okay now let's talk about the top story lines here for this football game that will start in about 40 minutes Atlanta versus the Pittsburgh Steelers of course Arthur Smith the new Steelers OC and his first game calling plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers travels to his old home stadium to take on the team that fired him just a few months ago so here is their profile here of course Rahe Morris their new head coach in Atlanta good friends with Mike Tomlin they worked together uh back in the John guden days there in Tampa Bay and then they brought in the hot shot McVey offensive play caller Zack Robinson who who comes from the third generation of the West Coast so expect to see a lot of M McVey style Concepts three wide receivers on the field outside Zone flood Concepts backside digs a lot of that stuff for the Falcons offense today and then defensively we really don't know what new defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake and head coach Raheem Morris are going to do Morris has run a lot of different types of schemes he ran a fangio quarters style of Defense in La so maybe that's what they shift to here but with Morris's history I think that they're going to shift in more hold this defense into what they think fits best with their personnel so it'll be very interesting to see what their defense looks like today okay we got another Super Chat coming in from Chief and let's go the Pittsburgh Steelers Russell Wilson will be out today um and that is obviously something that he didn't want to do he probably wanted to play today because he knows that his job is on the line and he can't control his own destiny at this point we'll talk about Justin Fields here in just a second but he uh definitely has a great opportunity in front of him today also starting guard Isaac sealo will be out with a peck injury Roman Wilson still dealing with his ankle injury that he suffered in the beginning of training camp and then Logan Lee uh is also going to be out today um no not Logan Lee Dean no actually yes Logan Lee Dean Lowry is uh inactive today though yes yes okay so let's get to the story lines here guys because there's a lot of very interesting story lines heading into the season here first one that I want to talk about Will Justin Fields takeover all right not only just take over this game but take over this Steelers team and make it his own cuz he definitely has an opportunity to do that today there's no question about it Justin Fields uh is going to be somebody that is going to probably run the football a lot there's going to be a lot of rpos uh Mike Tomlin has said that the game plan really doesn't change if Justin Fields is the starter uh as opposed to Russell Wilson make no mistake this game plan is definitely going to change because you got a lot more stuff you can do in the QB run game I think that Justin Fields is a much better RPO passer than Russell Wilson is so I'd expect to see a lot more QB Run game and i' expect to see a lot more a lot more RPO action from the Steelers offense today than what they would have done uh if Russell Wilson would have started this football game and I'll also mention here the last time Justin Fields played the Atlanta Falcons it was week 17 of last season now obviously Atlanta's defense they didn't have Matt judon they didn't have Justin Simmons like they they had played a completely different game the last time he went up against this group he he he had one of the best games of his career over 300 total yards of offense two total touchdowns no picks had some really impressive throws and runs in that football game in Chicago and again and actually guys this was in the elements it was snowing it was windy in Chicago late in the season and he put up those kinds of numbers so Justin had arguably the best game of his pro career against this defense and now he's going to be playing a game 35 minutes outside of where he grew up uh to start his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers I'm very excited to see what he's going to be able to do now I think the big X Factor in this football game is whether or not the offensive line is going to hold up and whether they can create success for the Run game because the Run game is going to be the foundation of this offense whether it's Russell Wilson or whether it's Justin Fields you have to have a solid foundation in Arthur Smith's style of offense and there's definitely a lot of question marks I'd say out of the four starting offensive linemen today the only one I feel 100% confident in at this point is James Daniels okay so that is definitely something that I'm concerned about Dan Moore Jr had a really good preseason but he's not been so good in the regular season in the past Spencer Anderson is completely an unproven product Zack Frasier is a rookie playing in his first ever NFL game and then broadrick Jones had a really bad preseason really hoping that he can hold up against Matthew judon which is our third top storyline today can brri Jones hang with Matthew judon who the last time where he had a fully healthy season back in 2022 was one of the best Edge rushers in football now judon pretty much missed the entire 2023 season with an injury he's back now how good is he going to be I guess we'll have to see but brri Jones is definitely going to be an X Factor in this one in pass protection when the Steelers need to throw the football and then when it comes to the the passing game here does George Pickins get any help because you got AJ Terrell that's going to be Ling lining up against George Pickins Terrell is one of the best cover Corners in the National Football League today he's going to be shadowing Pickins all day long so one of these other receivers is going to have to step up Roman Wilson is out with an injury okay so he's not going to be a part of the mix so van Jefferson Calvin Austin the third Scotty Miller Ben scanic are going to be the other options plus you got Pat fouth and the other tight ends that could make an impact today I think somebody in the passing game not named George Pickins needs to make an impact in this one I my eye on Van Jefferson personally now still to come here more lines and linebacking groups in my opinion in football versus B John Robinson and the Falcons Run game they have a very very good um uh run blocking offensive line arguably the best in football and we know how Dynamic BJ Robinson can be so if bjn in that run game is going for Atlanta this is going to be a really tough team in Atlanta to stop defensively today but the Steelers front s is no joke I'm very excited to see that match up today another big storyline is which cam Hayward do we get do we get kind of the reduced version that we saw from him last year or do we we see what he was doing back in 2022 when he was still playing like an All Pro Caliber defensive tackle uh he says he's back to fully healthy uh after getting groin surgery this off season just signed that new extension so obviously the Steelers feel good about him but we have to see it on film today I'm hoping cam Hayward has a big one here to start his 2024 campaign another big question mark and probably the only big question mark I have on the defensive side of the ball for the first half of the Season how does beanie Bishop Jr hold up cuz he really only played first team reps in one preseason game and it was that game against the Houston Texans and he kind of got cooked all right so he is going to be your starting slot heading into this football game and you know Darnell money if he plays in the slot is weapons and right now if it wasn't for a [ __ ] call from the refs you'd only give up three points in this entire half to that football team that is a hell of an accomplishment and it shows that this Steelers defense is going to be one of the best in football this year they were dominant in that first half dominant and I love to see that I don't think that they're going to unless there's more terrible refereeing I honestly don't see the Steelers giving up more than six or seven points in this second half so that means Justin fields and the Steelers all they need to do is score like a touchdown and a field goal two touchdowns maybe and they're going to be in good shape to win this football game and with the way they were moving the football with the way George Pickins is playing in this one um with the way Naji Harris is rushing the football he's rushing with great great intentionality and demeanor to start this football game man I like the way Mike Tomlin has this team playing after a running into the kicker uh really didn't work out well for cam Johnson okay so watch out for a potential signing this week maybe Presley the Harvin III comes bad God forbid um or they bring in somebody else but hopefully Cam's okay and his season isn't over so now uh we can go to our first game ball here and we mentioned Chris Boswell he is the MVP of this football game plain and simply okay Chris Boswell made six field goals in this game three of them from 50 plus and he had to come in as emergency kicker or punter I should say and was actually a good punt all right so big kudos to Chris Boswell if Boswell isn't as successful as he was today Steelers don't win the football game plain and simply he showed up he was the Big Man on Campus in Pittsburgh and today was all about him but then I'll also give a game ball to Justin Fields his first start in a Pittsburgh Steelers uniform and although it wasn't perfect the offense wasn't finishing drives in this one didn't have a single touchdown in the game fields made some big throws and some big runs in very weighty moments all right I'm talking about a bomb that George Pickins to set up a field goal before halftime I'm talking about a massive Run play on a third down at the end of the game to really be able to milk the clock the way the Steelers were able to Justin Fields wasn't perfect in this game you could tell the Steelers were limiting the types of play calls that they were going to call for him just because he's not the best pure dropback passer it was a lot of one read to check down or one read to run for Justin today but honestly uh it worked it worked enough to to make a functional offense for the Pittsburgh Steelers uh so because it's his first win as a Pittsburgh Steeler starting quarterback he gets a game ball and then TJ watt man we'll talk about TJ watt a little bit later in the show as well but this man I mean the the statline that he put up today doesn't do justice as to how dominant this guy was I mean two forced fumbles for him were taken off the board one by a penalty actually two by penalties one of them was just a perfectly timed snap that was so good it was called off sides by the def by by the referees so DJ Watt I think proved today that he is not only the best defensive player on the planet but in my opinion the best football player on the planet Earth today at any position I think he's that good he was winning at the line of scrimmage immediately against Caleb McGary a really good right tackle in this league and Kur cousins just couldn't get away from him man all pro player and he showed that level of play today then Dante Jackson yes he dropped an interception early in the game and yes he took away a just a TJ watt forced fumble in a key moment uh by doing a face mask on darn Al Mooney but he had a big interception in the second half I thought he was really good in coverage all day long and he put himself in position to make plays consistently so very quickly but like I said it's nice to have Justin fields in relief it's nice to know that your backup quarterback maybe isn't the most consistent from the pocket but damn he is dynamic as a rusher he makes big plays when big plays need to be made he can throw those you can do a lot of stuff creatively on rollouts uh and bootlegs with him that you can't do with other quarterbacks I mean there's a lot of interesting things you can do it justtin Fields uh so Russ definitely has the pressure on them heading into next week then we go to uh the Pittsburgh Steelers defense and I'm ready to say it man I said it coming into the Year my one of my bold predictions was this would be be the number one defense in the world and they definitely lived up to that hype today I mean this pass rush was constantly in the lap of Kurt Cousins within the first three or four seconds of his drop and then the secondary was phenomenal today too we talked about Joey Porter Jr and Dante Jackson getting the job done and the linebackers was were a lot better than what we've seen in years past as well so I love what this Steelers defense is doing beanie Bishop Jr a little bit of a a little bit of a weakness here and the only weakness I can see with the Steelers defense right now once cam Sutton comes back to play the slot oh my goodness this is going to be a disgusting unit uh so make sure you this guy's an absolute Menace he is a nightmare um and he uh is the Catalyst for the best defense in the world in the Pittsburgh Steelers right now then we got uh B Knicks and it's like you know kurk cousins has been one of the most productive quarterbacks in football for the last decade and he looked terrible today playing simply this Atlanta offense should have only scored three points just imagine what B knck is going to do next week right it's a worse offensive roster next week in the Denver Broncos you got a rookie quarterback that has never seen this kind of pass rush in his life
