Meantime, on the field between these two A L MVP candidates, Seth Lugo was the star seven shutout innings. 10 strikeouts. He allowed three hits, didn't allow a hard hit ball until the sixth inning. This is a guy who played for the Mets for years. So three hard hit balls all game R A nine war, he was in the lead , he slid back. Now, he, he still leads the league in innings pitched. He has 100 and 93 innings. He has a two point 94, a al, he's 34 and look, he's, now he's behind sale overall and Zack Wheeler, but he's number one in the American League 5.7 tied with Tarik Skubal. And I mean, what, what an arsenal that he showed against the Yankees last night and aaron Boone said as much, that was the best, most impressive start that he, that the Yankees had faced. Look, I've known Seth a long time. He was a reliever that always wanted to start, got the opportunity when he signed with San Diego and certainly what he's doing with Kansas City, we're talking about Bobby Witt Junior, what he's meant to this team that looks like they're on the verge of playoff uh innings matter to me. Uh You know, when it comes down to, it's gonna be school or, or Lugo, I think we circle that date last night at Yankee Stadium of his dominating performance that Lugo had last night, uh multiple pitches. He got 78 different pitches and he uses them um really smart now he's become AAA cerebral guy but still has plenty of stuff with velocity. They're all of his pitches. It's uh I don't know how, I don't know how they end up uh calling all these because you only have so many fingers, I guess you got more buttons. Now. Um Look, I, I think it's gonna be interesting and if he goes down the stretch with three more and it's similar to that, there is a real conversation, but I think Scoble has it right now. You know what was fascinating on that list you showed initially, Lugo was third. Rinaldo Lopez was fifth. Those are two converted relievers. Michael King might get down ballot votes for cy nl Cy Young. Another guy Jordan Hicks was doing it well until they took it out. I wonder if we're gonna see more of that this off season where guy raises his hand and say I got three pitches. I got four pitches. I too was around like al Seth Lugo, what a great guy to cover uh frustrated. I don't think there's a more impressive stat in the major leagues than that. He leads the majors in innings. He's at 100 and 93. The Mets did not think he had the durability to be a starting pitcher. That's why he gets away from them and he becomes a starting pitcher. He's leading the majors in innings and doing it at such a high level. It's so impressive and he's doing it for a team without a really a great bullpen even after making some trades. So again, I know Cy Young isn't about value, so to speak. It's supposed to be just pure, who's the best pitcher. But think about the value of innings when you don't have a very good bullpen. And so he, and he's saving whatever good bullpen is for the next guy. He always, he always knew how to pitch. That's a funny thing that he was a pitcher who was pitching in the, but you're right that there's very few like for the Royals to make the jump that they did. They need these two key performers and they absolutely have them. Lugo. And again, showcase game is tonight and I would just say like they went from 100 6 wins to looking like they're gonna make the playoffs. You throw, Seth Lugo and, and Reagan's who's going tonight, you could win that two out of three. Like it's not just some little story. They, I don't know that they could win rounds, but they could win a round. No question. That's gonna showcase game tonight coming your way from Yankee Stadium.
