RINGS OF POWER Season 2 Episode 1-3 Breakdown: Every LOTR EASTER EGG + Sauron Origin EXPLAINED

those rings are more than our lost hope they may be the Lost hope for all Middle Earth hey welcome back to screen Crush I'm Ryan Ary hey and I'm Colton Ogburn the guy eternally trapped in our small television but doesn't know it so please don't tell it hey and I'm Colton Ogburn and this is all of the Easter egg references and little things you might have missed in rings of power season 2 episodes 1 2 and three now don't worry if you haven't seen all three episodes we're going to break them down one at a time in this video so no spoilers as we go along you can totally watch the first part go watch episode two and then come back to see us and I just want to note something now I've read these books and I've always pronounced these names a certain way in my head so like if I mispronounce anything sorry but frankly unless you speak the original Elvis we're all pronouncing these words wrong and as for me I've never even read a book all right so let's break these episodes down so we open with a flashback to the beginning of the second age the beginning of what okay let me back up and explain where we're at here without getting like too deep into tolken lore basically the world was created by an Alla God who created angels called the Valar they're not really Angels but for shorthand that work now one of the Valar morgoth rebelled against his creator and started a centuries long War called The War of Wrath as we hear later in this episode morgoth also corrupted elves and turned them into Orcs the Valar also created beings called the Mayar which are for Simplicity sake we'll just call them like sub Angels Gandalf sarmon and radagast are all Mayar as is the villain of the series Sauron now Sauron was a servant of morgoth and after morgoth Was Defeated Sauron decides that he will be the new ruler of Middle Earth and that is basically where the show starts the season opens in a Flash back set in fored W now this is the Frozen Palace that gadriel and her forces track saon to in the first episode of season 1 so we open to sauron's coronation where he has become the self-appointed heir of morgoth the crown made for him might look familiar it's the same one he wore in the Lord of the Rings flashback scenes and we also saw reflected in the water during the Sauron reveal in season 1 and it happens to match the mark that mapped Mordor that we saw in season 1 as well now saaron is played by a different actor in The flashback because he's wearing a different form but Adar has actually been recast Sam hazeldine replaces Josh mway who also played benjin Stark in Game of Thrones so during sauron's inaugural address he says for I seek a new kind of power not of the flesh but over flesh and you'll remember this is what Adar told gadriel that Sauron wanted he sought to craft the power not of the flesh but of the Flesh and later when saon got close to Kell bmore he also repeated these same words not off the flesh but over flesh and that's how gadriel figured out that H brand was saon my gosh person what does that nasty smell I don't know what's it smell like smells like a the Dallas Cowboy Zer room but with like real cowboys in it h you know what man it's it's probably me oh it is you you smell like heavy spoilers okay okay I get the idea you know I did shower this morning but it's summertime and I sweat a lot in fact guys did you know that it's scientifically proven that 90% of the male swag glands are located in my butt oh good it's here what's that hey dude you're going to like this just give me a couple seconds a few moments later there is that better oh yeah way better you smell like an ocean of sunshine in the spring rain what did you do well like I said I did shower this morning but especially in the summer it's really hard to stay fresh and smelling good all day long especially you know the pits package and feet you do traditionally have very smelly feet oh believe me I know so I ordered this Mando whole body deodorant starter pack we are talking about pits packages belly buttons butt cracks stinky crevices stomach folds and feet so guys mostly I love how convenient this is like if I go out after work but I don't have time to shower these deodorant wipes can fresh up a few key areas and you know it's summertime we go out we do stuff and before you know it you stink worse in secret Invasion but also all of these products smell great Mando was created by a doctor who saw firsthand how normal boo was being misdiagnosed and mistreated my favorite so far is the Burbon leather deodorant bar you know for the pits the deodorant wipes are also a must have I keep mine in my backpack in case of you know smell emergencies but you can also use this invisible cream deodorant this one is Pro Sport scented or you can choose to get a cleansing bar your starter pack this one is scented Mount Fuji it's very good and it removes odor without stripping away your skin or you could also choose Clover Woods or unscented for any of these products Mando is clinically proven to control odor better than a shower with soap alone 12 hours after a shower the average man's grundle odor level was 5 out of 10 with Mando the average grundle odor level is a zero out of 10 but let me tell you why I like this more than traditional deodorants those other products will just try to mask odor with a fragrance but Mando is formulated and powerered by mandelic acid to stop odor before it starts it's more like a pre-or Mando reduces odor all day and continues controlling Bo for 72 hours Mando is skin safe baking soda free crueltyfree and vegan pH optimized to use anywhere on your body and paraben free and also and this was a game changer for me it does not stain in your clothes so if you want I love these products they smell great and they're really handy to have around especially in the summertime I think you should give them a shot now back to what I was saying so what he's laying out here is his plan to use the rings of power to control Middle Earth morgoth mustered all these forces of evil to fight against the elves and Valar the war of Wrath was fought with dragons and Orcs And trolls and other Beast sauron's plan is more subtle he wants the forces of good to destroy themselves by offering up their own freedom in the name of security and this of course is why the one ring is so important it gives Sauron dominion over all the other Rings one ring to rule them all but more on that later saon tries to sway the Orcs to his side by telling them that the elves will never take them back and that men will hunt them to Extinction and guys he's not wrong let us hunt some or the flashback shows us the real reason why last season Hall brand had a grudge against Adar you remember me and it also shows why Adar was their leader the Orcs did not trust Sauron and they wanted to be led by one of their own after the assassination attempt a great cold blows outward similar to the explosion when saon is destroyed at the end of Return of the King but here we see this Force destroying foro DWI which in tolk's text was a region that was decimated by the war of Wrath so there's a subtle difference there between the book and the show and in fact this show takes a lot of liberties with the original material condensing events that took place over thousands of years into a few weeks but me I'm fine with that because this allows us to follow like the same characters throughout the entire story and it makes the story more character-based instead of event-based afterwards sauron's Essence seeps through the cracks which symbolizes the slow way his evil will spread across Middle Earth by burrowing into people's minds instead of charging armies at their doorstep then he turns into black goo kind of like armis consuming rodents to live now I love this sequence because it explains why he decides to eventually create a hor Crux for himself the One Ring he wants his soul to be held within an invulnerable object so he never has to suffer this kind of humiliation again then he Cape fears it underneath a wagon before finally taking the form that we know of Hall brand now this opening also makes Sauron into the protagonist of this series I mean is anyone else just like rooting for him here he starts off as the underdog and I am a sucker for a character with a strong Arc I also think that this opening really humanizes Sauron you see he was not created to be evil he was once a myar who served the light so in theory he could turn back to the good side just as good good beings like Gandalf or gadriel were tempted to become evil in the movies now last season H brand told gadriel that he took the king's seal from a dead man I told you I found his son a dead man and in this opening we see that he was not lying and the neat thing here is because Sauron is so old he would have recognized the Seal of this King hell it's even implied that he ended the line of these Kings himself so this man who is the descendant of people who serve these Southern Kings actively seeks out the good in Sauron there's another life waiting for you you just have to turn toward it and this is why Sauron is such a brilliant villain he does not have to lie when people see him they see what they want to see gadriel assumed that H brand was lying when he said he took this seal off a dead man she wanted him to be the Lost King of the South so he became the Lost King of the South and now this kind man thinks that he's inspiring this wayward soul to do good when in fact he's inspiring sauron's plan to assume new identities to trick people into creating his new power over flesh then the ship is attacked by the same sea monster we saw in episode 2 last season and we see Sauron taking control of its mind the same way that he's able to influences the birds and other beasts throughout these stories and in season 1 the monster remember spared gadriel but killed everyone else probably under sauron's command and by the way guys speaking of swimming in the water I want to show you these awesome new shirts we designed for our merch store there is this parody of the nevermind album cover with Gollum swimming after the one ring and a parody of ABY road with these halflings crossing the street we love designing these shirts for you guys and shopping our merch store is the best way to directly support our Channel hey we also have a 15% off Labor Day weekend sale starting today and running through Monday then we cut to elron and gadrail moments after he discovered the scroll that revealed Hall br's identity now with elon's whole storyline here I'm really glad that somebody was reluctant to use these Rings because if the elves would have used them without any deliberation then they would have seemed like they were just being careless so when elron tells gilgalad about the Rings he describes Sauron as appearing in Fair form which is a quote taken directly from token's work and saying they must be destroyed Echoes the Council of elron centuries later the ring must be destroyed and then H brand is brought before Adar and chains yeah what's he up to anyways well he knows that Adar thinks that H brand is a lost King so he plays the part of a Moses but he knows that more than anything Adar hates and fears Sauron so in this scene he's trying to earn adar's trust his goal is to eventually go Adar into attacking the elves and Men this way the forces of good will become afraid and easier for Sauron to manipulate there is like so much Intrigue this season and it's all coming from my new favorite character Sauron meanwhile The Stranger is struggling to regain his memories and control his power and he doesn't realize that a wizard channels their power through their staff which is why the staff is appearing in his dreams he is reluctant to use his powers remember because last season he almost killed a child but he also then made a baren Grove bear fruit so like he's definitely Gandalf right probably the thing is the eastar the Wizards didn't actually travel to Middle Earth until the third age and even then they arrived by ship and we are still here very much in the middle of the second age but they're taking a lot of liberties with the source material which like I said I am fine with I do think he could be Gandalf though because of his memory loss remember when Gandalf returns to Middle Earth in The Two Towers he struggles to remember his old life stand out huh similar to how the stranger is having trouble piecing together who he really is and guys I was so relieved to see that Poppy was following them like if Nori is this story's froto than poppy is her Sam and just like in the books a Sam cannot leave a Frodo behind I made a promise Mr froo a promise don't you leave him SE gchi and I love the little detail that the walking song from last season was secretly a guide for them through Rune token really felt that songs and poems were an important part of a culture which is why there are so many song breaks in the books when you're reading it's a way to show you a culture instead of just telling you about it and the map that they use is from the book of sedak burrow the harfoot leader and Sage who died in season 1 back in Mordor Sauron has been imprisoned by wre that's the old guy who turned the key last season that activated the volcano now ironically this guy was very much team Sauron until Adar came along sa remember it was actually him who kept that secret key under the floorboards of his barn until Theo found it now Adar runs through the story of morgoth transforming the original 13 elves into Orcs and reveals why he hates sardon he was actually there and watch the whole thing happen so I loved how in this scene Sauron found a way to not lie you know by using word play serve a lot of M because he sees himself as the master of Mordor and he only serves himself I discovered at a very early age that if I talk long enough I could make anything right or wrong so either I'm God or truth is relative then we shift to Western London to the gray Havens which look exactly like they do when we see them at the end of Return of the King this is where kiraan the ship right lives now this guy is renowned amongst the elves was said that he was the wisest and most Clairvoyant Of The Elves and that he was the master of the greaty Havens to the first second third and into the fourth ages of Middle Earth now just like in this episode he wears the ring of power called naria although in the books it's actually a gift from Kell brenor fun fact for you though when Gandalf Ares by ship in the third age keran gave him this ring because he was able to see the future and he knew how important Gandalf would be he tells him take now this ring for thy labors and thy cares will be heavy but in it all will support thee and defend thee from weariness for this is the ring of fire and herewith maybe Thou shalt rekindle Hearts to The Valor of old in a world that grows chill and according to the Lord of the Rings Wiki The Ring does have this power to inspire others to resist tyranny domination and despair in other words it allows the wielder to evoke hope in others which comes in handy for Gandalf years later the elves are singing a Goodbye song which is similar to the passing of the Elves song that we saw in [Music] Fellowship now after K Dan brings in the Rings gadriel puts on Nya no that's Ena this is Nya the same ring that she wore in Fellowship of the Ring and the final Elven ring is Vila which is worn by Gil Gat and I loved this overhead shot of the Rings calling back to that opening prologue in Fellowship very cool and then we go to Kell Bimbo's new Forge that he wanted to build in season 1 hey I thought he said he needed help from a bunch of dwarves like it was going to take decades to finish that Forge wasn't that the whole point on to episode two the opening begins with the pool of lava in Mount Doom in the shape of the eye of Sauron and I should note that in the Peter Jackson movies they made this into a literal eye but in the books it was more of a metaphorical eye and not like a giant eye on top of a tower like a spotlight but film is a visual medium so they had to find a way to visualize the eye of the enemy I always thought it came off looking really silly though ooly boly [ __ ] then we see the Blackness from the volcano spreading across Middle Earth now this symbolizes how the evil of Sauron will burrow into people's minds but also how the literal shock waves from the volcano are disrupted the Earth itself last season we saw how the volcanic rocks destroyed Groves that were in the Traveler's path and here we see how the aftershocks are collapsing the sun shafts in kazad Doom remember this series isn't Just An Origin story for the rings of power Sauron Mordor and Gondor but it's also showing us how kazad Doom fell and became Mordor and I just have to say kazad Doom looks absolutely breathtaking in this show it is every inch the great Dwarven Kingdom we saw fall in Fellowship of the Ring remember last season Prince Duran had a falling out with his father King Duran and now we're seeing the repercussions of that Fallout just as the earthquakes are undermining the physical Kingdom and fighting between the Royals is undermining their political structure as well everything is falling apart everything is falling apart now in Fellowship of the Ring we learned that the real reason kazad Doom fell was because the dwarves were greedy and dug too deep for the meal that was Far beneath their minds and last season we got a tease that the ball Rock was beneath waiting to be discovered by Duran's miners So eventually the dwarves will dig deeper and deeper for more methal probably because they're under the influence of Sauron and they will eventually cause more earthquakes that will release the ball Rock now Duran's wife daa can sense the earthquake because as we see later she is a stone singer kind of like Hurst in the show Deadwood he was the boy that the Earth talked to then we cut to galadriel's Vision where she is planting seeds at her brother's grave now remember her quest to avenge her brother is what led her to chase after Sauron in the first season this quest for Revenge led her to embrace Hall brand because she believed that he was the key to her defeating her enemy now she's able to have this Vision because of her new connection to the ring of power this is kind of similar to how Harry Potter becoming a horcrux himself gave him insights into what Voldemort was planning except here glad has insight into what Sauron is planning later she says glimpses of the Unseen World as dreams unbidden coming forth to crowd my waking mind which is very similar to The Shadow world that froto saw when he wore the one ring I can see him with my waking eyes she sees a vision of Kell bmbo because he is the key to the enemy's plan then these Vines slowly snake through the forest and this is similar to the influence of saon that we saw spreading out from that volcano in the opening shot of this episode then we hear the voice of saon speaking in the tongue of Mordor reciting the epigraph that tolken wrote at the beginning of Lord of the Rings three were given to the elves Immortal wisest and fairest of all beings This spells out sauron's entire plan of conquest and then Kell bbor says are they not seeds you plant because gadriel is the one who empowered Sauron to plant the seeds in kellbran or's mind just as easily as she planted the seeds at her brother's grave the ladel will continue to have visions throughout her entire life as we saw in Fellowship of the Ring We also hear about visions of I have seen mountains crumbling Waters running dry and clouds black gathering over white tows which could be describing the destruction of numor or the war of the Rings fight for Gondor and Return of the King similarly mountains crumbling could be from the destruction of mordor's gate in that film now in run We Meet The Heavy of the East who the credits call the dark wizard remember last season we saw some of these Sorcerers seeking out Sauron and they pledged their loyalty to him sa except they thought the stranger was Sauron honest mistake because they are both myar so the stranger then turned them into moths and here the dark wizard reforms them to get information now he knows that the Str stranger is an eastar or a wizard and the dark wizard could also be an eastar who just did not appear in token's text I mean tolken did write about two blue Wizards that came over with Gandalf who then went East and were never really heard from again but again that happened in the third age not the second age notice how the dark Wizard's forces also bear a sign of a single eye which will later become a symbol of Sauron when he takes control of Mordor the dark wizard calls the harfoot halflings which is also what Sor men called them in the movies oh love of the halflings leaf has cleared really slowed your mind so I think they're trying to draw a very subtle comparison here letting us know that this guy is an evil wizard just like Saron The Stranger doesn't yet have a name and he says no one can give you a name it is yours already it is who you are and when you hear it spoken you feel your heart glow now this is interesting because in Middle Earth people have lots of names Gandalf's true name is myth rander but he's called other names in other places yeah like having a nickname at work exactly cocoa bean tolken often gave his characters many names names in the common tongue and Elvish and the ancient tongue of valanor the name defines the character's role in that place in the same way the stranger has no name so he has no idea what his role is within this story yeah that makes Tous so when The Trackers approach the Haro foots disappear right away after all these are Proto Hobbits and Hobbits are exceptional at disappearing when they want to it's why Bilbo was chosen to burgle from a dragon Hobbits are remarkably light on their feet in fact they can pass unseen by most if they choose when they hide beneath the blanket it is like froto and the others hiding from the Black Riders In fellowship or more precisely when Fram and stto hid beneath the Elvish cloak in Two Towers now when they realize they have to cross the big desert they recite the harfoot Creed that we heard last season nobody goes off Trail nobody walks later poppy displays a little bit of Pippen like carelessness when she lets a well bucket set off a bell that attracts the enemy very similar to how Pippen knocked armor down a well in Fellowship throw yourself in next time and R Us of your stupidity afterwards The Stranger summons a storm to save them but he loses control now the key thing here is that his staff explodes what he needs now is a conduit that is strong enough to channel his powers now in this storyline I think he's going to be chasing this staff McGuffin all season long but I'm okay with that because I think it's a good way to keep his character from getting too powerful too fast because then you know he would just ride in and solve everybody's problems for them back in kazad Doom the gardens are wilting from lack of sunlight or because of the evil of the ball Rog that was released last season now I say that because it feels like the kingdom is now cursed daa and the other Stone singers are unable to find sun shafts and it seems like their abilities are tied to Magic you see last season it felt like many of these story lines were disconnected from each other but now the hardship of the dwarves is going to make them desperate enough to seek out a ring of power I also like how we see how this crisis is affecting Ordinary People this R tastes like last year's bread it is last year's breid and also just real quick notice that their kitchen table is not the one that Duren stole from the elves last season even though he said that table was for his wife now back at the gry Havens kiraan shows Elon the power of the Ring to control and influence life but then he can influence that same life to kill itself like when the fish stays out of the water so this is a microcosm of what Sauron is doing influencing people to become their own demise then we go to iron the realm of cbor and check this out listen to the Hammer sound here that is a sound effect from Warcraft 2 if you know the building that's from let us know in the comments in fact we'll play the sound one more time for you there you go let us know in the comments and he has just used the last of meil to invest in Moon runes similar to the writing we saw on the map in The Hobbit and also like the letters outside of kazad Doom we saw in fellowship and here we see the temptation of cellb bramor but remember Sauron had already dug his claws into the Elvish Smith last season when they were forging the Rings having Saron nearby seemed to energize Kell bmore and he even recited the words of the enemy off the flesh but over flesh and Sauron really plays into Kell bmb's ego like Kell bbor was an apprentice of the great Smith fanor who made gemstone so lovely they made morgoth weep and now he wants to step out of his master's Shadow now at first H brand asked him to make rings for men which by the way he will do and eventually these will become the nine Rings worn by the nasgul and Lord of the Rings he tells Kell brenor that he is a messenger from the Valar that's the Angels who serve the creator of the world and that he is actually a myar which by the way not a lie again he spends a lot of time presenting people with information and then letting them jump to their own conclusions like when he let Gad believed that he was King of the South even when he says a messenger sent to bring guidance to the ears of the wise this is a brilliant appeal to Cara bmo's ego he even calls him the lord of the he said it he said it so he changes his form to something more holy that cell brenor would expect to see this is when he assumes identity from the book Anar meaning a sharer of gifts gifts again have a deep meaning in tolking lore on a Hobbit's birthday they actually buy all the gifts for other people which means that in a hobbit Community you are practically getting a present every single day you see in this case gifts are not for individuals they are for the community but smeel felt entitled to the One Ring because it was found on his birthday it's my birthday and I want this created a singular possession that others could then covet similarly fair and bourier called their bring a mighty gift to their father denior now in this instance though anatar is telling people what they want he is saying you are special you deserve this gift and by playing on their greed and desire for power or their desire for a claim he is able to use the gifts to control them on to episode three notice how in the opening credits the sand is now red and we begin with the sand bubbling up from a Center Point like Mount Doom and then spilling outwards this is showing the seismic influence of the volcano but also Sauron influence over the rings of power he controls all of these rings by forging the One Ring which was forged in Mount Doom then these Rings zoom out to create a more Elvish like design a neat way to show that these Rings were actually forged by the elves next we finally get to check in with numor yeah okay so what's their deal it's complex basically humans fought against morgoth in the first age so the Valar gave them this starfish shaped island where they built the most advanced human civilization of all time the first king of numor was elon's brother El Ros he chose the life of a mortal man and then ruled numor for 400 years until he died this is why his descendants like Aragorn lived for so long you cannot be 80 87 but as the centuries go by men turned against the elves the men were jealous that they could not sail west of valanor and they were jealous of the elves immortality we even saw glimpses of this last season elf workers taking your trades they took our jobs however some of the new manorian are still very Pro elf they call themselves The faithful now the dead King was one of the faithful but his daughter maintained the ban on elves coming into the island but why well because she touched the paler that's one of the crystal balls that we saw in the movies and when she did this she saw the destruction of their Island which happened after an elf stepped onto their Shores so queen regent Miel is now trying to Stave off that destruction and she believes that she needs to use the paler to see the future to save her people now Ellendale is a ship captain of Royal Blood who is also one of the faithful the people loyal to elves and he is also loyal to Mariel elenil is also the king that was killed in the opening prologue of Fellowship of the Ring which then prompted his son isor to cut off the ring from Sauron and then later on keep it for himself and eor sister e Arian discovered the paler last season so we begin with elendil trying to tame his son's horse similar to the horse of theod King theoden's dead son in the two towers turn this fellow free he has seen enough of War but it turns out that this horse just wanted to go off and save isidor's life now a lot of people didn't like the Sor fake death last season but you know I didn't mind it after all the original movies had about a dozen fake Frodo deaths and like one fake Gandolf death to boot so the horse finds the seor in the layer of a giant spider who may be Shob rest a Shob well sheilo was a giant spider that we saw in the movie Return of the King she is an ancient being described in the text as there before Sauron and before the first stone of bador she served none but herself drinking The Blood of Elves and Men you see Sheil Lo's children went on to spread across the land into MK where they captured the dwarves and The Hobbit and she is also descended from a very ancient evil spider called the ungoliant the first spider of Arda who is actually inspired by your mom so heor escapes and sees the marshes of the Dead Oh Yeah from The Two Towers actually no those are the dead marshes and they were from the Battle of the last Alliance that we saw in the fellowship prologue these are just some dead guys in some water oh stupid dead guys ildor finds a woman named estrid and they are rescued by aurand Deere doing some classic CGI legalist fight moves last season r& Deere had a Forbidden love with a woman named bronin who was killed offc screen between Seasons AR but why well because the woman who plays her nazanine Moni is an Iranian human rights Advocate who wanted more time to advocate for women's rights in the Middle East she's actually won the Sydney Peace Prize and she's doing some truly amazing work so her character's death has put Theo and r& Deere in a bit of a funk our Theory all through the first season was that Theo was going to be r and dear's Son notice how his hair always covers his ears and I still think that's the case even though they make a point to deny it in this scene driving on my father no arender tries to comfort Theo by talking about his own Homeland bond which was flooded in the war of the Wrath but the kid finds his father figure elsewhere in a seal door who teaches him about num manorian technology it's an aqueduct supposed to bring water into your homes and notice here how the stone is carved to look like a fish and you used to see flourishes like this like as late as a Victorian era instead of just building a pipe for Aqueduct stonemasons would carve like a fish to demonstrate their Artistry this is also showing us how numor was like the ancient Rome of Middle Earth introducing to advancements and Engineering that no other Kingdom thought possible we also learned that elor's Mom drowned so maybe it was her voice that called out to him from the sea and season 1 and we also know that isor has a special purpose he's both the savior of the world and he also was going to Doom it to Darkness and it turns out that the woman he's fallen in with was one of these people who swore Allegiance to Adar now she could be burning this Mark in this scene because she's managed to break away and she doesn't want anyone to find out that she previously made a mistake and swore Allegiance or she could be burning this Mark because she's trying to infiltrate the other people on behalf of adar's forces we just have to wait and see to find out but I will say that her words here one she gave freely because you were precious to her are words that Sauron uses with the Sor eventually calling the one ring precious it is precious to me when Theo infiltrates the road AG he shows off his own Mark of Sauron which he got after holding the key in season one so who attacks him at the end well given that these guys are cutting trees with axes I think they get attacked by ins especially because this POV shot of someone being crushed is like this shot from The Two Towers but when we saw the ins in The Two Towers they were near extinction because everyone had lost the int wives and now we cannot find them but here we might get to see the full glory of the tree Shepherds in their prime it would also be funny if they were actually rescued by the an wives who are looking for their ant husbands back in Mordor a cave troll shows up and remember we saw these guys in the original movies fighting in Moria they have a cave troll in the Hogwarts bathroom and working a shift at the Mordor gate Adar says that damrod the troll is from ered mithon which are the gray mountains north of merkwood that's the forest from The Hobbit he also calls him the fighter of stone giants who we also saw in The Hobbit movies and the Eater of dragon bones which I'm calling [ __ ] have you ever seen the size of a dragon in Middle Earth no way this cave troll killed and ate a dragon so now we have this whole political situation in newor the anti-elf faction is being led by Muriel's cousin ferzon who wants to undermine the queen region to control the kingdom now it's fitting that he chooses red for the color of the coordination it's a color of War of violence and the volcanic eruption that took the queen Regent's sight he's conspiring with a Lord named Bel gazar to depose the queen now look I'm not going to give you spoilers for the books but this is all really important for later at the coronation farizon is wearing red when Arion storms in with the paler that she discovered last season now notice that she is careful to hold it with a cloth cuz remember what happened to Pippen and even Aragorn when they held it barehanded yeah why is she doing this I thought her dad was an elf friend well her dad is but that doesn't mean that she is she believes that miriel was using the paler to take commands from the elves so she believes that the queen regent is actually a traitor but the whole thing stirs up a riot and Muriel is about to let herself be taken by the mob when an eagle shows up now these are these same Giant Eagles that we saw in The Hobbit and in Lord of the Rings and earlier fison said that an eagle showed up her father's coronation should one make an appearance of yours it would be seen as an auspicious Omen now here guys I'm thinking this dude put some Eagle food out or something like that to draw it in or more likely the eagle showed up to bless Miel but then the politicians were able to twist the meaning of the sign to suit themselves and this finally takes us to iron where we see Anar continue to tempt everyone with what they want the most now last season diesa spoke to Duran about how their quest for power should not just end in one mountain and together we will rule this mountain and all others before our time is done and here anatar is offering Duren a chance to prove that he could be even greater than his dad you know a way to show his quality I love showing evil portrayed like this I thought in the original movies which I love evil was always portrayed as you know big scary Orcs And monsters and armor charging the gates but here rather than being portrayed through a big scary monster evil is subtle it's human it's also you know what the One Ring does to people all throughout Lord of the Rings the one ring is strong because it turns you into the instrument of your own destruction but anatar also drives a wedge between Kell brambor and the other elves what business is it of his how I conduct myself in my own realm it's subtle but that one line shows that how Sauron is making the elves divide up their own kingdom now the way the forge spills outward is like the opening credits of the show but it also shows how the power of the Rings flows outward from the one ring that will eventually control the ball now Duren has a bad feeling about the Rings but he wants to get along with his father so he doesn't want to challenge him again and because Anar has created an emotional barrier from Lyon Duran has no communication with elron this has all been very carefully constructed throughout season 1 and the beginning of this season and I love how all of these different pieces are finally coming together so early in season 2 now the message from all of this is clear when the people of middlee Stand Together they can stop this evil before it takes root but when they're divided evil is always there promising them a way to use their divisions to gain more power for themselves well guys that's all the Easter eggs that we caught but
