Colin Rea Throws Another Gem for the Milwaukee Brewers

this Milwaukee Brewer team doesn't make excuses they just go out there bounce back from any adversity they get and just keep winning and in first place by a healthy margin that's com up next here on lockdown Brewers you are locked on Brewers your daily Milwaukee Brewers podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day I don't know if you're like me but I I check the standings every day and I love looking up when I see the standings and I look at see the NL Central and I see our baseball team the one that was picked for fourth or fifth place in this division in first place by not one not two or three but seven games on the Chicago Cubs the St Louis Cardinals Cincinnati Reds teams that were picked ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers in this Division and here they are just continuing to just be amazing I they're just like amazing every night aren't they he go through a three game skid against Philadelphia and we're thinking oh boy oh no and they go to Detroit take two a three come back Toronto Blue Jays are red hot Brewers take care of them rather no not rather handedly but dominated them with their pitching 3-1 on Monday night we're GNA get to all that coming up here uh the news on Robert Gasser I just the more I read on that it just doesn't sound any good and Murphy commented on ad and the Brewers are starting yet another rookie on the hill on Tuesday all this coming up here Chuck Freeman locked on Brewers part locked on podcast Network we are your team every day longtime sports caster here in the great state of Wisconsin covering all of our sports teams but my favorite Milwaukee my favorite team is the Milwaukee Brewers been going to games since 1975 when I was really really small 1975 July of 75 Brewers Red Sox Rick Wise almost through a no hitter against the Brewers broken up by George Scott July I think it was late July of 1975 one out away from pitching a no hitter against the Brewers I have not seen a no hitter live ever that was the closest when I was like seven years old or so but great to have you along again Google Spotify Apple you get us on all the major downloads where you get all your all your podcast whatever podcast you that first deposit match up to a 100 bucks buddy of mine called me up today said boy I got a feeling the red hot Jays are going to come to town and they're going to beat the Brewers tonight said don't ever bet again against the Brewers don't you didn't you've done this before it's my buddy of mine he'll like he lik somehow he he thinks he keeps going back to the sports book thinking that well this is the time to bet against the Milwaukee Brewers they got swept in a three game series against Philly he said W man they're going to Detroit Detroits are on the 500 Mark said don't do it did it anyway did it Saturday he came back in again on Detroit on Sunday won some of his money back and he call me up and say God I got to go on the Blue Jays no don't ever don't ever not these resilient Milwaukee Brewers and and I love yes I was saying I love looking at the standings look at the standings every day look at the standings and seeing the Milwaukee Brewers with that healthy seven game lead in The Division I know that can go be gone in a whisper I know I get that but being seven games up at this point when so many people so many prognosticators said well this team was going to finish toward the bottom of the division maybe even in last place and that was with all all everybody healthy everybody healthy I remember I was on a a network show when Deon Williams went down and the host asked me well boy they're not going to have Devin Williams now certainly they're going to finish in last place in this division they have uh they've lost their manager what are they going to do they lost Corbin Burns what are they going to do man they've Lo Tuesday night is going to be the 12th different starting pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers for a first place team but each and every one of these guys is doing their jobs just like Colin Ray Colin Ray Monday night goes out pitches seven Innings on three hits 34 years old basically a journeyman pitcher but going on making the most of his opportunity making the most 34 years old not exactly a spring chicken but that was his longest start in eight years 2016 and he goes out there and gives him against that lineup well I mean the Jay's lineup has been struggling okay but still there's some there's some punch net lineup seven Innings on three hits on 85 pitches and longest outing in eight years Colin Ray but it's like that it's that kind of outing that the Brewers keep on getting they keep on getting these these outings out of nowhere from guys guys coming up and doing their job you know even like Robert Gasser calling him up you know they lost I believe just one time when he was healthy and pitching um so but I mean no matter who they call up there are guys on this team pitching who are just flat out keeping this team not only afloat but keeping them with a healthy lead in the NL Central I love it man uh just watching this team play and who knows where they're going to end up you know we keep talking about sustainability and what's going to happen and the Brewers need this and that what's going to happen when all these guys get healthy what's GNA happen you know we're seeing you know Garrett Mitchell taking his first at bats on a rehab assignment uh tonight got a base hit I believe in his first at bat you know some of these other guys are on the menend uh junis going down to Arizona uh making a a couple of making a rehab appearance down there DL Hall is getting closer DL Hall is getting closer so stuff like that um the closer I mentioned about Devin Williams when that National Sports talk show host asked me oh there're certainly going to finish in last place now because they don't have Deon whams this Trevor Miguel who they picked up off the scrap heat from the twins last year has been just great gave up one base hit on Monday night opposite field base hit but he got out of the inning terang made a nice play behind second base and Migel is doing Migel given the job to save games is doing that for this team is doing that so many guys and it's just fun to watch it's fun to watch because I feel like there's a new hero every night when they win yeah you know sometimes you look at it and it's like man they struggle they can't get out of their own way they're they tied the season High of 13 games over the 500 Mark with that win so as bad as it was you a week ago when they got swept in that three- game series by Philadelphia here they are now nobody else in the division played so they gain a half a game on everybody seven game lead in The Division I don't know I'm just fired up about these guys yeah are they the 82 Milwaukee Brewers no are they the 87 Milwaukee Brewers one of my favorite team no or the 92 Milwaukee Brewers no but they're a lot of fun to watch they're overachieving and they're sustained ability who knows all I know is they got a nice lead in this Division and they got to keep it going we're going to talk about Robert Gasser another speed bump that the Brewers are going to have to overcome here and I hope this is and I and you know what yeah could they use gaster in the lineup certainly but at this point you feel more for the future for the kid we'll get to that coming up next here on lock down Brewers lock down Brewers part part of lock on podcast Network we are your team every day good to have you along here and uh you know we got to talk on MLB iBot is IB o TTA and you get that wherever your app store is this is czeck Freeman here on lockon Brewers part of locked on podcast Network we are your team every day good to have you along by the way my uh Twitter account cheze Freeman F re m and D Robert Gasser the news on him Pat Murphy during his pregame you know the manager of every major league baseball team every professional sports team except the NFL will hold a a little press conference before the game with the manager it's it's pretty informal but he'll sit in a Dugout and members of the media will ask questions about injuries lineup whatever who's hot who's not whatever's on your mind and it's a a really relaxed atmosphere so Murphy will sit The Dugout or Council before him or ranik or whatever so Gasser was brought up and um Murphy says you're probably not going to see Gasser anymore this season everybody's like whoa and this is back to what I was talking about yesterday when he was talking about that second opinion on his elbow and that second opinion on gas's Elbow says it was recommending reconstructive surgery but also says that well maybe rehabbing the elbow could help those are two different worlds right there reconstructive surgery on the elbow I mean that's that's a that's at least a season you would think uh rehabbing the elbow through um you know however they rehab the elbow that's another another thing it just seems like when a pitcher though rehabs the elbow and and and does not oper surgery he always ends up having surgery anyway so I'm wondering and Gast is getting a third opinion obviously wants to avoid surgery but the sooner he gets the surgery the sooner he gets back on track and it's a tough road to rehab uh but the sooner we get him back out there doing his thing a pitcher never wants to have arm surgery shoulder surgery you know any of that like but it might be in the cards again the second opinion says reconstructive surgery on the elbow and it just even sounds bad that he needs reconstructive surgery does he I mean you don't like to hear that but my gosh I fear for the kid I always do no matter who it is even other teams when when they pitcher when a guy you hear about a guy blowing out his arm or his elbow and you think man young guy his bright future ahead of him you hope it goes well and I love hearing stories about guys coming back from such surgeries elbow surgeries back surgeries you know Ross coming back back from uh the type of surgeries that he's had in the last three years I mean that's a great story that's great you love to see guys like that succeed so we'll see if he does indeed have the surgery I'm worried though if he does not have the surgery and he goes through rehab and then down the line you know five six months from now they decide well we need to do the surgery because this isn't working and then we wasted six months of his future so we'll see but right now it sounds like according to Murphy we're not going to see Gasser anymore in 2024 I was kind of thinking that anyway you know again when the guy goes for a second opinion or a third opinion you know just reading the leaves there that it's just not going to be anything good um so that's that uh Carlos Hernandez is going to make the start uh C it up on Tuesday night we're back to 710 starts we had the six 640 starts but we're getting in the June now we're at the 710 starts um Hernandez was you got off to a slow start in the miners uh but was the international player of the pitcher of the month International pitcher of the month for May uh his ER is still over five four and five record um but he's going to get the start another young guy coming up and we're going to start the clock on his six years with Carlos Hernandez making the start and what's always cool about something like this is to see his family and friends and all that hurrying their way to get to Milwaukee to see him make his start we see we see this with you know these guys all the time who are making their Major League debuts fans and uh friends and family rushing to whatever Stadium the Brewers are in or if it's at anfan field rushing to Milwaukee Planes Trains and Automobiles just to see their kid pitch and that's I'm sure we'll see that and the cameras will be on it uh coming up Carlos Hernandez making his major league debut uh coming up Tuesday night for the Milwaukee Brewers against Toronto Blue Jays uh so we told you about the injuries with junis uh minor league rehab Hall getting closer as well uh but you know the Milwaukee Brewers just love this man love this team we're coming right back we'll talk more about that coming up here in a little bit here on lockon Brewers lock on Brewers part of lock on podcast Network we are your team everyday FanDuel and I was talking about my buddy laying a buck or two un teams the Milwaukee Brewers play and I I always I try to talk talk them off the shelf but FanDuel FanDuel right now uh 200 bucks you FanDuel they're giving new customers $200 in bonus Bets with wi winning $5 bet but you got to go to fanduel.com slash locked on slash locked on yes to get that uh $200 in bonus bets rolling with any winning $5 bet FanDuel America's number one sports book check for you been here on lockdown Brewers part of the lockdown podcast Network we are your team every day we're uh coming right back after this timeout lock on Brewers part of the lockon podcast network uh again you get us at Google Spotify Apple YouTube search locked on Brewers uh the Brewers will continue a series with uh the Home St Cincinnati this weekend looking forward to that the Reds had won seven at a row before the Cubs beat him on Sunday but big series coming up this weekend got to take care of uh the Jays coming up someone tweeted at me and asked me Chuck when you sit in the stance for a game do you keep score at games I do you know back in the day they used to and if you're watching me on YouTube there was programs you'd get at games they'd sell them for well in the 70s they were like 50 cents or what you could do is if someone left the program underneath their seat after the game I mean they were not you were stealing it you weren't stealing it at all uh you were you know somebody just left it and you know the ballpark was emptying out and they didn't want their program anymore and he would take the program and take it home and he'd score like if you're were coming to the ballpark the next time or the next game you would take the you would take the score scorebook right out the the scorecard right out of there and just mark it that's what I did anyway as a kid or you get autographs on on a scoreboard on the scorecard now today or they don't give a program anymore they don't have programs they have scorecards they have the scorecards that they at Anam field think they're like two bucks my kid always wants to get one and keep scoring all that but I think he loses interest like by the third inning I end up doing it but I love keeping score games even if I'm sitting in the stands I feel like keeping score at a game kind of just keeps you in the ball game so when I go to a game I go to a Brewer game yeah if I'm sitting there on a Sunday I'll H hustle over to the Pro Shop there you know the team store and get me a program or get me the the scorecard $2 I like their scorecards they got nice big boxes on there to write things in and um yeah I I try to keep scored every game I think it because of baseball baseball when you're at a baseball game you have a tendency to lose some focus a little bit unlike maybe a football game baseball game there's a casual atmosphere you're sitting around there you're talking the people and all that but I feel like when I sit in the stands I uh I feel more locked in and I I like to buy the scorecard some people bring their score their score books you know as you see these thick books that people bring and one guy was showing me his pad and he had he had games from like 10 15 years ago in there hundreds of games and it was really really really cool and he was showing me Yep this is where uh Manny P hit a game-winning home run and this is where Bill Hall hit his home run on Mother's Day in 2006 he was showing me all this it was a really really thick book so it was cool so whether you bring a scorecard or a score book whatever man I think keeping score at a game is awesome and I'll I do it whether I'm setting in the Press Box or setting in the stands and especially I'm sitting in the stands because I'm trying to teach my teenager well he's a teenager now 13 trying to teach him a few things um but yeah score cards somebody tweeted at me do you keep score at games I certainly do not only in the Press Box but what I'm in the stands as well now the thing is when you go up to grab something to eat with a hot dog or something like that I always end up with a few of the stadium sauce shmears on my program on my scorecard so which is okay because that's just part of it so if you're going to have mustard or you know uh whatever grease from a pretzel on your scorecard don't worry about it some guys like to have uh use a bunch of different color pens and pencils no I just use one but if you have smears and all that that's okay that's all part of the experience so if you get a uh hot dog staying on there you get uh maybe you get some uh nacho cheese on there that's okay that's going to show that that scorecard was there in living proof while you were working as covering the game or as you were sitting in a stands uh watching the game but keep your score always always very cool keep it right to the end too make sure you put that final out in there too but someday I will see a no hitter I told you at the top I've never seen a no hitter in person when Carlos brono was pitching the no hitter for the Cubs against Houston in 2008 I was there for the first three Innings of the game and I left I wasn't covering I just went to the game and then I left it was a Sunday night had to work the next day and all that so all right that's going to do it for the show today Chuck free been here on lockon Brewers part of lockon podcast Network we are your team every day Google Spotify Apple you get us on all the major downloads please hit us up on lock on Brewers on YouTube and by all means follow me on Twitter check free but f e i m u n d Carlos Hernandez making the the start it was rumored over the weekend he was going to get called up and he is indeed going to pitch on Tuesday for the Brewers against those Toronto Blue Jays let's keep this going seven game lead feels good doesn't it seven game lead in this in this NL Central Division all right we're not thinking Wild Card we're not think we're think a division title and yes and trying to get the best record in the National League I know that's kind of of a pipe dream I get that but still would be even cooler if they got a first round Buy in the postseason but let's go ahead and win the division first see you all tomorrow everybody go Brewers check Freeman on lock on Brewers
