welcome to blackburg Virginia home to a team that brings this lunch pail each and every game the Virginia Tech Hokies this one a match up between two teams from Virginia where bragging rights in the Commonwealth are at stake as we'll see a squad from the Sun Belt the James Madison Dukes taking on team looking for its first win the Virginia Tech Hoke for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's te this one [Applause] up the give to the tailb at the 35 loate explosive plays by handing the football off to this guy he has got incredible speed and maybe he'll get off hitting the offensive guys and staying in your gaps everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you could tell the defense everyone was right where they're supposed to be nowhere to win he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down it's just so they'll throw it on first down finds his big tight end the game and they move the sticks they'll snap it from the 26 on first down scanning the field it's Douglas pressure coming and he was down they could get to him and affect his accuracy and they did on that last play it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs pulls it in it's Russell stay put as the head coach decides to go for it on fourth down the Dukes want to move quickly the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half and trying to strike from the 15 he's looking to throw it quarterback now breaking the field got some room enter to the goal line gets out of B after the big game but they've got it first and goal from the gun they're trying to get to him oh he needs ball defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming off play action and the defense he's looking downfield to throw fires into traffic picked off and he's wrapped up that [Applause] solid from the gun running back gets to give got room at the 35 running toward the tape and finally out of bounds after an explosive run by this ball carrier and I know in talking to their offensive coordinator this week he talked about getting this guy lathered up and going they know that once he's got some momentum he's really hard to stop one of the top 10 rushers right now in the entire country and they're trying to get him going early in this game that last big play has them in business just outside the Red Zone it's first and 10 hand off from the shotgun they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and a great job by the linebacker you can tell starting to crowd the line of scrimmage get up there in the line of scrimmage see it diagnose it get in the back field get the running back on the ground for the tackle for the loss hey get him on the ground didn't see anything down field but made a little something out of it a third and long coming up here back to throw it's Douglas quarterback strolling away from heat blasted as go unit comes on he got it and the three ball gives us a tie James Madison sends the offense back onto the field guys that last trip a little disappointing having to take the three yeah I think Jesse you see so many offenses talk about getting yards and the tempo and all the stuff they do was a nice job moving the football but they got to get in the end zone this time yeah and I think to do that they just got to be more physical at the point of attack get some push on an eight fast motion from the offense he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a cup arm from the 40 from the gun wants to pass gets it out fast down in distance they knew exactly what they needed to do to make the tackle to force the punt that is so well done fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way signals for the fair catch James Madison ready to go back on the attack they been pretty much stifled on offense so far David only able to muster three points in their previous three drives and you got to find a way to open this up and create some explosive plays the passing you know they're frustrated too because they felt like there were some matchups they could take advantage of to get some points on the board early in this one they just haven't been able to connect on those opportunities but I like David's idea maybe move some guys around see if you can create some better one-on-one matchups and he was just a couple of steps away from taking that one even even further after the catch they'll put it in play from the 27 first down to the air it's Douglas fires to the big fella a most really good use of the tight end yeah good use of the big fella I mean go through your progressions real quick you can't find anything get it just too much heat quarterback right there outside of the top 100 in the country in saaks game but finally now you see they're generating this pass rush three sack and the ball is picked off God room on the return and they capitalized to the end of the half first half in the book time now to join Kevin Connors in our halftime update and the hokes will kick it away first and we'll start the second half and they thought about a return Addison sends the offense back onto the field not a lot of scoreboard fireworks from these guys in the first half but they've got a chance here after making some halftime adjustments yeah and remember it just takes one play to kick the door open and all of a sudden there's a lot more is it's such a low scoring game I'm still very much in this I can be who I am make a few tweaks make a few adjustments and get this offense roll hit hard as he really really good defense or listen you can spin on the other side this offense has really been bad couldn't connect on first down now back to the air and the quarterback time thought they had made the right adjustments but it's not looking like it right now they're still having issues keeping this guy standing up straight up front they're just getting beat AC he wants to go deep and that line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and The Return Man is man oh man these offenses just haven't been able to find any room to get things going David and to quote the great philosopher reys Davis this is very UNG good just nothing working for this offense Palmer they got to find something well the down coming up motion from the offense back to pass it's Douglas that one comes out hot down the right side and that's really give you a shot of momentum dances away going to try to get it himself and he's but they are going to go for it on four try to get it on the ground he's not going to get there looking for a productive play on first down used the play fake now to throw hit sitting at their own 25 with second and 10 he's looking to throw the Freshman able to got to protect your listen this offense is not playing great they got to someh and this defense is bringing the heat another sack the dues will try to pin them back with the punt doesn't say much for your drive when you're looking forward to the [Applause] punt James Madison sends the offense back onto the field they face a pretty tall mountain here Jesse down 24 but if they're going to climb it this is a good time for and the quarter as they come to the line looking to throw it's Douglas and he was hit this offense can ill afford to come up empty on this drive already trailing by multiple possessions snags it on the right and he's got enough for a first down now to see if they have enough time to snap it again here in the third we reached the end of the quarter of the third quarter let's take a look at how we got here to the air on first down pocket starts to collapse can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again they're bringing heat and he can't find a receiver and down he goes they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one and the defense loves being in this type of situation right you've got a big lead it's in the fourth and he throws his third pick of the day his head has to be spinning they get him on the ground after the turnover but there is a flag on the field and we'll see if that will be a repre passer and you still got the football they try to pop a run on the draw he's down it's second and nine he's looking to throw catch in the middle it's Knight down and the Dukes have moved it inside the 20 give to the back oh they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone dropping back it's Douglas they get enough Rush game going maybe handle football off but whatever we're doing let's go the opposite direction and no choice here the offense has to stay on the field down multiple possessions this leate fourth down attempt coming he got it back just seems to have a nose for the end zone of course he scored his last time out he's into the end zone he goes touchdown defense Ed the play fake now to throw unloads to the wide [Applause] out he's looking to throw trying to get to him takes a hit as he fires now they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here here dumps it to the back he's missed three in a row now with that last incompletion and the Dukes send out the punt unit fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt fair catch called for and made the attack this offense has pretty much been stuck in the mud the entire game it's and they they have had a wonderful day man doing everything great just you could tell they were dialed into what was going on and now just throw another sack of and not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 he wants a big play here late and believes you are given four downs for a reason you've got to use all of them two for three so far today and it's picked off for the third time you know there's no real reason to panic but if you think about it when just panicking every really help but certainly this was a [Applause]
