FIRST INTERVIEW | Lyndon Dykes on signing for Birmingham City 🔵✍️

Lyndon first of all thank you very much for sitting down and a very big welcome to the club just how excited are you to get going yeah really happy to be here um you know it's a massive club and speaking to Craig and the manager and where they want to get to in the future it was a no-brainer for me to come here um and also you know I wanted to be somewhere where I was really wanted and they they showed how much they wanted me and and yeah really happy to to be here and hopefully start soon and what was it that convinced you that this was the right move at this stage of your career yeah I think obviously speaking to the club and the manager and that where this club wants to go obviously at the moment we are in League one but where they're going for the future they've gotten a clear aim and it's it's ambitious and it's like like myself as a player I'm ambitious I want to get all the way to the top and hope for that's with Birmingham just touching on that a bit more there's over 150 appearances for you at Championship level with the way that this club is is looking to go getting back to the championship and then beyond how confident are you that you can play a big part in that yeah I'm really confident um you know I want to get this club back to where where it belongs and even further I think we should be going up to the Premier League in time but we need to build that cuz at the moment we are in League one but you know we've got quality players here I've been keeping an eye on the team and stuff and I'm sure we can do it but it's not going to be easy there's big teams in League one and we have to make sure that we are switched on and we're we're taking all points when the when that's needed Yeah you mentioned talking to the manager and also Craig Gardner as well what is it that they've sort of said to you so far are they big fans of your game yeah just obviously spoke very highly of um my game and obviously just football in general we we all aligned on the same level and um like I said before you know they're ambitious and they want to get to places and so do I so um yeah everything aligns very well and um when they showed me the whole the whole Outlet of where the club's trying to go and the players they've got and the new training facility um you know it's it's a top class Club of course you've had quite the journey over your career starting out in Australia then moving over to Scotland and and now in England did you feel like this was the the perfect next step for yeah I think it was um you know I think I needed to get back to somewhere a fresh start um get back you know playing consistently and um and that's going to be here so hopefully we can we can kick on and have a great season know devastatingly you only missed out on the Euros this summer due to injury but you were just called up again by Scotland how important is is it for you to represent your country yeah it's really important um you know I've been there for a number of years now we've had lots of success um you know is very disappointing to get injured just before the Euros it would have been my second Euros um and the way it happened was just a bit unfortunate but I came back positive um and you know I'm I'm just happy to get back on the pitch with with with the boys at QPR at the time um you know I started I finished the season last season very well um and I started the season you know a little bit bumpy with my injury but um you know I've scored scored one goal already in the championship and hopefully I can keep keep that continue is it important as well that you perform really well here so that you can keep getting chosen for Scotland as well yeah definitely um you know Scotland's a massive part of me and it's it's it's helped me to get to where I am um now and I love playing for Scotland I love you know representing my country and playing with those players against you know very high um Quality players in other nations so yeah I want to do my best um so I can get in the squad but um my main focus is obviously at Birmingham and if I'm playing well here then obviously the Scotland thing will just happen as you mentioned as well you're already up and running this season and scoring that goal against Sheffield United really important goal as well do you come here feeling really sharp and ready to get straight out there yeah I am sharp um you know obviously everyone knows I got injured in the summer and it's been a little bit of time getting back um so yeah I just it'll be good to get out with the team you know get some some uh minutes in my legs and um you know just try and be out as as soon as I can and and I'm feeling sharp and I'm I'm looking like I want to score some goals absolutely there's a huge amount of talent here especially in those Wing areas they're there to get balls into you as well how will that suit you in your game yeah it will suit my game um you know when I spoke to the manager I was very clear on what he wanted and and I liked it a lot um you know as a striker you want balls coming in you want chances and and then that's that's that's what you want um every game so like I said before the squad that we've got here is you know is is very good it's very strong um so it's going to be competition all around and boys are scoring up front here already so I'm just happy to be here I want to work hard and um hopefully fit in well Lyon thanks very much for sitting down with us and welcome to the club thank you very much
