ESPN reacts to Myles Turner scores 29 Pts in Pacers 126-113 win over Bucks to take 3-1 series lead

the Bucks are now on the brink following an onslaught of long balls from the Pacers Milwaukee now Trails three games to one 126 to 113 year Final in [Music] Indiana CBS Sports NBA Insider Bill Ryder joins us now a record number of playoff threes here by this Pacers team against a short-handed both by decision pregame and action ingame Milwaukee team here bill and I want to start right there Giannis out Dame out but Bobby poris kicked out early in this one just a mistake you can't make a decision that really put his team behind the eightball how did that affect what you saw specifically on the def defensive side end of the court for Milwaukee yeah utterly unacceptable it doesn't matter what happened in that little altercation doesn't matter how frustrated Bobby poris is with the injuries to two critical teammates and the fact they know it's an uphill battle you got to control yourself and stay in the game and obviously they could have used a another top Defender especially for what's left on that roster a guy who can also go and get some points turn his back to the basket maybe slow things down a little bit look Joe I I commend the bugs I know the final score it look makes it look like a blowout because it was a blowout but that's a team missing three of their four best players as you you and I are talking about poris just had himself kicked out of the game total let down for his team and they still battled you put poris in that game maybe there's a little more heart and a little more defense and and maybe I think there's a world where Milwaukee makes a game of it and makes a series of it because now a lopsided one at that with two stars squarely in question if you're not coming out for this one you'd have to assume barring some sort of update or upgrade that you don't expect to see them for the remainder of this series depending on how long it goes but let's shift here to the Pacer side because some Applause are in order those record number of Threes 22 of 43 North of 50% from range they had four players with three plus made threes it's appeared to be the strategy but one that they pulled off excellently here in game four yeah we've said seen this in a few Series where in some games where teams are are overly matched or or maybe even Le match and that's not the case here especially with the injuries they just fire three-point shots and we've seen some teams get hot and give the Pacers credit this is what they did most of the year high pace of play score a lot of points don't play amazing defense better at the end of the regular season and they hope they hit a lot of those shots and man they they hit half of their 40 plus three-point shots again you're not going to beat a team on any given night when that happens and speaks to the fact that the Pacers are going to do what they know how to do and what they're trained to do and that is offense it's go for it try to put up 120 or 130 don't be afraid to fire away especially on the long ball and as you said to their credit they made more than half of those shots it's been the ree this season it's an incredible night incredible performance and and they're on the verge of winning a playoff series for the first time under Rick carile by the way because they've earned it despite the fact that yes Milwaukee has made it easier with injuries and in the case of pous bad decision- making taking a look at two of the key pieces in this Victory especially offensively Miles Turner and Tyrese halberton from range 12 made threes on 21 attempts fantastic stuff efficient from the field and you see the points there 53 combined of the 126 the Pacers scor in total bill we've been spending all season tackling the big ideas with this Bucks team and that's where I want to go because on a broader scale what would a first round exit so iMed immediately under Doc Rivers mean for the future of this franchise so this might seem counterintuitive Joe and I don't know if other colleagues here at CBS Sports would would agree but I ran up by a few a few folks around the NBA and they agreed I actually think to a degree it is a blessing in disguise if you believe and there's no way to know that Milwaukee might still have lost this series or maybe done poorly in the second round had they had deanis and had they had Damen lard because I don't see how you can come down on Doc Rivers or anyone else when you lose a series to anybody when you're missing for almost the entirety of this series your two best players and we throw in Bobby poris in this game critical game your fourth best player to go along with it in a critical game in a game four I think it buys them some time and the reality of the NBA even though nobody's patient anymore and there's not a big margin between teams in the East or the West so that patience is probably even shorter than it would have been the reality is Stars need a while to learn to play together and Damen lard and yianis Sant Dumba when they were healthy just weren't in Rhythm particularly effectively together Doc Rivers again let's give the guy credit whatever you think about him or you don't think about him did not have a camp did not get Institute his vision in a way that's normal had to do it on the Fly because he started as the head coach in the middle of the season and obviously a toxic enough environment that the Bucs fired a previous head coach when that guy had a winning record so you obviously want to advance the injuries are brutal it's not what you'd want but I think in a lot of ways it creates more time more forgiveness more understanding Joe for this Milwaukee team because I don't think there can be massive changes or if you don't want to make changes if you're John hor the GM I think this buys you the latitude to roll back next year to get healthy and be tested on that season and not this postseason it's a great point there that patience and the immediate return are two things that don't always reconcile in this league you're supposed to be able to put the best players on a court together and boom it works it's not the way it works and we're seeing that in real time here with these Milwaukee Bucks but the path forward perhaps it takes an offseason and perhaps that offseason is only days away here is there a path back in your eyes for this team with the omissions of nearly all of their Stars no there there's not and this is I think where there's a danger zone because Doc Rivers did tell the media today that that he thinks Jan can play in the series now let's presume he was assuming they could win this game and maybe that's a six or a seven we may not get to a six or a seven and he made a point of saying that while they don't know where Lillard is and he wouldn't speculate he did say they're not shutting him down now I understand you can't Telegraph to the opposing team going into a critical game that one or both of your stars aren't going to play you don't want to give them that boost but I think you do have to Joe push back on the temptation to try to rush either of these guys especially Giannis because this injury we know has led in the past to other serious injuries for guys we've talked a lot about Kevin Durant when he was at the Warriors and he blew out his Achilles when he came back from a calf injury after a lot more time away from the game than jannis has been so far so yes I think the series is over I think there is no way back unless one of those two guys play and if you're Milwaukee and I I'm obviously not a part of that medical staff and don't know what they see when they look e Giannis into a lesser degree Lillard but you got to be careful not to rush either of those guys because it's not worth it and the Pacers are good enough to win at least one game even if both of those players were playing which is not going to happen so the series to me is over and if you're Milwaukee just want to protect that future that I was talking about and not rush either player back if they're not ready long-term hope at the cost of short-term success could be the approach here for Milwaukee as this one gets closer to That Dying Light 3-1 now between these two Bill Ryder thank you all right most consecutive 30 point excuse me 30 assist playoff games these Pacers they're helping it out on the offensive end ball is moving ball is not stopping ball is finding the cup three straight 30 plus assist Playoff Games 33 assists here in game four to just seven turnovers e for more to Def to to e en we must act to to more to Lane Tower ATT
