NOBODY Wanted To See The Detroit Lions Do This.. | NFL News (David Montgomery, Jameson Williams)

the players start to believe what the coaches kind of preaching of how to win like I think it was the manner of which it happened I think it was so uh probably important for the Lions it was a great game Dan Campbell and the Lions setting the tone the culture everything over there has changed for the better is that the most Dan Campbell thing that you can think of when you run the football you're moving a man against his wheel we're hard to break so we did what we had to do and uh you know our defense held there you know you guys I'm just going to go ahead and jump straight into the Detroit Lions at this point because uh this team man just played their first game in the regular season and man oh man did they impress me with what they were able to do I mean we already know that they put together a great offseason this year and they added a ton of pieces to make them a lot better team than they were previously and even though we've only seen one week of these new additions I do think that they're going to have a huge impact and it did make this team look better in key areas I thought the offense played really good and they showed us that they're going to be one of the best offenses in the league once again and then I also thought that the defense did a great job against one of the better offenses in the league which is super promising because that's what people were most worried about heading into the season so if the offense is just as good as it was last year and the defense is even better than it was last year this team is going to be one of the scariest teams you're going to have to play against in the NFL and if I was an NFL franchise I would not want to have to play them but before we get into why I believe that if you like Detroit Lions content just like this make sure to go down and hit that subscribe button so you don't miss any lions videos for the remainder of the regular season okay so to get right back on topic with the Detroit Lions I think we have to start off on the offensive side of the football because even though we were confident that this offense was going to be good you never know 100% if they're going to be but in week one they looked like they're going to be great once again and that starts with what they were able to do in this run game the Detroit Lions and Ben Johnson as we all know want to establish a run game weak in and week out and they want their offense to be based around that because if you have a good run game everything else feeds off of it and that's exactly what we saw happen against the Rams the Detroit Lions pounded the run all game long and you can see that on the stat sheet considering they rushed for over 160 yards and they also are pretty efficient at the same time they averaged well over four yards per carry and if you're rushing for over 150 yards and you're being efficient while doing it not many defenses are going to be able to slow you down and that's a big reason why we saw the Lions have so much success David montgomry looked exactly how he looked last year being the ground and pound guy that you can give a lot of carries to and man on that last drive and overtime when they really needed it we saw David Montgomery turn on a different level and he was running through pretty much everyone that tried to tackle him I mean the Lions went straight down the field and scored a touchdown without much resistance when they needed to and they did it literally by just running the football and that is something that most teams would not be able to do now jir Gibbs on the other hand wasn't as efficient as David Montgomery but he still did have a bunch of explosive plays not only in the Run game but also in the passing game and that's what you want out of it you want jir Gibbs to come in and give an explosive burst and I think we saw a lot of that from him but I do think we're going to see more of that as the season goes on which means in every game going forward we're probably going to see this run game have just as much success and that is going to be so so valuable for this offense now when talking about this passing attack I think the first guy you got to talk about here is Jamon Williams because he went absolutely crazy and he showed us why he was a firstr draft pick two years ago whenever the Lions drafted Jameson Williams two years ago I thought it was a great pick and I thought he was going to be great right off the bat but due to a lot of injuries and due to his suspension he hasn't really gotten to play in a ton of football games but every time he's gotten to play we've seen him get better and better as he's played more and more snaps and I think we're finally starting to see the true Jameson Williams the Lions drafted his speed is absolutely out of this world he can blow by pretty much anyone and man on top of that if you give him the ball with even a little bit of space he's going to make you pay because not only is he going to make someone Miss but he also is going to be really hard to catch so if he's in the open field it's probably going to be a really big gain and we saw that all night long against the Rams didn't matter if he was running a go ball and burning somebody or if he was catching a drag and turning it up the field for 20 yards he was doing everything that is going to be a huge part of this offense this year that makes them that much better now to go along with Jameson Williams you of course saw Sam Le pora get a few big catches as well which was really promising and those were the main two contributors in this game now what's crazy is Aman raw didn't have the usual game that he has so the fact that Lions offense was able to look as good as it did without Aman raw playing a big part in it is just crazy to me and it makes me not even be able to imagine what they would have done if am man ra would have got implemented a little bit more they probably would have put up 30 plus points and that's honestly what I expect from this team going forward especially if Jared G can play a little bit better as well now I'm not going to sit up here and say Jared G played bad because he didn't play bad at all he played pretty efficient and he put up decent numbers he just had a few mishaps and he of course had that one interception which is obviously going to hurt you a little bit but outside of that he did play pretty good and he operated the offense like he usually does and considering it was only week one he's only going to get better from here so if this was one of the worst performance that we're going to get from Jared G I would be pretty happy about that because this performance really wasn't that bad and man when you combine the Run game was pretty much Unstoppable with a passing game like we saw I just don't see a world where this offense isn't putting up 25 plus points a game like they did last year and if they do that they're going to win a lot of football games now what's great about this Lions team this year is they don't just have a great offense they're also going to have a great defense to go along with it in my opinion and that all starts with what they're able to do in the pass rush when you look at this Lions team as a whole you notice pretty quickly that they have talent all over the defensive line of course starting off with that guy Aiden Hutchinson Aiden Hutchinson has already proved himself to be a freak and he did that once again last night being all over Matthew Stafford all night long finishing the game with a sack and a ton of pressures he was basically Unstoppable and when Aiden Hutchinson is playing at that level there's just not much you're going to be able to do because all the rest of the defensive lineman are going to feed off of him I mean we got to see the new addition Marcus Davenport played for the first time and he played really good as well getting in the backfield a ton and getting himself a half sack which is obviously a really good sign because if both Edge rushers are playing really good you're going to give offenses a lot of trouble and that's exactly what we saw so I think we saw a lot of promising things from the defensive line but to be honest with you that's not what most people were worried about heading into the season what people were worried about most was the back end of this defense starting off with the linebackers and man I think the linebackers played really good football as well I think you obviously have to start by talking about that guy Alex anzalone who was all over the field all game long I felt like making big hit after big hit and he's made it known now that is the leading linebacker on this team he plays exactly how Dan Campbell wants his defense to play and if he continues to play like this this front seven is going to be really good you have him and then you have guys like Derek Barnes Jack Campbell and Malcolm Rodriguez to pair with him which makes up a really deep room and considering they all play pretty high level football it's going to be really hard for teams to run the football against them I mean the Rams were one of the better run teams in the League last year but the lions were able to hold Kiren Williams to just 50 yards on 18 carries which means he only averaged 2. eight yards a touch I mean that is absolutely beautiful defense and if you can shut down teams running games like this you're going to be able to perform really good on defense because it makes offenses two one-dimensional and that makes the defense's life a lot easier his Matthew Stafford did play pretty good and he did put up some pretty decent numbers but at the same time I also thought this lion secondary played really well and that is a huge huge component to this defense considering that was their weakest link last year I think we saw the corners for the most part play pretty well and considering terion Arnold as just a rookie and that he's only going to get better this is just the start and I think this corner room has so much potential and when you pair with that a safety room that has Kirby Joseph who got himself a big time interception and Brian Branch who played amazing as well I think this defense as a whole is just going to be really really good to go along with a really really good offense and if both of these units are playing to the level that I think they can I just don't see a world where they lose more than four or five games this year and they don't find themselves deep in the playoffs once again [Music]
