Lee Carley is in line to take over as interim senior England manager um for the next month's Nations league matches against Republic of Ireland and Finland and that really allows the fa to continue what they're doing at the moment which is a pretty exhaustive process uh to find a long-term successor to G Southgate um now Southgate resigned three weeks and one day ago okay um the next England manager has to name a squad for those Nations League games in 3 weeks and one day time so we're slap bang in the middle here right now and that isn't an awful lot of time the the fa don't want to rush this process absolutely so my understanding is that the fa are minded to give carsley who's currently the England under 21's manager of course the senior role on a shortterm basis that they Contin continue that period of due diligence which um that they're determined to take their time over no comment at all from from the fa uh they've made it clear they won't make any comment on this until the process is completed and they've appointed a new boss but let's just remind you of what the chief executive Mark bullingham said last month he said are UAA Nations League campaign starts since September and we have an interim solution in place if it is needed already in place that was pretty clear indication that Lee Carley was in line to step up on an interim basis if needs be um and they' hadd already spoken to him about it I understand now look I've been told that the the fa have yet to speak formally to any of the candidates on their short list or many of the candidates on their short list which I think is another indication of just how deliberate the fa are being here and how they're going to take their time over this one yeah does it mean maybe carsley could be in position for the full-time job who are the others and what if he does really well in interim and this goes on that little bit longer whilst they're interviewing others does that change his position it does and and look I think you have to say you have to remind people this is the process that gett Southgate went through when he was given the senior men's England job he was the England under 21 manager was given the job on an interim basis for four games after Sam allise was sacked and then did well in those four games the fa liked him he liked it and he was given a four-year contract as a result the same thing could happen with Lee carsley I think we have to point out it's not absolutely clear whether carsley wants the job full-time right now um but he if he is placed in that interim role it's a perfect audition for him and for the fa isn't it to see how he gets on the short list though is still what we talked about on the day after Gareth southgate's resignation Eddie how gram Potter richo poo Kieran McKenna they're still on the list alongside Lee Cosley as a potential full-time England manager um and whilst the next England manager doesn't have to be English that's been made very clear to us it is thought that bullingham would prefer a homegrown option now is Lee carsley homegrown he was born in Birmingham but he represented the republ Republic of Ireland 40 times as a player he's been an fa employee for four years as well he's taking charge of the under 20s and the under 21s now so he's in the system he knows the setup he knows the value of St George's Park so I think overall we shouldn't be surprised by this it's not huge breaking news I don't think credit to the telegraph we should say who who got this story first this morning um but it it's kind of what we expected we knew the fa would take their time we knew they would carry out an exhaustive process they're going to do thorough due diligence on every single candidate before they make a decision and if they give Lee carsley the job on interim basis however long that interim period it is it buys them a bit of time doesn't it to spend more time focusing on who might get the job longterm but yeah it could be a really big opportunity for Lee Carle you have to say [Music]
