Donald Trump has already been on the debate stage this election kamla Harris is set to face the tough questions tonight live when they come face to face for their first presidential debate fugitive Manhunt know everybody's scared um this is a very dangerous situation the latest on the desperate search for the suspect accused of opening fire on a dozen cars migrant surge it is so unsafe I have Jan Jeff coat it is Tuesday September 10th and it is round two tonight for Donald Trump at the first for kamla Harris's presidential election we are now just 56 days away and likely looking at the only debate between Trump and Harris when they do face off tonight Matt Gala is covering the top issues for voters and the latest polling numbers we start though this morning with Mark Bole at the live desk with what the nominees can expect when they take the stage good morning to you Jan good morning tonight's debate could be the only one between the two candidates so clearly a lot on the line for both both trying to win over those few undecided voters left out there across the country both sides taking very different approaches to Preparing a live look here to my left this is Pittsburgh that is where kamla Harris has spent the past four days at the Omni Hotel there during what's being described as an intensive debate Camp her AIDS put up a mock setup with a layout of the debate studio and went through rigorous hours of rehearsed questions at the same time Donald Trump opted for policy sessions with his AIDS at his Bedminster Golf Club in New Jersey a live look over Philadelphia where the debate will happen at 9:00 p.m. Eastern as far as the rules this is what it'll look like the candidates microphones will be muted when it's not their turn to talk something the Harris team asked to change but that rule will stay in place there will be no studio audience and both candidates will not be allowed to have notes or question each other directly after tonight no other presidential debates are set so it's really the only chance for Trump and Harris to distinguish themselves when it comes to key issues but we are still looking ahead to the VP candidate Faceoff tomorrow morning and online anytime at the national desk.com all right Mark thank you and our team coverage does continue with the national desks Matt Gala taking a look at the top issues and the latest numbers which show Harris losing ground in the Marquee debate matchup ahead of the November election it's Donald Trump versus kamla Harris it could be the only time the vice president and former president face off with no more currently scheduled thank you very much Wisconsin Trump was on the trail in Wisconsin ahead of Tuesday night they're lying cheating thieving hoaxing and plotting will come to an end with Harris taking a break from debate prep in Pittsburgh are you ready mam vice president ready Harris will likely have to defend flip-flops from past stances axios identified nine areas where she's reportedly changed including originally opposing a border wall no longer opposing a fracking ban and backing off Medicare for all her campaign website added an issues page ahead of the debate after critics claimed she wasn't clear on her stances it took seven weeks since President Joe Biden dropped his re-election bid before the Harris team put the page up on the campaign website Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was asked over the weekend if Harris abandoned Progressive positions no I don't think she's abandoning her ideals I think she's trying to be pragmatic and doing what she thinks is right in order to win the election National polling averages have the race at a dead heat between the two candidates a New York Times Sienna poll released on the eve of the debate has Trump up one over Harris well within the margin of error and the closest it's ever been between two candidates with just 8 weeks to go before an election the debate could be the last chance to shift the electorate you're going to see the same Donald Trump that you saw a couple of months ago in Georgia with Joe Biden he's going to be calm cool and collected he's going to set up the contrast between the disastrous administration of kamla Harris and Joe Biden KLA Harris is going to demonstrate why she's going to be the next president I think she's going to have an excellent command of the issues she's going to be able to draw contrast with Donald Trump and when the dust settles on Tuesday night it will have been the seventh time that Donald Trump has appeared on the big stage for a general election debate the most ever in history reporting in Washington I'm Matt Gela critics will also be looking closely at just how ABC News will balance the debate questions one news Watchdog group followed ABC's World News Tonight with debate moderator David mure the media Research Center found that 100% of its coverage of KLA Harris has been positive while 93% of its coverage of Donald Trump has been negative voters in New Hampshire meantime Delaware and Rhode Island will cast their ballots today in the last round of state and Congressional primaries pet keeping a close eye on the homes raided and their phones confiscated developing now Congress returned to Capitol Hill and they're already torn over a battle between the budget and efforts to ensure only US citizens are registered to vote National desks Kayla Gaskins reports feelings of deja vu in Washington this week lawmakers back in town after a long summer recess their return comes with yet another threat of a government shutdown I mean this is so ridiculous I don't think there's going to be a shutdown uh we'll see the to-do list is long and time is short just 13 legislative days to agree on and pass a spending plan on Friday the House GOP unveiling a 46 page stop Gap plan that would fund the government through March of 2025 but attached to the bill is the save act a law requiring stricter proof of citizenship requirements for voting it essentially is a national voter ID and I would think both parties and everybody would be interested in protecting the Integrity of the ballot and making sure that people only legally qualified to vote do so but it's become a partisan issue which is amazing to me Democrats quick to knock the plan Republicans basically just want to play political games and tie the future of our economy and real people's jobs to these horrific plans that really get us and do nothing for the actual country or for actual voting security Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer responding with a statement saying avoiding a government shutdown requires bipartisanship not a bill drawn up by one party Schumer goes on to warn speaker Mike Johnson is making the same mistakes as his predecessor Kevin McCarthy wasting precious Time by catering to the hard magar right the current funding for the federal government expires September 30th in Washington I'm Kayla Gaskins the to poisly present congress's highest honor the Congressional gold medal of the 13 US service members who were killed during the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan at the same time a bitter battle over who's to blame continues here in DC House Republicans releasing a scathing report Sunday blaming President Biden who signed the legislation for the withdrawal back in December of 2021 GOP lawmakers say he and his administration need to face accountability for the deaths of those 13 troops as well as the more than 170 Afghans who were killed in a suicide bombing at the aby's gate near cobbles airport Democrats however call the house of report partisan and are casting blame on former president Donald Trump in a statement house Speaker Mike Johnson writing this quote we must not allow the Biden Harris Administration to rewrite history the families of the 13 Fallen service members and the Allies we abandon in Afghanistan deserve better families of the 13 service members will attend today's ceremony and top Republican and Democratic leaders for both the House and Senate are expected to speak turning now to the Border crisis the ice office in Baltimore arrested their 153rd illegal migrant sex offender this fiscal year 36-year-old Honduran National Manda Maya was convicted of rape in Maryland in 2009 was sentenced and then deported in 2016 but he illegally reentered the US and deported yet again in 2018 ice was able to catch him last month after he entered the us legally yet again Texas governor Greg Abbott says he will fight the Biden Harris Administration over a part of the Southern border it's called front land and it's in the Rio Grand River now Texas authorities say the Island used to be covered with vegetation allowing Mexican cartels to use it to hide illegal activities well Texas state troopers and National Guard took over that Island cleared it cutting cartel activity to zero Governor Abbott says he will not comply with the Biden Harris administration's demands to return the island to its prior condition one small American town that has taken on thousands of illegal migrants is becoming a flash point in the Border crisis residents in Springfield Ohio a manufacturing Hub between Columbus and Dayton have seen a major surge in a recent article titled how an Ohio Town landed in the middle of the immigration debate the New York Times wrote during the last census and 2020 a little more than 58,000 people lived in Springfield now City officials estimate that as many as 20,000 Haitians have arrived most of them since the pandemic and that's bringing attention to Springfield residents concerns at City Council meetings but it is so unsafe I have men that cannot speak English in my front yard screaming at me throwing mattresses in my front yard throwing trash in my front yard and I can't I look at me I weigh 95 pounds I couldn't defend myself if I had to I went out of this town I am sorry please give me a reason to stay these Haitians are running into trash cans they're running into buildings they're running into they flipping cars in the middle of the street they're in the park grabbing up Ducks by their neck and cutting their head off and walking off with them and and eating them after getting calls and emails from Resident Senator JD Vance wrote months ago I raised the issue of Haitian illegal immigrants trining social services and generally causing chaos All Over Springfield reports now show that people have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn't be in this country where is our borders are yesterday Ohio attorney general d y said he will take legal action to stop the federal government from sending migrants to Ohio unrestricted national desk kaisha Hancock spoke to him after taking a trip to Springfield I had somebody else tell me that where he lives he had Haitian neighbors and just how they you know put their trash out and they were dirty after hearing complaints from Springfield residents about Haitian immigrants killing and eating people's pets I reached out to the city of Springfield and received a statement saying we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed injured or abused by individuals within the Immigrant Community resident Jeff Allen tells me he's Heard lots of things but there's one major complaint the community has been talking about I think the main thing that uh people are concerned about is is the uh is the uh the the driving the reckless driving uh not knowing how to drive and being on the streets and and and the amount of accidents that have been occurring attorney general Dave yo has already directed his office to make a plan to tackle the reported influx of immigrants coming into the City of Springfield he tells me the problem is not who is coming but rather how many and how that's impacting the city's Services anybody that's been to the doctor or you know had to go to an ER recently knows that we don't have extra capacity just laying around this much of an addition to any town will cause it to buckle the fact that we get no communication no coordination no planning out of the federal government these people just show up uh has put an a strain that is going to break this community and that was kaiesha hanock reporting for us this morning the migrant influx in Springfield first got national attention just over a year ago after a deadly school bus crash authorities say a Haitian migrant crossed over the center line crashing into the Northwestern local school bus killing an 11-year-old boy and injuring 23 other children that migrant hermano Joseph did not have a valid driver's license and was sentenced to 9 years for vehicular homicide former president Trump also calling out vice president Harris who pushed to bring Haitian migrants to the us a couple of years ago starting with our Administration we gave TPS temporary protected status to Haitian migrants 555,000 and then more recently we extended temporary protected status to over a 100,000 patient migrants for that very reason that they need support Trump wrote VOA Harris if you want this to happen to your neighborhood with a clip showing the vice president on The View back in 2021 we're now seeing police body camera video when Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic stop Hill was driving near the stadium ahead of the dolphin season opener Sun day when Miami day police pulled him over and asked him to step out of his car hey keep your window [Music] down hey keep your window down keep your window down I'm going to get you out of the car as a matter of fact get out of the car give me give me your ass get out of the car give me your ass we break that freaking window get out of the car get out of the car right now we're not playing this game get out get out get out get out get out what part of do you understand the president of South Florida's police Union defended those officers writing Hill caused a great risk of danger to the public with his driving and was uncooperative the Dolphins released a lengthy statement commending the officers for releasing the footage but condemned the officer's actions and defended Hill I guess the officers they felt like I wasn't doing it on they timing but i w i I was doing it but you know man I'm I'm still kind of shell shock from it man like I'm I'm embarrassed Hill was sided for reckless driving and a seat Bel violation before he was released at the scene one of the officers has been reassigned to administrative duties as that investigation continues former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo set to testify today before Congress the alleged cover up to hide mistak that endangered thousands of nursing home residents is the topic we're back in 90 [Music] seconds e e welcome back today former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is scheduled to testify to Congress over alleged mishandling of the covid-19 pandemic members of a GOP Le house select committee a subcommittee releasing a report ahead of today's testimony that accuses Cuomo of staging a cover up to high mistakes that endangered nursing home residents in March of 2020 he issued a directive that barred nursing homes from refusing to accept patients because they had covid-19 critics say it exposed thousands of vulnerable elderly people to the virus before it was resented more than 9,000 recovering coronavirus patients were released from hospitals into nursing homes under that directive there were about 15,000 covid-19 deaths among long-term care residents in New York far more than the initial number disclosed that committee found Cuomo and his top AIDS tried to deflect blame for the directive by ordering up an unscientific report concluding that directive likely had little impact on fatalities quomo testified before the subcommittee in June behind closed doors he has denied any wrongdoing head in our next half hour big Tech on trial Google facing a blockbuster Anti-Trust lawsuit against the government just weeks after another case came to a close and and on alert high temperatures and dry conditions Fanning wildfires across the West Coast forcing thousands of evacuations this morning first here's a look at America's news and weather where you [Music] live I'm meteorologist Troy Tech trial Google back in court accused of dominating the advertising space the ruling on the way that could change what you see while browsing online plus it's very surreal the only word I can come up with the Flames crested the hill back over there so we said okay let's get out of here before they you know actually come and just force us out forc out evacuation orders in place across several Western States whose dry conditions make it harder for Crews to battle those fast moving wildfires and high stakes debate vice president Harris and former president Trump facing off for the first and possibly only time tonight with the election now less than two months away and thanks for joining us you are watching the national desk America's news now I'm Jan Jeff coat it is Tuesday September 10th and we are just hours away from the presidential debate the pressure on VP Harris after the release of some new polling showing her early lead now completely gone a New York Times n Sienna College poll has Trump with his first lead over Harris 48 to 47% the survey found 28% of Voters said they need to know more about Harris compared to just 9% for Trump the New York Times highlighting the pressure on Harris writing heading into the high stakes debate on Tuesday the mood in the party remains upbeat but with polls looking tight concerns are starting to seep in Mark Bole is at the live desk following the latest on the debate including the rules and how the candidates are getting ready good morning to you Jan good morning to you America is watching tonight's debate could be the only one between the two candidates you mentioned that so a lot of the line here as both try to win over undecided voters both sides taking very different approaches to Preparing as well live look this morning over Pittsburgh this is where KLA Harris has spent the past 4 days St at the hotel the Omni there during an intensive debate Camp if you will her AIDS put up a mock setup with a layout of the debate studio and went through rigorous hours of rehearse questions at the same time Donald Trump opted for policy sessions with AIDS at his Bedminster Golf Club there in New Jersey a live look had asked to change but that rule will stay in place there will be no studio audience and candidates will not be allowed to have notes or to question each other directly after tonight no other presidential debate has been set as of now so it's really the only chance for Trump and Harris to distinguish themselves when it comes to these key issues Americans are wanting to hear from them but we are still looking ahead to the VP candidate Faceoff between Tim Walls and JD Vance that is set for October first hosted by CBS News look for updates and reaction to tonight's debate here at the live desb tonight and of course tomorrow morning and online anytime at the national.com all right Mark thank you both candidates have different strategies going into tonight's debate Harris has spent the past few days with her AIDS creating a mock setup and even casting a trump standin while Trump a veteran now on the debate stage has spent most of his time campaigning now he has gotten some help with debate prep from a few of his allies including former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi gabard who ran as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020 he's not focused on trying to get under under her skin he really is focused on the issues that matter most to the American people uh president Trump is in great spirits he is looking forward to this debate uh you can imagine it's frustrating for any of us to watch and see the lies that are being sold about kamla Harris and how much she's getting a free pass another former presidential candidate calling out Harris ahead of the debate as well Nikki Haley says all Trump has to do is stick to the policies and call out the past three and a half years of the Biden Harris Administration she's already talked about raising taxes where she's talked about rolling back the tax cuts when you look she was the tiebreaking vote on the two biggest inflation drivers we've seen with the American Rescue plan and the inflation reduction act so take her at her word take her at what we've already seen her do and know that you're going to have more of that RFK Jr will be in the debate spin room with VP candidate JD Vance tonight to support Trump after RFK suspended his campaign to endorse Trump last month of his staffers also joined him throwing their support behind Trump yesterday they launched a new super pack aimed at getting Kennedy supporters in swing states to vote for Trump the pack spokesman said he wants to raise $ three5 million dollar to produce and run tv ads in smaller television markets new this morning Direct TV has filed a complaint with the FCC against Disney accusing them of negotiating in bad faith since the beginning of the month Direct TV customers have not been able to watch Disney's channels including ESPN and ABC owned stations and most recently last night's Monday Night Football game the companies are in a disagreement over a new distribution deal that is not seen any progress so far Google facing another Anti-Trust lawsuit over its advertising technology now this comes just a month after a judge declared Google's search engine a monopoly the national desk Jeff Harris reports on the new trial and how it could change what you see online the doj is alleging that Google created another Monopoly but this time on digital advertis ing by obtaining all of the tools to buy sell and display ads they also claim Google controls the ad Exchange Market as well Rebecca Hall allensworth an antitrust professor of Vanderbilt law school tells us Google is being accused of monopolizing the adtech market including the technology that matches online Publishers to advertisers somebody who has a space on a website wants to sell it to an Advertiser and how an Advertiser who has an advertisement they want to go on a website how they would and transact Hall allensworth says by controlling all of the technology the government is claiming Google makes a good bit of money when it arranges sales between Publishers and advertisers Google's accused of taking 30 cents out of every dollar uh in this market that's an awful lot of waste if indeed it's waste and that's what the government says mateline Somerville an attorney at Georgia trial Consulting tells us Google is making the argument that the government's perspective on what qualifies as acceptable practices in the ad Marketplace is outdated it's perfectly acceptable what they're doing because this is how the ad Marketplace works and that essentially the doj hasn't caught up to um the uh new internet industry that we're in when it comes to advertising and marketing but she says if the tech giant is found guilty there is a chance the company could be broken up I think it would still be able to function it would just be sort of an overhaul now this past December Google agreed to pay $700 million to settle a separate antitrust lawsuit which claimed the company forced app makers to use its payment system on its Play Store Marketplace I'm Jeff Harris reporting from Washington Big Lot is filing for chapter 11 after it says high costs and interest rates forced it out of business the retailer is in the process of closing roughly 300 of its 1400 stores and warns more closures could be coming soon the company joins a growing list of well-known retailers hitting financial problems as customers cut back on their spending Straight Ahead this morning election security standof the fight on Capitol Hill to keep our election safe and secure before voters cast their ballots this fall we're acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan joining us next break it all down for us and hazardous air quality alerts out west right now from those raging wildfires that continue they are forcing thousands to flee from their homes the very latest in the brand new images and updates from that scene coming up next e e 39 minutes past the hour and some breaking news to tell you about out of Europe right now the eu's highest court has ruled Apple and Google must pay billions in taxes and fines those rulings represent a major shift in regulations on big Tech Regulators determined that Apple struck illegal deals with the Irish government that allowed the company to pay virtually nothing in taxes on its business in Europe for several years now Apple will pay more than $4 billion to Ireland Apple says the decision effectively allows the EU to impose a double tax on company income that already is tax in the United States in the Google case the court agreed with the commission's 2017 decision to find the company more than $2 billion for giving preferential treatment to its own price comparison shopping service over Rivals Google releasing a statement saying it's disappointed by the ruling but that it had already adjusted its products to comply with the 2017 decision including new designs to steer customers to rival websites since only US citizens can vote in a federal election some members of the House are pushing a bill that would require all voters show proof of citizenship when registering joining us now to discuss this is Mark Morgan the former acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection and visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation morning to you sir great to see you as always Mark why is this bill necessary do you think look once again my good friend chip Roy uh from Texas is just pushing forth a a common sense Bill here's why we need it because the current system is is broke Jan and let me give you an example right now it's legal for states to give illegal aliens state ID cards it's also legal for states to automatically register those same illegal aliens to vote without showing proof of citizenship and lastly it's also legal for states to conduct their elections without showing any form of ID look if you can be intellectually honest and set your political affiliation aside you can't disagree that that system is fraught with Peril and easily exploited for someone the vote that shouldn't vote it's just common sense and the save act closes those loopholes I'll give you an example the 2020 election three states were won by Le decided by less than 45,000 votes which decided the presidency if less than one half of 1% of illegal aliens or foreign Bo citizens voted that would change the outcome of our election it matters CNN is amongst the media Outlets that have now called out VP kamla Harris for featuring Trump's border wall in her campaign video where they found 50 of her tweets criticizing the wall what' you make of this Mark first of all let's keep in mind it was CNN so if you know CNN is criticizing vice president Harris it's got to be bad it is we're literally living in a whole realm of hypocrisy here but look and this also represents there's a lot of talk about her flip-flopping on policies I don't think she's flip-flopping on anything I think she's just saying and doing anything to get elected and in the the the 50 comments over the past you know several years she called this a waste of money she called it uh you know a Trump's vanity wall in her 2019 book she referred to the wall as a monument against everything that she stands but yet in her ad she has not one but two images of the wall including the wall system that we built under President Trump I mean you you just can't make this up and this in my opinion this app actually represents one of the strongest values she hold and that is her ability to act as a chameleon and say and do anything if she can now pretend like she supports the very thing that she said in the past was a monument against everything that she valued that says it all and she says her values have not changed there was an alert that the Venezuelan gang Trend araga which we've been hearing about a lot these days has now been terrorizing a texas-based oil and gas company in fact the FBI sent a warning about these armed gang members who were committing thefts and America's highest producing oil field Mark why isn't this considered a national security threat it should be Jan and I appreciate you bringing up and you and I have talked about this before and it's finally I I'm glad to hear the FBI you know putting some information out there but we we have been talking about this whe whether it's New York uh Texas Colorado the list goes on we are literally seeing because of this administration's open border policies we're seeing the creation of MS13 2.0 spread across this country like like like like a cancer we've seen this before we've been it before and right now as you and I are talking vice president Harris as thear of the Border she actually reinstated a program cbp1 app where individuals from four countries including Venezuela can get online fill out a couple of sentences and fly into one of 45 interior airports in the United States they're also expanding that program now to Mexico so you can get on a bus and they're actually going to drive you to a landport of entry on our Southwest border and here's the big lie no matter how many times they keep saying it does not make a tri we do not have the ability to properly vet everyone we're in counting including those from Venezuela they know it they are intentionally allowing individuals that we do not know their crial background that they could be Venezuela gang members of TDA yet we're still releasing the United States this is absurd it makes no sense especially because as you said before we have no diplomacy so how can we what what what's the Safeguard here where's the checks and balances if you don't have a a diplomatic relationship with that country they're coming from former acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan always great to see you sir thanks for joining us here on the national desk you back have a good day thank you you too Jen right now thousands of residents in Nevada and California both under states of emergency and mandatory evacuation orders as wildfires threaten tens of thousands of buildings this morning we have some new images of the Davis fire here to my right this is just south of the Reno area there and the line fire in the San Bernardino National Forest in Southern California residents are being told told to stay indoors as Wildfire smoke is causing unhealthy and even hazardous air quality in some areas you can see it around the Reno area on your screen and those alerts to the South that we're talking about and here's where we stand right now with the California's line fire burning nearly 26,000 Acres with just 5% contained at this point about 2,000 firefighters and Personnel are battling this one that line fire alone threatening over 36,000 structures many of those are homes and Nevada right now officials say the Davis fire really is a wind driven one and it's burning out of control forcing those horses there to flee growing to about 5,000 Acres no containment and destroying about 14 structures so far tens of thousands are under evacuation notice and these are not the only wildfires out west experts say several fires across California Oregon Washington and Idaho are so large they're forming their own weather and lightning and rainstorms you're seeing some of those here images behind me this morning they say this is a very significant growth situation and wildfires are expected to continue to burn over the next few days this is the national desk America's news now we have reporters all across the country in your neighborhoods covering issues that matter to you from Rhode Island residents outraged over construction noise keeping them up at night to a cyber threat closing schools in Washington state we are taking the PS of America but we started Maryland where a 12-year-old child has been in police custody more than 10 times according to University of Maryland police an officer spotted the 12-year-old riding a stolen electric scooter on a sidewalk here along Guilford Drive last night when the officer approached the trial tried to hide then police spotted a stolen Tesla park nearby and found the car's key fob in the 12-year-old's pocket it was the 10th time campus police have caught the boy with either a stolen car or stolen scooter since March in each case he was quickly released because of his age the case prompting renewed calls for change in the Juvenile Justice laws which also don't allow police to even question a child if his parents are not able to get him to stop acting like a criminal then it's up to the courts to do that construction crews are tearing down the condemned Washington Bridge just started hearing the pounding uh from inside our house Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. this is what people Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was asked over the weekend if Harris abandoned Progressive positions no I don't think she's abandoning her ideals I think she's trying to be pragmatic and doing what she thinks is right in order to win the election National polling averages have the race at a dead heat between the two candidates a New York Times Sienna poll released on the eve of the debate has Trump up one over Harris well within the margin of error and the closest it's ever been between between two candidates with just 8 weeks to go before an election the debate could be the last chance to shift the electorate you're going to see the same Donald Trump that you saw a couple of months ago in Georgia with Joe Biden he's going to be calm cool and collected he's going to set up the contast between the disastrous administration of kamla Harris and Joe Biden KLA Harris is going to demonstrate why she's going to be the next president I think she's going to have an excellent command of the issues between the budget and efforts to ensure only US citizens are registered to vote National desks Kayla Gaskins joins us now live from Capitol Hill Kayla good morning to you how are those negotiations looking at this point well good morning Jan so the to-do list on Capitol Hill is pretty long and time is short just 13 legislative days starting from yesterday for lawmakers to agree on and then pass a spending Plan and there's already a big hurdle on Friday the House GOP unveiling a 46-page stop Gap plan that would fund the government through March of 2025 but attached to the bill is the save act it's a law that would require stricter proof of citizenship requirements for voting many in the GOP support attaching this to the spending plan Democrats though quick to slam it it essentially is a national voter ID and I would think both parties and everybody would be interested in protecting the Integrity of the ballot making sure that people only legally qualified to vote do so but it's become a partisan issue which is amazing to me Republicans basically just want to play political games and tie the future of our economy and real people's jobs to these horrific plans that really get us and do nothing for the actual country or for actual voting security Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer warning speaker Mike Johnson that he's making the same mistakes as his predecessor Kevin McCarthy by quote wasting precious time catering to the hard magga right the current funding for the federal government will expire September 30th live on Capital Hill I'm Kayla Gaskins reporting for small Ohio town is becoming a flash point in the migrant crisis how the state is taking action and then caught on camera what the newly released Bonnie cam video reveals when Dolphins player Tyreek Hill got pulled over and live look at Capitol Hill right now where today Congress will bestow its highest Honor on 13 service members who died during that disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal we'll take present congress's highest honor the Congressional gold medal to 13 service members who were killed during that disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan at the same time a bit a bitter battle over who's to blame continues in Washington House Republicans released a scathing report on Sunday blaming Biden who signed the legislation for the withdrawal back in December of 2021 GOP lawmakers say he and his administration need to face accountability for the deaths of those 13 troops as well as more than 170 Afghans who were killed in a suicide bombing at abig gate near cobbles airport Democrats however call the house support partisan and are casting blame on former president Trump in a statement house Speaker Mike Johnson writing quote we must not allow the Biden Harris Administration to rewrite history the families of the 13 Fallen service members and the Allies we abandon in Afghanistan deserve better families of the 13 service members will attend today's ceremony and top Republican and Democratic leaders for both the house and the Senate are expected to speak mark thank you the ice office in Baltimore arrested their 153rd illegal migrant sex offender this fiscal year 36-year-old had National mday Amayo was convicted of rape in Maryland back in 2009 he was sentenced and then deported in 2016 but then he illegally re-entered the US and was deported again in 2018 ice was able to catch him last month after he entered illegally yet again Texas governor Greg Abbot says he's going to fight the Biden Administration over a part of the Southern border it's called Fronton Island and it's in the Rio Grand River Texas authorities say the Island used to be covered with vegetation allowing Mexican cartels to use it to hide illegal activities then Texas state troopers and National Guard took over the island they cleared it cutting cartel activity to zero Governor Abbott says he will not comply with the Biden Harris administration's demands to return the island to its prior condition one small American Town that's taken on thousands of illegal migrants is becoming a flasho in the Border crisis residents in Springfield Ohio a manufacturing Hub between Columbus and Dayton have seen a major surge in a recent article titled how would Ohio Town landed in the middle of the immigration debate New York Times wrote during the last census in 2020 a little more than 58,000 people lived in Springfield but now City officials estimate that as many as 20,000 Haitians have arrived most of them since the pandemic and that's bringing attention to Springfield residents concerns at City Council meetings but it is so unsafe I have men that cannot speak English in my front yard screaming at me throwing mattresses in my front yard throwing trash in my front yard and I can't I look at me I weigh 95 pounds I couldn't defend myself if I had to I went out of this town I am sorry please give me a reason to stay these Haitians are running into trash cans they're running into buildings they're running into they flipping cars in the middle of the street they're in the park grabbing up Ducks by their neck and cutting their head off and walking off with them and and eating them after getting calls and emails from residents Senator JD Vance wrote months ago I raised the issue of Haitian illegal immigrants draining social services and generally causing chaos All Over Springfield reports now show that people have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn't be in this country where is our borders are and yesterday Ohio attorney general Dave Yos said he will take legal action to stop the federal government from sending migrants to Ohio unrestricted national desk Kasha Hancock spoke to him after taking a trip to Springfield I had somebody else tell me that where he lives he had Haitian neighbors and just how they you know put their trash out and they were dirty after hearing complaints from Springfield residents about Haitian immigrants killing and eating people's pets I reached out to the City of Springfield and received a statement saying we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed injured or abused by individuals within the Immigrant Community resident Jeff Allen tells me he's Heard lots of things but there's one major complaint the community has been talking about I think the main thing that uh people are concerned about is is the uh is the uh the the driving the reckless driving uh not knowing how to drive and being on the streets and and and the amount of accidents that have been occurring attorney general Dave Yos has already directed his office to make a plan to tackle the reported influx of immigrants coming into the City of Springfield he tells me the problem is not who is coming but rather how many and how that's impacting the city's Services anybody that's been to the doctor or you know had to go to an ER recently knows that we don't have extra capacity just laying around this much of an I to any town will cause it to buckle the fact that we get no communication no coordination no planning out of the federal government these people just show up uh has put an a strain that is going to break this community and that was Kasha hanock reporting the migrant influx in Springfield first got national attention just over a year ago after a deadly school bus crash authorities say a Haitian migrant crossed over the center line crashing into the Northwestern local school bus killing an 11-year-old boy and injuring 23 other children the migrant hermano Joseph did not have a valid driver's license and was sentenced to nine years for vehicular homicide former president Trump also calling out vice president Kamala Harris who pushed to bring Haitian migrants to the us a couple of years ago starting with our Administration we gave TPS temporary protected status to Haitian migrants 55,000 and then more recently we extended temporary protected status to to over a 100,000 hatian migrants for that very reason that they need support Trump wrot Vota if you want this to happen to your neighborhood with that clip showing the vice president on the with his driving and was uncooperative the Dolphins released a lengthy statement commending the officers for releasing the footage but condemned the officer's actions and defended Hill I guess officers they felt like I wasn't doing it on they timing but I would I I was doing it but you know man I'm I'm still kind of shell shock from it man like I'm I'm embarrassed Hill was cited for reckless driving and a seat Bel violation before he was released at the scene one of the officers has been reassigned to administrative duties as that investigation continues coming up former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said to testify today before Congress the alleged cover up to high mistakes that endangered thousands of nursing home residents we'll explain in 90 [Music] seconds e e [Music] today former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is scheduled to testify to Congress over alleged mishandling of the covid-19 pandemic members of a GOP Le house select subcommittee released a report ahead of today's testimony that accused Cuomo of staging a cover up to high mistakes that endanger nursing home residents in March of 2020 he issued a directive that barred nursing homes from refusing to accept patients because they had covid-19 critics say it exposed thousands of vulnerable elderly people to the virus before it was rescinded more than 9,000 recovering coronav virus patients were anytime at the national desk.com mark thank you both candidates have differing strategies going into tonight's debate Harris has spent the past few days with her AIDS creating a mock setup and even cast a trump stand in while Trump a veteran now on the debate stage has spent most of his time campaigning he's gotten some help with debate prep with some of his allies including former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi gabard who ran as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020 he's not focused on trying to get under her skin he really is focused on the issues that matter most to the American people uh president Trump is in great spirits he is looking forward to this debate uh you can imagine it's frustrating for any of us to watch and see the lies that are being sold about kamla Harris and how much she's getting a free pass and another former presidential candidate also getting called out and calling out Harris ahead of the debate Nikki Haley says all Trump has to do is stick to the policies and call out the past three and a half years of the Biden Harris Administration he's already talked about raising taxes where she's talked about rolling back the tax cuts when you look she was the tiebreaking vote on the two biggest inflation drivers we've seen with the American Rescue plan and the inflation reduction act so take her at her word take her at what we've already seen her do and know that you're going to have more of that RFK Jr will be in the debate spin room with VP candidate JD Vance tonight to support Trump the national desks Kayla Gaskins joining us live from Capitol Hill with more on this good morning to you Kayla what's the latest on on Kennedy's efforts to try to get his supporters to back Trump well good morning Jen so after RFK Jr suspended his campaign last month he did endorse Trump and several of his staffers have also joined him throwing their support behind Donald Trump as well the former staffers launched a new super pack they call make America healthy again it's aimed at getting Kennedy's supporters in swing states where Kennedy is unable to get his name off the ballot despite dropping out to vote for Trump the pack is also targeting blue states where it believes it has enough volunteers and polling to make a difference Virginia and New Hampshire are two of those States they're eyeing the pack spokesman said he wants to raise three and a half million dollar to produce and run tv ads in smaller TV markets live on Capitol Hill I'm K Gaskins reporting for the national desk America's news now Kayla Thank you new this morning Direct TV has filed a complaint with the FCC against Disney accusing them of negotiating in bad faith since the beginning of the month Direct TV customers have not been able to watch Disney's channels including ESPN ABC owned stations and most recently last night's Monday Night Football game the companies are in a disagreement over a new distribution deal that's not seen any progress so far Google meantime facing another Anti-Trust lawsuit over its advertising technology this comes just a month after a judge declared Google's search engine a monopoly the national desks Jeff Harris reports on the new trial and how it could change what you see online the doj is alleging that Google created another Monopoly but this time on digital advertising by obtaining all of the tools to buy sell and display ads they also claim Google controls the ad Exchange Market as well Rebecca Hall allensworth an antitrust professor of Vanderbilt law school tells us Google is being accused of monopolizing the adte market including the technology that matches online Publishers to advertisers somebody who has a space on a website wants to sell it to an Advertiser and how an Advertiser who has an advertisement they want to go on a website how they would connect and transact Hall allensworth says by controlling all of the technology the government is claiming Google makes a good bit of money when it arranges sales between Publishers and advertisers Google's accused of taking 30 cents out of every dollar uh in this market that's an awful lot of waste if indeed it's waste and that's what the government says mateline Somerville an attorney at Georgia trial Consulting tells us Google is making the argument that the government's perspective on what qualifies as acceptable practices in the ad Marketplace is outdated it's perfectly acceptable what they're doing because this is how the ad Marketplace works and that essentially the doj hasn't caught up to um um the uh new internet industry that we're in when it comes to advertising and marketing but she says if the tech giant is found guilty there is a chance the company could be broken up I think it would still be able to function it would just be sort of an overhaul now this past December Google agreed to pay $700 million to settle a separate antitrust lawsuit which claimed the company forced app makers to use its payment system on its Play Store Marketplace I'm Jeff Harris reporting from Washington Big Lot is fin fing for chapter 11 after it says high costs and interest rates forced it out of business the retailer is in the process of closing roughly 300 of its 1,400 stores and warns more closures could be coming soon the company joins a growing list of well-known retailers hitting financial problems as customers cut back on their spending a growing number of Americans say they're not happy with the direction of the US economy a new Harvard Harris poll found 63% of Americans said the economy was on the wrong track while just 30% said it's on the right track also 48% said their personal finances were getting worse while just 26% said it was getting better Straight Ahead this morning election security standoff the fight on Capitol Hill to keep our elections safe and secure before voters cast their ballots this fall hazardous air quality alerts out west right now as those raging wildfires continue forcing thousands to flee their homes very latest and brand new video and images into the live desk after this quick break e e e since only US citizens can vote in a federal election some members of the House are pushing a bill that would require all voters show proof of citizenship when registering joining us now to discuss this is Mark Morgan the former acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection and visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation good morning to you sir great to see you as always Mark why is this bill necessary do you think look once again my good friend chip Roy uh from Texas is just pushing forth a common sense Bill here's why we need it because the current system is broke Jan and let me give you an example right now it's legal for states to give illegal aliens state ID cards it's also legal for states to automatically register those same illegal aliens to vote without showing proof of citizenship and lastly it's also legal for states to conduct their elections without showing any form of ID look if you can be intellectually honest and set your political affiliation aside you can't disagree that system is fraught with Peril and it easily exploited for someone to vote that shouldn't vote it's just common sense and the save act closes those loopholes I'll give you an example the 2020 election three states were won by Le decided by less than 45,000 votes which decided the presidency if less than one half of 1% of illegal aliens or foror citizens voted that would change the outcome of our election it matters CNN is amongst the media Outlets that have now called out VP Comm Harris for featuring Trump's border wall in her campaign videos where they found 50 of her tweets criticizing the wall what you make of this Mark first of all let's keep in mind it was CNN so if you know CNN is criticizing vice president Harris it's got to be bad it is we're literally living in a whole realm of hypocrisy here but look and this also represents there's a lot of talk about her flip-flopping on policies I don't think she's flip-flopping on anything I think she's just saying and doing anything to get elected and in the the the 50 comments over the past you know several years she called this a waste of money she called it uh you know a Trump's vanity wall in her 2019 book she referred to the wall as a monument against everything that she stands but yet in her add she has not one but two images of the wall including the wall system that we built under President Trump I mean you you just can't make this up and this in my opinion this actually represents one of the strongest values she hold and that is her ability to act as a chameleon and say and do anything if she can now pretend like she supports the very thing that she said in the past was a monument against everything that she valued that says it all and she says her values have not changed there was an alert that the Venezuelan gang trende aragua which we've been hearing about a lot these days has now been terrorizing a texas-based oil and gas company in fact the FBI sent a warning about these armed gang members who were committing thefts in America's highest producing oil field Mark why isn't this considered a national security threat it should be Jan and I appreciate you bringing up and you and I have talked about this before and it's finally I I'm glad to hear the FBI you know putting some information out there but we we have been talking about this whe whether it's New York uh Texas Colorado the list goes on we are literally seeing because of this administration's open border policies we're seeing the creation of MS13 2.0 spread across this country like like like like a cancer we've seen this before we've been it before and right now as you and I are talking vice president Harris as thear the Border she actually reinstated a program cbp1 app where individuals from four countries including Venezuela can get online fill out a couple of sentences and fly into one of 45 interior airports in the United States they're also expanding that program now to Mexico so you can get on a bus and they're actually going to drive you to a land port of entry on our Southwest border and here's the big lie no matter how many times they keep saying it does not make it true we do not have the ability to properly vet everyone we're in County including those from Venezuela they know it they are intentionally allowing individuals that we do not know their crial background that they could be Venezuela gang members of TDA yet we're still released in the United States this is absurd it makes no sense especially because as you said before we have no diplomacy so how can we what what what's the Safeguard here where's the checks and balances if you don't have a diplomatic relationship with that country they're coming from former acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan always great to see you sir thanks for joining us here on the national desk you bet have a good day right now thousands of residents in multiple States under mandatory evacuation orders as wildfires threaten tens of thousands of buildings we do have some brand new video this morning at the uh this is the airport fire in California here to my right and some of the crews are dropping fire retardant down trying to get a control on those fires that continue to rage residents are being told to stay indoors as Wildfire smoke is causing unhealthy and even hazardous air quality in some areas you see that in the area around Reno and those alerts there to the South here's where we stand right now with the larger one the Wildfire out west California's line fire burning nearly 26,000 acres and just 5% containment right now about 2,000 firefighters and Personnel battling this fire alone the line line fire as it's being called is threatening over 36,00 thousand structures many of those are homes in Nevada officials there say the Davis fire really is a wind driven one and it's burning out of control forcing horses they're trying to get out of the way growing to about 5,000 Acres 0% contained destroying at least 14 structures tens of thousands are under evacuation notice and these are not the only wildfires out west experts say several fires across California Oregon Washington and Idaho they're just so large they're actually forming their own weather with lightning and rain associated with them you're seeing some of those images here behind me really wild to see that one fire officials saying they're expecting quote very significant growth for wildfires over the next few days this is the national desk America's news now we have reporters all across the country in your neighborhoods covering issues that matter to you from Rhode Island residents outraged over construction noise keeping them up at night to a cyber threat closing School in Washington state we are taking the PS of America but we start in Maryland where a 12-year-old child has been in police custody more than 10 [Music] times according to University of Maryland police an officer spotted the 12-year-old riding a stolen electric scooter on a sidewalk here along Guilford Drive last night when the officer approached the trial tried to hide then police spotted a stolen Tesla park nearby and found the car's key fob in the 12-year-old's pocket it was the 10th time campus police have caught the boy with either a stolen car or stolen scooter since March in each case he was quickly released because of his age the case prompting renewed calls for change in the Juvenile Justice laws which also don't allow police to even question a child if his parents are not able to get him to stop acting like a criminal then it's up to the courts to do that [Music] construction crews are tearing down the condemned Washington Bridge just started clearing the pounding uh from inside our house Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. this is what people in Providence are listening to as they try to sleep well I since I live right here I'm going to be hearing it all night I guess for the next two weeks so that'll be really hard to sleep through this feels like we've been totally forgotten you pass the what should we do if we have kids who can't sleep for people dealing with this overnight headache a few weeks without sleep feels unbearable not only is their Road closed off but it's just so loud is there anything the city can do about that not really it's inevitable you're doing Demolition and if we were to do it during the day uh then we would have even worse traffic problems than we've experienced in the [Music] past in a post on Facebook the Highline School District says quote student safety is our top priority and we cannot have school without these critical systems in place are you disappointed schools cancelled today yeah the district says they're investigating unauthorized activity in the district's technology systems this affects more than 177,000 students we've told you about several recent cyber attacks and data breaches some of the big hits are casinos hospitals and schools Seattle Public Library and the bethl school district were hit earlier this year I think it's crazy that all these cyber attacks are happening I mean isn't there supposed to be a system that's supposed to be preventing this and if it is so their system has a flaw in it if it's not preventing it 49 minutes past the hour breaking out of Europe this morning the highest EU Court issuing thank you very much Wisconsin Trump was on the trail in Wisconsin ahead of Tuesday night they're lying cheating thieving hoaxing and plotting will come to an end with Harris taking a break from debate prep in Pittsburgh are you ready M vice president ready Harris will likely have to defend flip-flops from past stances axios identified nine areas where she's reportedly changed including originally opposing a border wall no longer opposing a fracking ban and backing off Medicare for all her campaign website added an issues page ahead of the debate after critics claimed she wasn't clear on her stances it took seven weeks since President Joe Biden dropped his re-election bid before the Harris team put the page up on the campaign website Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was asked over the weekend if Harris abandoned Progressive positions no I don't think she's abandoning her ideals I think she's trying to be pragmatic and doing what she thinks is right in order to win the election National polling averages have the race at a dead heat between the two candidates a New York Times Sienna poll released on the eve of the debate has Trump up one over Harris well within the margin of error and the closest it's ever been between two candidates with just eight weeks to go before an election the debate could be the last chance to shift the electorate you're going to see the same Donald Trump that you saw a couple of months ago in Georgia with Joe Biden he's going to be calm cool and collected he's going to set up the contrast between the disastrous administration of KLA Harris and Joe Biden KLA Harris is going to demonstrate why she's going to be the next president I think she's going to have an excellent command of the issues she's going to be able to draw contrasts with Donald Trump and when the dust settles on Tuesday night it will have been the seventh time that Donald Trump has appeared on the big stage for a general election debate the most ever in history reporting in Washington I'm Matt Gela critics will be looking closely at just how ABC News will balance those debate questions one news Watchdog group followed ABC's World News Tonight with debate this morning a fourth day of searching about to get underway as police hone in on a man accused of opening fire on a highway in Kentucky we know 32-year-old Joseph couch sent a text message about 30 minutes before he shot in wounded five people on Interstate 75 and according to the warrant couch wrote in that message to his ex-wife wife quote I'm going to kill a lot of people well try at least in at least six other police officials tied to Adams also had their homes raided and phones confiscated developing now Congress returned to Capitol Hill and they are already torn over a battle between the budget and efforts to ensure only US citizens are registered to vote National desks Kayla Gaskins joins us live from Capitol Hill with more on this Kayla good morning to you how are those negotiations looking so far well good morning janzo the to-do list is pretty long and time is short there was just 13 legislative days when Congress got back in session yesterday to agree on and pass a spending plan there's already a big hurdle on Friday the House GOP unveiling a 46 page stop Gap plan that would fund the government through March of 2025 but attached is a bill called the save act it's a law requiring stricter proof of citizenship requirements for voting many in the goop support attaching this bill but Democrats are quick to slam the plan it essentially is a National voter ID and I would think both parties and everybody would be interested in protecting the Integrity of the ballot making sure that people only legally qualified to vote do so but it's become a partisan issue which is amazing to me Republicans basically just want to play political games and tie the future of our economy and real people's jobs to these horrific plans that really get us and do nothing for the actual country or for actual voting security Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also warning speaker Mike Johnson that he's making the same mistakes as his predecessor Kevin McCarthy by wasting precious time in catering to the hard magga right the current funding for the federal government will expire on September 30th live on Capitol Hill I'm Kayla Gaskins reporting for the national desk America's news now Kayla thank you a new report calls out China for fueling the fentel crisis in the US the Heritage Foundation estimates that fentel killed 75,000 Americans in 2023 the report States the Chinese Communist party is actively funding reporting and pushing America's most deadly drug threat in history the combined forces of deadly Mexican drug cartels and hostile Chinese Ambitions have delivered to the US a destabilizing crisis and a death toll that each year eclipses the total of us casualties from the Vietnam War ahead this morning migrant surge a small Ohio town is becoming a flash point in the migrant crisis how the state is taking action and then caught on camera what the newly released body cam video reveals when Dolphins player Tyreek Hill got pulled over and a live look at Capitol Hill where today Congress will bestow its highest Honor on 13 service members who died during that disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal we'll take a look ahead coming up in 90 seconds e e [Music] welcome back a live look over Capitol Hill this morning where today house Speaker Mike Johnson is hosting a ceremony in the capital rotunda to poisly present congress's highest honor the Congressional gold medal to 13 US service members who were killed during the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan at the same time a bitter battle over who's to blame continues in Washington House Republicans released a scathing report on Sunday blaming President Biden who signed the legislation for the withdrawal in December 2021 GOP lawmakers say he and his administration need to face account ability for the deaths of those 13 troops as well as the more than 170 Afghans who were killed in a suicide bombing at abig gate near cobbles airport Democrats however calling the house report partisan and casting blame on former president Donald Trump in a statement house Speaker Johnson writing we must not allow the Biden Harris Administration to rewrite history the families of the 13 Fallen service members and the Allies we abandoned in Afghanistan deserve better the families of those 13 Serv members will attend today's ceremony top Republican and Democratic leaders from both the House and Senate are expected to speak mark thank you the ice office in Baltimore arrested their 153rd illegal migrant sex offender this fiscal year 36-year-old hondura National maida Amaya was convicted of rape in Maryland in 2009 was sentenced and deported in 2016 however he illegally re-entered the US and was deported again in 2018 ice was able to catch him last month after he entered illegally yet again Texas governor Greg Abbott says he will fight the Biden Harris Administration over a part of the Southern border it's called Fronton Island and it's in the Rio Grand River Texas authorities say the Island used to be covered with vegetation allowing Mexican cartels to use it to hide illegal activities well then Texas state troopers and National Guard took over the island they cleared it and they cut cartel activity to zero Governor Abbott says he will not comply with the Biden Harris administration's demands to return the island to its prior condition one small American Town that's taken on thousands of illegal migrants is becoming a flash point to in the Border crisis residents in Springfield Ohio a manufacturing Hub between Columbus and Dayton have seen a major surge in a recent article titled how an Ohio Town landed in the middle of the immigration debate the New York Times wrote during the last census in 2020 a little more than 58,000 people lived in Springfield but now City official estimate that as many as 20,000 Haitians have arrived most of them since the pandemic and that's bringing attention to Springfield residents concerns at Council meetings but it is so unsafe I have men that cannot speak English in my front yard screaming at me throwing mattresses in my front yard throwing trash in my front yard and I can't I look at me I weigh 95 pounds I couldn't defend myself if I had to I want out of this town I am sorry please give me a reason to stay these Haitians are running into trash cans they're running into buildings they're running into they flipping cars in the middle of the street they're in the park grabbing up Ducks by their neck and cutting their head off and walking off with them and and eating them after getting calls and emails from residents Senator JD Vance wrote months ago I raised the issue of Haitian illegal immigrants during social services and generally causing chaos All Over Springfield reports now show that people have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn't be in this country where is our borders are well yesterday Ohio attorney general Dave Yos said he will take legal action to stop the federal government from sending migrants to Ohio unrestricted national desk Kasha Hancock spoke to him after taking a trip to Springfield I had somebody else tell me that where he lives he had Haitian Neighbors and just how they you know put their trash out and they were dirty after hearing complaints from Springfield residents about Haitian immigrants killing and eating people's pets I reached out to the City of Springfield and received a statement saying we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed injured or abused by individuals within the Immigrant Community resident Jeff Allen tells me he's Heard lots of things but there's one major complaint the Community has been talking about I think the main thing that uh people were concerned about is is the uh is the uh the the driving the reckless driving uh not knowing how to drive and being on the streets and and and the amount of accidents that have been occurring attorney general Dave Yos has already directed his office to make a plan to tackle the reported influx of immigrants coming into the City of Springfield he tells me the problem is not who the migrant hermano Joseph did not have a valid driver's license and was sentenced to 9 years for vehicular homicide former president Trump also calling out vice president Harris who pushed to bring Haitian migrants to the us a couple of years ago starting with our Administration we gave TPS temporary protected status to Haitian migrants 55,000 and then more recently we extended temporary investigation continues former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo set to testify before Congress today the alleged coverup to high mistakes that endangered thousands of nursing home residents will explain in less than 2 minutes e e e [Music] today former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is scheduled to testify to Congress over alleged mishandling of the covid-19 pandemic members of a GOP Le house select subcommittee released a report ahead of today's testimony that accused Cuomo of staging a cover up to hide mistakes that endangered nursing home residents back in March of 2020 he issued a directive that barred nursing homes from refusing to accept patients because they had covid-19 critics say it exposed thousands of vulnerable elderly people to that virus before it was resented more than 9,000 recovering coronavirus patients were released from hospitals into nursing homes under that directive there were about 15,000 covid-19 deaths among long-term term care residents in New York far more than the initial number disclosed the committee found Cuomo and his top AIDS tried to deflect blame for the directive by ordering up an unscientific report concluding that the directive likely had little impact to the fatalities Cuomo testified before the subcommittee back in June that was behind closed doors he has denied any wrong doing mark thank you ahead in our next half hour big Tech on trial Google facing a blockbuster Anti-Trust lawsuit against the government just weeks after another case came to a close also this morning on alert high temperatures and dry conditions spanning wildfires across the West Coast forcing thousands of evacuations this morning we'll have all those stories plus a look at your top headlines coming up next first though here's a look at America's news and weather now there you live I'm meteorologist L prey with look the Northeast we have a great stretch of weather on the way in the Northeast in the coming days today we should have highs again in the 70s near 80 in some areas down towards New York here we are during the morning hours look for a lot of sun there'll be a few clouds in Northern New England but sun should Rule the Sky courtesy of high pressure cool nighttime temperatures are expected in fact early morning lows on Wednesday will probably be in the 40s and low 50s for a good chunk of the Northeast but by afternoon we're back in the 70s to near 80 I'm chief meteorologist jar Bailey here's a look at the Mid-Atlantic region a quiet pattern is settling in with the exception of far Northern Pennsylvania we're not seeing much of anything across the Mid-Atlantic high pressure continuing to build in means it will stay dry it'll stay sunny it'll be very quiet and very comfortable low humidity is the name of the game feeling wonderful temperature still reaching the mid 80s for your Tuesday afternoon 70s in the mountains and same for your Wednesday very similar low humidity but comfortably warm I'm meteorologist vus Reed here's a look at your Southeast forecast highs we're looking at 91 in Nashville 84 in Raleigh 87 mon over in Jacksonville about 82 degrees 90 West Palm looks like a hot one out there over the gulf we're looking at a formation of tropical storm uh Francine and this storm is expected to strengthen to a category one hurricane and the forast track at this time is taking it up towards Louisiana making a landfall and then kind of riding up through uh the Mississippi Delta dropping plenty of rainfall as we get towards Tuesday night well a very good Tuesday morning everyone meteorologist SRE Buck Michael heating up across the plains some 90s a lot of sunshine across most of the Midwest for the day today it's going to be a pretty nice day for us as we head into your Wednesday still dry and warming up a little bit more for most of the Midwest then we start to see some rain starting to push its way in from the south by the time that we get to Thursday from Francine although most of the Midwest still remaining dry for Thursday we'll keep an eye on Francine for later this week good Tuesday morning meteorologist Jo De Carlo and the watch and warning map continues to grow here ahead of tropical storm Francine hurricane warning in effect along the Louisiana Coastline so through your day today we'll likely see Francine become a hurricane as it moves just off the Texas coast and it's headed into Southern Louisiana by Wednesday afternoon Wednesday evening so the next 24 hours or so it's the time to prepare across extreme far Southeastern Texas and Southern Louisiana well hi there everybody in a good Tuesday morning to you I'm meteorologist Shannon odonnell getting deeper into the month of September which tends to be a hot month in the Golden State we'll sue tempson San Diego Portland by late Tuesday night some air quality issues in eastern Oregon and again very hot in California and that's the scene from here [Music] e e the national desk America's news [Music] now now on the national desk America's news now Tech trial Google back in court accused of dominating the advertising space the ruling on the way that could change what you see while browsing online plus very surreal the only word I can come up with the Flames crested the hill back over there so we deci okay let's get out of here before they you know actually come and just force us out forced out evacuation orders in place across several Western States as dry conditions make it harder for Crews to battle fast moving wildfires and high stakes debate vice president Harris and former president Trump facing off for the first and possibly only time tonight with the election now less than two months away thanks for joining us you are watching the national desk America's news now I'm J Jeff coat it is Tuesday September 10th and we're just hours away from the presidential debate the pressure on VP Harris after the release of some new polling showing her early lead now completely gone a New York Times n Cenna College poll has Trump with his first lead over Harris you can see 48 to 47% here the survey also found 28% of Voters said they need to know more about Harris compared to just 9% for Trump the New York Times highlighting the pressure on Harris writing heading into the high stakes debate on Tuesday the mood in the party remains upbeat but with polls looking tight concerns are starting to seep in Mark Bole is at the live desk following the latest on the debate including the rules and how the candidates are already getting ready good morning to you good morning a lot of speculation about what will happen we'll find out in just a few hours tonight's debate could be the only one genan between the two candidates so a lot on the line as both try and went over undecided voters both sides taking a very different approach in preparing a live look this morning over Pittsburgh this is where uh KLA Harris has been the past four days at a hotel there during uh going through an intensive debate Camp her AIDS have put up a mock setup with the layout of a debate studio and they've gone through rigorous hours of rehearsed questions as well at the same time Donald Trump opting for policy sessions with his AIDS that's happening at the Bedminster Golf Club in New Jersey a live look over the national Constitution Center and Philadelphia where the debate will happen at 900 p.m. Eastern tonight as for those rules the candidates microphones will be muted when it's not their turn to talk something the Harris team asked to change but that rule will stay in place there will be no studio audience and candidates will not be allowed to have notes or to question each other directly after tonight no other presidential debates are set so it's really the only chance for Trump and Harris to distinguish themselves when it comes to key issues but we are still looking ahead to the VP candidate face off between Tim Walls and jie Vance that one is set for October 1st hosted by CBS News look for updates and reaction to tonight's debate right here at the live Des both tonight and tomorrow morning and online anytime at the national.com mark thank you both candidates have differing strategies going into tonight's debate terce has spent the past few days with her AIDS creating a mock setup even casting a trump stand in while Trump a veteran now on the debate stage has spent most of his time campaigning he has gotten some help with debate prep with a few of his allies including former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbert who ran as a Democratic presidential candidate back in 2020 he's not focused on trying to get under her skin he really is focused on the issues that matter most to the American people uh president Trump is in great spirits he is looking forward to this debate uh you can imagine it's frustrating for any of us to watch and see the lies that are being sold about kamla Harris and how much she's getting a free pass another former presidental candidate calling out Harris ahead of the debate Nikki Haley says all Trump has to do is stick to the policies and call out the past three and a half years of the Biden Harris Administration she's already talked about raising taxes where she's talked about rolling back the tax cuts when you look she was the tiebreaking vote on the two biggest inflation drivers we've seen with the American Rescue plan and the inflation reduction act so take her at her word take her at what we've already seen her do and know that you're going to have more of that RFK junor will be in the debate spin room with VP candidate JD Vance tonight to support Trump National desks Kayla gasin is joining us live from Capitol Hill with more on this Kayla good morning to you what is the latest on Kennedy's efforts to try to get uh you know his supporters to back Trump so Jan after RFK Jr suspended his campaign last month he endorsed Trump now several of his staffers have joined him throwing their support behind Donald Trump as well the former staffers launching a new super pack they call make America healthy again it's aimed at getting getting Kennedy supporters in swing states where Kennedy is unable to get his name off the ballot despite dropping out to back Trump the pack is also targeting blue states where it believes it has has enough volunteers and polling to help Trump there those states are Virginia and New Hampshire that they're really zeroing in on a pack spokesman saying he wants to raise $3 and a. half million dollar to produce and run tv ads in smaller television markets live on Capitol Hill I'm Kayla Gaskins reporting for the national desk America's news now 35 minutes past the hour right now thousands of residents in multiple States under mandatory evacuation orders as wildfires continue to threaten thousands of buildings we have some brand new video to show you this morning on the airport fire that's in California here to my right and some Crews have been dropping retardant down trying to get those Flames to go away it is a slow process there residents are being told to stay indoors as the Wildfire smoke now is causing very unhealthy and even hazardous air quality in some areas you can see it up and around Reno and the alerts to the South here's where things stand right now and the larger Wildfire is out west California's line fire it's called burning nearly 26,000 acres in just 5% contained at last check and 2,000 firefighters and Personnel battling that one alone the line fires threatening over 36,000 structures many of those homes and in Nevada now officials say the Davis fire really is a wind driven one and it's burning out of control forcing those horses right there to flee growing to about 5,000 Acres 0% contained as well and destroying at least 14 structures tens of thousands of people under evacuation notice these aren't the only wildfires out west experts say there are fires in California Oregon Washington and Idaho and some are so large they're actually forming their own weather patterns with lightning and rain you can see some of those images here behind me and we uh are expecting a significant growth according to experts for these wildfires over the next couple of days thank you Mark and new this morning Direct TV has filed a complaint with the FCC against Disney accusing them of negotiating in bad faith since the beginning of the month Direct TV customers have not been able to watch Disney's channels including ESPN ABC owned stations and most recently last night's Monday Night Football game the companies are in a disagreement over a new distribution deal that has not seen any progress so far Google facing another antitrust lawsuit over its advertising technology this comes just a month after a judge declared Google's search engine a monopoly the national desks Jeff Harris reports on the new trial and how it could change what you see online the doj is alleging that Google created another Monopoly but this time on digital advertising by obtaining all of the tools to buy sell and display ads they also claim Google controls the ad Exchange Market as well Rebecca Hall allensworth an antitrust professor of vanderbelt Law School tells us Google is being accused of monopolizing the adte market including the technology that matches online Publishers to advertisers somebody who has a space on a website wants to sell it to an Advertiser and how an Advertiser who has an advertisement they want to go on a website how they would connect and transact Hall allensworth says by controlling all of the technology the government is claiming Google makes a good bit of money when it arranges sales between Publishers and advertisers Google's accused of taking 30 cents out of every dollar uh in this market that's an awful lot of waste if indeed it's waste and that's what the government says mine Somerville an attorney at Georgia trial Consulting tells us Google is making the argument that the government's perspective on what qualifies as acceptable practices and the ad Marketplace is outdated it's perfectly acceptable what they're doing because this is how the ad Marketplace works and that essentially the doj's hasn't caught up to um the uh new internet industry that we're in when it comes to advertising and marketing but she says if the tech giant is found guilty there is a chance the company could be broken up I think it would still be able to function it would just be sort of an overhaul now this past December Google agreed to pay $700 million to settle a separate antitrust lawsuit which claimed the company forced app makers to use its payment system on its Play Store Marketplace I'm Jeff Harris reporting from Washington Big Lots is filing for chapter 11 after it says high costs and interest rates forced it out of business the retailer is in the process of closing roughly 300 of its 1400 stores and warns more closures could be coming soon the company joins a growing list of well-known retailers hitting financial problems as customers cut back on their spending a growing number of Americans say they're not happy with the direction of the US economy a new Harvard Harris poll found 63% of Americans said the economy is on the wrong track while just 30% said it's on the right track also 48% said their personal finances are getting worse while just 26% said it's getting better Straight Ahead this morning the stage is set our coverage of tonight's first and possibly only presidential debate between former president Trump and vice president kamla Harris continues former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development during the Trump Administration Dr Vin Carson joining us next to break down what we can expect tonight and breaking news out of Europe this morning the highest EU Court issuing billions of dollars in F for us big Tech Apple and Google details Straight Ahead after this quick [Music] break e e breaking this morning out of Europe the eu's highest Court ruled Apple and Google must pay billions in taxes and fines those rulings represent a major shift in regulations on big Tech Regulators determined that Apple struck illegal deals with the Irish government that allowed the company to pay virtually nothing in taxes on its business in Europe for several years now Apple will pay more than $4 billion to Ireland Apple say says this decision effectively allows the EU to impose a double tax on company income that's already been taxed in the United States in the Google case the court agreed with the commission's 2017 decision to find the company more than $2 billion for giving preferential treatment to its own price comparison shopping service over Rivals Google released a statement in it saying it's disappointed by this ruling but that it has already adjusted its products to comply with the 2017 decision including new designs to steer customers to rival websites tonight former president Donald Trump and vice president kamla Harris will face off for the first and perhaps only debate this election cycle currently polls do have Trump ahead of Harris with less than two months before the election former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr Ben Carson served under the Trump Administration and joins us now to disc discuss the big night good morning to you sir thanks for joining us here good morning glad to be with you thanks you know you hear many political leaders say this is the most important election of their lifetime tell us what's at stake here sir well it's just much different than most uh debates in the past because uh no one really knows who camela Harris is and what her policies are and also this election is not so much about Democrats and Republicans as it is about people who believe in America believe in our founding principles and people who think we're the wrong country and that they need to fundamentally change it so you have people like camela Harris who are radical leftists you know who believe in things like Christ controls of course she won't admit to that but all you have to do is look at the regimes of people like Stalin and M and Castro to see what those do to an economy and go ahead I was G to say you've been on the debate stage before as someone who's also run for president tell us about that experience and what we can expect tonight what will you be keeping a close eye on and how important is this debate well you will see uh each of the candidate trying to get under the other one skin and uh create some havoc and cause them to react in an emotional way uh but what we really should be looking for are indications of what a person actually believes because we're choosing the leader of the Free World and it's important to know what they mean now with the case of kamla Harris she stayed away from the media you have to ask yourself why would she do that because her base her leftist base you'll notice that they're not mad at her for changing all of her opinions that's because they know she hasn't really changed it you know she said uh you know my values are the same what Trump will need to do is bring out what those values are why is it that she believes that the government is Solutions everything why is there no trust in the people Trump on the other hand will be coming up with probably some new and interesting ideal uh by decreasing the tax rate for manufact ERS who manufacture in this country uh those are the kinds of things that bring jobs back that really boost an economy he'll be talking about uh expanding opportunities on things that raise the economy for everybody not just for specific and you served as HUD secretary Harris has talked about making housing more affordable but many economists have blasted her proposals like a rent cap I know you mentioned price controls there because as we know price controls can impact the supply by discouraging new bills when it comes to the housing market what's your thoughts on this well first of all recognize that uh there aren't a lot of houses out there on the market there's a real problem because a lot of people have three and 4% mortgages they're not going to trade that for 7% mortgage so you know the movement that we normally have in people moving up and up and up has pretty much been stifled and uh you know her proposal for $25,000 down payment uh assistance for new home buyers you know in a market like the one that I just described everybody's going for the few houses that are there all that does is raises the price of the property by $25,000 you know basically what we have here is someone who really does not understand the economy doesn't understand what people are going through and somebody who has lived it who has worked it who has created jobs I've seen his interactions with uh you know average citizen he's very concerned about them the people that work for him he knows their names he knows who their families are you know this is a very different uh setting and our Founders when they put our country together they studied all the governments that had ever existed and they discovered that all governments move in the same direction they grow they infiltrate and they dominate they wanted to give us one that was different and that's why they worked so hard on our constitution but they realized that we were in danger and that's why Benjamin Franklin said when he came out of the Constitution Hall in 1787 he was asked what do we have here monarchy or Republic he said a republic if you can keep and he knew that those pressures would be there those pressures are there now more than than ever and the distinction that has to be made between these two candidates is huge and hopefully the people can recognize that and decide which kind of country they want to have this debate will go a long way in helping to Define that we look forward to uh seeing it tonight and we're so thankful you could join us this morning former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr Ben Carson God bless thanks for joining us this morning thank you coming up on 49 minutes past the hour in just just a few moments ago breaking right now the US accusing Iran of giving short range missiles to Russia for the war in Ukraine Secretary of State Anthony blinkin says sanctions will be announced later this week blinkin alongside British foreign secretary David Lame in London says Russia will likely use these ballistic missiles against Ukraine within just a few weeks from now Iran has denied providing weapons to Russia but us officials claim intelligence gather from over the weekend says otherwise both blinkin and lame are making a joint visit to Ukraine tomorrow we'll follow this breaking story and we'll be right back right after this e e we're waiting to see how a Missouri Supreme Court rules today on a lawsuit that seeks to remove an abortion rights amendment from the November ballot the reason today is so key time is up by 5:00 p.m. the ruling is needed because the November ballots are scheduled to go to print there shortly after that announcement on Friday a Cole County Circuit Judge named Christopher limau stopped short of removing the proposal from the November ballot instead he's giving the campaign a chance to appeal and make changes to the ballot Missouri Outlaws all abortions the proposed Constitutional Amendment would guarantee the right to an abortion until fetal viability today's hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. local time in Missouri updates on this story on our website this afternoon Jen mark thank you a live look over Capitol Hill where the house Freedom caucus is expected to name a new leader by the end of the week now this comes after Virginia Congressman Bob good lost his primary earlier this summer to Trump backed Virginia state Senator John Maguire Politico reporting the leading candidates for the chair position are Arizona Congressman Andy BS and Pennsylvania Congressman Scott Perry a fight for election Integrity right now brewing in Wisconsin today the state supreme court is scheduled to hear arguments to determine whether mobile voting sites are legal Republicans brought the case arguing so-called voting Vans violate state law and increase the likelihood of voter fraud the ruling is expected weeks from now and will not affect November's election ahead in our next hour City in crisis one state taking action to handle the surge in migrants after its residents say they are at their breaking point e e today marks the peak of hurricane season right on schedule there is the storm that is in the Gulf right now it is tracking towards Louisiana bringing alerts to Texas Louisiana and Mississippi you see all the alerts behind me and this will threaten the gulf with flooding rain there the states there along the Gulf Coast life-threatening storm surge damaging winds and even uh possibility of some tornadoes near Port Arthur as well taking a live look over New Orleans right in the track in this area later tonight into tomorrow cities like Galveston Houston and Bowman could also see some of those impacts from the storm and here's the latest forecast cone the current National Hurricane Center predicts the storm's going to gain some strength and possibly get to a category 2 status before landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday night that is our time for this hour of the national desk right now here's a look at America's news and weather where you live I'm me
