when you wake up and want to know what's going on good day you and I we tell you what's in we want you to know about this college life and that's the only thing the only thing that's right good my name is Dar I am a member here at the University Alabama of the national Society also a member of the television show here on campus called good day and what we're about to show you is a segment that is offspring of good day which is our version of college game day live please take a look and enjoy hello everyone it is a beautiful afternoon as we welcome to Spirit taking y'all hey they they are live out here this evening for homecoming 2014 we are here youa Western Oregon let's do this let's do this all right all right this is the first meeting between these two teams una comes in 3 and0 Western Oregon 2 and two what is a record going to say about this game does it matter at all well normally in this in a situation where you have a homecoming team coming a team coming in for homecoming you would think a record really wouldn't matter but we haven't seen this team this team is not in the GSC so we really don't we don't know if the two and two is a strong two and two because we don't know the level of competition but I feel like with the way the Lions have played the last three games this will be a I ain't going to say easy matchup but I think it's going to be more of a lighter match up compared to last week absolutely Daren and one thing uh Western Oregon they're going to be without their starting quarterback today unfortunately he's down with an injury and they're a very pass happy offense so you got Trey shim burar he's coming in he's only completed 10 passes but he is a senior and he's played in this offense before so he's going to be ready to step in Joe Harris is the feature back in this set he's only got 19 two yards on the season they're averaging 2.1 yards they're really going to have to get the running game going today to help Shima buru move the offense but una's defense has been playing Stout all all season and I think uh the Western Oregon wolves are going to have a hard time moving the ball today and even even on uh the offensive side of the football for una this has been a very run heavy team under traditionally under Bobby Wallace he always has a run-heavy football team right now we have our uh leading running back who was a all GSC player in the Lamonte Thompson who has almost 314 yards this year he's getting about seven yards per carry so look for the Lions especially with starting quarterback Luke winko not playing to rely heavily on the running backs of Lamonte Thompson and his backup Diamond Simmons well you've also got Jacob Tucker who runs the ball a lot and and Tucker is not your average backup they do a two quarterback system here so Tucker has gotten rips Tucker is more of the runner of the two he's more quicker to make a play with his feet where Wingo will make a play with his arms so look for a lot of Zone read a lot of options and a lot of outside sweeps between Tucker and Wingull trying to get this defense on the edges absolutely Daren I think you're you're right on par with that and with Jacob Tucker in today luk wingo's sitting out so there's going to be two backup quarterbacks in but as Darion mentioned Jacob Tucker plays a lot in the offense so he's going to be ready to go there's four running back or three running backs including Jacob Tucker all averaging over five yards to carry so they're going to be able to run the football they're averaging almost 300 yard a game on the ground so they're going to stick with that you can look for Tyler Johnson start middle Lineback for Western Oregan he's 62 250 pounds he really gets in there and clogs the hole he's going to he of a excuse me he's going to have to have a heck of a game if they're going to stop the UNA running attack today and and and don't forget about the passing attack this passing attack is much better than it was last year like last year the Lions had the number third the number three ranked rushan attack in the GC but passing wise this offense is giving you over handy Dy notes people always great always great it's tag big Le but the the the offense is giving you over 400 yards per game this year so between Tucker and wingo they are spreading the ball out look for Lee mayal Cory Jones and Marquel Washington to be the targets for Jacob turker today in the passing game absolutely they're going to they're going to try to spread it out with tuck ER in the game today I'm expecting to really rely on the Run Western Oregon they're used to seeing some passing teams so it's going to be a big question today are they going to change their defense they they usually run a standard 4-3 set and they like to move their hybrid linebacker out and play the slot receiver but they're playing a lot of West Coast pass happy offenses out on the west coast and they're going to come in today and they're going to see a team that's really even though we run us uh excuse me even though una runs a spread they're really going to come in and try to stack the box I think and try to stop that run like I mentioned earlier you can look for the linebacker Tyler Johnson to come in big guy he's going to come in almost playing like a defensive tackle in the middle linebacker spot and really try to come in there and stop the run and I want to mention something too Daran if you look at Western Oregon's offense they have a guy by the name of Paul revas number six you can watch out for him today he's averaging 18.8 yards a catch he's got over 20 uh he's got over 20 catches on the season he's also their punt returner and their kick returner he's averaged at 225. five yards allpurpose yardage so unaa better have their eyes on number six or he can cause the Lions a lot of trouble this afternoon well you bring up number six and you bring that he is having averaging 18 yards per catch una has two all GSC players in the secondary cornerback Philbert Marshall and safety Floyd Jones look for that match up and also another strong corner on the other side at 511 Levi felt so una has sides in the secondary to match the production that Western Oregon is going to bring with the passing attack okay we think of the victory last week came down to a 54 yd field goal School record Taylor ponas how important is special teams for this game special teams will be a key for this game in field positioning whenever you play a team that has a offensive philosophy of spreading the ball out a air raid or a shotgun philosophy you never want to give them short field so look for punts to be booted in between the excuse me between the 25 and the 30 yard line and look for kickoffs to touch the end zone you want to start a team like this off at the 20 at all times absolutely you know you always hear coaches say there's three phases to the football game offense defense and special teams and often times we Overlook special teams but I've seen games won by special teams alone today uh I know Taylor ponus he set the school record with the big kick last week against valon State 54 yards and and he's going to have a lot of confidence coming in if we need him or excuse me if unaa needs him to make a big field goal today but you know a lot of this game is going to determine who can control the line of scrimmage and we'll see if special teams makes the play later in the game so you got quarterback Jacob Tucker who is set to lead the Lions because luk Mingo is out how do you think they're going to fa against the Western Oregon defense I believe Tucker will put up numbers Tucker I've watched him play for the last year and a half he's a quarterback if I could put him in any mind of any quarterback professionally or collegially I will put him in the mind of Aaron Rogers for the Green Bay Packers Aaron Rogers is a very mobile athletic guy with a strong arm Tucker is very mobile but not only is he mobile he can stand in the pocket because he's about 61 or 6'2 and he can read the defense and Coach gross is going to tailor made this offense to where he will have his weapons running short routes look for Lee mayal to to work the slot to run SL slant routes and Corner routes and out routes look for Cory Jones who is 6'4 look for him to be a Target that Tucker throws the ball to in the Red Zone tonight absolutely Daren you know there's so many weapons on the outside and Jacob Tucker is just a multifaceted quarterback but I really think they're going to come out today and I think they're going to try to establish the Run Jacob Tucker's averaging nearly seven yards to carry U you got Lamonte Thompson or running back but we have there's a transfer Taj Kimbell from Boston College who's in the unaa backfield along with diamond Simmons who's contributed for the last two years I expect them to come out and really established to run the big question for me today is Western Oregon running their 4-3 offense I mean excuse me their 4-3 defense are they going to make any changes we're going to be fortunate enough to have head coach AR Ferguson of Western Oregon on the show later I don't know what he's going to tell us but I don't know if their defense is going to change because the type of offense they're going to see today is going to be a lot different than what they see in their conference and if they was to change the defense running the B when you run a base 4-3 defense that means you have four down linemen and three linebackers the problem with running a base 4-3 defense against a team that rushes the ball is that extra man that extra Defender so look out for a safety to come in the box and the term eight in the box is when you bring that stronger you bring that free safety down and he plays as another linebacker so essentially that becomes a 4-4 defense absolutely it's going to be a great match up and I'm really looking forward to see what adjustments they make because I definitely think they're going to have something to keep up with that unaa offense but I'll tell you out on the west coast I've seen some of the games out there I've had a chance to watch film and and they're going to see an atmosphere tonight like they've never seen before with all the UNA faithful behind this really getting loud tonight so I wonder I wonder too how how their offense is going to be able to handle a lot of the noise they're going to hear in broy stadium this afternoon okay what about Western Oregon they're starting with a backup quarterback how do you think that's going to play in change their game or is it going to be the same because he's also a senior well experience when you're a senior you're under a program and even with him being a backup he's practiced under that that system so he knows that system well we don't know how many games he's played in the past but depending on how long he's been there if he's been there four if he's been there five years he's played in games before so I trust that he will be able to come in and and give them a chance to make plays now this is the number three ranked defense in the GSC so making plays is going to be hard to do but I believe that he'll come in and do his best to make better plays and a freshman backup or a sophomore backup you know absolutely dared and you made a great point when you're in a system you know how to play it and that's so key because sometimes we look at arm strength and mobility and talent but sometimes you have to understand the system and I think this guy's going to know what to do now he is three for 10 for 32 yards on the season so so just a little bit of backup Duty they've been in a lot of competitive football games they've lost two close games they've won two close games so he had hasn't had a lot of reps this season but like I said you know he's going to be excited coming down to play the number five team in the nation in division 2 he's going to be excited I'm sure he's going to know his notes and he's going to be ready to go so it's going to be interesting to watch how that unfolds this afternoon I agree I agree our very own welcome back we're joined by Western Oregon University coach AR Ferguson hi thank you for being with us well thanks for having us this is a great opportunity um I hope this keeps oh it was wasn't too bad um we lost a day of practice on Thursday um we got in about 7:30 um left about 4:30 um but our kids are excited to be here and and know that to see a different part of the world okay so to speak and then we're Alabama where football's very important um they've been very impressed with what they've seen so far and excited to see what they can show can you walk us through how they prepare like what's a practice like um a practice is uh you know normally we have Mondays off but we we so we met Sunday after a long trip back from Humble we got back at 3 o'cl in the morning uh played a very good team uh feel like we had our chances we just need to execute better um and then uh so we did practice on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday we practiced at 6:30 in the morning um until 8:30 and then uh on Thursday we left at 4:30 got here at 7:30 p.m. um we lost a couple hours on on the trip because the time changed and then we actually had a really nice practice on on the campus yesterday and uh walk through this morning with special teams and walk through this afternoon before we got on the bus so you're starting with a backup quarterback M how how ready do you think he is um Trac mura is a senior um be honest he's taken the Reps for the last three weeks um Ryan Bergman who we feel is All American quarterback uh banged up his shoulder in the last play that he threw a touchdown at uh Portland State U so it's just banged up and sore so we've been limiting that so Trey's been taking those Reps for three weeks now so he just needs to settle down you just took his first start takes time for quarterbacks um but uh coach Harris does a really nice job of of putting things in that maximize his quick release he does have a very quick release and also our little receivers do have some speed but also North Alabama has some speed so that will be the gauge of the game um and then we got to open up to to run the football also and I want to ask you coach getting a chance to watch North Alabama on film um played a lot of West Coast team so what they present defensively do you think there's challenges that they're going to present that you may not have seen from other teams um surprisingly defensively it's very similar to our conference and to the Pack 12 and then a big scy very similar there uh offensively um you know you runs more of a power quarterback which is different than anybody that we play um you know we know the quarterback has a hurt shoulder a little bit whether we going to see him or not we anticipate seeing him um CU he's such a good competitive player um but also the backup and the other backups are also in s playing time but that's different that power game of the quarterback um very similar so should I say when TBO was at Florida you're not the Oregon offense Oregon like University of Oregon where that quarterback can really run it's that power that also has good speed okay um the physicalness at the line of scrimmage uh in the South you know you see a lot of bigger offensive defensive linemen which you you will see facing the Lions did you did you warn your team your offense and your defensive lineman about the different amount of physicality that they're going to see um that'll be interesting to see um you know we played uh Grand Valley before U we played Carson Newman before we play Texas Kingsville before um and traditionally our o d line has held up very well um we're not at full strength um with our o line we're missing three starters 165 360 um the other one is 62 340 you know so we're missing those guys a little bit we just got one back that's 66 you know uh 325 so we feel that we're all about in the same ballpark uh but offensively you know what they do Northern Alabama does creates a little bit of different things that we're not used to which really gains an extra guy at the point of attack so our safeties how well they play uh will be determining factor of that and then uh we are concerned with the humidity normally going in we played uh not we played um Carson Newman is pretty humid this is just like Oregon maybe even a little bit colder so this is going to be really nice for players to to feel like it's not a huge change of humidity which was our biggest concern coming in because those big players wear on you is what the real issue is really really he normally is yeah so they just knew we were coming and gave us a chance so a little bit for you guys now I got to ask you I've looked at uh his name Tyler Johnson pretty big linebacker in the middle for you guys um you I kind of watched him on film he like he's really built for the run better maybe better more so than the pass just a big guy of stuff so how important is it that your linebackers really get there and feel the holes tonight to kind of make unaa kind of go to the outside because I mean unaa is averaging almost 300 yards a game on the ground and that's what they want to do so talk about him a little bit and just your defense and how you going to try to attack the line of scrimmage that way yeah first of all Craig Akens is our our DN and also can be a middle linebacker for us um he's an All-American candidate um number eight who's moved humble for example out of 25 runs only ran two to him so we know that you know he's that type of player but also he has good matchups with the tight ends that we see here um very physical obviously 66 245 one of them and then the other ones you know 235 64 um so that will be a factor there a middle linebacker will be key to being square and building a wall with the Run game uh we've had middle bigger middle linebackers he's only ret of freshman uh first time starting and he's getting better and better but he's a 235 kid that likes playing and then we have a couple other guys that are similar that we need to also keep in the game so that the o line doesn't wear us down in the running game but the the other thing also is is the speed of the running backs and the number 24 the slots you know um the other running back those those four guys that can really run so you can't pack it too much otherwise you have too much of your eggs in one basket and then you leave the outside vulnerable absolutely absolutely U one last thing you saw I don't know if you saw filming that but last week was one on the 54 yd field goal so did you you know tell your team special teams could possibly be important uh we go into every game with with trying to win that special teams battle um our best players play on special teams we have significant starters and also some guys that are better than our starters on those special teams areas um so travel has limited us a little bit you know we normally play 63 to 66 players um per home game um so that's limit us a little bit um um but the weather is going to cooperate will help but special teams I think will be the key to this game along with the Run game on both sides coach it's going to be a great match up tonight I know know we're all looking forward to it there's a lot of fans here looking forward to it I actually wanted to ask one more thing yes I was wondering if you guys got to do anything around when you got here um straight we are uh rad came with us which is nice a couple of Brewsters came with us they've had some good times um football's business you know and we know that playing number five team in the nation um they're number five for a reason um you know I was fortunate to watched Central Washington when they were number one in the nation for I think about four years ago all the way through and played Northwest Missouri and lost with an extra point being blocked with a minute and then Northwest Missouri blows everybody out by 20 to 30 so we understand the level of football that we're doing so we didn't have much time though okay that's good though must be ready thank you so much bu best of luck to you this after appreciate best of luck coach it's really nice for you guys to do this keep it up thank you sir Okay so we've got football games being played all over the nation today top four in the SEC we got LSU Auburn Old Miss Alabama Mississippi State Texas A&M who played earlier and Florida and Tennessee also play Florida kept the streak alive Mississippi State took Texas A&M down all right what are you thinking about Old Miss Alabama well Old Miss like we mentioned earlier Old Miss their college game day there today the ideal was 150,000 bow TI he's been going to campuses for 15 years they've never been to Oxford this is the first time a game has been so big that uh Chris Bor and the Gang decided to go over there they're going to be pumped up they're going to be fired up as I mentioned uh Robert n nuchi nuchi kadich Robert kuchi is a is a great defensive lineman and that defense is going to put a lot of pressure on Alabama starting with him they're they're going to be pued up they're going to play probably their best game but Alabama and Nick Sabin one of the greatest coaches of all time he even talks about how he likes to play on the road there's less distractions also you look at the quarterback match up you have Blake Sims and Bo Wallace and Bo Wallace is kind of Dr jeo and Mr Hyde but he's going to play a great defense tonight and I think we may see Mr Hyde and I'm expecting Blake Sims to continue rolling to prove why he is the starting quarterback in Alabama and while the competition and the controversy is over with I like Alabama to pull away in the second half I got him by double digits first of all there never been a controversy I believed in Blake Sims from the moment they spring camp started I believe that like you said it's going to be a tough game in the first half I believe that defense is going to give Alabama's offense some problems in the first half because you have Robert kichi and in you have his brother at the linebacker you have physical defensive backs for o Miss Hugh frees built that defense to play against Alabama when he came to oh miss he was let me recruit let me find players to match the physicality and the strength of the Alabama Crimson Tide with that being said offensively I think it is too much for Old Miss to handle you have Blake Sims playing magnificent he's completing over 73% of his passes he has eight touchdowns only two interceptions Amari Cooper is the best receiver in college absolutely you can triple team him you can box him you can Zone him bracket him it doesn't matter Blake Sims is finding Amari Cooper Derk Henry TJ yelen this offense is loaded too much and it's going to be too much for this for the uh Rebels and I'll tell you what that's a great Point Mari Cooper the best wide receiver in the country you don't see many receivers in the Heisman uh talk but this deserves to be a real candidate he's that good and I'll tell you the match up is going to be fun to watch it's cam Robinson that left tackle for Alabama going against uh Robert Robert Kish how about LSU okay that is going to be a very interesting game because we don't know what LSU is going which LSU is going to show up okay we don't know if it's the LSU that played against latch or we don't know if it's the LSU that played against Mississippi State or even the LSU that came back in the opening game against it Wisconsin but I do know G maon and that arburn offense will get back on track today this is not the same LSU defense simply because they lost too much talent to the NFL when you when you lose the guys that they have lost throughout the years the the tyan Matthews the uh Morris Clayborn the the pleora defensive lineman and linebackers they had it's hard to rebuild that with freshman uh they also starting for the first time on the road a 18y old true freshman and uh Brandon Harris in joint air Stadium I I don't think Les Miles is a great coach I've seen him pull out victories in the pass but I think this might be a little too much for him even now well we got a little windy here folks but um you know I think Dari makes he makes a lot of excellent points this LSU defense is not as good as it has been in years past you like you mentioned foris Clayborn and Tyron Matthew and Patrick Peterson and list goes on there's been so many great players but Auburn coming in the season number six ranked team in the nation last year they were kind of like a freight train rolling downhill they really got it going it took great play by jamus Winston and Kelvin Benjamin in Florida State to even come back and win that national championship game and they and I think that the momentum has not carried over I think they played above their standard last year and they probably they really got lucky to pull out a win at Kansas State they've been playing to me very average football I don't think there's good as their ranking Les Miles to Matt Hatter he's always known to pull an upset I think they can come in and stack the box tonight make Nick Marshall pass now they may go to Jeremy Johnson if this happens I think they going to stack the Box making pass look for that true freshman Leonard forette the running back number one player in the country recruited last year to come to LSU they're going to hit the running game Brandon Harris last week he came in as a true freshman as Daren mentioned earlier and after uh the starter Anthony Jennings through two interceptions the first two possessions he comes in nine straight touchdowns and nine straight drives now don't get me wrong New Mexico state is not Auburn or Auburn is not New Mexico state but at the end of the day LSU comes on the road freshman quarterback freshman running back Stacks the Box on defense make n make Nick Marshall make plays with his arms I don't think he can do it I got LSU late with a field goal okay let's let go to the big going to e laning to michig St think that I believe uh Michigan State I believe is going to pull it off it's going to be closer than what people would think what the experts predict air doua I believe will have a big game he's not going to have a huge game he's not going to have over 200 yards like he's been having the last four because Michigan state is a top 10 defense it's like I said if it's not if if we're comparing it to an SEC Defense Michigan state is the closest in the nation to an SEC defense they're physical upfront and they have a legion of boom style secondary and I think that secondary is physical enough that Mike dantonio will drop one of his safeties down in the box and give it give Nebraska a hard time and give Amir Abdullah a hard time running the football I got Michigan stake in a close one but it's at home it's too much for him you know I'm going to go with Darion here I think that Nebraska's playing great football and Amir Abdullah phenomenal running back he's up there with your Todd gures and Melvin Gordon he's one of the top five backs in the country I think they're going to try to go to him early and often but Mark de Antonio as Daran mentioned great defensive coordinator he's really going to stack that boxing he's going to bring probably the eighth guy up and really make Tommy Armstrong the third have to go vertical and hit him I don't think Miss migan State's going to roll their coverage much they're just going to play Smashmouth up front Conor cook has really given them something they have not had in the last seven or eight years as well as Mark de Antonio has done it really making that program and really building it up they have not had the quarterback play it's been defense and running the football running footall Conor Cook's hitting the ball he's he's getting them vertical he's getting them off balance I think behind that home crowd tonight I think Michigan State's a team that can really get back in the Run for this 14 playoff I think I think I'm going to take Michigan State who we just talked about I know they lost early to Oregon they really played well in that game and marota made a few plays but that was the early loss that was on the road I think they're going to run the table in the conference I think they're going to win the Big 10 again I'm going to take them in the playoffs I think Alabama is just such a dynamic team their offense is so much smoother than it was last year Nick sain the best coach in college football so much talent I think they could run the table if they don't I think one loss will get them in I think they're going to win the SEC West and I mean and I think they'll end up winning the championship game um Florida State by default I'm taking Florida State I don't think they're as good as they were last year I don't think they're the national championship team they played last year but the ACC to me is probably the weaker of the five power conferences so I think they can get through that schedule and get back but I I don't see them really making a hard run when they get there and and as much as I lik Oregon having to take them out I'm going to look at the big 12 Oklahoma has a big match up today or tonight against TCU we'll see what happens there but they'll play Baylor down the road Oklahoma's lost two games in the last n years at Memorial Stadium Memorial Stadium they're an unbelievable home team they're going to get Baylor at home I think that matchup is going to determine who wins the Big 12 the winner of that game I believe will go undefeated so I think Oklahoma's going to get in so I've got Alabama Oklahoma Florida State Michigan state is my four how about you Daren okay well I'm going to be a little biased to the region that we are in and break it down like this um I think Oregon messed it up for themselves Thursday night but I will say it'll take either between Oregon or UST la playing strong strong to finish the year to give the voters an opportunity but I will get Florida State by default because they are the defending national champions and ACC is weak Alabama who is going to be the SEC West winner and the SEC Champion Baylor I believe Baylor is going to run the table if they get get past Texas which I believe they'll they'll beat Texas P Oklahoma and Oklahoma yes I believe they get P I like Bryce Petty in that offense uh so I got Florida state Alabama Baylor my fourth team is actually going to be another sec School Mississippi State wow Dak Prescott wow Dan Mullen Mississippi state is going to be the fourth team to make the playoffs this year do you agree with this new method I me you seem enthusiastic about it do you agree with the playoff versus the champion series I I like the playoffs I just hope in years to come they expand it to a 16 playoff like the NFL yeah get more people involved I agree with Daren I think we need to continue to expand the playoff system but you know to me it's all about a step in the right direction I think the BCS was just old and it wasn't working and there was a lot of teams that made a strong AR argument year in and year out to be in the championship game but because of the system they couldn't even play it out on the field so four is better than two but like Darion mentioned earlier I think we need to get to eight ultimately get to 16 and really play it off on the field because these guys deserve that opportunity and they may you know they may get there you never know but thank you all right we'll be right back all right welcome back we here with gab po who is assistant linebackers coach and you were on last year's gold conference Champion team and you were named First Team all GC player all right thank you for being us no problem ask you to know all right all right Gabe um you you know firsthand this defense that coach will is putting on the field cuz you played in it but you also know yourself tarz Wilson and Brion James were the the stronghold of this defense last season what do you see edric Harris and uh jayen Jones and the rest of your linebackers that are remind you of your crew from last year Well I see much of the same in in in their physicalities wise you know uh they all make good plays uh jayen plays a little uh up in rusher for us so he gets a lot of pressure on the quarterback um create turnovers and make stops you know and cuse Havoc when they get get there so I see a lot of what we did in them because you know they kind of watched it we kind of pulled ourselves into them at the season went on I think they're just putting out on the field right now Gabe after getting a chance to follow you guys all all year last year your defense the linebackers are playing well but the fact is you just don't replace gay gay po Brion James andaris Wilson from the defense so we're kind of doing a little bit more by committee this year so just talk about this year how how you think it does help that there's more guys playing because you guys just didn't come off the field last year well what when you roll more guys you got you keep guys fresh do guys do different things well and and when do and they come situational players and you can put a guy in third and third and 10 you can make him a rush end guy you can put a guy back in coverage when it's third and 11 cuz you know you going get a pick so you know you got put guys in certain situations that best fit them for them to make the best plays for the team could you say cuz coming in preseason into this season we knew the strongholds of this defense we knew up front you had leadership and experience and talent in the back end you had young experienced Talent will you say going into the third or fourth week of the season is the defense molded together as a unit as talent and experience or is it still the line the the secondary in your front fourward is what's holding the defense what I feel like we we we're building chemistry as we go along um we were young we were in experienced a little bit in in in the as far as in the back last season but those guys def up now becoming leaders because they have more playing time they have those War those that that war that war time in in the trenches um the guys up front are doing what they do best and that's leading and the guys that are at lineb just falling into place so that chemistry is coming together we're molding together and I think we comeing one uh good defense well Gabe I got a question for you inste just focusing on una's defense as a whole in what you guys are doing let's talk about our match up tonight against Western Oregon uhhuh there's a kid named Paul Rivas he's got 22 catches on the year 43 yards he's averaging almost 20 yards a catch he's also a kickoff and punt returner he's got over 225 yards a total offense a game talk about how Dynamic this kid is can hit you how he can get it short and make moves how he can beat you vertically what's the key to stopping this guy tonight or at least trying to contain him well he's an explosive player and and we know that from the film study but the thing is you just got to do your best to contain them and don't let them big play you you know uh give them space or rather to the ball to make tackles you have to be we have to be very athletic and and and very aware where he is on the field at all times and stopping him and not letting him make big plays and doing what he does best with that being said also this is a Airway attack we know they pass the ball they spread him out kind of like how a West Side would spread you out how like a Delta would spread you out what did you tell your in particular your linebackers and then your defense we know the secondary but what did you tell your linebackers about watching for the pass in the passing game in the passing game it's pretty much just you got to understand uh your coverages where your help is and Route recognition you got to read rout and you got to be to pass rout off to your help you got to know that a saf is coming down outside you don't have to jump that uh that corner route so fast you can slow play it P to the inside and take that inside route away from it you got to be smart and know know know your leverage you know understand the passing game and and be smart you know and and don't don't do too much do what you do when it's your time to make a big play and that's the biggest thing I told him to do just to stay focused and do that tonight with uh the the uh starting quarterback who I think could be with maybe they're one of their better players in the conference up there he's out tonight and they're going with uh I've butchered this guy's name all day Trey shim bero and he's uh he's a senior so he's been in the system and he knows this office now he's 3 for 10 for 32 yards or something just mop up D you a little bit but they are a passing team as Darion mentioned and and only averag of 2.1 yards a carry on the ground but do you think they may go away from what they usually do to try to take some pressure off him or do you think they're just going to say hey this is our offense and we expect everybody know how to run it I I think he's since he's been a senior he's been in system for a while and he's been waiting for his time to come I I don't think the fact that he's H got as many snaps as he would like that he's not ready I think he's prepared I think he's been sitting back and waiting on his time I think they're going to give him a couple of short pass to get him in Rhythm and then try to work his way slowed down feel more and more as it gets more comfortable in in as the game goes along and I think they're going to just play as usual and not and not hold anything back on I'll tell you what I don't think a lot of people I think a lot of locals you know we think Northern Alabama and these Southern teams how good they are and and they're right there's a lot of great teams down here but I think this team came to play tonight game and I think uh you guys got to be on your toes you're going to win this ball game they're going to be ready they're be ready to go oh yeah I I feel the same way man I feel like they're going to come in they playing the underdog role they have nothing to lose you know that they they've had kind of a good game uh last two three games and they came up a little short but I think they're going to be fired up and ready to go man so I think we're going to have to definitely don't don't TR likely and uh just make plays and come out and stay focused man oh yeah well thank you so much for talking with us hey no problem at all ready for this G thank you guys than you g pleasure oh yeah always welcome back it's time to pick the game as we are joined by kenana Jones who was the running back for the 1994 una championship team it's 20 reunion tonight right yes ma'am and you hold the record I he for the longest run in National Championship history in division 2 that is correct that is correct okay so let's start off with West Georgia and West Alabama what are we thinking well I think that um the the game is is going to be a close game but I think at the end uh West George is going to pull it out okay that's a great bit kyat you know I'm going to go a little different will Hall who was uh the Harland Hill winner for una back in 2003 was the head coach of West Alabama last year he left over the he left in the last season to take the job at West Georgia and he's up there he's really building the program but West Alabama they're going to be a little angry they're going to want some revenge and I think they're going to travel up to Carolton Georgia and go into West Georgia and get the win tonight I agree with you Matt uh West Alabama as you all know played unaa last season for the championship and that was a very stiff competition they are very athletic bread base attack with a nice quarterback and also a nice scat back or running back so I believe offensively they might be a little too much for West Georgia and they get the W tonight and this is Kat Keenan who you think West Georgia West Alabama wama why his dad his dad yeah that's common in our household there got the competitive jeans already oh yeah okay let's move to old Miss and Alabama um I think that you know with Old Miss um playing at home I think the atmosphere is going to be awesome um I think that they have a lot of players coming back this this year but at the end of the day I think defense is going to win this game and I think Alabama will pull a close one out canyata I think I'm right there with you I you know they had the 150,000 bow ties this morning ESPN college game day was there they were very excited they're going to come out uh they've got probably the best defensive lineman Robert kadich in the country he's going to recre hav it Blake Sims hasn't seen a player like that but at the end of the day comes through two questions Nick Sabin Hugh freeze Hugh frees has got that program and going the right direction but Nick sa is one of the greatest coaches of all time and also Blake Sims Bo Wallace I'm not sure Bo Wallace can handle Alabama's defense I think Blake Sims is proven why he should be the quarterback of Alabama I think it'll be close in the first half but I see Alabama pulling away in the second half well I'm not going to be biased well I am going to be biased I see this being a close game in the first half but in the second half the experience of the defense the front seven of Alabama with tryer priest and Reggie Raglin and those boys being under in the system they don't have playing experience but they've been under the Kirby Smart Nick San defense they knows the defense Bo Wilders has a problem with playing against Alabama defenses he's lost he's 0 and three the last three starts against the ties defense and offensively last week L kein show why he's the best play caller in the nation it's too much Blake Sims Mario Cooper Derk TJ Elden King and Drake is too much I got Alabama BR tide all right what do you think Miss Alabama Alabama Alabama okay let's move a completely new Direction let's talk about LSU and Alburn wow what a uh that's going to be another tough matchup as we as we all know LSU has been kind of uh struggling a little bit they trying to find an identity Auburn is as we know has found an identity we know what they do offensively had a bunch of guys coming back defensively the game is in Auburn I'm going with auburn with the win kyat I think that's probably the popular pick today you know I'm look at Auburn's offense you know you've got Nick Marshall who runs that offense great Gus mazan Daren May disagree but I think Gus Mazon can make an AR be the best play caller in the nation they're really going to be going but you know Auburn was kind of a freight train running downhill last year they really caught some momentum early and they were almost Unstoppable by the end of the season it took a great play by Florida State to even win the national championship but AUB to me they started off as the number six team in the country they have not played up to that ranking I don't think they're as good as people thought they were going to be LSU last week after having a tough loss at home against Mississippi State they came back Anthony Jennings comes in he's a first year star he throws two picks in the first drive they put in the highly recruited freshman Brandon Harris he comes in the game nine straight touchdowns that's going to roll over to Auburn they're going to go down the plains and I've got less miles and the bad Hatter they're going to go down there and they're going to pull the upset the upset well Gus mes could possibly be the best play call caller in the nation as well as with L kein um that offense that Auburn runs although has been slowed down with losses of Trey Mason and the their uh HB PR J Pros two key losses on the offense but I still think it's it's too much offensively you have Cameron arens pay you got Cory Grant Nick Marshall and an exactor if ghost wants to go to two quarterback system he has Jeremy Johnson who is a better passer than Nick Marshall you have even though he's banged up a little bit Sammy coats on the outside and transfer from Jo Duke Johnson I think it to be too much this LSU defense is not the same LSU defense lost too much talent to the first round of the draft last season I trust Les Miles to keep the game competitive but with Brandon Harris starting his first game in jordanaire stadium I got to go Auburn all right all right LSU Auburn LSU oh there we go either way the tigers are going to win either way either way the tigers are going to win this ball game either way really a matter of opinion you know you ask someone from the volunteer Nation you know is not the best May I'm maybe I'm I mean I'm an Oakland Raider fan so I don't like Lane keing but I got to give this CR Raiders man ra all over the place okay last but not least let's rule these in Nebraska and Michigan does it matter or not I think you know it it matters uh as we know Michigan right now is is in turmoil the thing that they need that could get things turned around there is a win you know but I think with with the running back from uh Nebraska the way he's running the ball all over the place not only are they going to run they going to control the clock also I'm going with Nebraska you know kyata I was pick Nebraska if they were playing Michigan but unfortunately they're playing Michigan State Kelsey so you know if they were playing Michigan then I would take Nebraska I I would take Nebraska but they're going down to Michigan State Kelsey gave us the wrong game I'm still going Nebraska I'm still going Nebraska Michigan State lost a lot on defense so I'm still going to bras you know Amir Abdullah is in the Heisman race right now I think he's got 200 yards in three straight games four straight games he's playing phenomenal but Michigan State after losing a close game at Oregon earlier in the season than you Eugene they're coming back home uh or they've been back home they've been dominating teams their average V uh margin of victory has been 45 points they're at home East Lance is going to be rocking I think this team can make a real push to get to the 14 playoff I think they're that good because one thing they've been lacking in previous years as a quarterback and Conor cook is showing that he's really getting it going but but you know kinyas makes a great point with Amir Abdullah and how good he is and if they can control the clock the Michigan State's going to be in a lot of trouble but I think Conor cook going over the top is going to be the difference in the game I got stayed at home okay I had the opportunity to actually go to a Nike camp with Amir douan I've seen him play personally from being being that we're both from Birmingham Alabama I saw him play at home with high school sure is I like Amir douah he's an undersized guy that's why he didn't go to Nick saan or Jean chis at the time but I believe he'll have the ability to have a good game he's not gonna have a strong game because sparty's defense is a tough defense that's the closest thing to a not SEC defense in the nation that's true Conor cook like you said is playing better and better I think the Oregon law is going to put things in perspective for Michigan State with them being in home I'mma go Michigan State in a close game a close game and the one that matters Nebraska Michigan State michig Michigan State again yes Dad again Western Oregon without any well as you know uh playing here being being a former player here I'm trying not to be B but I just think with unaa coming off that big victory uh last week with the field goal they're the end we we now have the momentum going it's homecoming I'm going with una big with kinata you know I've got to rub shoulders with this guy I think he could still play for una right now that's how good I think this guy in a 90 yard touchdown run back in 94 they're celebrating the the 20 year national championship Bobby Wallace who left is now back the head coach as many as you know I think if the quarterback for Western Oregon was playing today I got a chance to watch him on film I think he's a great player they get the receiver Paul Rivas out there it would be a tough matchup without him in the game I think unaa is going to be too much today I've got unaa and I think they'll pull away late but Western Oregon I think they're come in and fight hard they didn't they didn't make this travel across country for no reason so I think they're come in and fight hard but una number five team in the country I think going to be too physical too athletic and I think they'll get the they'll get the victory three players to watch out for in today's performance Lamonte Thompson Shaquille Smith Philbert Marshall I think offensively with luk Wingo not playing I think coach gross and Coach Wallace is going to rely heavily on the rushing attack defensively trench dogs as they call themselves the front four of the uh una lines I think they're going to be physical at the point of attack I think they're going to be physical at the line of scrimmage I think Shaquille Smith is going to rehabit on that that line of scrimmage and I believe Philo Marshall who is probably the best young defensive back in the conference is going to have a he's going to have a task but I believe he's going to have a great matchup with Reas oh yeah Paul Ras Paul Reas with that being said I don't believe it's going to be a blowout but I believe this is going to be a very good homecoming for the Lions I got Lions all right uhoh you all right we want to thank Keenan and for join anytime thank y'all yes yes yes yes enjoyed it when you wake up and want to know what's going on good day human night we tell you what's inore we want you to know about this college life and that's the only thing the only thing that's right good day good day you you good day good day you name you and name for
