the wing line it hasn't been working we've just been trying to wrap all the time and it's just not we can't get through to 321 so what should we do instead let's do the thing that worked and we'll just go through here and hope that 321 can't catch us this time and what end up happening is 1323 ends up in this place where 321 is actually able to catch them because they're just it's just too obvious because 321 just locked down this entire end and they have the time and the reaction speed to react to 1323 because it's not it's now obvious right last time they did it it was a surprise in the sense that they haven't done it before so oh shoot we're back late to the party and team scream bailed them out by giving them that great hit that allowed them to continue the pin this time and for the rest of the match 321 is going to be aware of the fact that 1323 can only get through by trying to push themselves through here and every single time 1323 because of that 321 defense is just going to have to accept that either they're not going to make it through or the only where they're making it through is through a pin so we're going to see 323 again try to rotate and this is some great play here we see 321 I'm going to draw this red Source line here which as we know if any robots bumpers are inside of the source that's a foul on the uh blue Alliance so 321 barely has their bumpers outside great job keeping 1323 on the inside and let's just see what they do and they're able to keep them in and bail out at the perfect moment and so they don't incur any penalties as well as when they bail out 254 is there and so they're able to just Nick 254 a bit play a little bit on them and again bail out at the perfect moment so now we're going to see 3201 do is actually very interesting in my opinion they're actually going to let 254 continue cycling they're not playing defense on 24 at all which I love because if you try to split your attention up inside of the source Zone then you're going to end up having to switch between two robots instead of doing great defense on one robot you're going to do okay defense on two robots and against two world class teams like 1323 and 254 that's just going to be completely exploited so what they end up doing is saying okay let's let 254 cycle they're currently trying to receive notes so if they're full field cycling that means that they're taking more than double maybe even triple the amount of time that they would normally to score notes and they just wasting all of that time so let's starve them by just getting rid of 1323 from the occasion so as we see here again 321 let's leave let's leave 254 to do whatever they're doing it's fine let's just play defense on 1323 and again we see that amazing job by 321 again flat on flat pinning them against the wall again the wheels lifted off the ground because of the contact and 1323 just has no power they can't even push forward because only two wheels are on the ground because of the contact and once again one two three four and just barely backing out and sort of coming back in and so this distance uh is great because it makes the ref consider can I cancel the pin am I not going to cancel the pin and when the ref hesitates that's when it's your chance to take over the match and then again uh something I'd like to see here is 321s playing more of this box style parallel with the wing line I'd like to see them more of on a corner here because they could easily rotate this way and they have the stage Zone covered and then they also might be able to make a play like going up towards here and just trying to block of 1323 from that Angle now 1323 this this time is going to actually to come inside of their source and they're just going to start feeding notes to the middle of the field and so we're do see 1323 just start to shoot notes all the way over here and so I want you guys to pay attention to see what these notes because what ends up happening is 321 lets this happen right instead of trying to jump over maybe we fly over here a little bit um and just try to get 294 out of the game so that our partners can cycle better we're going to wait here and we're going to let 1323 see what happens when you try to pass notes to the middle of the field in a very dangerous Zone because what is happening is you have orbit right here who's going to come in here steal a note and 1323 ends up giving one note to 254 but they end up giving one note to orbit and as you can currently see the score is 61 to 60 and so in the blue align side that's a win because if we're just trading notes back and forth we're burning 1323 is time and we're giving ourselves notes in faster and when we're up that's an even trade and the even trade win when we're up so we can just see that note here right lands right here Orbit's going to fire their note back and pick up this note and fire it back and great job by 321 just letting it happen knowing that the trade of notes goes in their favor because they're up by a point and now we're going to see madtown come through here pass another note and it's just a great job overall by 321 in not doing something and being aware of the fact that they win this uh trade so now we're going going to do is we're going to see 321 end up playing some Perfect Defense and 1323 is going to try to Juke out 321 here and they're going to try to use the conditioning that they've done in the past of hey every single time we've been spinning all this time and we haven't stopped and we're just going to hit the wall and they're going to try to get 1323 to bite on that spin and try to predict the fact that 1323 is going to come here and just try to bait them out so they can take this Lane but 1320 321 is just too aware and right here 1323 ends up doing their spin signature Spin and what do they want 321 to do they want 321 to bite and just come here and overplay it but 321 is too aware and immediately re 321 driver recognizing hey they don't have anywhere to spin to there's a big trust in their way and we have this area blocked off they can't do anything but come into us so then 321 driver doesn't bite again perfect job evading these penalties the red Source LS right there neither of the bumpers on great job knowing that we can just pin 1323 against the wall and again one two three four and now we come out and give hesitation and here 321 dve base dies 321 is going to come back later in this match they're not going to get a foul for this interaction um luckily because they can't move um but 1323 is going to have just a clear Lane for a little bit and when 321 does come back they're going to have a weaker drive base and so what I really love about 321 here is that when they do come back their driver's aware of the fact that they can't push madtown as much as they were before so they're going to change up the way that they're actually playing defense to try to compensate for that instead of going for these hard pushes where we can go Bumper to Bumper and just win because we're pushing as much as 1323 we're actually going to start spinning here because we know that the only way that we can win is with leverage because if we've lost a power game then we need to take something else back and so we're taking the leverage back on our side which is a great job by 321 all right so let's look at this here 1323 is going to swoop out eventually here but what I do love is that 321 actually makes an adjustment that is great so they end up actually angling themselves correctly so that if 1323 tries to gun out from the stage again like they've been burning 321 with in the past they're going to be able to be ready to stop them but unluckily 321 does make a little bit of a jump here and they also do have a weaker drive base so they're not able to react as fast as they normally would like to so if we see here right we saw that little jump and ALS and Matt toown is just anytime you give Matt toown an opportunity they're going to take it and run with it mat's able to get outside of the blue Wing line to pass the to make that give two for those next points but I do love the adjustment and the fact that they're making those adjustments throughout the match and learning from their mistakes so 1323 gets out here it's great by them so let's pause here for a second 29 seconds left as we know in the last 20 seconds of the crescendo game if a red robot is under the blue stage or vice versa in the last 20 seconds and anybody is contacting anybody then the blue Alliance will get 10 points of tech files now at the current position we're at 85 to 77 10 points is a lot right 10 points if if 13 23 fouls here they essentially cost their team the game like there's no way you can come back from that so 321 is aware of this 321 job is saying hey we just have to slow them down enough to where they are forced to make a risky play to try to get some notes because they're already down let's let them make the mistakes and all we have to do is just keep them in here for like 98 seconds and then when they come back for notes the next time they know that they can't push through here we've conditioned them to believe that and along with the fact that team scream is actually going to end up climbing on this side 133 23's only option is either accept the foul and essentially lose their team the game or they have to come all the way around here and and we know it's been happening around when 1323 comes around here the whole game they've been getting 5sec pin counted every single time so essentially they're putting 1323 in a position where the driver is extremely stressed because he has to make a play but it's such a risky play no matter what he does so let's watch what they do here so 321 again weaker drive base so instead of going for the power game as they've been going for the past they're just going to start spinning which is great love that from them um but something that ends up happening is they get too close here 1323 end up getting a tech foul I personally think that if their drive base is fully operational they react fast enough to not get that Tech foul but again something you should keep in mind when you're playing defense just try to stay a little bit away but they've been doing great at voiding penalties so far so I'm going to put that one on the drive BAS rather than the driver so 23 seconds let's watch the clock hit 20 so 20 seconds right here we're down three points we have an amp cycle going if 1323 and 254 get two notes in there during that amp cycle this match is very very close if 1323 ends up getting a stage penalty this match is over so let's and 1323 is going to need to get another note so let's see what happens here 1323 and a gambling under the stage I personally dislike this play a lot um I don't I think that if team scream is not lining up for their climb here and is just looking at 1323 then they're jumping this and 1323 is just lost their team the game so something else that we want to notice here is 294 actually is slipping in through here and 294 this is going to come very in become very interesting later uh in this last phase of the game the end game is going to be become very interesting because 294 is going to end up getting pinned by 321 and I'll explain later but let's watch 1323 here for a second so they pass a note and currently 85 to 87 so the situation is orbit has a note these guys are about to go trap 1323 wants to win this match they need to go trap there is a note here and there's a note here here 1323 currently does have a note as we just saw them pass one over so they're going to go gamble for this note hope they don't hit team scream and what ends up happening is they they hit him and this essentially is lost 1323 of the game because this point this current two-point Advantage now become a became a negative eight point deficit and those negative eight points you could have made in your stage climb right because we have five points for trap and three points for climb but team scream also picked up that note that 1323 is going for and it's tough so 321 here their job with that stage penalty is just let's not lose this game we just have to keep our teammates from losing this game and so what ends up happening here is if we watch 1323 they're going to end up climbing here 254 is going to climb here so 294 currently is stuck over here and right now the situation behind the dry station is okay we're two points down to their we're 85 down to their 87 two points is just one note what orbit is going to choose to do in this last 14 seconds is we're going to go gun for a note okay so 321 you guys have to make sure that we can't get hit when we're gunning for the note so 321 is like okay let's do that let's just remove 294 from threatening orbit because if 294 ends up pushing orbit into the stage zone They in their minds that's essentially the game lost because again these guys all have climbs that they can use and if Orbit's going for that note that means that they're probably not going to be able to get that last second clim so 321 here absolutely needs to hold up against 294 and they do so perfectly so let's watch them here so 321 flat on flat whenever 294 tries to rotate immediately rotating back and here we see 294 okay we got a little bit of Leverage but what is 321 been doing the whole match they've been using the wall to their advantage and they do it again look at this 294 almost gets past them but 321 knows where is 294 going to go if they try to go to their left they can't so let's just rotate from the right because we don't have to worry about their left and so they end up in this position where similar to when they played against 1323 we have our Corner against their flat and they're stuck against the wall and they can't do anything their only option is to back up and try to go around from here which if you're going around from there I mean there's a solid chance that someone hits you in orbits right there you might just get slammed in and lose your team the game or you just have to sit and take the penalty I say sorry take the pin and just hope that you're able to get to your park or climb in time so we'll see right three 321 again pinned and orbit you can see coming here all the way back once Orbit's passed 321 is able to get out and they go for the park but it doesn't even matter because orbit has that note orbit has the park 294 is not going to be able to score enough with their single point and it's just beautiful defense to win them the match great job by 321 limiting madtown to about five Cycles when they're fully functioning love to see that from three 21 great job understanding the use of the wall in pinning people as well as barely playing on the edge of penalties I this is just perfect defense stuff that you can take away from this make sure to always have your bumpers if there's a choke point make sure that your bumpers as a swerve Drive are always parallel with wherever they're coming in from right so if a robot's coming in I we saw 1323 do it some of the best in the world against just a drive base and they couldn't do anything because of the bumper to bumper contact that 321 constantly was having being played and again make sure that if you're playing defense and there's multiple avenues that opponent can you go through through a choold just make sure you're rotating that swerve Drive anytime you rotate that swerve drive your bumper contact change right from here to the stage that's a single like 90 degree rotation and you're instantly defending two different choke points at once so great job by 321 understanding the basics of Defense of let's utilize those pin counts to the fullest and also understanding the Nuance of hey if they're against this wall they can't do anything so all in all great job by 321 absolutely deserved to win this Einstein's playoffs in my opinion 100% the MVP hats off to them [Music]
