foreign [Music] right here or should I say rather doctor Copeland from the NYU you talked to it yes now this lady's amazing viewers not only are you an award-winning ballerina you're also you made history by being the first female dancer African-American in the American Ballet we've even got a Barbie yes designed after you so tell the viewers with flower what you want the viewers to take away from it yeah I think I want people to really understand the power of dance and that dance is a universal language you don't all have to speak the same language you don't even have to speak to understand and and see the power of it and then taking this kind of uh very human and real concept of um connecting to a community so you think about ballet we think about these kind of fairy tale stories like a Swan Lake or a Sleeping Beauty but I wanted to take a community that I feel connected to the community of Oakland California and tell the story of what they're actually experiencing and be able to highlight the issues and do that all through through movement well I loved you mentioned about community so tell the viewers also about your foundation yeah you're not walking the walk talking the talking dancing you're giving back to the community and giving young kids a chance yes it's been really important throughout my journey to give back to communities like I came from so the Misty Copeland Foundation is our first signature program is called be bold it stands for ballet Explorations Bali offers leadership development it's a free ballet class being offered in underserved under represented communities and you know it's not just about creating like the next ballet Superstar it's about giving them the tools to be leaders in their communities to have discipline to hope maybe be patrons in the future but it's really about access and exposure and giving everyone an opportunity certainly our platform is about fashion so tell the viewers about your clothing line that you've got yes I thought you're gonna ask me what I was wearing yes no we're not shallow tell the viewers about your clothing line because it's coming out in the fall yes yes greatness wins it's in athletic where mine and um Derek Jeter called me up and asked if I was interested in being a part of it but it's really special to be not just a face of a brand but to be a Founder within within this company with Derek Jeter and Wayne Gretzky and Chris ricobono but to be kind of spearheading the women's line and and putting you know a different I guess perspective in terms of being an athlete and being a performer and that's definitely going to be reflected in what you see so why do you think I'm going to quote you now that you've called flower and art activism short why do I call it that yeah well because it's focusing on important topics important issues that not just the community of Oakland California can relate to and it's going through that it's something uh globally but especially in the United States and so I wanted to be able to highlight this and bring awareness to it through dance and through movement thank you Misty so I will ask that question seeing as you asked who are you wearing Oscar de la Renta Wow Let's Get a close-up on thank you thank you [Music]
