Aaron Judge Stats & Gerrit Cole Injury (Update) Yankees - TMKS Michael Kay Show

I don't know if you saw yesterday's Yankee game but uh boy is is Aaron judge special I mean legitimately special so he had two more home runs yesterday at this point he has 39 homers and 99 rubies he is on Pace for 59 home runs waiting on the Yankee lotet will give you that when we get it uh we'll go back to the phone calls now we're moving toward the trade deadline of 6:00 p.m. Eastern uh and I'll mention again as I mentioned yesterday and I continue uh and will continue to to uh try to articulate it's it's silly it's ridiculous it doesn't make any sense why the trade deadline is today with the third wild card there are more teams that are in it so you should allow more time for those teams to declare whether they're in it or not this way you might have more sellers you might even have more deals the way it is right now some of these teams are chasing Fool's Gold they think they're in it but in two weeks they might not be and if you had made the Trad trade deadline August 15th maybe that would have been enough time for them to declare themselves as non-c contenders and then get in to this uh this trade frenzy and maybe trade some people and make your team better for the future having it at the end of July does not make sense just doesn't make sense Dylan in the Long Island Dylan hey guys how are you good how you doing good listen I would love Yanni Diaz on the Yankees but I feel like the aners are going give up way too much for him I'm seeing that they could possibly give up rice for him I think rice has a lot of upside and also one more thing I'm seeing that doie could possibly be traded as well but what do you think of that if Dominguez comes up in place I just think it's too much going on right now with doie what do you think yeah I just saw that I don't know uh the The credibility uh I mean the guy's verified which doesn't mean anything means he pays $8 a month but um it's a reporter who has 12,000 followers who said that he's hearing that Verdugo is also being dangled in trade so I mean could it happen yeah maybe the a you think they're a better team if they have a switch hitter like Dominguez and maybe that moves judge to left in some visiting ballparks and you put Dominguez in Center uh so it it it could happen and maybe that would bring back something but um ironically enough now he's starting to hit again so if this is the Verdugo that plays a sterling left field and also gets you 35 to 40 doubles um Jack obviously the plan was to talk to you about all the impending moves or maybe moves but I've got to start with does this scratching of garri Cole change anything I mean if gar Cole's not healthy as I said before the break I mean what are we really doing anyway I mean they can't make up for that hey Michael hey Peter good to join you guys and you're right Michael on a day where we're talking about trades and I know that the Yankees are pursuing pitching and still trying to make something more happen in the next couple of hours you hear this news and it's ominous news when someone as important as gar Cole is to the Yankees is scratched a few hours before a start you do wonder what is going on we know the Yankees have said General body soreness he's made Seven starts since coming back this season after the four arm issue Boon is going to address reporters in Philadelphia less than a half an hour I think he can give more insight right now we don't have a lot of information to go on but Cole is so important to what the Yankees are trying to do that any start that he misses is big news and could be seismic news yeah Jack you know we were talking in the first hour just about how it's it's so difficult for both the Yankees and the Mets and and every team right now to thread the needle get something that you want without giving up so much that it affects your future is that something that the Yankees are wrestling with right now because you know as you said they're in on a lot but they might have to give up players that they don't want to give up and if you look at the history of the Yankees during Brian cashman's tenure they've never really been bitten by a guy who turned into a superstar like a John Smoltz or or Jeff Bagwell they've held on to those sorts of players the players they like so much will they move away from this because of you know the fact that this could be the only year you have stto it's a great question Michael and you described the climate and the trade situation perfectly and I'll give you an example I'll talk about Garrett crochet from the White Sox and a picture who we know is out there and let's leave off to the side for a second it's hard to leave it off to the side what he and his agent have said about him wanting an extension let's just talk about the pitcher and the pursuit of the pitcher I know from talking to some white sock people today that the Yankees and the White Soxs weren't able in any way to match up and that's because the White Sox want a haul for crochet they're going to want your top guys and those are the players that the Yankees are loathed to give up whether it's a Dominguez or a Spencer Jones so it is about threading the needle if you look at the Mark ligher Jr deal the Yankees traded neie and cows a couple of minor Leaguers who are actually having good season but they're both rule five eligible and they are not players that they Yankees were likely to have on their 40-man roster so they're going to lose them anyway in the off season so that's where the Yankees are are trying to deal from and some instances but to get that needle mover somebody like crochet or even somebody like Tanner Scott that's where you got to dig a little deeper into your farm system and as you said it gets tricky as an organization to balance
