The Deliverance- Movie Review

so the Deliverance for me was a movie of two halves the first half was really good and I mean honestly great it had great in-depth storytelling character development and from a Netflix film this man over here was very surprised and then we got into the second half I was like oh this is Netflix through and through and that was [ __ ] terrible I think the horror movie sides of things killed the film because I was more than happy leaned into the film without it being all this horror movie Exorcist [ __ ] that he end up turning into honestly this just reminds me of exus 2 like the start of it is [ __ ] great and then you get into the second half and you just think this is [ __ ] dire He's Mine He's chosen me pazuzu's Reagan is the only Reagan yeah they really should have just left that franchise as a standal movie let's be honest also I just think this movie would have worked better not being a horror movie we mentioned it earlier on but I think I want to go into more details about that because the horror stuff just felt like a huge distraction the exorcisms and stuff and whatever in the second half and and even in the first half of the film was something I didn't care about that's not what I was interested in when I banged on the film that was my original intention to and all the Great Horror stuff but it weren't a horror film it didn't feel like a horror film in that first hour it felt like great character development great story of a single mom having to take care of three children whilst having Social Services looking over her shoulder because it looks like she might be abusing the kids and she's got got a drinking problem she's also the only bread winner in the house she has to take care of her mother's uh chemotherapy and everything like that and it was just like you could see the pressure on her shoulders and moving into a new house as well these things were just so great and having the dad being sort of the main reason why it looks like she might be drinking or might have been the way that they broke up they didn't really go into much detail on the dad side of stuff but it seemed to me that he moved away because of that reason or might have been a different reason that's the only negative side of the film in this first half that they didn't go into more of who that Dad was was was he a nice person obviously it seemed to be because the kids loved him and the kids didn't really get along with her with the mother in the start of the film because they didn't like her because she abused them she was shouting at them all the time and they almost felt scared of it at times and I think that was the great part of the story where you went that is the basis where you could have built a whole film around never mind this horrorishalloween Jimmy that's it yeah The Possession based stuff was just [ __ ] poor any word that you want to use in a negative sense this was just terrible I mean it just felt like copied and pasted from every possession based exorcism movie and that annoys me because it's like why didn't you try to create something new and if you are going down that possession based stuff make it feel dramatic make it feel like you're not going to fall asleep during it and I did honestly feel like falling asleep during the second half I don't think it did anything to further the character development sides of stuff that they built in the first half they interesting enough they caught my attention that first half all you had to do was keep my attention for one more hour or the film was too long and you just need it to be half an hour longer whatever it was that transition from the first half to the second half was terrible and the second half did not take it away and run with it and I think that's where the movie failed in my opinion he weren't the first half it weren't the Builder it weren't the character development it wasn't necessarily the story it was how they forced this horror Sider stuff into the film then had to make up most of the ground in the horish side of stuff because in the first half there's little things like there's flies uh the kids walking around at night on his own sort of like sleepwalking and they're going into these weird transfers but you're still hooked into it you you're still feeling like oh there's still a good film here somewhere in that uh chaos and in the second half it didn't do anything of that The Possession based stuff was crap unwatchable and just felt mediocre the ending was predictable as I thought it would be as the kids get taken away from her uh from her because obviously it looked like she'd been beating the kids even though at the start of the film she was towards the end in the film she wasn't beating the kids it was this demon ghoul stuff uh that was possessing them and causing damage to their bodies and bruises and whatever and I think then it was great seeing how she moved away from from that house went back to her sisters or cousins or whatever house and then it showed year like a few months later or a year later or so many years later the the kids then rejoined her again and they they moved together to Philly and I think they moved back with their dad so like I said if you're thinking about watching this film watch it for the drama side stuff the entertainment part in the first hour and the really great storytelling but if you think about watching this movie as a horror fan and uh from a horror movie perspective it is very [ __ ] and very poor so I won't watch it for the horror side
