little bit tight inside to right-handed hitters we had a little bit of a b Breeze blowing out to left Center last night and it's pretty similar here tonight not too brisk but a similar pattern that we saw help that Marsh Homer against Charlie [Music] [Applause] Morton it was Marsh with a three-run homer and then castiano is the two-run Homer that helped Philly come from behind to get the victory obviously not the ideal way to start this series but you still have three more opportunities that's right and we got really good arms on the mound as the Braves always do with the depth of their rotation and the Phillies yes they came back late but their offense has not necessarily been in a great spot and this is a team that can be had 93 mph fast ball gets Whit marfield to start it out there's a racetrack defense for Rob Thompson and the Philadelphia Phillies it'll be Ro hwon Center Martian left tonight different from last night and Sosa you know notice at third base so if you were tuned in last night their normal third baseman Alec B he had an issue with some discomfort in his left hand the x-rays were negative that's a good news for bone but they're being cautious and they are sitting him tonight and there is Rob Thompson trying to guide his team to their first inl title since 2011 but certainly the Braves hoping to have something to say about that here over the next month cir takes a strike on the inside corner and Philly going with those City connect jerseys here on a Friday night as they usually do hello for his catcher gear as opposed to maybe whatever blue that is the top half of the jerseys you will not have a problem finding him tonight on the field he looks like a savannah banana back there oh called strike so there gives a long look at Paul Clemens back there but there are two away well this is the twoam fast ball and it comes back and just barely catches the corner I mentioned that will we have seen from Paul Clemens as he has a tendency and has this year to be tight in that spot right there but so far not tonight there was a couple of pitches inside he called fan favorite Marcelo Zuna now riding that 22 game on Bas streak [Music] they check down but no one and one for Suarez CJ mentioned it but he had a lower back issue was on the I for about a month came back that start against Kansas City he threw 72 pitches Rob Thompson says expecting him around maybe 90 tonight but they're going to see how he feels so that's something to keep an eye on as the ball game continues and we've seen that a couple times recently for Ozuna foul balls catching him on the lower half and especially on a pitch like this when you have a left-hander that throws that cutter in that is susceptible to having those kind of foul balls that bounce off you same thing that would you get from May maybe a slider right see how far in that ball is if you offer at it that sometimes can be the result [Music] strikes out the side does Ranger Suarez in the first and he starts off with a fast ball to Kyle schwarber so those two starts for Lopez against the Phillies both in Atlanta July 7th when he went six and gave up no runs and then just 10 days ago on August 20th five innings one run in the season High 10 strikeouts but now he has to pitch in front of the Philly F another foul ball by schwarber one and two and right from jump here some variety from Ronaldo Lopez forcing fast ball slider curveball the days of establishing your fast ball and trying to save the secondary stuff for later in the game are long gone and he takes care of him with that curveball so we've had four batters in this game and four strikeouts and make it now 0 for 10 for Kyle schwarber in his career against Ronaldo Lopez with seven strikeouts even you and I can figure out that is 70% of the time he strikes in out every time and a great start for Lopez here in the bottom of the first both of these starters similar both had their time as a reliever and both of them Allstars here in 2024 Y and really emerging we started to see it the last couple of Seasons with Ranger Suarez obviously we saw unfortunately what he did in the postseason last year and this year they're letting him go a little bit more right in the postseason it was a couple of times around the order and that was it but he's gotten a little bit of a longer leash now here the regular season for the [Music] Phillies touch off the corner and both of these guys Lopez and Suarez top four in the National League as far as ER is concerned with Lopez leading the group if you add in that it's the minimum of 110 Innings pitched High bouncer Ella takes it little bit of a slow throw boy just did get him over there at first base we'll see whether or not they want to challenge this this was really really close now Orel there's nothing he can do in the sense that you have the high hop but you see that extra tap right there that was the only thing that was a little bit concerning they're not going to challenge it but that was the kind of lacking some of that sense of urgency in Remembering how fast Trey Turner is luckily it does not cost the Braves and we'll keep an eye on Gio as the left groin that had just been bothering him a little bit the last two games turning on this there's the first hit of the night it comes from Bryce Harper he's going to have a two out standup [Applause] double oh first pitch slider here from Ronaldo Lopez and you can see a kind of inner third look like he's trying to get that first strike but Bryce Harper not afraid to offer at that first pitch slider as he hits it into the right field [Applause] corner and now Nick castanos who hit what turned out to be the game-winning Homer yesterday a two-run shot to center off of Grant Hol [Music] what do you make of his accessories there guys are not afraid we know that so the white sticks out a ton obviously against the aqua blue whatever that is and you got the different blue the gloves yeah aqua blue marlin blue so bernaldo Lopez can make him feel blue couple of walks last night in the first inning and now Lopez trying to do the same here in game two of the series one1 that's right in there one and two and you can see that 97 with some jump on and some giddy up here so far early in this game as St you're thinking he's got to be probably hunting a strike there and just couldn't pull the [Music] trigger late on that fast fall he got got it up to 98 that time and the place that you can go with the fast ball here for Ronaldo Lopez against the guy like do is going to be more down and Away down middle he can get the pitches middle down and in like most lefties up and in on a bad spot either with the heater Lopez kicks deals reaches for it slaps the curveball back to the mound wide throw but a good job by Matt olon to re picture he has 10 home runs 28 RBI through last 30 games and I talked with Kevin CER today who said through that last 30 game stretch he feels like Matt Olsson has done better with looseness that's been his Focus he said it's easy to get tense in those situations but with that looseness he's had more adjustability to hit against off speed pitches we saw one of his home runs come against a change up last night Matt olon also said his timing overall feeling better at the plate guys and that's why he's getting to those fast balls right trying to relieve some of the tension as Kevin CER was explaining to Hannah today and then giving him that ability to be on time and that is why we have seen easily the best month of the Season here from Matt olssen in August that first Homer he hit yesterday 450 ft over the batter's eye in center and then he hit one 427 out to Right Center [Music] and you said it those nine extra base hits the most he's had in his career in a six-game span in any six-game Span in his career and we know of course how hot he was last year and the amazing run that he was on with the home runs and everything else that he did but these six in particular yeah they have been the best at least by the extra base hit measurement he had a couple of six game spans where the batting average was higher he had a couple more hits never more than the 12 RB that he's had over his last six as well soarez being careful with him understandably 3-1 pitch that one's right in there three and two I think Matt feels like he missed one now Majestic and I haven't seen all of them but that one that we saw last night it's got to be up there is one of his favorites here but Suarez gets him he slows things up with a change up and Suarez has face four batters and struck all of them out and perhaps taking a page out of the book of what we saw from Christopher Sanchez yesterday and that was the left on left change up probably not what Matt Olen is anticipating in that spot in a full count and kind of got away with it it wasn't a great pitch location wise Matt was just way out front Ramone laurano batting fifth tonight so Ron laurano has never faced Ranger Suarez I think to me this is a pretty interesting bat we have seen rone go to the opposite field and think about change UPS the two seam fastball a couple of the pitches that he throws the most to righties if he continues that approach and you can see the center fielder Roa shaded that way might see some fun things tonight from Ramone laurano yeah Roos about 10 steps or so over toward that right center [Music] Gap 3 0 Sinker is in there three and one mention Ranger Suarez making the allstar game what was interesting is he opted out of the game and that's ultimately what provided the spot for Max freed to go pitch in the midsummer classic and then Suarez was dealing with that back injury that kept him out for about a [Applause] [Music] month and the All-Star deals the payoff pitch and we will do it again based on the couple of swings that we've seen against the fast B where Braves have come up empty is definitely playing higher than what the radar gun is telling you right we're seeing 92 93 some 91s that guys are laate on that's cuz he has such a deep repertoire you got to worry about the off speed stuff two seamer is in there no argument from laurano what a start so far for Suarez well deception here with this two seamer as it comes back and catches the inner third of the plate [Music] he has one 10 strikeout game this year back on May 21st against Texas and he already has five through five batters here as he faces Harris now no strike out there couple of bounces to stop but another one two three in [Applause] it Ronaldo Lopez he has been an impact player all season long but very interesting to see how he has gotten his strikeouts it is all about the slider and the foren fastb he'll mix in that curveball which has been a very good pitch change up as well but single digits there on the strikeouts he is finishing hitters with the slider and the foreen fast ball the Sho a double in a walk in the first inning But ultimately Lopez gets out of it now he faces 678 starting with a catcher R Muto specific to the fast ball for Lopez what have you found interesting about that big part of it has been his ability to hold his velocity right he comes out of the bullpen after being a reliever for a few years of course he had been a starter in the past and everybody wondered about stamina and how would things play and getting deeper into games but the thing that has jumped out with me on the fast ball in particular is that if you take a look at it inning by inning it does not come down at all if anything you see a couple of ticks higher on the average four seam velocity fast as you get into the fifth sixth and seventh Innings League average it always comes down but not for Ronaldo Lopez he has been able to carry that velocity deep in games that is a was a big question mark for me coming in as you can see the average in the first inning at an even 95 miles an hour that's actually the slowest of any inning and it only gets better as he gets deeper so really impressive stuff when you talk about stamina and strength with the heater for Ronaldo Lopez this season Matt Olsen kind of on an island over there that's a tough in between hop making that play [Music] [Applause] yeah that jumped up on Matt olon really good adjustment Whit marfield was playing up toward the Middle with real Muto at the plate now here's Brandon Marsh who hit that three-run Homer to left Center last night and keeping that fastball velocity too CJ after throwing 116 Innings now this season and not throwing over 66 any of the Past Four Seasons I would have figured at some point there would have been more fatigue in that arm but he has managed everything extremely well the last start that he had before he went I take that back the first start when he came back from the ilil his average four seam fastball velocity for that game was 96.4 the highest of any game that he has had this year and he was doing that in August left Center awkward dive and laurano can't get it and Marsh is at first base with one out now we saw some instant frustration here here from rone laano he had a beat on this ball he decides to slide and it kind of handcuffs him a little bit and gets away from him makes a strong throw to make sure he keeps it as a single but he had been playing really well and he'll tell you this is a play that he expects to [Applause] make it will go as a hit for Brandon Marsh and now here's Sosa not an excuse for Morano but CJ and I have discussed it remember until a couple of weeks ago he had never played left field in his career now certainly he's played a lot of Outfield but it was all either Center or right before the Braves moved him out there and you get some different movement I know it's sometimes hard for fans to digest that when you watch guys out there but it is a significant difference you coming off a left-handed bat the ball's going to be spinning differently I've asked enough outfielders about it they'll tell you that center field is actually the easiest one to play when you talk about the reads off the bat of course Ron orano played center field for a long time in his career and then it was over to right after that so it is a is a fair thing to bring up I think with him it's not an easy adjustment now the flip side of that coin is he'll tell you he's got to make that play he has high expectations that he's put on himself and now that we see him every day he has been producing it's been a lot of fun to [Applause] watch Marsh goes for second base he steals it look like sha Murphy maybe be talking about some potential interference here let's see if he get any no and it was a pretty good throw but for Ronaldo Lopez there have been some struggles it's 18 for 19 now in stolen bases against him he come in tied for 13th with the 17 stolen bases against him one two to Sosa Sosa lifts it out to deep left Center lorano at the wall he's got it with a hand against the wall Marsh does advance 90 ft two [Applause] outs that wind is definitely blowing but probably not as much as yesterday and Ramone laano is going to tell you how much because he started pulling up on the grass and realizing this thing was going to continue to get pushed by the wind does a nice job got turned around a little bit good adjustment though to get underneath it and get the baseball and it's also not blowing straight out to left it's a little across that's why last night and tonight you saw laurano go more towards left Center and then turn around and go a couple steps the other direction so now the bottom of the order and roas first pitch in the air Matt Olsen has his eyes on it he will take it back to the top of the order here's Whit [Music] [Applause] [Music] marfield I was doing a game in Tampa obviously not a lot of fans at most of those games for the race at the trop fan did exactly that security came over and I think they realized like not a good look for us to be kicking fans out of the game so they just moved him to another section so it looked like he' gotten in trouble he actually looked like he also got an upgrade in his seats cuz he was in the Outfield he ended up being down he first Baseline but it was all for show sir we're going to give you a club seat if that's okay there's also Fe free food and drinks over there onew to wit pretty routine here for Trey [Applause] Turner but you were talking about Ranger Suarez earlier if you look at the scouting reports for him it says keeps the ball on the ground and a good job of keeping the ball in the park and the Braves have kind of changed that Scouting Report here [Applause] cair fouls this into the seats a change up one and two you saw those dark clouds by the way there are a couple of spotty showers on the radar but not really expecting anything of significance tonight here in Philadelphia I don't know my clouds but that's a cool look right it's like down presented by Kaiser Permanente and the Braves enjoying a two to nothing lead thanks to back-to- back homers by Aria and Murphy schwarber and the top of the order here against Ronaldo [Applause] Lopez a strike out back in the first inning for Kyle schwarber do you still like him at the top of the order for Philadelphia I do I think based on the options that they have it's worked out for them obviously he had gone through some struggles coming into this one coming into the series and it is a different look for sure very unique in what he does but guy will take his walks and it's an instant threat right right away with the big time power that he has I mean you can make an argument as it make more sense to have a guy like Trey Turner but I think because of Bryce Harper being another Lefty you want to separate those guys and you don't want shorer any lower than that he hits this High into the Friday night sky giorella finds it for the first [Applause] [Music] down well schwarber also a lot of last year they had him out in left field things weren't going well now exclusively a DH focusing on the hitting Rob Thompson says that's been much more successful yeah especially when you think about how they can set up their Outfield right it's Ros and Marsh tonight we saw hay in Marsh yesterday both of them really good Defenders all three of those guys you have a pretty light defender in castios he ranks as one of the worst defenders in the game in right field so the idea of having shurn left and castios in right is a center fielders nightmare because he's got a lot of work to do and then you start to really see the lack of Defense show up meanwhile here's the captain of the infield Trey Turner batting average 302 third in the National League behind Marcelo Zuna and then Louis arise is second in between them lines this foul deep down on the right field [Music] line onew from Lopez 98 that time so he tried to gas him up but Turner stays alive [Music] goes off speed curveball and it's foul all right so he's a little behind the fast ball he's ahead of the curve ball wonder what Lopez was thinking here well you like it because you got them in both directions so it does give you some options now you're thinking about maybe you know have I change that bat speed and kind of get a good fast ball by him or that or make him Chase nasty slider second strike out for Lopez tonight that is tight and that is big and you can see the hips of Trey Turner going into the brav Dugout as he's trying to reach that pitch right it's one thing when you're out there and you kind of Chase it but I me he was really badly [Applause] fooled Bryce Harper has one of Philly's two hits so far he had the double back in the first inning trying to get another double here and he's going to do it well maybe not throw in there yeah it's late he does have a double awkward slide but hyper is two for two and he's only seing two pitches and after he hits a double on a first pitch slider he can almost definitely sit heater I don't mind you going back to the slider here because he gets it started early it's a big time fast ball it's 99 milph from Ronaldo Lopez but Bryce Harbor just looking for something in the zone very likely anticipating that fast ball and oh maybe early work tomorrow to practice is [Applause] sliding and now [Music] castios castiano sees a ton of breaking balls but it was the fast ball he hit out last night to center field and he sees those because he is a guy that is going to and you really want to be able to take advantage of [Music] that fast ball there to right field but cair has it PS and the batting average come with it the home runs once again as well for Marcelo [Music] Zuna and he gets this out to left field Marsh sprinting over there diving for it but he can't get it and Barcelo Zuna gets the ball in in the air there for a double pull it in the air and good things can happen it's actually one of the last things that sometimes will come for good hitters especially now in this day and age in the way that they teach the game a lot of guys trying to use the entire field and when you can do this even on a little first pitch change up that looked like a cut back you're going to have yourself a lot of success 27 double of the season to go along with his 37 home runs [Music] and Matt olssen line drive base hit Marcel will pause it third but the Braves have them at the corners nobody out how about the aggressiveness here for the Atlanta Braves in this inning and for Matt Olson all smiles after he gets a first pitch cutter and that one not a bad pitch it's outter third but he goes out and he hooks it for this line drive Braves continuing to hit Ranger Suarez well here in the regular season in 2024 now 13 innings for Suarez against the Braves he's given up 10 runs and right now the Braves threatening for more what a difference after Ranger Suarez came out and struck out the first five hitters a little bit concerning how locked in he looked and they have really disrupted things since yeah but everything changed after that Orlando RC Homer then Shawn Murphy followed with one himself and now the Braves in business in the fourth 2-1 to Ramone laurano fouled back two and two Texas Pete who's been hot well Ramone laurano versus left-handers since becoming a brave he has been terrific I mean look what he has done here against the lefties the damage at 429 how about this month in particular a 500 average against Lefty's best in the game this is going to score Marcelo Zuna but they do get laurano at first but that's a very productive out you score one you also move Matt olssen up to second base after striking out in his first half bat and looking at a fast ball in it was that two se fastet he fights this one off to make sure he at least gets it in play and probably better off right that he did not hit this base baseball very hard always concerned about the double play and so you'll take the soft contact in this situation for exactly the result you were talking about was that Usain Bolt coming down that Third Base Line there bolt Usain Bolt oh yeah was that Marcelo Zuna he turned the wheels on there the Big Bear he may have felt like it not sure he looked like it making it three to nothing no balls two strikes here to [Music] Harris Ranger Suarez just turned 29 on Monday he was born two months before the Braves won the World Series back in the 1995 year and he's going to step off the rubber here [Music] Lefty is a native of Venezuela Sinker outside one and two [Music] Harris lines it foul it's been a tough matchup for Michael Harris one for 19 against Suarez when these two have squared off he's put the ball in play a good amount of times only four strikeouts in there but it's a lot of the soft stuff and again you're seeing a lefty who's not afraid to throw his change up once in a while two lefties which is just a tough pitch to game plan against as a hitter but Harris gets his second hit against Suarez there single the other way they're going to hold Matt Olen little bit a wild throw but Suarez saves it and the Braves have him at the corners that's a good approach for Michael and something we talked about with our Ford Keys here with a guy like Ranger Suarez and trying to take him the other way may he gives you something in the middle absolutely Turn and Burn on it but that's a good pitch away and he stays on it long enough to get himself That Base here [Music] well we already saw it once this inning that number there on the B Bar as far as the 53% success rate in scoring a runner from third and less than two outs let's see if Orlando can add to that he started the scoring in both games Orlando the RBI double in the second yesterday to put Atlanta up one to nothing the solo Homer here today in the third [Music] and talking about heating up and the Braves offense this has been a theme but last 32 he's equal the same number of homers from the first 98 games yeah good to see and impressive when he does it against the Lefty you mentioned no home runs against lefties coming into this one struggling over all the numbers against the lefties and probably not that surprising because again he's so good middle in lefties are going to pitch him away more often than not it's going to be the change up it's going to be that two seam fastball they'll show him in sometimes to get him off the play but he was batting under 200 against the lefties coming into this one but you give him something like he got last time which was that little cutter middle he can absolutely do damage out in front of the CERN ball [Applause]
