KSTATE vs UT MARTIN - POST GAME REVIEW

[Music] hello everyone and welcome to the game time YouTube channel my name is Joe and I am your host K State football post game for you today K St versus UT Martin game one of the young 2024 season and let's talk about it y'all um in case they gets a big win 41-6 UT Martin only scores two field goals no touchdowns okay but defense played well offense was okay okay let's just put it like that offensively I would say less than dominant but not pedestrian okay because K they was definitely able to put points on the board but it was kind of an accumulation of points due to the defense playing so well UT Martin just couldn't score they just couldn't score and they were unable to take advantage of some turnovers that K State had in this game and so just over time I think the offense just wore the UT Martin defense down and was able to put points on the board I'm going to call the the offense a little bit inconsistent slash not explosive not a lot of explosive plays and I think Kate's going to need that in order to make a Big Splash in the Big 12 this year total yards for this offense 449 total yards okay so the production was kind of there uh but it was kind of accumulative over time um 166 passing yards and 283 uh rushing yards so a little more more run heavy although that does make sense because K State had a a sizable lead in the fourth quar so was able to just run the ball in the fourth quarter two big turnovers to talk about okay big time interception okay first interception for Avery Johnson on the young season and uh that resulted uh eventually in a field goal for UT Martin all right and a crucial fumble on a on a kickoff return to start the second half could have been a gamechanging event eventually it did end up leading to a UT Martin field goal but you know it just UT Martin just was unable to capitalize on these turnovers all right if they're able to score touchdowns off of these turnovers it's a totally different game KJ had no penalties offensively so that was good to see at least there's some discipline as far as doing the right things okay and not being penalized okay so that that shows some some growth in the offense there um Avery Johnson had a pretty solid game all right 14 of 21 for 153 yards and two touchdowns okay so pretty pretty decent the G for game one okay I I I can buy that I could buy that um DJ giddens goes over 100 yards all right 124 yards on 13 carries and a whopping 9.5 yards per carry okay so he's he's starting the season off right very very strong uh running game from DJ giddens uh to start the season the number two back Dylan Edwards had a pretty solid game game five carries 43 yards two receptions for 19 yards and two touchdowns okay so he scored two two of our touchdowns today so very very nice very nice game for him to get the young season going um I see big things for him I see big things for him the onew punch kind of like what we had last year with Tre Shan Ward and giddens I think we're going to have a similar setup with with giddens and Edwards but I think we're going to see Edwards a little bit more in the passing game I think which is going to help us which is going to be needed because our passing game was not as strong as I would like to have seen against an opponent like UT Martin okay uh Jace Brown leading receiver with five receptions for 71 yards but other than Jace no other receiver had over 30 yards so you know no Keegan Johnson okay uh no Dante cus we didn't really see much of them in the game I'm really looking for one of them to really Step Up as that number two guy we've talked a lot about Keegan Johnson coming into the season I think he's very capable um but let let's see let's see what he can do coming up in in some of these crucial games uh this was kind of a preview uh for for what we expect to see from Kake this year it wasn't very explosive very very vanilla looking um we we it was not impressive but it was sufficient let's put it like that it was sufficient uh but not not very dominant and and I think we want to see more more dominance uh coming from that offense going forward defense played extremely well extremely well kept UT Martin out of the end zone the entire game only gave up the two field goals and those two field goals came from the mistakes that K State made the turnovers that K State made so Cas they had two crucial turnovers that led to those six points otherwise UT Martin doesn't get on the board UT Martin quarterback Ken k Dent went 7 of 14 for only 87 yards uh with a 6.2 average so not much going in the passing game for UT Martin um a lot less going for the rushing game for UT Martin okay they're leading rusher only had nine carries for 19 yards they only had 36 total yards in the game okay and so that's less than actually literally less than one yard uh per uh per carry for for their rushing attacks so k was able to pretty much stop the rushing game from UT Martin in this game uh four sacks from the defense 11 tackles for loss okay um Desmond Pernell Le the way with seven tackles all right um this dude he's he's solid he's solid okay I saw some tackles from him some tackles for loss that were very very athletic he's able to shut off those blockers jump in there and get to those running backs and receivers very very well he's he's he's a good good player um I expect to see a lot of big things from him um top performer on defense uh today uh by far special teams came up big block punt for a touchdown in the first quarter okay put the team up 14 to zero and then negative all right Jake Brown fumbled on the kickoff return to start the half um you know there's a few guys that are rotating in on those kickoffs and so he was one of them um Dylan Edwards was another um I think we saw um Sterling like it um on on several punts as well I think Keegan Johnson returned some of those as well I think that's the coaches trying to figure out um who's going to play um those type of return roles and I think it's nice to see that all of those guys can play a role in that and we'll kind of see you know who steps up and takes those positions so around the Big 12 okay pretty much every team that you expected to win won their games this week all right um Houston and west Virginia were the two losers okay West Virginia losing to number eight Penn State okay a 32 to2 all right not necessarily an upset they were at home but they weren't expected to win that and then Houston loses to UNLV 27-7 at home I don't think we expecting Houston to be a Powerhouse in the Big 12 this year so but they lost their first game coming out of the gate Texas Tech avoids um catastrophe okay um they beat abalene Christian 52 to 51 in overtime at home um so that could have been a big time upset for Texas Tech but they were able to get the win uh but otherwise everybody in in the Big 12 uh wins out okay it starts out the season at 1 and0 and um no big surprises there around the Big 12 next week all right big game for K State at Tain all right Tain currently 1 and0 they beat Southeast Louisiana 52 to Z this past Thursday and uh this going to be a big test for K State okay it's going to be a huge test for K State Tang coming in last two years 11 plus wins okay beat K State uh in the second game of the season in 2022 uh that big 12 Championship season was able to beat K State and um you know uh tain's been pretty consistent um these past few years okay went to a BCS bowl that 2022 season um last year they won 11 games uh so uh new coach this year but they're strong they're a strong team and uh we're we're away from home so it's going to be interesting to see how K State comes to play here um I think in this game where offense is going to have to kind of get consistent there okay we're going to have to figure out who our explosive guys are and get them on the field and put the ball in their hands okay I think we're going to definitely need more big plays uh we're going to need to be able to move the ball more efficiently and that passing game is really going to have to develop okay we need one or two more guys to develop as consistent pass catchers we need it we need it going into the meat of our schedule um it's just a must um defense hey I like what I've seen so far as long as this defense stays aggressive and is able to continue to put pressure on the quarterback of the opposing teams um I think we're going to see big things from this defense um teams are going to have a hard time scoring on this defense and moving the ball on this defense very disruptive defense that we have uh this year um very quick to get to the ball in the ball carriers um aggressive tackling okay very good coverage in the secondary uh defensive line I played very well was able to definitely put pressure on the UT Martin quarterback um we're just going to see how this plays out um as we as we continue through the season and play potentially stronger teams but good start for the defense I like what I'm seeing game one win okay win is a win is a win is a win okay um whenever K can get a win it's a good things stay on the winning side of things I think we have a strong team I I think we we definitely have the potential I like what I saw from Avery Johnson game one um aside from the interception okay definitely a mistake made there um but I think he's solid uh we saw him in the running game a little bit um he only had three rushes for like 37 38 yards um it looks like what the offense is going to try to do is it looks like they're really trying to have him throw the ball and really just improvise when no one's open with his legs um I I don't think we we're probably not going to see a lot of design running plays for him unless the defense is really key in on you know trying to stop our running backs um and I think if that happens and DJ gon is unable to get yardage or Dylan Edwards or any of the other backs um are able to get yardage in the game I think we'll see Avery Johnson run more but until then I think we're going to utilize him to really put pressure on the team in the passing game and that's good to see because you know if teams already know he can run the ball and they're going to try to stop the run and we want to make them have to try to stop the pass and then now they're in trouble they they can't they have to pick one or the other and either way we're going to be able to move the ball so we got to get to that point thanks for listening in guys I appreciate the the time and uh feel free to hit that like button and
