Is Pete Crow-Armstrong the next STAR for the Chicago Cubs?

we continue to talk about if the Cubs can get a star but maybe they already have one you are locked on Cubs your daily Chicago Cubs podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day today's episode is presented by our great Partners at prize pick go to prize.com lockon MLB and use code all lowercase lockon MLB to win $50 instantly when you play $5 since July 26 seventh pink Crow Armstrong has showcased Elite defense Elite base running and has completely turned around his season offensively in these 40 games PCA is slashing 326 367 533 with five home runs seven doubles three triples and eight stolen bases if you're Elite at those skills of defense and base running but below average to average at hitting the managers get a find a spot for you every day and if you're average to above average at hitting then you're a core member of the team maybe you win a gold glove maybe you finish top 10 in steel something like that but Sam if you're above average to to good and then some at hitting with Elite defense and Elite Speed you are a perennial Allstar and maybe even soaring to bigger things than that you know the the level of which he has played at since that marker and and and you could even Loop it just to make it easy and that's what I'm trying to look up while you're talking you could even you could even just look it up the second half of the Season just just the second half of the Season he's batting 284 with a 327 on base 465 slug if he could be that guy for 160 the Cubs are going to be really really good next year I if they bring back the exact same team and they get this version of PCA now now that's on Jed to not do that right because you want to you always want to assume the not right you wanna you want to say hey even if we get we don't get this we're going to be a good team but that's not the point of this segment if the the Cubs get second half PCA I'll say it again 284 327 465 792 Ops five homers three triples seven doubles uh uh nine steals whatever it is if they get this version they will be a really really good team that's how that's how impactful uh um he has been and he is the type of player that I don't think Ops does his impact Justice I don't think of the things does do it justice besides maybe winds above replacement he has gone into Los Angeles he has gone into Los Angeles against a team with probably the best player in the world Freddy Freeman mookie bets and we still have game three he's been the best player in the series Bar None uh offensively defensively uh he he has had Growing Pains of course and he will continue to have them and that's the big question is this surge is it going to continue to stay here or will there be another downturn if there is it's extremely acceptable but you know the Cubs can really really use the consistent play and I would even go as far as to say this Matt the Cubs need to learn how to handle a player like this and I'm gonna give you an example I don't know how much of the ball game you had a chance to watch on Tuesday night and it was a great win and I'm excited to talk about it but there was a play that really had me ripping out my hair do you know where I'm going with this right I do know where you're going was it a situation with PCA on First and Amaya hitting right yes you have to learn how to hit behind PCA if he's going to be on base with one out two outs whatever you know I'm not asking you to give up a strike even though that's what I would do as a manager just say let him let him take because you gotta also remember Austin Barnes can throw he was behind the plate yesterday but to bunt the baseball behind him like that was and and you know me I'm Pro small ball but that's not small ball that's not smart ball that was really troubling for me um and and needs to have a conversation because this is a dynamic weapon that you have here you have to understand this isn't prototypical baseball this is oh the no you have to do certain things to let this guy do his thing let him go get all the balls he wants in center field let him steal the Bas all steal the bases let him do stuff that might be a little unconventional because he's that dang good yeah and I wonder if he hit in front of I mean really it's most of everybody else in the lineup that would pay dividends you know what if hit fifth or sixth and I'm not saying he will on March 18th of 25 but right really you could see any of the other dudes besides maybe Amaya and and I mean that's that's all I could come up with I have two guys I have two guys and then Paredes hit sixth you you know great minds second and zuzuki hit third I have two guys I'd really like like to hit behind him in 2025 you mentioned one of them isach Peres and then the other one would be niik horer because I feel like Herer if he's on this baseball team because I feel like Nico Herer could is comfortable hitting with two strikes and you could get so creative with the hit and run and all that good stuff now who knows it's it's it's remain to be seen if Craig will play that way but um I'll go as far as to say this I'm ready for PCA to be our lead off hitter March 18 2025 wow I'm ready I I've seen enough yes the on base probably isn't what what you'd like to see but I want that guy hitting as much as he can I want him running as much as he can that's a dynamic player this is a dynamic player and you know he has a chance to be a star he really does and back dating it to the 40 game since July 27 it's it's fun and like PCA is and I'll get more to that in a minute or two but he's produced two wins in these 40 games according to Fan graph Sam wow even if you just backd it like you did the allstar game maybe that's like closer to 1 point7 something like that yep but if you extend it out to the 162 that's like a six to eight win player which is a star player yep yep take a listen to these names in front of PCA and War what is it good for Jed hoy on records saying heyy we like we like that metric there's only seven players in front of them wait since since when since when July 27th Matt Chapman erny Machado Frankie Lindor Corbin Carroll Vladimir Guerrero Jr Bobby wit and Aaron judge that's fun fun it's a great word and he's injected life into a team in which multiple times we've described as boring yes he's made this season better yep he's made it more fun to watch He's mustat TV he robbed a home run for the last out on Tuesday he made three unbelievable catches on Tuesday come on SO lot to look forward to with this kid no I'm telling you I was you know x equals PCA man that goes back to I believe in this kid Man X equals PCA is end of 22 is that a late 22 thing it's a lateer 22 thing yeah after the season or even in the season don't remember okay just it's wild it's wild what he's doing it's fun and Fun's the word Fun's the word what tonight when I'm laid up watching this game you know I've been I've been watching in my room kind of you know you know in sleep mode having the TV on maybe a little snack and uh you know whatever I'm doing maybe I'm watching a show doing other things when he comes up everything stops phone goes down wow computer goes down I want to watch l a lot of screens over there yeah well that's why if the Cub sweep tonight you may see me debut my glasses on my post game short that I'm going to try and post so um but um this guy didn't get a hit last year right and and you know it was it was obvious and by the way I am so excited to watch him come back to the place he debuted this weekend and get some Revenge as a as a new and improved player and just dominate cor's field I expect I expect more than one triple this weekend maybe an inside the Parker it's not out of the question Matteo it's not out of the question all right well he was a big part of that comeback win on Tuesdays the Cubs took the series from the Dodgers with won the play wonderful seg let's recap that coming up next this episode is brought to down three to one going to the eighth Inning on Tuesday the Cubs scored five runs to win 63 and take the series from the Dodgers PCA did Rob a home run for the final out showed to imaga went seven Innings allowed three runs on seven hits all solo homers no walks for strikeouts Cubs are now 21- six when imaga starts which is 28% of their wins on the year the two best relievers right now Nate Pearson and Porter hodj pitch the eighth and the ninth and Sam I'm wondering what your favorite parts were Andor main takeaways from this one well we talked about PCA so that was my favorite part uh I thought imaga was good you know his numbers were good it's becoming a little unsustainable with the Home Run ball always being solo uh thought he was a little overaggressive with Edmond there the second time through but he was good uh no question about it uh I thought SE Suzuki had a really strong game I thought his at bats late he had a really good clutch AB I believe it was the eighth that was the beginning for the Cubs it was I think it was 31 uh they it was a four- pitch walk to hap then they brought in Phillips to face Swanson Swanson hits that Tapper over to Austin Barnes throws it away two on nobody out and seya worked a long at bat against Phillips lined base hit and then Tommy Edmond threw the ball into the Dugout uh which gave the Cubs which tied the game I thought that was the biggest AB of the game uh got some help from the Dodger defense I I assume they're going to clean things up uh tonight but um yeah it was just a really good overall win there was a scary moment there in the ninth uh with Porter Hodge um so he was pitching and and he kind of started grabbing at his chest uh and uh like inv visibly was having some trouble I don't want to say trouble breathing but was like you know breathing really heavy trainers came out he took a knee and I was really surprised yeah I I was really surprised he stayed in the game uh to be honest with you but then we learned after the game from Megan monturo that this is he's had this happen before uh where his heart just starts going too fast and he just needs a minute or two and he's been checked out uh and so he might get checked out again that was a scary moment in the game it it wasn't a good moment at all for Dodger fans because they were booing and I understand that uh yikes yeah and and look you always boo when there's a delay and stuff but once a player is grabbing at his like solar plexes and goes to a knee probably probably time to stop um let me get you let me get you um Megan monor's exact she because she nailed it um uh this is a tweet uh any updates on Hajj haj's heart started racing to point where he became concern Council said Council addage H Hajj had it happen before and just needs a couple minutes to let it go away told them he was good to go once a cal been checked out and cleared before likely to get looked at again for Craig Council interesting timing there and I only say that because I know Kenley Jansen uh missed the rocky Series this year because of uh yeah something similar so I wonder I wonder if he'll be sideline this weekend that's a great call I didn't put the that's probably a similar thing that they're dealing with as well and maybe they justum and make it retroactive to today you know with the off day tomorrow it's kind of stretching it but maybe it's helpful to him and and I don't want to get off topic it was a great Cubs win but I think in those situations just as a fan watching that yesterday and no disrespect at all to to trainers but I would love to have a doctor come out for something like that yeah you know like have a doc like I was just kind of like why this guy's grabbing his chest and he's and he takes a knee on the field is there a doctor nearby to just make sure before he throws another pitch you know what I mean I don't know it would be worth looking up because maybe the home team has one that's shared you know I'm sure they do I just thought that was a time for him to come out or her to come out yeah absolutely um you know so yeah was whatever anyways on a on a much lighter note it was a great win and um just seems like the Cubs are a different baseball team uh uh away from Wrigley uh many ways are offensively you know right right and that will be hopefully inflated for good you know coming up this weekend we'll preview Cubs Rockies more for Thursday for Friday's episode uh I don't have a good memory of last September to be honest when they played the Rockies oh I do um I do well I meant it like I don't want to remember it oh oh oh oh yeah no it actually was last year in August I have to look that up but no no no they played Colorado in in in September I believe okay yeah I just know it was down the stretch and it wasn't good well because right if I I if I if I remember correctly they lost three out of four against the Dbacks I think oh the same road trip at no at Wrigley then went to chorus then got swept in Arizona I think that's how it went I think that's how it went they lost two out of three I believe they won an Extra Inning affair with a big Yan Gomes base hit and then they and then they they blew a couple leads especially game three I believe they blew a three nothing lead early so yeah this is not getting too ahead of ourselves again we're going to preview it next episode but they got to win two out of three this weekend the Rockies have lost 91 games yeah but they're dangerous at chorus D I know but not not I'm not saying a sweep I'm saying just I'm saying two no they do they do need a win two so all right well coming up next krie wood and Aramis Ramirez were inducted into the Cubs Hall of Fame last weekend and they both cited a specific season as some of their their favorite memories uh from their cubs careers so I wanted to introduce a I think this is a new segment throwback Thursday stay tuned today's episode's brought to you by tonel for those of us who thrive Cubs Hall of Fame last weekend they both cited moments from the 2003 season as their favorite moments ever oh and I got those moments that we could remember and discuss and then I have uh just some reflection I wanted to do and um go over a certain lineup and things like that so yeah fun third segment here and did did they give specific moments can I guess them yeah I I think it'd be fun for you to guess them well I think Carrie Wood's favorite moment would be beating Atlanta in game five of the of the of the nlds yeah so that's what I thought he was going to say too I he did it oh got it so well then but you're on the right track with playoffs for both guys did he really say his favorite moment was the Homer in game seven yep that's weird because they lost a game odd yeah okay I mean that was the loudest I've ever heard Wrigley Field in my entire life life um and it's just kind of a weird moment because he didn't pitch very well in the game seven um and he ackowledge that it was in a loss but yeah that's that's actually really interesting I know I know huh and then Aramis I guess aramis's favorite memory had to have been I mean he had a Monster Series against the Marlins if I remember correctly and I believe he had a Grand Slam in game uh I think it was game four okay no I was gonna I was pretending to leave but honestly my cord situation here makes me stuck so yes so game four against the Marlins what else do you remember about that oh man all right so I remember yeah he had he had a I think he had a grand slam is right okay so that was the game and the game is right yeah they blew out the Marlins because game three was the Doug Glanville triple late where they won late yeah so yeah so I I I remember a grand slam the only other detail would be the pitcher oh who who it was off of otherwise you've been 100% right oh was off dantro Willis yeah yeah well that's that's cool yeah you got that you remembered all that it's not a surprise I remember that series well that was that was really the first season I followed from one to 62 why was that two of them yeah uh uh uh Sosa Homer game tie and G uh game one offer bean I wasn't at that game I think that was their closer's name orbina um yeah game I think that's right then game two Sosa hit a ball into the camera well over Center Field clubs blowout then they stole game three game three was that that tight close one and then they blew out game four and then Becket crushed him in game five and everybody knows the rest I think this is going to be easy for you but maybe not the other thing that was brought up in these interviews what a fun team that was was The Loft and Ramirez trade of course and krie wood talked about it too and great players they were 50 and 50 when Jim Hendry credit to him made that trade yeah it was a bad division that year they only won 88 games yeah they went 50 and 50 to 88 and 74 so what I did was I took the lineup uh from that first game with both of these dudes in it and that was a July day against the Astros and what should we do here would you like to guess the lineup do you want me to say it what what do you think because I don't I don't want to you know I don't need to to to to drown people with my tri you wouldn't know the score of this game would you no no no no I don't I don't remember let me do that first so they won 53 over the Astros yeah no if I know that then that's went eight and a third who that's that's a thing of the past Joe barowski got the final two outs for the save big Z was was a heck of a heck of a baseball player but they didn't waste any time with the lineup it was Lofton bralon Sosa Al Ramirez Kos yeah yeah Dam Gonzalez bakoo got it and big Z M it made Park then yeah no minute made park now is it no uh I don't know no no I think back then it was actually I think it's minute made park now I the juice box yeah it was called a different thing back then yeah yeah so all right well good memories yeah no that 03 team man those two guys you know it's funny because aramus didn't have a very good 07 or 08 postseason which is kind of harsh because they played three games each time um right but he was he was wonderful in the 2003 playoffs and kry wood was really really good until uh game seven and those guys that's where like the analytics and stuff you understand where it comes from because I personally feel this is just my opinion you know everybody talks about I don't even want to say his name because it's just so disrespectful the the whole the whole game six disaster which never should have been never never never never never never should have been a thing uh it still like bothers me that that P that that that happened to him um just such a disgraceful thing for our fans but what really lost what really lost us that series was that wood and prior were cooked man they had thrown so many pitches 100 plus I was at Mark prior's complete game one of those games was a blowout they could have pulled him so much earlier well in this game that I pulled even big Z threw 120 pitches right and that's where I I I think baseball has made steps forward I just think that there's a there's a twe there's a a between you don't have to go so far to the way okay hey let a guy Finish versus not or at least train him but the the prior thing you know I just think the eighth inning happened a couple plays didn't go his way of course you know we we Bobble the ball and then he was also gassed and wood was gassed because that team was that team was so good I know they only won I only I I know they only won 88 but wood prior Z brono Clement Aramis Moises Sosa Arrow uh uh gry and uh uh Gonzalez up the middle that team was loaded and Carri wood led the Major Leagues and strikeouts but yeah I think it came at a price and and don't don't sleep on how good of a player moisa saloo was man yeah he was a baller and Eric Carroll's like shot apparently shot all this video and he's never released it well because they didn't win oh okay I'd like to see it I'll never for I don't want to relive it never mind I don't want to NE things are Vibes are good I don't want to do that all right we'll be back to recap in full Cubs Dodgers preview Cubs Rockies and more thank you they sweep if they sweep you might see me tonight checking out this edition of lock on Cubs you give us 20 to 30 minutes we'll give you all things
