don't I do to you oh yeah so just about set now and towing the slab Casey M Chris what should we keep an eye on here with him well this guy's just been filthy out there on the mound hitters batting under 200 against him and they're just having a hard time squaring up anything doing any type of damage the only way he hurts himself is he gives up the free passes and surrenders a rare home run but outside of that it's going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today that to right Carpenter makes the grab one away time to check out the Rockies lineup not a team that usually sees a lot of pitches or Works a ton of walks Chris they take a more aggressive approach than some of the other teams in the league they definitely have a few free swingers in this lineup hitters who want to Bey on the attack and that's great as long as you got pitches in the zone but if the pitcher is able to expand the Zone can be very difficult for an offense like this to get going you've got to somehow draw some walks put some Runners on base so that when you do have those free swingers come up you can cash in with some runs that are plated one out base is empty [Applause] two balls no strikes to [Applause] count yeah one down base is empty ree bow no stke [Applause] next pitch in for a strike and a count is three and one clearly taking all the way there in that three-oh count it was a cookie right down the middle and a foul ball the line in the pitch the 3-2 is off the outside edge and that is ball four batting third the center field one down here's the center fielder Brenton Doyle looking for his first big league hit right here [Applause] would chase that time toar the runner at first with one gone in the [Applause] inning next pitch misses way outside he hasn't wanted to challenge him both of those pitches off the plate away don't expect anything down the heart of the plate you may just have to be patient and take your walk here and another ball [Applause] that one fouled [Applause] off the 3-1 and there's the strike looks like he's just sizing him up there really good pitch to hit but he took it all away sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game that may be a Pitch that he turns on at the belt and FES and that should be extra bases toar around second headed for third headed for the plate he will score and they take the lead one nothing and he's a third with one away that's a triple so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big leag knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an IT bat he's never going to forget Ryan McMahon steps to the plate trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues that one way outside one and0 righty to the plate way outside now two and0 not showing great command so far in this at bat 20- count he's got to execute here or this could get LLY that one missed now three [Applause] and0 right Ander kicks deals fast ball for a strike and it's three and one Runner on at third one [Applause] gone right down to shoot three and two down got him looking and he did not like the call and that's the first strike out of his major league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he's set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers can sometimes get too caught up in try to rack up KS early in their career H I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting the ball over the fence and so for guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strikeout is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further two outs two balls no [Applause] strike pitch misses there and that's ball three Brendan Rogers up next for the Rockies two outs and a runner at third and we're just getting started here in the top of the [Applause] first that's it's the Rockies two the Tigers coming to B back at Comerica Park today's starter for Colorado number 29 Chris you don't have to dig too deep into the numbers to see how good he's been oh he's been nearly Untouchable kind of a Silent Assassin out there just goes to work and and guys look up it's deep into the ball game and they haven't been able to scratch anything off of this guy so look for him to do the same thing today maybe Go the Distance maybe hand it over to the bullpen at the end and try to get that W hard on the ground to First toia takes it himself and a quick out number one and now the Tigers lineup for manager AJ Hench this has been a good productive lineup so far this year currently ranking among the better teams in terms of total hits and runs per game well you know this lineup sees it as very important to put the ball in play boo I mean this is an age where strikeouts are up so high and guys are swinging and missing going for the fences but if you can increase that contact rate you can be a dangerous Club you get more guys on base and then all of a sudden when that big swing comes through you're plating more runs so we'll see if this pitcher can get some soft contact let the defense work behind it out towards Right Center that's well struck that's back see you later he'll Circle the bases his first Homer of the year and they're on the board it's 2-1 two pitches two swings that one for a home run looking to be aggressive all the way and it paid off for him in a [Applause] big why do you want me to apologize when I when you're working with this kind of velocity so critical that you move the ball around work quickly and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity he was all over that [Music] fast and next is the designated hitter mat clear length this one smoked out to left Jones snags it and there's two away not fooled at all right there he was clearly all over it but sometimes you hit it too hard and right at someone you're looking for one of those blue hits to get a knocked sometimes now here's the Tigers cleanup hitter carry Carpenter that one ripped right center field that'll make it out of here that'll fire up the Dugout it's their second home run of the inning and it ties it up it's [Applause] [Music] 22 love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an ADV bat you watch him from the on Deck Circle so you step in the Box you're ready to pull the trigger wherever it's at really good job by the hitter total conviction on that [Applause] [Music] [Music] swing so digging in Colt [Applause] p and a gr ball to First knocks it down he gets to the bag in time and they do get the third out of the inning but two round Trippers in this inning the long ball was working two two game you're watching Major League Baseball on the show back here in Detroit second inning set to go and now the right fielder Jake cage well after scoring runs this is where you're looking for that shutdown inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats that's way outside and it's w to [Applause] know wouldn't chase that time Patrick Johnson behind the plate Patty Johnson to sunbo but I'd ask permission first before I called him that does a pretty good job J back there occasionally we'll see a couple of sideways looks from players but that kind of comes with the territory right the wind of the pitch three and no well I would expect in this three-oh count you're taking all the way see if they'll walk you left-and hitter Waits guyses but a kicks off his glove not in time great effort but it's an infield hit and it looks like they might end up challenging this one very close play and we will take another look as well I couldn't tell in live action that's for sure and you know the Umpire is so much closer to the play and he thought he beat the throw so we'll see so they have decided to challenge the play and now it's up to the replay umpires in New York to make the call here's one more look they called him safe and I'm not sure that there's anything here to overturn the call what about you singi I don't think so Bo I mean we need something obvious to overturn it and I just don't see it so they made a decision and the runner is safe the original call is confirmed and that leaves them without any challenges the rest of the way upon video review the umpires have upheld the call of safe at first B now here's Nolan Jones that's outside and that's ball one not giving him a pitch to hit there isn't a bad thing he's dealing with a great first pitch hitter up there next offering way off the plate oh he's really working him away this sbat sometimes take a little bit off velocity try to get a roll over something on the ground stay away from that big hole on the right side of thefield now three and0 [Applause] see if he gives him anything to hit here fouls one away and now three and [Applause] two k gets his lead at first with nobody out ouch he had two strike on him and he hit him well he just couldn't get out of the way of that one and that's not an easy thing to do when you got a fast ball coming in hot and now Drew [Applause] Romo and the first offering is not close and delivers outside could be some action here on this next pitch couple Runners on probably a challenge pitch coming that one misses and that's ball [Applause] three and here it comes and that one is in for a strike [Applause] hard hit to third tags the runner for one and two what a play so the Rockies lineup turns over there's Chuck nasty and there's one thing on his mind it's great when you can take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here first and third two away next for Colorado Ezekiel toar he walked in came around to score his first time up count Short Stop takes the [Applause] ball Runners out first and third two away here at the top of the second and another ball [Applause] and the next pitch is way outside Brenton Doyle and the Colorado on Deck [Applause] Circle here's a [Applause] three-oh f back ourway and that's out of play 3-2 two out runner on first lot of movement in the infield hitters got to stay focused on the pitch in the air out towards Right Center sizes this one up drops into the glove and that's the third out two left for Colorado score remains [Music] 22 and welcome back to the ballpark we have bottom of the second and now the first baseman Spencer Tolen the W to kick the pitch now it's beled deep to left way out of here home run a massive home run and they jump ahead in the second it's 32 that's their third home run of the game they're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they've got the long ball working for them on autopilot well he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time took a direct path to the ball excellent extension and just drove it out of here nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like [Applause] that knock down but I'm there's you can do to me keeping my dreams sometimes life is not what it seems sometimes just stuck in the extremes when everyone else seems to be in the corner enem so up next Jace [Applause] Young [Music] back back to back homers always a special feeling at the Ballpark especially if it's your team that does it and those guys get to slap hands at home plate this is the kind of thing that can really fire up a ball [Music] fub and next to hit for Detroit Trey Sweeney liner caught it second that'll drive you crazy as a hitter if you let it I he couldn't hit that ball more on the screws than he did and yet he's got nothing to show for it hang with him I know the feeling Jake Rogers up now for the Tigers swings and Blast One deep to left Center that's back there going gone a solo shot their third home run of the inning and they add a run it's five and two that's their fifth Homer of the game man they're all getting into the action it's starting to feel like a home run derby up [Applause] here so the lineup flips over Parker Meadows digs in now that one ripped this looks like extra bases and that's going to roll to the wall he's in at second with a one- out double partner Meadows with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you can take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you ballpark here's Bud Black towards the mound and we're going to see a pitching change here number 29 departs and this is one he'd like to forget back with a new arm after [Music] this so the Rockies turn the ball over to a new arm Ryan feltner on for his major league debut so we'll see if he's ready for the big stage he just has to remember this is the same game that he's played all the way through the minor leagues to this point the only difference they're just more people in the stands and it's a bigger Stadium but the game itself is still the same look at the catcher whatever fingers he puts down that's what you throw and just let him Lead You In This one whips it to first on the run that ends the frame of the bun attemp they bring nine to the plate and six come around to score we play two full it's the Tigers eight and the Rockies two and we're back on to the third inning so in now for Colorado Brenton doyley well every pitcher wants run support and having a lead is nice but it can be challenging for some pitchers I think keeping the mindset to attack instead of trying to be too fine and have too much finesse go after hitters and get quick outs wouldn't chase that time go Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this game that misses all three it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens [Applause] offering is in for a [Applause] strike highfly ball out to center field Meadows settles under it huls it in for the out now batting third Bas Ryan McMahon so now it's the Four Hole hitter Ryan McMahon his first hit bat was a strikeout when you talk about Elite defensive third baseman this guy is at the top of the list stud when you look at Players like this you play that Hot Corner got to be pretty courageous over there with the way balls come off the bat that's the kind of guy that every year you expect him to be in the All-Star Game and have a gold glove if not a platinum glove that misses and it's a ball on a strike so what are the skills you look for that make a really good defensive third baseman that Elite well boo one of the things I think about immediately are just the feet does he have good feet is he able to quickly react and when you have Good Feet you've got soft hands and soft hand Defenders are able to make tough plays look [Applause] easy and another [Applause] ball one down base is empty highfly ball pretty well struck out towards Right Center way back there and [Applause] gone he flexes his power with that swing his first Homer of the year and they're chipping away it's 83 knew what pitch he wanted to hit spit on some other pitches in this hit bat was very patient and it paid [Applause] off so one out nobody on here's Michael toia doubled in his first a [Applause] b that missed by a lot ball one toia a tall first baseman hitting fifth in today's lineup a former first round pick back in 2019 one run acrossing the frame so far here in the top half of inning number three next pitch misses way outside looks like he's being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up doesn't want to make another mistake next pitch is outside get out of here Ro fast ball for a strike taken all the way on 3 right there and as a hitter you're saying why couldn't I get that pitch earlier in the count when I'm looking to [Applause] swing headed down the line green going after it and they're two down well those can be pretty fun as an outfielder got to put it into His Highest gear and go a long way to track that one down nothing better than that you feel like a wide receiver playing football [Applause] Rogers the next to hit takes outside not even close there and it's two [Applause] and0 with chase that [Applause] time next offering is in for a [Applause] strike this one in the air brings it in for the third out the Rockies get one by way of the long ball it's now 83 you're dialed into the show as we go to the last of the third and here's the first baseman Spencer tolon the pitch there's a swing and a drive and one hops Off the Wall should be extra bases and that's a leadoff double everything came together perfectly for him right there showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball and let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit so man aboard Jace Young up now for the Tigers that one ripped and it one Ops the wall they extend their lead as the runner scores from second and it's 93 seeing some good swings from him right now with consecutive extra base hits everything was mechanically sound with that swing right there I mean that's pretty much what you're wanting to to replicate with every rep you take you have good balance Barrel directly to the baseball and good long extension after contact out in front of Home Plate man there are a lot of dumers on a swing like that and next up for the Tigers Trey Sweeny he's over one Zack bunt towards third gathers and throws the first one gone bottom of the third inning number4 [Music] Rogers Jake Rogers up now for the Tigers and Chris his big strength is defense but it is interesting in today's world of baseball compared to when you played a good defensive catcher is considered differently whatever you get offensively is a bonus but he's got to put the fingers down he's got to present pitches to the Umpire they're going to help his pitcher get more strikes out on the off-balance throw [Music] Parker Meadows up now for the Tigers one for [Applause] two and that one hammered that's back there Banks Off the Wall run comes in from second it's 103 and he's into third with a two out triple comes through with the RBI I love the hustle out of the box man he drove that baseball and he was thinking triple right [Music] away Riley green getting ready to [Music] hit a bunt and it's popped up and makes the play and that's out number three they get two runs on three hits no errors and one left on to inning number four tigers 10 and the Rockies [Music] three back here in Detroit here's Jake cave now clearly down in this ball game and you can't look at the deficit and try to get it all back in one swing it's got to come one at bad at a time and even shrink it down smaller pitch to pitch make that guy on the mound work to get you out first offering misses badly for ball one [Applause] outside kicks and Deals re B no [Applause] ST and there's Ball Four definitely lost the handle during that sequence four pitches for the walk and that last one didn't even threaten The Zone CER might want to go talk to him next to hit Nolan Jones he was plunked in his first trip to the [Applause] plate that's way outside and that's ball one maybe losing command a little bit after the walk next pitch not even close kicks and fires two and0 and another [Applause] ball left hand B weights and he walked him on four pitches Bo do you think you could draw Walk In The Bigs if we gave you enough at bats oh that's a good question um I think that if they gave the pitcher a false scouting report on me yes I think I could draw one Romo the next to hit takes ball one here's an opportunity if you're going to get back in this game you have to take advantage of this situation this feels like their chance way outside and that's ball two two walks in the inning already and he just doesn't seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them no outs Runners at first and second ground ball could be two oh can't pick it up cleanly they throw to Second and he's going to make it to First and we'll see how they score looks routine but it hasn't been so easy for this club defensively this year and you got to make those routine plays behind a pitcher helps him to get more comfortable and move through this ball game Blackman in now takes ball one off the plate the Tigers up big in this one top half of inning number four would chase that [Applause] time and another [Applause] ball two on one out that one pushed foul out of play off to the left the pitch bounc to the right side base hit and a run in to score now [Applause] e Ezekiel Tovar digging in for the Rockies the short stop takes the ball that misses the zone and the count is two [Applause] and0 and there's a ball no let's see if he gives him anything to hit here and strike two I can't lose ball outside and that is ball four oh he's been in a very giving mood today so the bases are loaded here one gone after a quick break so they turn to the vetan pitcher in this spot Kent MAA a tough spot to make your major league debut with the bases loaded man no kidding trial by fire I guess but I got to think they would have rather given him a chance to make his debut in a less stressful situation and all I can say is best of [Music] [Applause] luck that one missed pressure's on right here two- count BAS it's the DH Matt [Applause] beerling feltner back to work in the air center field drop steps heads back on it high bounce takes it over the fence for an automatic double well there's something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that you get to stroll in the second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty and now you're just looking for the next hitter to kind of do the same thing maybe put one in the Gap so you can jog home as well so man aboard Carri Carpenter up now for the Tigers hey and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed [Applause] hitter smoked to right center and this one's going to go out of here and he's gone yard again his third home run of the game it's 124 singy the ball is jumping off his back yes it is tons of loud contact man it's been [Music] impressive he's putting on quite the show with the dish here in this one and he's just so locked in with this swing and he's just not missing right now three Homer game and so special and I tell you what it's a lot of fun to watch it pull it off as well man righty reliever out of the pen Victor bod on for his major league debut and a moment he will never forget better believe that it's always so special the first time you get into a big league ball game I did it as a position player but for him as a pitcher sure there's some nerves there probably don't want to squeeze the baseball too tight just relax and do what you're capable of doing and now here is Colt Pete dro a bunt down the first base side he's safe on with a bunt single col Pete with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to expected though well this was a game looking at the pitching matchup where you expected offense to score and not as lopsided as this um but yeah you definitely expected to see some offense coming up highfly ball out towards left field Jones raging back towards the wall can't get to it as it drops into the corner around third he's safe picks himself up at RBI really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could handle allowed himself to stay back just T bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws and up next for Detroit Trey Sweeney and a sack bun here now the throw to first on the run two gone up next to the Tigers the catcher Jake Rogers Jake Rogers up now for the [Applause] Tigers and that bunted towards third mcmah that ends the inning and they limit the damage three runs four hits no errors and one man left on to the top of the fifth we go the tigers are out front [Music] 13-4 and welcome back to the ballpark new inning getting started here's the Rockies cleanup hitter Ryan McMahon as he turns on the Rubber and with that good live arm delivers and ball one [Applause] and delivers [Applause] outside and the pitch wouldn't chase that time let's see if he gives him anything to hit here and a four pitch walk they just keep handing out gifts boo were we supposed to bring something see I think just our presence is the present so a man aboard now it's the power speed combo Michael toia first pitch not close the Rockies with a lot of ground to make up and we're in the top of the fifth slider misses outside back to- back breaking pitches away you get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you that he doesn't want to challenge you so I think the confidence level is raised right here and another ball [Applause] it go get him and ball four there I mean that pitch was right down the middle I think he got a little too excited came out of his mechanics and instead of driving that ball somewhere he popped it up unfortunate for him Jones up back and stepping in is the Speedy Parker Meadows and a pitch bounced out to short toar throws the first and that's the first out of the bottom of the fifth well Bo we talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher's hand the way it comes out of his hand as an infielder wow really impressive now the number two hitter Riley green one for [Applause] three trying to bun his way on picks it up with the bare hand and that's a great play for the out man he made that look easy didn't he I mean there's nothing simple about that play boo especially when you break it down but right there everything was done in one fluid motion to deliver a strike over to First just in time for the out tell you I could watch that all day two outs Bas is empty Matt verling now at the [Applause] plate now a drag BNT Third Base side and he's safe at first well singing that was really nice looking able to get it down and in a good spot and he makes it look easy bad angle was perfect Barrel stayed above the hands and almost walked to first so up next Terry Carpenter and a chance to make some history here Chris yeah he's homk three times so far and now he gets another chance at least we think we'll see if the pitcher gives him anything to hit it's so rare to see a three Homer performance but even more special for that player to get another chance at the play to do it again for four puts a bunt down to First and he beats it everyone safe so two on with two away and next to hit for Detroit Colt [Applause] he all night long I like the way you Mo [Applause] and he lays one down the left side mcmah they take the force out they don't come much closer than that bang bang play to end the [Music] inning all set for the top of the six and now the switch hitting catcher Drew Romo Drew Romo Romo in his rookie season 22 years old and he was a second round pick in 2020 the wine of the pitch slider misses outside wouldn't chase that time and another ball no stri let's see if he gives him anything to hit here he swings and hits a Fly ball center field on the Move hauls it in for the out and there's one away now it's Charlie Blackman that one's in there on one base is empty one away and
