MAJOR Falcons Week 1 News: Russell Wilson OUT With An Injury? Justin Fields Starting For Steelers?

[Music] I've got some bad news for the Pittsburgh Steelers in fact today's video was scripted and built and put together before even the real bad bad news came out which is that Mike tomin told reporters Russell Wilson reported some calf tightness like I'm not rooting for injuries but that's some tough news for the Pittsburgh Steelers to get dealt right before week one not that Justin Fields can't outperform Russell Wilson but going into your final practice of the week Friday not knowing who's starting at quarterback for you it's going to make life very difficult for Arthur Smith to game plan and put together a good package without knowing who his starting quarterback is so this is definitely something to monitor we'll keep you guys posted so quick plug here subscribe but Justin Fields if he ends up starting I mean we are ready for this we talked about this guy being a falcon for a couple months this off season and I'm a much bigger Fields believer than your average Joe is I'm not out on Justin Fields I think Justin Fields could end up being better than Russell Wilson like this could be one of those cases where it might even be a blessing in disguise because I'm not very high on Russell Wilson to begin with this year but I'm not high on any quarterback getting three days notice that they're starting NFL Week 1 and going out there and delivering so whether it's fields or Russell Wilson out there I don't think think it's going to be easygoing against this Falcon secondary with Justin Simmons being added to it I've got bad news for Russ or Fields they have to deal with 31 and that's not going to be a pleasant experience but let's continue with the belief that Russell Wilson is starting again we are filming this Thursday afternoon we just got the Russell Wilson news of his uh limited ability and practice but for now let's continue forward with Russell Wilson does start week one against the Falcons okay if that's the case Justin Simmons goes up against a very familiar face a quarterback that he practiced every single day for two straight years while they overlap together in Denver I think Simmons should will and very much so dominate Russell Wilson in this game like you've got a safety that every single day went out to practice and went up against number three learned the habits learn the Tendencies learn the Tells learned everything there is to know about that quarterback because they saw it every single day in practice and now they get to tee off against that same quarterback in NFL week one with a brand new team yeah tell me there's not going to be some extra motivation for Justin Simmons to go out there and ball out against his former quarterback that I don't want to say was the sole reason that things didn't go well in Denver and that expectations were not met but a major reason as to why like I wonder if and this is just me speculating is it all love between Justin Simmons and Russell Wilson I'm sure publicly they'll say that but if I'm Justin Simmons like he has been very outspoken about wanting to go to a playoff contending team this off season he was a captain a pro bowl an all proo player for the Broncos but never made it to the playoffs they go out and get Russell Wilson and two years with number three they don't get any closer to making the playoffs but Russell Wilson got this huge contract he's got more bathrooms and touchdowns his first year and despite that they still don't make the playoffs so for Justin Simmons he might look at Russell Wilson as you know what if I need any extra motivation to get ready for week one that's the former quarterback for the team that I played on that failed to meet expectations despite me leading the league in interceptions when I miss five games that season but our offense couldn't put up squat how frustrating would that be as a defensive player playing the best season of your career and if the offense just scored 14 points we'd be in the playoffs but that man across the line of scrimmage couldn't get that done wasted one of the best years of my career that could be motivation for Justin Simmons to go you know I of course want to play my best every single Sunday but I'm going to really bring it this Sunday so will Simmons pickoff Russell Wilson give me a y for yes or an N for no we can change it to Justin Fields if he ends up being the starter but let me know weaknesses he does not make great decisions when reading and looking over the defense pre- snap he tends to premeditate where he wants to go with the football and a lot of that comes down to studying film and picking up Tendencies of DBS Justin Simmons is one of the brightest Minds in the game so you've got a quarterback on the other side that doesn't make the greatest amount of decisions with the moment here it is the best safety duo in the National Football League and I don't think it's even close like just look at the numbers these guys put up last year nine combined interceptions five combined Force fumbles 14 total takeaways between these two players alone you got 14 take takeaways last year from two guys on your team imagine what the other nine can do so we've shared these uh well some of these stats before we got some new ones though so I did the math here and let's look at the 20208 to 2023 interception leaders and you'll see that the Falcons have tied for first Justin Simmons and then number six Jesse Bates on the same team but we can take a little bit of a closer look how about the last two seasons Atlanta they've got tied for first with both Bates and Simmons the two leaders in takeaways along with Don Bland the last two years and two of them are on the same team I try to figure out if that's ever happened in a two-year stretch it actually turned into a very very long process that I ultimately have decided the juice was not worth the squeeze so I'll just say right now that's the first time in NFL history in a two-year stretch two guys tied for first and takeaways play on the same team now how about since Jesse Bates entered the league in 2018 total takeaways inter receptions and force fumbles Justin Simmons second with 31 Jesse Bates tied for six with 26 so a larger sample size if you don't want to just go off the last two years but you want to go all the way back since Jessie Bates was his Wee Little rookie for the Cincinnati Bengals and Justin Simmons was in year 16 year three of his NFL career you got second and tied for six both in the top 10 of takeaways you got two Elite playmaking like we SE the playmaking abilities they have with all the interceptions and the pass breakups and the force fumbles they produce Ball Hawk safeties but on top of that they've got a run defense that they can trust so you know what that allows them to do that allows them to just sit back and watch the quarterback they don't have to have this pressure of doing more than what they're asked to do right I think it's applies to a lot of jobs where you've got your responsibilities but maybe you don't trust your coworker and calling out producer re does a great job to get their jobs done so you start to like overcompensate and do more than what you're asked and then ultimately you get burned out no with Simmons and Bates they've got one job track the quarterback and get the football they do not have to worry about stopping the Run whatsoever they've got Grady Jarrett David onada to carry to worry about that they've got great linebackers and Troy Anderson and Kaden Ellis and Nate lamit off the freaking bench to worry about stopping the Run they've got one job get the football and you know what there's no one better at it the last two years than these two players and they're your Atlanta Falcon starting safeties that is why this is the best safety tandem in the NFL not just because of what they're able to do but because of what they have in front of them to stop the run and free them up to solely be pass coverage ball Hawking safeties Jesse Bates also had some really kind things to say about about his newest teammate Justin Simmons saying just having a guy who's been there had success for a very long time it puts you at a peace of mind to be able to go out and play faster remember what I was just talking about about these safeties having the ability to just play the ball and not worry about the run too much can you imagine what Jessie Bates is going to be able to accomplish this year if he doesn't have to worry about what the other safety is doing like if he did that all of last year and still at six interceptions and was it two three fource fumbles and now he doesn't have to worry about his counterpart but he's got trust in Jessie bat so he's not trying to play two positions at once we we could possibly see an even better version of what was a top three safety in football last year like I am so excited for what this safety Duo can do because every single day that comes by it feels like they're just going to get better and better and better so who do you think will have more picks in 20 24 Jesse Bates or Justin Simmons or door number three all the above they just finished tied with
