IT HAPPENED EARLIER THIS MORNING ABOUT AN HOUR AGO. 10 ON YOUR SIDE'S NICK BROADWAY JOINS US NOW FROM THE SCENE. NIC, WHAT ARE YOU SEEING AND WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED? >> SO JUST MOMENTS AGO, THERE IS A SCHOOL BUS BEHIND THE POLICE TAPE RIGHT HERE. AND AS FAR AS WE'RE ABLE TO TELL THAT BUS AND JUST RECENTLY PULLED AWAY, OFFICER ON ON SCENE TOLD US THAT THERE WERE STILL KIDS ON THAT SCHOOL BUS. OF COURSE THEY ARE SAFE. THERE ARE PLENTY OF COPS HERE AT THE MOMENT. THERE'S A LOT OF SQUAD CARS PLAYED. INVESTIGATORS TAKING A LOOK INTO SEEING WHAT HAPPENED HERE FROM WHAT'S BEEN CONFIRMED SO FAR FROM POLICE CHIEF STEVE DREW IS SAYING THAT A 15 YEAR-OLD WAS SHOT. WE'RE STILL CHECKING ON THE INJURIES. THE CONDITION OF THAT 15 YEAR-OLD. AND WE'RE ALSO IN IN TOUCH WITH THE NEWPORT NEWS PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT TO FIGURE WHAT'S COOL THAT VICTIM MAY HAVE MADE IN ATTENDING AT THE TIME. SO THEY DID SAYING THAT THIS IS A SAD SITUATION THERE. PROTOCOLS AS USUAL FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS. THERE'S A SUPPORT TEAM AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF. AND AGAIN, THIS IS HAPPENING AT THIS INTERSECTION OF 16TH AND GUARD RIVAL STEP OF THE WAY. YOU CAN GET A LOOK AT WHAT'S GOING ON. SO AGAIN, THE SCHOOL BUSTED RECENTLY PULL AWAY, BUT STILL A LOT OF OFFICERS INVESTIGATE WHAT HAPPENED. THE CRIME TAPE HAS CLOSED OFF A GOOD PORTION OF THE STREET. THIS IS NEAR DISCOVERY STEM ACADEMY, AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL JUST ABOUT A COUPLE BLOCKS NORTH OF HERE. JUST FOR SOME CONTEXT TO WHERE THIS IS NOT TOO FAR FROM MONITOR MERRIMAC IN CLOSE TO THE WATER.
