Mike McDaniel on Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane INJURIES, plus more about Tyreek Hill

there was uh um it's it's not it wasn't shock it was sadness um uh right when you see it and then um uh in the you know for an hour or two afterward um what was that Monday night uh you know spent time talking that's me and you guys have plans for a setup in this situation here yeah so good morning uh so just to address running back expect to have andon On th um Rahe no Devon um we'll see how it plays out today um Thursday night games um are probably the uh it probably should be your triggering point Barry because like I have I I don't you know like you got to every um I mean you got to realize what is what is today today is um Wednesday right okay um guys are just you typically um we don't have our when we do have padded practices we don't even have them till Thursday because typically after an NFL game Wednesday guys are still working through their ailments from the game previous so um it it will uh there's several guys that will will be feeling out um and uh and go from there like I asked you about this at the owner meetings with Tyreek and his off field adventures and had you guys talked to him about them have you talked to him after this latest uh episode and and what was the response if you can share any of that with us uh meaning like uh like what I I the the the marina and um the incident with the social media influencer just the things that he's gotten into off the field have you have you talked to him about you know try straighten up or anything like that well no absolutely you you I talked to these guys about everything that that occurs um good and bad um I talked to Tyreek about um all the all the days that he's not in the headlines because there's a lot of those too so um and you know I think I think it's important to uh just just as people um and you know in my role where I'm trying to um find every way to to to to squeeze out um max all the potential in a human being um the the the name of the game is growth and and I think um a lot of times you know uh it it it is what it is like you're you held accountable for the things that people know um and when you uh are in the headlines in any negative way that's that's the that's every everyone's timeline that's fair um however there's there's much more to that sometimes there's um while you're taking a lot of steps forward there's a step back and we we we talk through everything um so that uh you know we can be our best versions of ourselves which um I think uh Tyreek um has has is a different human being than when I first met him um uh just continues to evolve uh and I think that's uh that's the nature of of a lot of guys joury right now was what was your reaction to the body cam video um yeah uh I think I've spent I think I'm like emotion out um so I'm going to uh try to try to use words that don't um I I mean I just enough people have seen me cry um but there was that there was uh um it's it's not it wasn't shock it was sadness um uh right when you see it and then um uh in the you know for an hour or two afterward um what was that Monday night uh you know spent time talking to some players um uh on the phone and then uh spent some time talking to uh some staff members that I uh that I knew um with with our history together that had experienced um similar things um firsthand and yeah you you just don't that's not shock but but sadness for sure now that you've seen the video is there anything you think Tyreek Hill could have done differently in that situation yeah I mean there's always always things you can do you know I think that's our we are conditioned here um and what we talk about every day is things that that you can improve upon you know and I think it's important to say that I mean that's a a totally separate um totally separate conversation than I think uh should be the one focused on at hand um but for sure and um absolutely uh those things are those things are that's the first thing you do um when when you're talking to an individual directly um and then uh but you know I think uh the uh a conversation about um a conversation about what provoked unnecessary is Trivial to the to the unnecessary when did the chest injury occur during the game um it was early and and part of the procedure um on our team um you know the working relationship that I have across the board it's very much need to know um and in in a situation where uh particularly running back where we we like to rotate um he was working through it uh during the game um and I've learned you honestly might be the last guy I will ask if they're good like because um he he he's the I mean and quite literally case in point um his injury uh not many people play with so like the information that I get from him when I ask him he's going to tell me he's good um but uh that it was uh he he he showed his tough um he just gave gave his teammates another example of how how he is built different is this an injury that is rest related primarily for Thursday night's game on a short week or is this an injury that could sideline him for a couple of weeks um I I would say closer to the former um but not ruling out the ladder I I'm but it's like right you know my my sense is um you know that you know my sens is it's it's not something um that uh that time won't uh take care of um however I'm definitely not going to make him worse by setting forth my expectations of when he's going to play again ikenberg ikenberg is always okay you know Mike can you take us through your hoodie Miami different it kind of seems like the S what does it represent oh um I forgot what I was wearing um and it's uh it happens to be it's just black on black but it's it's a t-shirt um and I think uh I don't know um the a early attachment I made um in life uh from my vantage point um was uh uh greatness is inherently different so the if you're trying to um win more than you you lose if you're trying to do something um you know that that maybe the organization hasn't achieved in maybe 24 years if you're trying to um uh uh stand stand out in the world I think um I think I think different is uh analogous um with with uh you know everybody that's achieved anything is inherently different than um the uh the rest of the population so I I think leaning into that I think um creating our own standard for what we think uh our our football should look like creating our own standard for um how we treat each other and um how how we go about our brand of football uh I I think um Miami uh the Miami Dolphins um the word play Miami different all of it plays a part of it but it's something that um I kind of have to lean into um because have you seen me you know I mean so uh it's something that I think think uh that that uh describes the way our group of uh uh players coaches and and the building what they're what they're attempting what they're working towards is to be different team produce shirt team produce shirt This was um uh I I generally allow all all information um to come at me before we start doing um designed shirts and I think this was a this might have been a 3 in the morning Tuesday this past t or the Tuesday previous um to get it done uh before our first game back to Tyreek for a second we could hear him in the the video saying I just had surgery on my knee and kind of alluding to some discomfort he was in what can you share about any surgery he's had or if he's expressed to you in the past few days of any comfort that he's been in no um uh minor procedure that uh you know he he makes sure that he takes care of and uh uh keeps out of uh compromising positions as best he can control before this season yeah yeah the off off seon yeah sorry Zer uh off I had send oh man can somebody send me a screenshot of that tweet so like I could I can see it like CU I was a part of it sort of I I felt it I felt the keystrokes Z Seer he said uh it's time to take the East he said it's time to take the East let's go for it I'm gathering that um with this being Bill's week you you Embrace that theme and that I'm sorry I'm sorry kid I get the question again the the the mid question camera raise while I make what like I no it just spooked me but I get it no no go ahead and I just wasn't prepared for it I can do it again and listen I you're trying to capture the beginning of the answer I got it so coach McDaniel Z heer said yesterday it's time to take the East let's go for it I'm assuming that with it's being Bill's week that that's um um a theme and a mindset that you Embrace and endorse yes um the uh you know uh if you want to do anything this league um generally uh you can't skip over the much mandated step of winning your division um and the uh there's one team that's won the division consecutive years um that you could say that uh they they by de facto um own the own the Division until somebody takes it from them so um that that's just I think it's pretty obvious um but uh you know I think it's also something that um they they they have earned and you know we would we would like to be in a situation where we earn the same thing and there's one way to do that you got to beat your division opponents and we have our first of uh um first of uh six division games so between Jaylen Ramsey and Jaylen Phillips on the short week uh could they play a similar snap count that you saw on Sunday uh could they have an uptick you have to draw back a little bit which one yeah the uh that that is very much uh in all literal terms so we're planning on the gray we have to plan for uptick same or um downshift uh and in the short week that's that's what's tricky is you kind of don't know until they're at the stadium you know so uh it it just takes um an extra layer of of preparation that um guys are are definitely prepared for thank you all right
