This Pat White WVU Offense Will Legitimately BREAK College Football 25

Intro in today's video I'm diving into the explosive West Virginia Mountaineers offense from the Rich Rodriguez era and showing you how you can bring it to life in college football 25 between 2005 and 2008 the Mountaineers redefined what a spread offense could do using a Relentless ground attack led by the electrifying Pat White and dynamic weapons like Steve Slayton and Darius Renard West Virginia's offense spread defenses out to unleash their incredible Run game then used creative ways to move the ball through the air once defense is committed to stopping the run this approach consistently ranked their offense among the top teams in points per game peing at number three nationally in 2007 with Pat White's dual threat capabilities and dynamic playmakers all over the field West Virginia dominated on their way to two BCS bll victories and leaving a lasting Legacy as one of the most Innovative and exciting offenses in college football history now we are going to break down the formations and the Run game that we are going to use for this West Virginia Spread Double Flex offense starting off with the two by two spread formation and this was a go-to look for the Mountaineers offense and we are going to be using the spread double Flex formation the spread looks Force defenses to spread out to match the width of our formation which can lead to some huge run Lanes up the middle then when defenses over play to stop the run this can open up shots down the field to attack through the air so the runner RPO we are going to break down in this formation is going to be Pa HP swing in spread double Flex here you want to come out with your swing going to the wide side of the field then once you snap the ball you you'll get a play action fake then your running back will Arrow out to the flat and you're going to have some linan pulling out in front of him and you can just drop it out to him and he can get out into the open field and this can turn into a Super explosive game now this is going to be a new section I'm excited to include in my videos here we're going to break down what we can learn from the real life implementation of the West Virginia scheme and how we can apply those strategies to our offense in college football 25 okay so PV Swing for PV swing I like to run this to the wide side really simple concept here we're just going to fake the hand off and basically we're just going to give this guy time to get out and we're going to have a tight end at least one lineman out here sometimes another one will sneak out and you're just going to get in Behind These two and you really want to make sure you are setting up your blocks run with patience here let these guys get out in front actually make their blocks before you explode out from behind them if you run this and we see the user overcommit to this side we do have a backside screen as well so you can just throw it to the other side of the field we're going to have a blocker out in front first in him we make a few guys miss we pick up 13 yards the West Virginia offense under Rich Rodriguez utilized split back formations to maximize their Dynamic backfield and we are going to be using the formation split slot this setup enabled diverse option plays like the Zone read and triple option game leveraging Pat White's dual threat capabilities the formation also enhanced their play action pass game and allowed them for Creative motion and misdirection which kept defens is guessing so the run we're Split Slot looking at here is shovel option and split slot this is going to be our version of the triple option for this scheme and it will work like a normal speed option on the outside but now we're going to have three reads if the defense comes at the QB you can pitch it to the outside if that's open if the defense stays on the outside you can keep it with your quarterback and then lastly if the defense plays at the QB and is over playing to the outside to stop the outside running back you can pitch it inside to your other running back making this play super dangerous I like to run it to the wide side of the field and basically it's going to work like a speed option we're going to get out on the edge if we suck this defense in we can just click R1 flick it out to our running back and get out into the open field the second kind of element is we can keep it with our QB so if we get out on the edge and we just have no one coming in on us everyone's kind of caught inside and we can just keep it with our athletic quarterback get out into the open field and make a big play then the last part of this play and this is where it gets really cool is we have the inside options so right here you can see they totally overload to this side then on the inside we're actually going to have a pulling guard coming across leading our inside running back so if they overplay to this side now we can flick it back inside right there pulling guard leading through the hole and we can make a guy Miss and we are gone right here this how you run the shovel option it can be super deadly then West Virginia's offense frequently use trips formations to spread defenses horizontally and create mismatches and we're going to be using the formation y off trips this allowed patwe to read defenses more effectively and exploit Open Spaces with his passing and running abilities so the run we're looking at Y Off Trips here is RPO read y flat in y off trips here to set this up come out with your tight end of the wide side of the field then I like to motion him across to the opposite side of the field then at this snap we just want to read the r icon player and it will work like a normal read option if this player crashes down then you can just keep it with your QB and as this is happening you're going to have your tight end darting to the flat and if the Defenders come in on the quarterback then you can just flip it out to your tight end and you should have a ton of room with blockers on the outside with the RPO read flat definitely motion this tight end across I really like the timing and how this works better and then it's going to be a read option we want to read these players we suck these guys down but they're actually coming in at our QB we can just flip it out here and because I think we start this guy motioned over and then he comes across the field I find it really dumbs out these players a ton and you can just get a ton of open grass with this tight end Arrow especially if you motion him over across the formation first here I ran it without the motion over you can still run it the same way we're going to read this player if he crashes down we can get out to the outside but you see how much quicker this player gets out to the flat I just like the timing so much better when you motion them over first but as you can see normal read option we kick up some really big yards here it is going to be with the motion player but if we look out here and they're playing read option defense on conservative we can always hand it off to our running back get up yield first and 10 we pick up 8 n yards and West Virginia's offense wasn't just about the Run game they also had a potent passing attack that kept defenses on their toes utilizing a combination of quick passes to attack underneath coverage and play action deep shots to push the ball down the field then key passing Concepts like mesh routes quick Slants and play action roll outs allowed Pat White to make quick reads and deliver the ball accurately and these go-to Concepts were essential in complimenting their dominant ground game ensuring a balanced and predictable offensive attack now the first pass play Motion Mesh we're looking at here is motion mesh in spread double flex and this is a great Zone beating play that gives us four great options that we can go to that all attack different areas of the field and it is just an excellent spread pass concept to set this up come out with your running back to the short side of the field then take the wide receiver on the short side and put him on a streak then take the wide side wide receiver and put him on a Crossing route make sure you're using your running back wheel to the short side of the field and this is go-to route on this play so this is actually fourth and seven and you're going to see him motion out and all we want to do with this running back is wait till he gets in behind the flat Defender so the flat Defender is going to settle right here this streak is going to pull back the deep blue Defender and as soon as we see this flat Defender doesn't turn and run with the wheel then we can just drop it in over his head just like that in front of this deep blue Defender and we get like a 25 yard gain down the field and you can run that an absolute ton then on the inside of thei field we have what is called a triangle read so that's what mesh really is triangle read over the middle of the field and it basically a triangle read is this right here boom boom boom that is your triangle with your deep post or cross coming in the Middle with our two drags settling down and basically we just want to read these underneath players and if they are biting down then we want to throw that post in behind them but if we see the user and the hook start to jump on the post then we have our two drags now these drags are interesting on mesh as well cuz they're actually option routes so against man coverage these guys will keep running out towards the sideline but against Zone they actually have the option to sit down versus The Zone and stay away from the flat Defender so right here we see the user jump there this guy sits down versus The Zone first and 10 we drop it into him second part of our triangle read is going to be that deep post coming in behind him so if we look at the underneath coverage the user jumps here hook jumps here Flats getting pulled down we have the Deep Over route look at how open our wheel is as well we can go to our wheel here but here we have the Deep Over route just coming right into that soft spot in their Zone Fire it in on Third and eight we got the first down then if you want to take this offense to the next level you need to check out my website scheme Kings up right now I have the second part for this West Virginia spread to run offense it is going to be eight more plays for this scheme that you can combine with the stuff you find in this video and this is going to make this scheme so much more difficult to stop then there's also two other mini schemes up for this offense along with my Oregon offense already on the site plus Clemson on the way so you can check out the whole spread to run offense on scheme Kings then on defense I've started my first defensive scheme where I'm breaking down Nick sabin's match defense at Alabama it's an incredible way to lock down your opponent based on how the real life tide dominated college football defensively and there are four videos for that so far with more on the way then by subscribing to the site you'll also get access to all my Madden 24 content and with Madden 25 out now you'll also receive all of that content plus the NC AA material All For One Price so for the site you can purchase the yearly membership which will save you $50 over the course of the year then I'm also going to be running my spread to run offense sale on the site and this will run until August 20th use code spread 25 to get 50% off your first month if you do the monthly membership so if you want to check out the site I will link it down below next up we have a great play PA Boot Stutter action play with PA boot stutter wheel in yoff trips and this all starts off with a hard play action fake then we're going to have two vertical routes with the Deep cross and the wheel that are both super hard to take away and can lead to some explosive pickups down the field to set this up come out with your trips to the wide side of the field then take your tight end and motion them across the field this will be the same tight end motion as the RPO in this formation that we broke down earlier so it can really help disguise the two of them and that is the whole setup you can even roll out here as well and make it look even more like the read option and our two main routes on this play we're going to have the slot running this wheel and we're going to have a deep over route right here basically we want to read this flat Defender if he settles we're going to have a runoff route here pulling back the deep blue Defenders and this wheel is just going to get to such a nice area of the field and we can just drop it in over that deep blue Defender fire it in on Fourth and 14 we pick up an easy first down so that's the first element we got play action kind of get out of the pocket and roll out and then if here's the flat Defender playing way deeper kind of getting under this route we see the user jump down to our Arrow Route and our QB so that's just going to leave the middle of the field wide open right here for this deep over so we want to look wheel to Deep Over in the middle of the field Deep Over is open fire that in third and 10 pick up an easy first down and then the last element of this play we run our play action if we see the wheel kind of getting caught on this flat defender or if the flat Defender is turning and running with the wheel or just getting deep then we can always just check it down to the flat underneath that is our third option now Cross H Divide our next play we're going to be breaking down is cross H divide and spread double flex and this play works great versus man and Zone coverage and has multiple deep routes on this play but the best key route here is going to be this deep cross wheel that just gets to such a tough area of the field versus both man and Zone coverage now to set this play Up come out with your running back to the wide side of the field them versus Zone coverage there is no more adjustments just run at stalk but vers man coverage you can take your outside receiver on the short side of the field motion him in and put him on a whip then you can block your running back if you think they might be blitzing okay now cross H divide we are going to break it down versus man and Zone coverage so this is going to be Zone coverage first and basically our two key routes here is going to be the Deep cross and this drag wheel or Crosser wheel route basically he's going to come across the field and it's going to look like matching crossers right here so across here and across here but then this cross is actually going to shoot up and wheel up the field and it just gets to such a deadly area of the field look at the flat the user he sees the running back in the flats over here so he starts to run down to it and we can just drop this in over this guy's head I want to show you guys this one more time G Zone cuz it is so freaking deadly he's going to drag across the field then he's just going to turn up field and look where the user was he was playing underneath that all of a sudden this guy shoots up the field this guy's running off the deep blue Defenders and you can just drop this in front of the deep blue Defenders down the field then the other kind of deep route we have here is our deep Crosser going the other way so if we kind of see the user sitting on it I thought the user is actually going to run with this more but we see he's actually going to be wide open we also have the cross coming in as well so if we see the defense over playing on the drag wheel we have the Deep cross then our other route on this play is also we can check it down to the running back and the flat so that's kind of our read so read the drag wheel other cross then check down running back but here we can throw that Crosser in for a really nice gain okay now againsts man coverage the drag wheel can still be incredible you see he kind of breaks off from the guy there and then if he has better speed he's going to turn up field and he can just absolutely outrun run this guy against man coverage and you can just put some air under it and let him run under it and we can bomb him over the top so the drag wheel can work really well versus man so we also have this Crosser here so we can basically look to the drag wheel or the Crosser we see the Crosser is wide open as well but the other element that this play has is we have the drag wheel and we have the Crosser we have a deep post on the field and if they have no safeties back we can also bomb them over the top with the Deep post so you know here's third and inches fourth quarter they have no safeties back we just have a one-on-one match up with the post we can bomb him over the top so we have multiple vertical options on this play we have that deep the Deep Crosser as well and then we have a check down option with the whip so if everything's kind of covered deep they're bringing a blitz anything like that you can just check it down to the whip in the flat and that is your you know safety valve against man coverage on that play now one of the defining factors of the West Virginia offense was their creativity in the Run game they would use triple options reverses with their wide receivers and any other way they could scheme one of their Dynamics players the ball in space and I wanted to find a play that could bring that same creative Spirit to our DIY HB Reverse offense so the play we're going to break down here is DIY HB direct reverse in y off trips this play is going to start with a direct snap to your running back and you can get going downhill right away with this run and this is such a quick hitter that you can get a ton of easy yards with your running back and I love using this in short yardage and on the goal line because it just happens so quick but where this play gets wild is it has a built in Reverse so so right at the snap you want to keep your eyes on the backside Edge player and if he collapses down on the run you want to run towards your slot who is coming back the other way and you can click L1 to reverse the ball to him and now with the end crash you can turn the corner and get some huge yards with your slot back in the open field this reverse can be super deadly and it is just a wild new play type they added to college football 25 and once you get the timing right it is going to be incredibly fun to use now an element that set West Virginia's offense apart was their Innovative use of white as a weapon in the Run game they masterfully designed plays that maximized White's dual threat capabilities making him a constant danger to defenses and I wanted to design some really creative ways to utilize rqb in the same way for this version of the offense so first up we have y lead read option in pistol open Flex this play is going to be a read option but there is a way we can cancel out the read Defender and block him on the edge so now we can turn read options into a QB power where the defense can't take it away by putting their option on conservative so to do this we want to take our outside receiver on the trip side and motion him across the field and as this is happening hold R2 so you can see the r player now once the motion player gets over top of this R player we will see the r icon will disappear as soon as this happens now snap the ball and now the tight end will come across the formation and block this player and if he pins him inside then you can keep the ball to the outside get on the edge with your QB and make a play in the open field but then if the tight end comes across and blocks the edge of player to the outside now we can turn the ball back up field and you can get downhill and turn this into an inside QB Run play then the last part of this play is if you motion your guy across but the edge still looks like he might be unblocked or if there's just too many Defenders on the edge then you can just hand this ball off to your running back and get whatever yards are there then another play where we can get really creative with our QB is motion wide receiver midscreen and spread double Flex now this play will start with that same running back motion out of the back field like motion mesh post so this can help disguise which one of the these two plays we are going to then at the snap you will see your wide receiver come down on a screen pass and if the whole defense collapses inside on the screen then I like to just take off with my QB and turn the corner and pick up yards on the edge and this can be super explosive now obviously this can be a little glitchy but it can be a really fun curveball to throw at defenses and you can just get some huge runs on the edge with your quarterback but then if you take off with your QB but the Defenders lead the middle to come play your quarterback then you can throw the screen back across the formation to your receiver in the middle and now you'll have a caravan of blockers and he can get some really big gains just following his blockers up the field and this screen can be crazy explosive and if you time it right this can turn into some absolutely massive Gaines with this middle screen then the last part of this play is if they run man coverage this will take away the screen pass but if the user who most of the time is going to be responsible for the running back leaves him to attack the QB now you can throw it to the running back as he gets vertical up the field for big plays this can be a great last element to this play that can make the user pay for being too aggressive now with just what you have here for this West Virginia offense you will be in a great spot but remember there's part two of this offense up right now on scheme kings that is going to make this game plan way more difficult to stop but then if you want a full breakdown of the idea behind my full spread to run offense and a deep dive into the person L we will be using for this scheme then you need to check out the intro video for the whole offense right here
