Local girl makes hockey history

a Morgan Stickney is used to playing with the boys on the junior Kings but now she's the first American female to get drafted in the Western Hockey League by the Portland Winter Hawks Jill painter Lopez sat down with a 15 year old Manhattan Beach native to talk about her journey and career aspirations when you put on all your hockey gear what do you feel like every time I put it on it's just a chance to get better and it just feels like a safe place for me and it's like the best part of my day every day and what attracted you to the sport of hockey why'd you start playing I started playing because my brother he played hockey and he needed a goalie one day and he just kept me out on the ice I loved it and she actually started figure skating I don't know if she shared that with you and she just said hey I want to try hockey and I'm like okay and she was really young like five years old and went to a Daryl Evans Hockey Camp and just loved it and you know hung up the figure skates and never knew that again and just moved on with hockey what's the goal for your future to go somewhere division one and it would be so cool and hopefully eventually like getting a chance to try out for the U.S national team beat unreal you have an opportunity to be Morgan's goalie coach what is it about uh Morgan and her game that you think has made her so successful Morgan's attitude for life has made her successful she's always smiling she's never bothered by Bad Games never bothered by a good game she just enjoys hockey and everything that comes with it you got drafted by Portland what was that like in terms of how you found out it was crazy I was just looking at the draft list and then I saw my name pop up and I was I was in shock and all my friends ran into my room because they saw the news and it was just stuck so I just happy for because I know it wasn't easy and I know it was a lot of Blood Sweat and Tears to get over there when little girls see you here what do you hope they say like oh there's Morgan Stickney what do you hope that they think about you I just hope that it inspires them to just love the game and I have big dreams of the Olympics and just that I had the same dreams and I was in like when I was the race my daughter's now a goalie as well and from the first day she stepped on the ice Morgan went and held her hand and made sure she felt comfortable made sure it was a place that my daughter wanted to be in she's always been a special human and we can't wait to see what she accomplishes in the rest of her life you go Morgan go get
