Chestnut vs Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef | Nothing But Netflix

hey everybody what's going on Rob Cino back here nothing but Netflix this week here to talk about the big Netflix live event that everybody's been talking about it's unfinished beef not that other beef on Netflix unfinished beef kobashi versus Joey Chestnut the battle of the Titans and here to talk about it here with me a true hot dog it's Chappelle Chappelle how are you shout out all my dogs at the crib all the hot dogs at CRI hot dogs at the crib yes yes I'm good Rob I'm very happy to be here yeah I thought this was so interesting and a Netflix live event there's been more and more of these Netflix Live Events it seems like something uh that Netflix is pushing more and more into Live Events specifically live sports and we have a few of these uh coming up like uh the uh Big Mike Tyson uh Logan Paul's brother fight coming up is it Jake Paul Jak Paul which of the Paul boys is it there's gonna be NFL games on Netflix coming up uh there was the Tom Brady roast a couple of weeks ago there uh also is Monday Night Raw coming to Netflix so more and more uh Netflix is pushing into the live event space and we're here to talk about a big one here today Joey Chestnut versus Kobe ASI Chappelle how are you I'm so good but I I can't lie to you I had never really delved into the world of uh you know comp eating competitive eating yeah this has never been anything that I that ever got my attention I knew people did this I wasn't sure why I didn't know that there was skills involved I just knew that people did it and now that I've actually seen it I think I have a new appreciation for this thing that I really thought was a little less serious than they tried to make it here uh this this sport is very interesting to call it a sport um you know I'm using the word generously but it's it's sport-like well I I think that this is more of a sport than some of the other things that get called sports like poker or Dancing Yeah like because like and with all the respect the video games like this is like you are pushing your body to like lengths here to be able to try to do what people like Joey chestna do former amazing racer Joey Chestnut I might add I didn't know that I wasn't aware that Joey Chestnut was on Amazing Race what was he like on it did you watch honestly I have very little recollection of Joey Chestnut on the amazing I interviewed him and he was on The Amazing Race uh season 30 okay I feel like that's a relatively recent season season for Amazing Race standards like what what season are we up to now on Amazing Race um we just finished Amazing Race 36 I believe was the most recent season of Amazing Race but they dropped them like uh Co did like did a number on The Amazing Race and then um that they've been doing only one year recently so okay yeah so this wasn't too long ago so Joey Chesnut has never never really lost and left I guess the the public eye in the way that kobashi his competitor has yeah he was a better competitive eater than he was an amazing race there for sure I mean I don't want to bury the lead but I mean we have a new world record uh you know held by Joey Chestnut at the end of the day absolutely so uh a historic we saw multiple World Records fall here today on Netflix I thought this was very compelling I I really thought they did a great job with this that they you know had this matchup between kobashi and Joey Chestnut which I now feel like I know everything about after watching this and you know the the entire hot dog eating contest last 10 minutes but they did a good job turning this into an hour no no no there there was Fan Fair there was celebration there was band it was it was great it was great I think that because I went in thinking okay well how long is this going to last you know like am I watching something that's gonna be over fairly quickly because like you said a 10-minute race is a 10-minute race but we opened the show with like like I said the crowd is going wild thousands yeah and they're in Vegas at the luxer so it's very fancy looking unlike the luxer but you know they do a really good job of like setting up that the stakes could not be higher it felt like a prize fight between two like uh like top-of-the-line boxers well just to set the background up for this so Joey Chestnut famously was uh the many time Nathan's hot dog eating champion and I don't know how aware you were about this but Joey Chestnut then signed a deal with a sponsorship deal with impossible foods which makes vegan hot dogs meatless hot dogs and then because he signed this endorsement with the meatless hot dogs Nathan said you're out Joey Chestnut that's incredible because you would think that it doesn't violate the spirit of the hot dog eating contest if he's eating impossible meat but Nathan's the sponsor for this entire competition so you can't go and go vegan uh in a hot dog eating conent like in this industry no I think Nathan did exactly what Nathan should have done you have to gatekeep at some point no I I think that this was so stupid uh that you have biggest star in in the sport of competitive eating and I don't know if like maybe Joey Chestnut was like planning on showing up to the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest wearing like impossible food me he it's his sponsor he got to wear I don't know if it's like NASCAR you wear the you wear the brand that you're being sponsored by but like I feel like that the if if anything like I I mean I could not be less interested in eating a hot dog after watching this so I don't know what kind of advertising this like entire hot dog eating contest actually is doing for Nathan other than keeping the Nathan's word out there but to lose the biggest star over there seemed very Petty and silly and the people over at Netflix said okay all right Joey jna you're out on the fourth of July eating hot dog eating hotas let's make a late well let's program Labor Day we're making the first ever Labor Day hot dog eating contest and so they got Joey Chestnut and they got kobashi who had been sort of out of the scene and I didn't know this and I don't know how much they played it up for this event Chappelle apparently there was bad blood between kobashi and Joey Chestnut yes you know this caught my attention uh so apparently this is how I understand it kobashi uh was this new Phenom right he kind of revolutionized the sport of competitive competitive eating you know people was eating but they weren't eating like Kobe Kobe was eating right you know like sometimes you to eat a hot dog you say Kobe you know like that was a whole thing he created that and so because of that uh he was like he was like putting them on the map you know he's the reason why you know everybody was flocking oh let's see what people were shoving down their throats this week well then you have Joey Chesnut who's like the new like he's like the new hotness right he's the upand comer uh but he's taking kobashi's spot he's kind of VI jockeying for position kobashi gets an injury he gets jaw thritis or something to that uh effect and he never recovers from his arthritis to come back at 100% he's down he's like he's not the kobashi that we used to know and so now Joey Chestnut has stepped into the Limelight as the new guy to beat and kobashi is here to take back his crown or at least that was his goal in today's uh um broadcast can you make a comparison between the kobei and Joey Chestnut rivalry in another field like I was because Kobe ASI was the person who sort of like changed the game first like he put the competitive eating on the map and then Here Comes This upstart Joey Chestnut who comes in and then not only just completely is dominant kind of drives kobashi out of the sport it's almost like as if like you know you have like of course like Jordan and LeBron but it's not like that like LeBron came came along and then you know uh you know edged out Jordan for a title and then Jordan retired and went to go play baseball like it it's it's not like that right like there was no like Changing of the Guard there was like a forceful you know overtaking like it wasn't like oh yeah you can never be the new Michael because you know you got to beat Michael this is very much that this is you have to usurp the guy at the top and once you do that then you have to maintain at the top as the person who is now wearing the crown you know very Game of Thrones you know it's like hey we have a person who's been here he been running the realm everything's been cool but this new guy's in town and he has a claim as will and he's going to fight for his claim and if he beats you he can't let you come back and so he's got to like you know twist the knife a little bit and so this uh is essentially kobashi's Swan Song and his uh goodbye from the sport because he said to this uh broadcast was going to be it La his last competitive eating competition so in a way Joey Chestnut is retiring him I think it's more WWE than uh real you know like uh this was like a loser leaves town match yeah something like that right like you got the new uh the new hotness like uh know coming up the ranks but you got to take out the tribal Chief you know yes but at no point did Joey Chestnut say he was going to retire I don't know like it did not seem like uh that this was necessarily going to be um a close fight like it seems like that maybe like kobashi might have been in Joey chestnut's head a little bit or maybe he might have had his number uh but like they did picks before and like people some people were like picking kobashi and I I didn't really see it like they were making it seem like that this could have gone either way and Joey Chestnut has been dominating this entire industry of competitive eating for 20 years kobashi has been kind of Off the Grid I was surprised that they were people felt like they was going to be close I I'm I'm I'm not gonna lie to you I'm a Kobe guy you know so I I really thought this was GNA be my guy's Return to Grace you know he bounc are you in in serious uh you are a kobashi guy I mean not after this but but going no no but going into this I was listening to you know the Back stories the story of Joey chesna as the new the new guy who's in charge but also the story of kobashi our fallen angel the guy who made who brought us to this place where you are today he's falling off he's he's coming back from injury it was a tale of the underdog a Return to Grace you know like uh like you could see this in like a football movie right would have been a great story if kobashi would have come back from you know not competing in 15 years to give and I guess he did give Joey Chestnut like a run for his money Joey Chestnut at the end uh spoiler alert uh that Joey Chestnut wins he eats 83 hot dogs to how many for kobashi I I think it was uh 53 50 50 something I think it was I think it was more than that I don't think he beat him by 30 I think decent I mean Joey ches said he he he drives me he pushes me yeah you know he's like I he's formidable in a way but I'm just that guy now you know like i' I've gotten to the point where I I'm him um you know this is this is the Simone bies of competitive eating yeah you know they call him awesome jawsome you know that he's just he's just that guy and I think that it was a good return for kobashi as far as like he had his has uh like friends and family I think they said in the crowd people were very invested they had their team Kobe shirts on and it was a good way of like a paying homage to a legend the guy who really like you said revolutionized this sport but also saying goodbye to that Legend because he's now outmatched there's a new hotness in town his name is Joey Chestnut no kobashi he's new to kobashi yeah this would be like yeah um if Drew bledo came back to challenge like Tom Brady at some point he's like I already knocked you out I already took your job yeah what like why are you back and what do you think you're going yeah what exactly do you think you can do after this after this long layover yeah Drew bledo was very good on the Tom Brady roast by the way he he did get him back he got his revenge on that one for sure yeah keeping it on the Netflix family um but Joey Chestnut is the goat it's it's un undoubtable unquestioned yeah yeah 83 to 67 I think is what the answer is so yeah this is our Undisputed champion and the thing is that you know for a while Joey chesnet was saying that kobashi's dodging me he's he's not injured there's no such thing as uh J thritis you know it's I just don't think this guy has it in him and so he's called him to the mat and the only way to know who's the real champion of this of this eating is to set the stakes to make them very high and to do this on on Netflix broadcast in front of thousands and thousands of people in Las Vegas at the luxer Rob they really did set the stage for a great competition they really did hype this up and make it into some like like I mean I can't imagine that the uh Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is uh particularly glamorous like they really did try to set the stage for like a prize fight and like set it in Vegas and it looked like it looked dark uh it looked like you would imagine like a Netflix show to look like so the presentation was all there they made this feel very important the panel had uh I mean there was Rob Riggle and Nikki Garcia then there were uh then we had like our announcers uh who were here was it Chris Rose and Carrie Champion were announcing we were bringing in guests for the panel so that it was really wall-to-wall coverage for uh unfinished beef right I found out what I was uh cuz at first you're watching it trying to figure out like what exactly is this but I realized what we were looking at when they said okay and to start this whole competition we're gonna start with the band and hit it and they're like Play All I do is win wait I was like wait are we doing this are we doing this for real yeah yeah well how was the marching band that was cool I said okay we actually you know we actually put a lot of effort into this so we went having a March band to some undercard matches you know we saw some some kind of like exhibition and some Olympian show up yeah um so we had yeah it was a full card of competitive eating uh in the undercard uh we had um Matt Stony was here Matt Stony was going to take on not one not two but three us Olympians now again we had our second CBS reality star show up as we had Ryan locky was part of the group with two other Olympians and they were going to take on Matt Stony in a wing eating competition yeah the the one of the one of the former goats I will say in Ryan locky um also Celebrity Big Brother star Ryan locky but then you had these two recent Olympians who who metal Max Irving and Ryan Murphy and so the two the three of them not from American Horror Story I don't not from what I can tell but uh yeah these guys and Olympians both of them are there's a team of them honestly they all medal and so if you think any athlete can take on a competitive eater I don't think you got to look much further than literal Olympic Champions and so they do that so they set it up it's a win eating contest all flats and it's going to be the three of them versus Matt Stony to see who could eat the most in what three minutes and uh it wasn't even close Matt Stony just packed them up three onone it was embarrassing yeah like he dominated them and uh I I just this is when competitive eating loses his luster for me you know the idea of it all of this you know like I said The Fan Fair of it all the staging this all was cool the bright lights it really was a moment but when they actually start the eating Rob that's when I start to kind of Turn away and look went away like like I don't really want to I start texting you know like I I get it y'all to sit here and watch y'all just destroy your mouths with food like it doesn't even look enjoyable it looks like no I don't think it's enjoyable yeah right like like three minutes of torture and for why you know for what I just haven't figured out that part of it if I can like figure out how to enjoy the eating part then uh I think I'd be better off yeah so you would not want to be like in the group of guys who was taking on just one math Stony in three minutes I'm going to enjoy several wings but I'm not eating what did they do they ended up doing 32 amongst the three of them so you know roughly nine 10 10 wings a piece 11 you know somewhere in that range and so I'm like uh I don't want that I don't want that I don't want to do that um just let me have two or three let me let me just you know enjoy my food I like wings I don't I don't want to ruin them because the way Stony was eating them he like ripping them off the flat and then just shoving the meat in his mouth and throwing the bone in a bowl and just that was like rinse and repeat each time yeah it looked I don't know I just don't like food too much to ruin the relationship I have with food you know yeah um the other matchup and it was this was a solo achievement was a woman named Leah Shaker and Leah shaer she already has several uh over well well more than several uh like 30 plus Guinness World Records uh including she holds a World Record for fastest time to drink a leiter of gravy through a straw through a straw she can she can drink a liter of gravy through a straw no problem that's crazy that Lisa kefir from Survivor vanatu could do that that's Lisa kefir that's her name Lisa shiker oh you saying she looked like her yeah no Lisa Keever that's what you said Le Shak Sher yeah yeah Leah Shaker so she was here to set a new world record she's going to uh eat the Guinness World Record for watermelon in I believe in three minutes also I think so I think she had three minutes and we're going to do watermelon by weight I believe um because you can't because watermelon isn't a standard of measurement you know hot dogs I'm assuming these hot dogss are uniform you know they just like bang them out same same length same size all that kind of stuff you know equal girst all that good stuff for them but when it comes to watermelon they have to really go in and cut out wedges of watermelon that were equal in size they weigh it and so she she was trying to do a certain amount of grams of watermelon and um I don't know Chappelle I feel like I mean I'm sure I'm sure I couldn't but like watermelon is nothing I feel like I feel like I could just show up get like a you know you don't think so I mean just showing up and being like okay like I would I would get sick trying to do the hot dogs but watermelon like I like am I going to throw up watermelon okay so I think you could eat the watermelon but I don't think you can eat it as quickly as probably not as as quickly as Leah but like 2000 like if I had to could I eat a whole watermelon in one that's a good question could you eat a whole water put that on the censes put that on the rap I feel like I could watermelon is delicious watermelon is delicious and you cut it you cut up and he's like all right let me have a slice I'll have another one I have another one it goes like it goes quick but regulation size watermelon like what are we talking say when I mean sure I think like if I had to if my life depended on it I feel like I could eat a watermelon but like a watermelon or like like a little watermelon you know that you you know I know no I never tried it but okay um I feel like we have to put this to the test and I'm not saying it a race I I feel like I could do a thousand grams nothing like nothing you think you could eat one water I don't think you could eat more than one watermelon in a day but I don't know if she did she eat more than one watermelon I mean it was 2,000 Grand I think she to say that's at least a watermelon size that's that maybe that's a watermelon yeah yeah yeah I I don't know it's hard because watermelons are all different sizes yeah but that so but you weigh how much watermelon she ate and that was 2,000 grams yeah it says but typical watermelon uh you may find in shops will be around 10 grams that doesn't sound right that doesn't sound right right that doesn't sound right that's cor they they just lying um yeah I don't know we need to get more data on this because I just feel like just assuming you could eat a watermelon in one sitting is wild and assuming that you can eat this in three minutes it just sounds impossible and so this woman Leah Shaka she did something that I definitely didn't think was possible eating all of that in three minutes was I mean it's still it's watermelon so it's easier than obviously hot dogs would be yeah it's still a lot I didn't understand why she finished all of the watermelon and she had like 40 seconds left and they were like okay we have to let the time run down I like but then she's done we just have to sit here for 40 seconds yeah why well what the hell is this they wanted to see if she could do it in three minutes I like okay she did it's like okay what's her exact time it's like well it needs to be three minutes I guess I don't know maybe I don't know I don't know I was very confused by a lot of the uh the the judges we can't turn off the timer well I remember after they were done the woman came in uh with the like like with the little measuring tool and she's looking to make sure like okay for just for Guinness Records we got to make sure there's not there's not enough juice in here to constitute that you haven't actually finished the watermelon did you notice that where they were like measuring the weight of the they take it seriously yeah very and I is Guin Book of World Records a thing still do people they there's a new addition coming out this fall remember when that used to be a thing that used people used to talk about like oh yeah I heard that that's in the world record book or that's the world record I mean that the thing that was like pre- interet pre- Tik Tock like people used to talk about guess Book of World Records now yeah no one talks about it like that's like if the book was the book sto being printed yeah nobody would even know like if there was actually no real book and it's just like an online Excel sheet we would we would know nobody would know we're just assuming that's it's in a record book somewhere let's talk about Joey Chestnut versus kobashi and and the thing that I was super impressed with was uh they started to show like their training regimen like what they need to do and we talked about this a little bit about just like that if they are athletes and the thing about like all these competitive eaters for the most part like they're all in amazing shape like they take this very seriously and you know I think it was Kobe ASI that said you have to train your whole body to do this right it's not all about mouth and throat you know cuz there's so many other parts of your body that go into this like uh like we saw kobashi talking about doing inhaling and exhaling exercises you know just practicing blowing uh like air out of his mouth just because you just need to get those muscles going I think we saw the water training you know he's practicing just swallowing because if you could just guzzle water I guess you can guzzle glizzies and so uh kobashi was showing us each of the I mean we saw both of their trading regiments really tongue stretches abs and and other swallowing exercises a mouth ball with like a medicine ball for his mouth it was nasty it was crazy there was a lot going on freaky freaky frogs these men yeah it was incredible uh just to see what they do in their training regimen to be able to do this um something that I thought was really interesting and I I wish they would have talked about this more because I I think it's um could could give some Intrigue to this there were rule changes to this and with these rule changes that you know both sides like just like with the debates like it's like both sides have to agree to what the ground rules are going to be and you know I think maybe it was kobashi first who was the person who was like taking the hot dogs dunk them in the water and then eat them all in one way in in this competition there was no dunking you could not dunk the hot dog you could take the a bite of the hot dog and then drink your water but you could not submerge the hot dog and bun in the water I did not know why they changed the rule for this and who the rule change helped so I do have questions about this as well so when Joey Chestnut signs this deal with impossible hot dogs does that mean Joey chestnut's now vegan like is he is he off the the meat products now I don't think so and also there was no mention of anybody's sponsorship so well he had the dude WIP shirt on um on like he had the decal for dude wipes on his funny I I I not pay that close attention but yeah dude wipes I do think that like that you know hey after you eat 83 hot dogs trust me dude the number one name in personal hygiene is dude wipes right I saw that but I didn't see anything about impossible so to your point about what you know with Nathan's yeah he didn't show up in like a banner that said impossible hot dogs only uh so I don't know that that does feel a little bit overblown that you pointed out but he did have the one endorsement I saw that um but yeah uh as far as the rule changes I assumed maybe he was eating those impossible hot dogs and so maybe it wasn't fair maybe they don't hit the water like the other hot dogs do I don't know uh but they definitely changed the rules for sure there was a lot of uh little like notes we got we got it's a 10-minute contest most hot dogs eeden wins obviously no separating the hot dogs from the apparently that's another strategy people use to just like dip the actual bread in I guess make it soggy and then eat it and then uh no dunking or pouring the water on the hot dogs either uh and then there were fouls for broken rules and regurgitation which I didn't even think about and then uh they would have 30 seconds to swallow their food after it was done and then they would weigh the scraps Rob and deduct the weight from the actual number of hot dogs if there was enough hot dog byproduct left on that plate plate so it was intense I'm not going to lie to you yeah and then after it was over they also like I I didn't know the rules like got this sophisticated they would then like check the shoes of the people and my kids were watching this like Dad why do they have to look at the shoes I said well they said that sometimes people step on the hot dog yeah people like smash one under their foot so you can't so you count it in the number of hot dogs missing but they didn't necessarily have to eat it I know it got this real in the uh competitive Eden World well and it's especially real between kobashi and Joey chessnut and they sort of documented this a little bit in this setup to this but um they have each other blocked on Instagram yeah Joey ches was talking a little noise I I think he's the culprit here kobashi you know I feel like he was getting kicked while he was down he very uh you know Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim you know um it's a new hotness in town and she's gonna make sure we all know about it and uh I think Joey chesna was kind of on that same energy kind of Co calling Kobe Asia has been uh so you know yeah it it it it wasn't a great look but yeah these people actually got real beef between the two of them I don't think they speak at um at the the entire competition even after icy handshake right and after that there's no like you know not no love loss love between competitors they're not really lovey-dovey about it they do their little handshake and then from there I don't think they make eye contact again yeah so part of this story which I would also love to know more about was that and they touched on this briefly so Joey Chestnut comes along and really becomes the goat becomes the face of Major League eating uh at the end of uh the you know first decade of the 2000s um kobashi does not sign a contract with and I guess there's like an exclusive contract with this Major League eating kobashi refuses to sign a contract how much of kobashi being frozen out is because he doesn't sign the exclusive contract with major league eating you have to keep his free agent status I mean it does sound like it was an issue for sure um you know again more controversi than you would think in the competitive eating world yes but yeah with kobashi out of the way for so many years I feel like you know it's like any other sport if you taking time away from the sport you're not you know competing and keeping yourself sharp You're Gonna Lose a step or two in the meantime and I think that might have been what happened to kobashi in his absence yeah um so I feel like that kobashi was the one pushing for more of these rules to uh get into place because I think that Joey Chestnut and again this is just my sort of like read on the situation Joey Chestnut Nathan's kicks him out of the hot dog eating contest maybe okay Joey chestnut's people are in talks with Netflix okay how do we do Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on Netflix okay what's interesting and also Netflix I I I I forgot to mention in the uh open they they've also done uh they did the tennis uh event of like the one-on-one tennis on Netflix recently uh what was uh the uh the competitors uh it wasn't breakpoint um but they but they they had like a made for Netflix uh tennis event uh that they ended up doing and so they're talking to Joey Chestnut and I think that the only thing that makes sense is can we get kobashi the the only other major name in competitive eating and KOB is probably saying yeah I I'll take on Joey Chestnut but here are my stipulations I'll only do it if you do uh no dunking the no dunking the bond no uh no separating yeah that sounds about right by the end of this we saw that Joey chestn was actually kind of being like hey this no dunking thing isn't half bad you know I thought I might I might do that a few times in my own in my new uh routine when I'm competing in the in the future but yeah I saw an article actually from USA Today a few days ago that was talking about this and apparently yeah they brought the rule change to Joey Chesnut and he actually pushed back he didn't want to uh eliminate the dunking rule but he ended up losing the negotiations so yeah I think you're correct I think that um although is I didn't get any like hard fast statement about um yes if kobashi refused to do whatever um but we did get some information from Joey Chesnut saying that he did push back against it and that he orig wanted to um you know wanted to have the dunking as a part of his thing I guess as his normal strategy but by the end of it it doesn't seem like it would matter okay so we finally get to the main event and they come on out to uh get going Chelle how was it for you watching Joey Chestnut versus kobashi in the actual 10-minute competition I I disassociated it for a little bit you know it was on the screen and I like I was looking at it but I wasn't processing how much because people always talk about you know the way hot dogs have been made historically you know some of the just unsavory things that goes into creating a hot dog and then just see these people just like shoveling them down their throats it just it just didn't you know it just like again I just my body doesn't it just start to reject that kind of energy you know I just I rebuke that I rebuke whatever just happened minutes you know on its surface I feel like this was not my kind of thing but I was not revolted or disgusted in any way watching the uh Hot Dog Eating going down I didn't want to throw up I just couldn't I couldn't watch it you know it's just it felt like like I was looking at something I shouldn't be watching like it was oh this is far too intimate for you know uh prying eyes it felt like okay I shouldn't be here for this let me know how it ends but I did watch the whole thing yeah the guys that they do take it very seriously they're like you know they they they sort of look like they're disassociating uh as they're doing it and they they hold the hot dog with like uh a you know you eat a hot dog normally and it's not like you don't have like a death grip on this thing and they are like uh holding it like they're going to about to like squeeze the life out of it before they just like shove it into their face like and they got signature moves you know Kobayashi apparently there's something called the kobashi Shake I didn't know if he was going to pull that out of his repertoire but the uh the uh analysts were talking about maybe we'll see them pulling out all the stops and so I was very happy to see that they had signature moves again it it start to give me that that very um you know WWE feel you know well it had a real WWE feel because they we had WWE Superstars there uh as part of like we're filling out the hour that we set up that there's going to be a title belt and here comes Rey Mysterio and yeah I was so excited I love both of these wrestlers and so I was very happy to see Omas I had seen them in a long time but I wasn't paying attention when they said Raymond's bringing a belt for the winner so I started that I was like is Ray my the WWE Champion right now that can't be right uh I don't think he is uh but it was happy to I was happy to see them both it did feel like Ry Mysterio is actually never like he doesn't actually know what's going on he's just there because I think at one point they like so your team Joey Chester he's like yeah yeah yeah yeah team Joey like but you don't think Omas was really a kobashi guy yeah look he might have been but I think he he probably was like following the bit a little bit better because I think like Ray was myio came out to give him the belt and kind of like leave yeah and he start to ask him his like his a professional opinion about the competitive eating and he's like I I don't top of this well it's like here we go because uh WWE Monday Night Raw coming to Netflix soon it is yeah a lot of things come into Netflix Netflix is somehow just scooping up these first seasons of shows that they didn't used to have I think swall up like Joey Chestnut yeah um also Joey Chestnut that feels like a competitive eating name you know like like I feel like like that that's a cool ass name I feel like you have to have some type of notable skill with tied to your name if you're Joey Chesnut or or you're a pop singer yeah like Joey Chesnut doesn't doesn't work at the bank you know it just doesn't feel right okay so Chappelle uh there going through it and after one minute Joey chestnut's up 13 to 11 it's like uhoh and he starts pulling away yeah yeah I I was really hoping that this would be more competitive not you know not to take away from the name competitive eating but I really thought it would be a closer race I thought that okay we knew that from the judges that were saying kobashi has to get a faster start his start time is not great historically and so his is his start is going to be indicative of how this will go and it clearly was you know he started off within seconds he was at least one to one and a half hot dogs behind after a minute or so he's about two hot dogs down and then from there he just slowly starts to pull away it was it felt like more like Olympic swimming you know like whereas the person who's out front who's chasing the world record is getting further and further away from the pack and while everybody else is slowing down this person might be speeding up I think there was a lot of that going on I think kobashi might have been losing some steam but Joey chesna was rising to the occasion he he wanted that world record it must be so hard for these guys who are like you know kobashi and again normally it's not like heads up like you're going like oneon-one in these things but it's like okay well what are you hoping for that Joey Chestnut like uh starts choking at some point not not to say anything like morbid but like when he's up by 10 and there's still four minutes left on the clock you're not gonna catch up you know yeah yeah that's true but he just kept going right that's that's the thing it's like yeah he's down by so much like what was uh kobashi going to do like catch his second win and just start like you know shoveling down even more like there's just no way I think you have to maintain the the speed of the race you have to go with the pace that's set and it just got to the point where kobashi was in overed I don't know how seriously he took this uh this bout and this title um because like you said clearly he was the underdog and it wasn't even close uh but he gave it a good a good try I just hope that he doesn't think it tarnishes his career I think he will always be kobashi one of the found of this great sport we have here as far as we're innovators but uh you know a new there's a new King in town on the Mount Rushmore for sure of competitive eaters but not the goat like Joey Chestnut um but this was fun uh I I thought this was uh was pretty good I think uh especially if you're watching it live Were You live or you watched it after oh no I watched it live I I was there I was there live and it was pretty exciting yeah I didn't want to miss nothing you know like even like I said when they bought brought the marching Vans out people had their team Joey team Kobe shirts on I said I didn't even know it got this deep but you know coming from us that are in this like reality TV world every fandom I think can get this deep in certain ways right like if you tell somebody you go we go to live podcast where people cheer while a television show comes on people like what they just they cheer it's a show that comes on it's been coming on for yeah like we yeah we get really hyped for it so although it was kind of odd to see it I was like no I can believe it I I can believe that people go go up like this for competitive edting uh you know every they do this again uh like what would they have to do they would need it would need another like a big name I think that kobashi versus you know random eater I don't think that's gonna go too far because kobashi is the guy um but if you had somebody like some stunt casting you know or like kobashi versus you know these 10 iconic names or the starting five of the Olympic basketball team you know like you could spice it up okay well speaking of spice it up could you do like okay Joe Chestnut is going to take on like a a dozen ghost peppers like no human has ever eaten like could we sort of like Build It Up of like him versus himself as opposed to Joey Chestnut versus like whoever the number two competitive eater is yeah I like that I like that just give him different obstacles and let's see how far he can get to you know how far he can get down this path of can he do these can he do these can he go these 12 people yeah I like to see Jo Joey chesner versus like a college football team you know like who who would win you know the starting five from this this uh Elite Squad The Dream Team you know maybe we bring them in versus you know just different stun casting different obstacles different okay can he eat 12 watermelons hanging upside down who knows let's let's do it I think like there's a whole brand you can build off of Joey chesnut's long career okay and this was a lot of fun shout out to the people over at Netflix not only for putting this on but uh tagging uh me in a tweet about this uh event today yeah how did that happen the word out the word got out it was just like hey thanks Rob sister know I said why are you talking to him leave him alone get a job get away from her hey we should be on the red carpet of the next uh comp big Netflix live event as the faces of Netflix podcasting yes as the nothing but Netflix uh podcast has uh done well over a Year's worth of content I think we've been here for Netflix's Heyday and I think that uh you know this would be a great partnership would you ever go into partnership with Netflix yes yeah absolutely so y'all have it here you heard it here first Netflix you're watching this you know that we're waiting we're waiting all right well Chappelle we are waiting uh for next week because look what snuck back in here next week do you know what I'm going to talk about no what's going on season two Outlast comes to Netflix September 4th we're back baby we are so back yes uh if you were able to watch Outlast last season you know it was a wild show wilder than what we would have considered like it to be just based off of what we saw it got real and we even got to interview the winner of Outlast season one as well it's a very contentious season and now I think Rob there might be even more intrigued because they've seen it done once the game has been played uh they they've started to establish a rule system and now for season two I think we might see more people uh pushing the limits and going uh where other people aren't willing to go to win this money out in the wilderness so I'm very excited to talk about our we got to we got to yes did we have a guest on the Outlast podcast the first time we did it um I am not 100% sure uh I think did Mike Bloom join us to talk about a little bit and then we also talked to Jill also yes we interviewed Mike BL we did Mike Bloom for the first uh three I think two parts I guess I think Mike was the one that was like telling us about it it was really crazy yeah we did like the premiere with Mike then we did a full series recap and then we came back with the interview from Jill and so we covered all corners of Outlast I would love to watch it and talk about it again yeah all right we'll do that coming up in uh just a couple days drops September 4th so uh be sure to be on the lookout for that all right sh what else is coming up for you um just talking about Netflix shows with you talking about Big Brother on rjp here um we're about almost at a halfway point of Big Brother uh 26 you know we're almost in the jury phase and so there's a lot of Big Brother content out there that we're producing here at rjp and so I'm sometimes on the recap episodes I've done a live feed update with Taran so you can catch me here uh you can also catch me here on YouTube uh on Wednesdays live on this very YouTube page talking about below deck with Sasha she's back from her uh trip around the world and so we're gonna be talking about below deck Med as we push toward the end of that season and then on my own YouTube page recap Kickback uh you got weekly coverage of belir season 3 with me and puya and then uh other weekly podcast with Mari and myself as we talk about different black shows and uh different uh very popular TV shows as well um that uh you know whatever sticks out to us music culture all that good stuff we're talking about our recap kickback can go to youtube.com/ recap Kickback to uh join the YouTube Community to subscribe to the podcast and then of course uh subscribe recap kickback.com subscribe and follow on social media at recap Kickback on all social media platforms okay uh Tuesday night this week Shel and I will be back with the slop as
