Unknown man spotted on cameras inside Carmalt school, officials say

SCENE. MARCI, WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING? WELL, LILY, WE DID HAVE A CHANCE JUST A SHORT TIME AGO TO TALK WITH THE CHIEF OF PITTSBURGH SCHOOL POLICE. AND SHE CONFIRMED FOR ME THAT THERE WAS, IN FACT, AN UNKNOWN MALE INSIDE KAMAL. SHE SAYS THEY SAW HIM ON THE CAMERAS WHEN THEY WENT TO REVIEW. BUT AT THIS POINT, THEY HAVE NOT FOUND HIM. SO IT'S UNCLEAR WHETHER THAT MALE WAS ABLE TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL OR IS STILL INSIDE. SO POLICE HAVE GONE ROOM TO ROOM SEARCHING AND SHE SAYS IMMEDIATELY, ONCE THEY FOUND THAT HE WAS INSIDE THE BUILDING, THEY WENT ON LOCKDOWN. YOU CAN SEE THERE IS STILL A PRETTY SIGNIFICANT POLICE PRESENCE HERE. SHE SAYS THAT LOCKDOWN MEANT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. THE DOORS WERE LOCKED AND THE STUDENTS WERE HIDDEN INSIDE THEIR ROOM. BUT THEY HAVE NOW BEEN EVACUATED. ROOM BY ROOM. OF COURSE, WHEN THIS ALERT GOES OUT, THOUGH, TO PARENTS, THEY RACED HERE TO THE SCENE, PANICKCKED. WE HAD A CHANCE TO TALK WITH SOME OF THEM SHORTLY AFTER THEY ARRIVED. LISTEN, I'M JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE OKAY, THAT I CAN PUT MY HANDS ON THEM AND TAKE THEM HOME. YOU KNOW? AND I WAS SAD BECAUSE YOU NEVER HAD TO WORRY ABOUT STUFF LIKE THIS BEFORE. SO WHILE SHE RACED HERE TO THE SCENE, MANY OTHER PARENTS DID AS WELL. THEY WERE STANDING OUT HERE TRYING TO GET A GLIMPSE OF THEIR KIDS, HOPING THEY WOULD BE RELEASED TO THEM. BUT POLICE DID PUT THEM ON SCHOOL BUSSES. IN FACT, THEY'RE STILL DOING THAT GRADE BY GRADE, PUTTING THEM ON SCHOOL BUSSESES AND SENDING THEM TO THE REC CENTER NEARBY WHERE THEY WILL BE REUNIFIED. NOW, HERE IS WHAT THE CHIEF OF SCHOOL POLICE HAD A CHANCE TO TELL US ABOUT THIS INVESTIGATION. LISTEN. AND WE'VE JUST BEEN GOING ROOM TO ROOM TRYING TO FIND HIM. WE HAVE NOT LOCATED THE INDIVIDUAL IN THE BUILDING. WE HAVE OUR PEOPLE LOOKING AT THE CAMERAS TO TRY TO SEE IF HE EXITED THE BUILDING AT SOME POINT. THEY DID REPORT THAT HE WAS NOT. THEY DID NOT SEE A WEAPON ON THE INDIVIDUAL, BUT HE WAS UNKNOWN TO THE SCHOOL AND RIGHT NOW WE ARE DOING THE EVACUATION FLOOR BY FLOOR. RIGHT NOW, I DID ASK THE CHIEF IF SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO SEND US MAYBE A SCREENSHOT OF THAT SUSPECT TO HELP IDENTIFY HIM. SHE SAYS AT THIS POINT, THEY DON'T KNOW WHO HE IS. WE ARE WORKING ON THAT. SHE SAID SHE IS GOING TO TRY TO GET THAT TO US AND WE'LL PASS IT ALONG IN CASE ANYBODY KNOWS WHO THIS PERSON IS. BUT AGAIN, POLICE REMAIN HERE ON THE SCENE. THEY ARE CONTINUING TO SEARCH FOR THIS UNKNOWN INDIVIDUAL. BUT THE STUDENTS AGAIN BEING EVACUATED TO BROOKLINE RECREATIONAL CENTER, AND THAT IS WHERE THEY'RE TELLING PARENTS TO GO RIGHT NOW TO BE REUNITED WITH THEIR CHILDREN.
