So please welcome to the show, dancer, choreographer and author Melanie Hamrick good morning. Anand, thanks for coming and you for having me. are you still doing a lot of dancing? You know, I we just said you Cori. love to see those pictures came about like, oh, wow, I remember I'm not dancing as much because writing is taking up a lot of my time. But it's a great way to stay in the ballet world still be a part of it and trend, you live vicariously through my characters Yeah. And you're who enjoys apparently he has some great moves to. loves the side. He 7 and he's going between. Do I want to be a dancer to I want to be a soccer player. coming back to dancing and singing La. >> Tribe La. Yeah. It didn't have the patient's. But 11 takes hip-hop. A nice loves have power nearly. Yeah. It's just great. Little learning some problem but he's still got mama's most. Yeah. All right. So this is your second book, right? Yes, the unraveling. So first, let's go back to the start from your first. Is this a second part of your first a sequel? You don't need to rebook but it is continuing one of the characters story. Jocelyn, it continues on her story, but it's a fresh start. We met her in but one and I loved her so much. >> She wasn't and that she just kind of came out of the blue. And when I was writing first position. And everyone had such positive things. So I wanted to focus on her story and her tail and she's a dancer in the first book. Yes, LA Ally. Yeah. She's a ballerina in the second book, but we need her and she's taking a break from the ballet and you can never really take a break from the valley even when you retire in the valley. There is no taking a break. And of course, she finds her way in the Valley world. Yeah, it's really taking a closer look guest cutthroat world of >> about and she's doing a bit of unraveling. She is not. mean, it's it is a romance. It is a fiction romance. So it's fun to explore that side. I mean, every side has the darker side I learned about the novel. The author signed on But I felt it was a great tale to And everyone probably go, sir, hard time at some point in their life and they can relate with what she's going yesterday. >> I had read before that you had someone been inspired by 50 Shades of Grey days. Is there a little bit of that in this book is? Well, yeah. I would it's more like 17, 18 and up or eats. Okay. Yeah. Not for children They're used tally world. So is it at the is there any kind of personal story that inspired some time? it's all inspired by and I looked at 50 Shades of Grey and I looked at the success of the movie Black Swan. Yeah. Yeah. And how it was mainstream but also they took bit of so many different things that can happen to different people the stage mom or >> unfortunate habit with food and they put it into one character or the, you know, competitive Ness. And I kind of took that and put it. You know, and and elevated to make taking the to making a little sandwich with is to really inspired me about. And then just because it is fiction, you get to have. >> Every time, you know everything about your book now and blacks. >> And you so beautiful, but you don't really know that it's like so. >> Cutthroat. Yeah, it's a bit behind the gilded current, right? So what do you tell like parents of aspiring dancers or aspiring themselves right now who are like? >> Well, that's a really want to do this. But like there's so much drama behind the scenes, think with any world there's going to drama and competitiveness. You're an elite athlete. And I think just having a great base like I tell like when touched ballet classes and talk to parents be there for them be their support system, be a place for them to come to it there if they need, you know, good family, a good friend. And I think that always just makes everything better. You know, you have you have your family. You have good friends. And, you know, you can rely on them when you're having a hard time because it is a hard field. Yeah, you know, it's competitive. It's long hours. It's long days and it's short career. Sure. Yeah. So I think just having a good base. What are friends, though, in the Valley world saying about say about your books, they want rent your your first book to that. They want to know who it is. no, it's not. >> We added to that. And about that book. So they love to like tease me like is and fun. Good stuff.
