Andy Carroll on pre-season prep and opportunities for young pros

Intro Andy welcome back to pre-season how was your break and how are you feeling coming back I had a great Break um I really enjoyed it with the family spending time away from football and then uh getting back in with the lads it's it's great to be here and obviously Sun's shining it's brilliant Preseason and you say the Sun's shining obviously we're out in Spain at the minute um with the boys how's it been so far yeah it's been really good it's always um tough preseason but you know that's what we're here to do get the Fitness open and work hard and get prepared for the start of the season and the preseason process is something you've been through many times before I'm sure you've seen it all um but what kind of impact does a good preseason have on a season that's massive getting the fitness level um to the maximum is is vital really I think um from the start of the Season you need to be as fit as you can be and uh the first day of pre-season is just as important as the last Young pros and there's a lot of young Lads that have traveled out here as well I'm sure a few of them have been trying to bend you're here for advice um what have you made at the Young group that come to the camp so far yeah they've been brilliant I think probably my first preseason as a professional they were probably one or two years old um so I've had a lot of them um so they they can ask me anything you know it's the the experience a really tough preseason this year the it's um it's good you know it's important that we get that Fitness up so yeah it's gonna be interesting and we're preparing Motivation for a league one campaign this time out obviously last season was really disappointing but if you've seen some real motivation from the squad so far yeah it's been brilliant you know obviously a few of the lads trained with us last season there's a few Fresh Faces so it's good you know I think it's very important that they're the realized opportunity that they've got in this squad now you know I think going down um obviously I settled at Newcastle when we got relegating the championship and that um progressed my career you know I got in the team then so I've said it in a couple of them I said you know this is your chance um to get in in the first team and uh stay there this is a your chance to put your the foot in your foot's in the door now and you've just got to get in and and put it make a Personal targets concrete really and finally if you set yourself any personal targets for the season ahead no I don't think um any any so far I think uh when we get close at the season I might um have a little think about what but you know the most important thing for me is get fit stay fit uh score goals win games you know and hopefully we can bounce straight back up to where we want to be
