BORNE ILLNESS CAUSING CONCERN IN PLYMOUTH. ALL PUBLIC PARKS AND FIELDS WILL CLOSE FROM DUSK TILL DAWN. AFTER MOSQUITOES THERE WERE FOUND POSITIVE WITH TRIPLE E, IT ISN'T THE ONLY POTENTIALLY DEADLY DISEASE CONCERNING OFFICIALS. WE ARE MONITORING CLOSELY THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH SOUNDING THE ALARM ON A RISE IN WEST NILE VIRUS. EIGHT MASSACHUSETTS COMMUNITIES ARE NOW CONSIDERED HIGH RISK, INCLUDING BOSTON, FOR BETTER OR WORSE. NOW, BECAUSE WE'VE GONE THROUGH IT, HAVE THE MONITORING MECHANISMS AND ARE IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH ALL OF THE HOSPITALS, REALLY THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE REGION. AND BEYOND. THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH SAYS SO FAR THIS YEAR, THEY FOUND 262 MOSQUITOES POSITIVE, WITH WEST NILE VIRUS. THEY SAY TWO PEOPLE HAVE TESTED POSITIVE. BUT DOCTOR TODD ELLERIN WITH SOUTH SHORE MEDICAL, SAYS FOR MOST PEOPLE IT DOES NOT CAUSE MAJOR SYMPTOMS. IT'S THOUGHT THAT FOR EVERY 150 BITES WHERE PEOPLE ARE INFECTED WITH WEST NILE VIRUS, YOU ONLY HAVE ONE SYMPTOMATIC CASE. BUT FOR THOSE WHO ARE HIGH RISK, A SEVERE BRAIN INFECTION CALLED ENCEPHALITIS IS POSSIBLE, WHICH IS BASICALLY INFECTION OF THE BRAIN. AND IT CAN N BE VERY SERIOUS. IT CAN CAUSE SEIZURES, CONFUSION SOMETIMES COMA, AND RARELY CAN LEAD TO DEATH. EVEN WITH THE RISE OF MOSQUITOES POSITIVE WITH THE VIRUS. DOCTOR ELLERIN SAYS PEOPLE SHOULDN'T BE OVERLY CONCERNED. SO WHILE WE'RE SEEING IT SPREAD SIGNIFICANTLY IN MOSQUITO POPULATIONS THROUGHOUT MASSACHUSETTS, YOU KNOW, I THINK WE HAVE TIME TO TO PREVENT THIS, THIS INFECTION. I JUST WANT TO PUT IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE YOUR RISK OF ILLNESS, YOU SHOULD CONSIDER WEARING LONG SLEEVES, WEARING BUG SPRAY, AND AVOIDING GOING OUTSIDE DURING DAWN AND DUSK, WHEN IT'S ESPE
