10 Reasons Michigan Football Will Win 11+ Games In 2024!

Introduction after the 2 and4 disaster that was 2020 the Wolverines went on to achieve a 40 and3 record three consecutive Big 10 championships three consecutive victories over rival Ohio State you can also put Penn State in that mix and a two- one record against the Spartans as well three consecutive college football playoff appearances and last season in 2023 Michigan football had their best season in school history achieving a 15-0 record with a 4-0 record against top 10 opponents and a national championship one of the few in school history and also in college football history only one team can win a National Championship per year ever since the 1990s and before then you had two or maybe three national champions per year the rules back then were weird but we're entering a new era of college football in 2024 and with Jim Harbaugh and most of Michigan's staff from last season leaving for the Los Angeles Chargers and Chiron Moore being the new head coach of the Wolverines with USC UCLA Washington and Oregon joining the Big 10 making the conference tougher and most of Michigan's roster starters and production departing the program after last season the wolverin are only slight favorites to make the college football playoff and they're fourth in odds to win the Big 10 per FanDuel posting plus 650 odds I am here today to give you 10 reasons why Michigan football will once again be dominant in 2024 and what I mean by that is the Wolverines will have their fourth consecutive season of going 11-1 and or 12-0 and they will win at least one college football playoff game in the new 12 team playoff they will also be a top eight seed in the 12 team college football playoff they'll either get a first round buy or they will host a college football playoff game in the first round before we dive into those 10 reasons though please like this video so that we can get into the algorithm of YouTube so we can get more views earn more subscribers get more indepth college football fans not just casuals respect to the casuals though but in-depth college football fans so that we can have better conversations make better content cover more areas of the sport and also so that we can do more for you the college football viewer also subscribe to this Channel and click the notification Bell so that you can get notified when I release new college football content as it relates to the Big 10 as it relates to Michigan Ohio State or any specific Big 10 team or other intriguing college football topics and comment your reasons why you think Michigan will succeed this season maybe win the Big 10 win the national championship again that would certainly be bold or just fulfill the criteria that I laid out for my predictions or do you you think that they'll go 9 and three maybe miss the college football playoff entirely comment your thoughts down below and before we dive in check out my patreon page and my merchandise store via the links in the description or the pinned comment on my merchandise store you can get hoodies you can even get a college football with Sam themed mug the biggest highlight though are the Big 10 School themed college football with Sam t-shirts check out my merchandise store and you'll see what I mean and on my patreon page after 6 months of Heisman membership you get signed merchandise of your choice if you want to be an All-American member you'll get bonus content that will ramp up as the regular season approaches and if you just want to be an all conference member like all other members your name gets featured at the beginning and end of every video that I make so check out my patreon page or merchandise store again via the links in the description or at the top of the pin common but let's dive in and we'll No.1 - The Nation's Best DL start from the biggest reason and finish with reasons that are still important but not as important as number one first and foremost the nation's best defensive line This is after Jaylen herrold and Braden McGregor two great defensive ends departed for the NFL Michigan their defensive line is the strongest in the country because they return all American Mason Graham an all big 10 and in my mind for this season another All-American in Kenneth Grant and on the exterior of the defensive line at the edge position Derek Moore and Josiah Stewart come back and both were honorable mention all big 10 players last season with Josiah Stewart being second on the team in Sachs in terms of production their entire defensive tackle to deep returns cam good I believe was a third Stringer last year he's the only defensive tackle to leave ran Benny is one of the nation's better defensive tackles and he's a third Stringer and Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant are both projected to be first round picks in the 2025 NFL draft half of their defensive end to deep is also back in 20 total sacks return on this unit for the Wolverines Michigan will probably have one of the best if not the best run defenses in college football they're pass rush both on the interior and on the outside is going to be awesome offensive lines who are not Elite will fold like a lawn chair against this defensive line and the defense as we'll discuss in further reasons is loaded not just at the defensive line so this unit being the best in college football with linebackers with defensive backs who are also good that's going to make the defense good so that will allow the front to wreak as M to wreck as much Havoc as possible on opposing offenses and I'm I'm just saying I don't know any guard duo or any interior offensive line in the country who is going to be able to win a battle against this defensive line and the pass rush despite two starters departing at defensive end is still going to be lethal Michigan is going to reload up front defensively and the best defensive line in the country particularly at stopping the run and that's great in a year where many schools were looking for defensive tackles in the portal and Michigan retained potentially the two best defensive tackles in all of college football at number two we have Elite No.2 - Elite Strength And Conditioning strength and conditioning yes Ben Herbert left with Jim Harbaugh for the Los Angeles Chargers but did you know that his number two Justin Tres was promoted to be the new strength and condition coach well now you know and he's keeping Ben Herbert's system in place in its exact same place now of course you want a strength and conditioning coach who can adapt to the times Nebraska for example they were the first in strength and conditioning literally like they invented that but eventually they had to change they had to adapt and you hope that Justin Tres can do that at Michigan however Ben Herbert's system was the best in the country in terms of development I think we can all admit that and if you disagree you can agree that it was one of the best so this system at least in the short term and I'd say medium term over the next few seasons will still be up there in college football Herbert trained teams at Michigan that combined from 2018 until last season were 61 in 14 that's very impressive Ben Herbert also produced 50 NFL draft picks at Michigan and several firstr players at a variety of positions his system is proven and as I've already said it will be up to dat for years for several seasons the system and the program that Jim Harbaugh left at Michigan even if Chiron Moore and his staff aren't successful and I think they will be successful but let's say they're not let's steal man the argument of the doubters Michigan I still think will be in great shape from a systematic standpoint because of what Jim Harbaugh Ben Herbert and his staff set up so over the next few seasons that could carry this staff and this team and every single Wolverine player has been trained by a tried tested and Elite method of conditioning they've been trained by the best until this season and maybe Justin Tres will prove himself to also be one of the best we'll just have to see as time passes on at number three the w wolverines have elite players and also depth the defensive back position depth No.3 - Elite Depth At DB was a concern pre-spring practice especially with Keon Sab leaving for Alabama and Rod Moore sadly tearing his ACL I pray that he has a swift recovery and if possible if he can play this season but his health his safety his future career is more important than him being rushed back on the field that's why Michigan went into the transfer portal to get Wesley Walker Amir Hall and others as well but will Johnson returns we can't forget that he could be the best defensive back in college football there's also Caleb DS contending for that at Ohio State right now transferring in from Alabama after he had a phenomenal freshman season last year there's Malachi Starks and there are other players too that could contend for that but Johnson is one of the best of the best in the defensive back room and two veteran safeties in Quinton Johnson and Mari pagee returned for the Wolverines as well along with Paige MCB burough and Johnson likely stepping up Michigan added four transfer defensive backs in facturing in the transfers into returning production if they transferred from the FCS they did what Bill Connelly did were I half their statistics that's why you see a half of an interception even though that's not possible Michigan returns 25 passes defended 12 1/2 interceptions and 2 and 1/2 forced fumbles in the secondary Michigan in total last year had about 50 passes defended 18 interceptions and more than double the forced fumbles that they have returning entering this season and given Lamar Morgan's credentials the fact that like I said in reason number two that Michigan has had Elite strength and conditioning for years and then you can even Circle back to reason number one the defensive line is going to get pressure they're going to help shut down the run this secondary's job will be made easier by those previous two reasons and they have elite players and Playmakers so that will help this team lock down opposing passing attacks and Michigan has been known for tackling and hitting hard as well so this secondary will contribute in ways that a typical secondary wouldn't be able to be involved in at number four just Donovan Edwards that's it you can also count the No.4 - Donovan Edwards backup running backs too but Donovan Edwards will be the main face of this running back room this year he is one of college football's best running backs when he's on fire and when he's healthy I'm not saying entering this season it's an Undisputed fact that he's the nation's best running back due to some of his struggles last year and some of his inconsistencies when the offensive line wasn't functioning at full capacity in 2022 I can see an argument that several running backs nationally even several running backs in the Big 10 are better than he is that's an argument that I can't really fight in the same way you can't necessarily fight my argument that he is one of the best college football running backs and one of the best if not the best in the Big 10 the question is and it's a big one can he be consistently Elite can he combine the fire the cuts the correct reads that he had in 2022 with a bigger and more powerful frame and more experience that he had last year and also what he has this season C mullings and Benjamin Hall will be Edwards Primary backups and also tavier Dunlap and Cole Cabana should see some minor action too especially in games against Fresno State and Arkansas state for example against smaller teams are in garbage time Donovan Edwards in his career has 1,600 62 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns if the offensive line is great and so is he the Run game will be epic but even more importantly than that with his ability his bigger frame and also the fact that he's a pass catcher even if this is Michigan's worst offensive line by a mile compared to the previous three seasons so it's far worse than 21 22 and 23 he could still have a great year given his skill sets and given his talent so that's why he's this high on the list because I'm high on Edwards I think that Tony Alfred is going to help him become an even better running back with his Elite track record of development and I'm very excited to see what Donovan Edwards can do for the Wolverines this year and I think he is going to be hard to stop and very painful for opposing defensive coordinators and defensive players and No.5 - A Powerful OL number five speaking of the offensive line does this unit reload despite the fact that they lost six players well reloading is a strong word but let's say they reinforce not with the same amount of veterans not with the same amount of ceiling I do tend to think that this offensive line on an average basis will be similar to last year's in the regular season with a lower ceiling potentially the worst over the past Four Seasons if we count the 2024 season in that Bunch so avoiding the the disaster that was 2020 but watching the spring game which you can't take much away from the spring game but I think in the trenches if they allow players to be physical I think you can take away that aspect away from Spring games because it's blocking it's pushing it's strength scheme is involved there of course but you just get to see raw power against Power still and Michigan's trenches the defensive line being the best in the country the offensive line held up well against them and given that there are experienced players returning who've learned under the best I think that this offensive line is being undervalued entering this coming season miles Hinton is the only proven player who's returning in the sense that he has St he has a high rating from Pro Football Focus and his ceiling is insane but still this offensive line will be better than most think and that's because one Chiron Moore has had sole authority over this o line until this season from 2021 up until now so all the players who are starting who are experienced have mostly or solely been trained by shiron Moore one of the best offensive line minds and coaches in the country and many of these players also have experience look at Greg krippen Giovani elhadi they've had several snaps over not just last year but the previous two seasons overall per Pro Football Focus just from last year they return 1,380 six snaps with an average rating of a 62.9 per snap which means the average snap and performance of that snap was just above average in college football which is good but I think they're going to exceed that rating and I think Grant Newsome will do a good job on the offensive line this unit it won't reload but it will reinforce and I'm going to go bold and say that they'll be better at run blocking specifically at creating explosive run plays compared to last year's team in regards to pass block there are some questions with Gentry and even Hinton and I'm curious to see how Greg krippin and the interior of that offensive line does as well but I'm more so trending toward optimism rather than pessimism at number six Michigan's No.6 - Great Defensive Coordinator running the same defensive scheme that they have ran that they have executed over the previous three seasons and with the defense returning far more production than the offense that's something that you got to like wink marale is the architect of Michigan's current 425 defense except I think his defense will be more aggressive given that he was Blitz happy in the NFL which I think contributed to some of his failures his defenses with the Ravens slowly regressed and he wasn't exactly a success with the Giants but then again who is I mean the Lions have been terrible for all of my lifetime except for last year and maybe the year before or maybe some Mirage Seasons under Jim Caldwell the Giants in recent memory have just been a clown car but Martin Dale is still a great defensive coordinator and seeing that this is his scheme it's built to run his defense and he has elite players I think he'll be at home I was very critical of his hiring and Michigan fans know that who watch this channel it's not because I think he's terrible or bad or average I think he's good in fact I think he's great maybe even near Elite I wanted an elite defensive coordinator though one of the top five coordinators in the country and I hope that marale proves me wrong and he ends up being a top five defensive coordinator in college football but again we'll have to wait and see per S&P plus 2023 Michigan had the second best defenses of the 2000s only behind Alabama's legendary 2011 defense in fact that means per Bill Connelly's S&P plus metric which is objective Based on data relative performance Michigan's defense was more successful than 2021 or 2022 Georgia even 2016 or 17 Alabam defenses that had a far higher Blue Chip ratio what Jesse Mentor did at Michigan and the development that Ben Herbert Steve clink scale Chris Partridge you can even add in George Hilo who was the linebacker coach I think in 21 and also 22 and on the defensive line Mike ston they did a phenomenal job I love Lu Paco I have more questions about Brian Jee Marie and Lamar Morgan compared to espacito but those hires are still good and they have a veteran defensive mind so this defense will be one of the best potentially the number one defense in college football though Ohio state with greater returning production and I think a more proven College coordinator in Jim nolles certainly has something to say No.7 - Underrated Head Coach about that at number seven speaking again of Ohio State the urban Meer to Ryan Day Theory that's what I'm naming this the theory is that Elite head coaches set up their successors well because they build a good system and when they hire from within if they're truly Elite head coaches if they when they leave they're still Innovative they're still training their staff and players well that they will produce a good head coach at least one from their staff sabbin produced multiple great head coaches or at least good head coaches look at Steve sarkeesian at Texas look at Kirby Smart at Georgia who's the number one coach in college football there were others who flamed out but to produce coaches who are winning their conferences or in Smart's case winning championships that's very impressive Urban Meyer he produced Ryan Day who I think is an elite head coach in college football I think that Jim Harbaugh is going to be looked at as someone who helped produce Chiron Moore who I think is a better head coach than many think I'm much higher on him than most and when I release my coaching rankings for this season which will happen I'd say in the next two months I can't exactly promise when that list will come out cu it's not nearly done Chiron Moore will be ranked ahead of a lot of big 10 head coaches that have more experience than him because like Ryan day he revolutionized the offens of a blue blood program he managed games when Urban was suspended Day One games when Harbaugh was suspended more One games and they didn't just revolutionize the offense of those programs they revolutionized a critical position group day revolutionized the quarterback room he helped Urban Meyer be able to pass efficiently with the quarterback Dwayne Haskins for example rest in peace to him and Chiron Moore made Michigan's offense who had NFL talent for years but whether it was Taylor lean or Caesar Ruez depending on the year you look at they struggled with cohesion more made cohesive offensive lines that were Elite that were awesome and that last year were able to step up in the biggest moments to fight facing several injuries and dominate opponents this is a premature and bold prediction which is why it's at number seven and not number one but I think Moore will be similar today in that regard that he will retain an elite program uh I don't know if he'll upgrade it or not we'll have to see how recruiting goes we'll have to see how the following Seasons go I think day has upgraded the program compared to Urban Meyer I wouldn't be shocked if Moore did that given how Jim Harbaugh certainly I think placed limitations on his own program he has little head coaching experience but he transformed Michigan's offensive line and offense and last season he proved that I think he's a wise game manager in the making so he's a tactician he can develop and he can also recruit he's recruited well on the offensive line those are like the three things that you No.8 - High-Quality LBs want in a head coach I think more is showing signs of all of them number eight we have underrated linebackers Ernst Housman and J Barham are proven Big 10 linebackers and Housman given his time at Nebraska in 2022 and Michigan last year he has a very high ceiling physical athletic player and Barham was a freshman All-American in 2022 so they still have some youth to them they could come back in 2024 depending on what they want to do and Housman also played in in 15 all 15 of Michigan's games last season so a key contributor someone who knows what it's like to be on an elite defense the linebacker as Jason huet said in my interview with him linebacker the quarterback of the defense there you ha you have to be smart at linebacker to successfully command the defense to be the computer of the defense to read signals to call out signals I've never played college football but you can tell that with linebacker quarterback you command your respective units so houseman's going to going to have to step up this season but given his experience the fact that Michigan really wanted him how he shined at Nebraska and Barham a great player and one of Maryland's better defensive players is transferring in I'm optimistic about this linebacker room much like I am for example about Ohio State's linebacker room they lost two of their starters but these great programs with great defenses or great offenses when you are great or Elite on one side of the ball and you lose production sometimes returning production while being a good indicator can at times be almost voided I mean look at Alabama look at Georgia look at Ohio State those three programs have often time and time again voided returning production or while you see that they've regressed they're still competing for national championships and maybe even with a worse power ranked team they go on to achieve greater things than the prior season maybe that's the case with Michigan linebacker it'll be challenging but we'll have to see in terms of production they return 83 total tackles three sacks a pass defended in the linebacker room and they're deep there as well with several four stars ready to step up at number nine we have the tight end room this may No.9 - An All-American TE it maybe in retrospect should have been put ahead of the linebackers because you have coulston Loveland who should be the best tight end in the country returning but in my mind with the loss of AJ Barner and also the understandable questions with the passing game period and the lack of returning production on offense I could see the tight end room if the offense plays to its floor even with great players it would it would not be used as much because in order to use your star wide receivers your star tight ends your quarterback has to be at least good good or above average or serviceable in the passing department and Ohio State fans can tell you about that Penn State fans can tell you about that last year when they had Aller and McCord and McCarthy despite not having the same group of receivers that Ohio state did and having similar tight ends and only slightly not slightly better but not too Superior receivers to Penn States had a much more efficient passing offense coulston Loveland was one of the best tight ends in college football last year he's the only returning offensive starter from 2023 he's an All-American in my mind and Briston kleene tan and Marshall could step up big this year in service of him whether the in the blocking role especially the receiving role Michigan is just in need of receivers and them accepting a morian walker back to Michigan this time as a receiver showed the desperation that Michigan has for that receiver position I love CJ Charleston but the wide receiver room is not on this list and very understandably so Michigan tight ends returned several contributors the biggest one being Colston Loveland and they returned 676 receiving yards four receiving touchdowns most of that being Del Loveland but bres was a great contributor in blocking and kleene had limited playing time last year and tan and Marshall redshirted so this room I No.10 - Great Special Teams think is ready to surprise some people this season and I'm excited to see that happen at number 10 we have epic special teams JB Brown is the new special teams coordinator he's been an analyst and ass assistant in regards to special teams over the previous few seasons with the Wolverines given his history and his current players this group I think is very impressive you have Tommy Dolen at punter samage Morgan at return specialist and incoming transfer kicker Dominic Zada who's a weapon he's hit multiple 50 yard field goals he's made 85% of his field goal attempts Dolan averaged 44.3 yards per punt last year in terms of net punting he was fourth in the Big 10 he comes back and samj Morgan as shown against Iowa in that big 10 championship game Iowa was a lead at special teams he still got through and if he just just had more gas in the tank and that comes with age that comes with conditioning that comes with learning and experience that would have been a touchdown and thankfully Michigan's offense was able to convert that elite special team's play into a touchdown this room has high ceiling performance and with the incoming kicker in zvada I think Michigan special teams in the kicking department will probably be like last year with James Turner coming in from Michigan and doing very well there I do think that at the return specialist position obviously you want less punts to be muffed I think that will be cleaned up as Michigan was one of the worst teams in the country in that area last season and Tommy dolman with another year of experience should get better as well and finally at number 11 Bonus - Alex Orji's Skillset this is a bonus one and this is a bonus one because Alex orgy has a lot to prove this year and I don't even have him as an all all big 10 player for the honorable mention section I don't have him there he is a player with raw untested talent however I believe he fits the structure of this offense well why is that well the offensive line given what we know about their training and some of their experience with tight end coulston leveland returning with Donovan Edwards in the running back room still deep and a defense that will give the offense multiple drives and multiple opportunities so Michigan's offense won't have to engage in shootouts every week and the o line again is still deep with his running capability I think that his skill set fits this offense perfectly running back o line and tight end provide security and him utilizing his scrambling abilities and having available checkdowns like at tight end for example or Edwards out of the backfield or maybe CJ Charleston and and samage Morgan and Frederick Moore at wide receiver again this will not be nearly the same passing offense as last year this will probably be a similar level of passing offense compared to the 2021 unit if not worse which quite frankly isn't even close to great it's above average or average maybe below average or even bad is what we'll see but his running capability he's Michigan's best scrambling quarterback that we've seen in the past three seasons 40 and3 run and with Edwards coming back the offensive line I think being much more proven and highly capable than people believe and still having a reliable receiver at tight end maybe even at running back and a wide receiver or two one of them will likely break out this offense can have checkdowns they can keep the defense honest with passing but they can ground and pound and I think if he maximizes his his his athleticism this team will be elite but that's a big if though so I'm not going with that what I'm going with is rather if he's just above average this offense will have one of the best rushing attacks or most reliable rushing attacks in college football and their passing offense will still be serviceable and a serviceable passing game with a good or great or even Elite ground game with an elite defense that makes a team that's in the top 10 and more likely than that especially with this year being a down year that makes a top five team so I think Michigan's a top five team entering 2024 they'll win 11 or more regular season games and they will win one potentially more college football playoff games thank you all so much for watching this video remember to hit that like button subscribe to the channel click the notification Bell and comment your thoughts down below thanks to crash 2488 for sponsoring this video along with brascar Rascal as Heisman member thanks to Chris Lane and Conor little o for sponsoring this video and channel as All American members and thanks to John Lynn roing gnome Matthew sale Austin Christmas and Janisha Cockrell for sponsoring this video and channel as all conference members have a great day guys and I will see you all soon bye-bye
