THE PISCATAQUA RIVER BRIDGE ON INTERSTATE 95 HAS JUST REOPENED AFTER BEING SHUT DOWN FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THE CLOSURE HAPPENED AFTER AN INCIDENT THAT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE SAYS IS CONNECTED TO THE DEATHS OF A WOMAN AND A CHILD. WE DO HAVE SOME VIDEO FROM ABOUT A HALF HOUR AGO OF A CAR BEING TOWED OFF OF THE BRIDGE, SHORTLY BEFORE IT REOPENED. AUTHORITIES SAY THAT A MAN WAS KILLED THERE IN AN OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING EARLY THIS MORNING. OUR CREW ON THE SCENE HEARD GUNSHOTS CTS COMING FROM THE BRE AT AROUND 450. THIS MORNING. WE WANT TO GET RIGHT OUT. LIVE TO WMUR RAY BREWER, WHO'S BEEN IN PORTSMOUTH SINCE EARLY THIS MORNING TO GIVE US AN UPDATE ON WHAT'S HAPPENING THERE RIGHT NOW. RAY. JEANNE. AND TAKE A LIVE LOOK HERE AT THE BRIDGE, AND YOU CAN SEE, AS YOU MENTIONED, IT HAS NOW REOPENED. TRAFFIC IS FLOWING OVER IT, BUT THERE'S STILL QUITE A FEW BACKUPS IN AND AROUND PORTSMOUTH. NOW, ACCORDING TO THE NEW HAMPSHIRE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE, THIS BEGAN IN TROY, WHERE A MAN KILLED A WOMAN AT A HOME ON MONADNOCK STREET IN TROY AND THEN HEADED EAST, EVENTUALLY GETTING INTO A CONFRONTATION WITH POLICE ON THE PISCATAQUA RIVER BRIDGE EARLY THIS MORNING. NOW, WE DID HEAR THE GUNSHOTS AT ABOUT 450 THIS MORNING. THE SUSPECT IN THE MURDER CASE WAS SHOT DEAD BY POLICE. THE MAINE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE NOW INVESTIGATING THAT OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING. WE DO HAVE THE VIDEO OF SOME OFFICERS EARLIER THIS MORNING INVESTIGATING THE CRIME SCENE. NOW, AS THEY WERE INVESTIGATING, POLICE ALSO HAD A GRIM DISCOVERY. THEY FOUND AN EIGHT YEAR OLD CHILD FATALLY SHOT IN THE SUSPECT'S VEHICLE. THE EXACT CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THAT, THOUGH, REMAIN UNDER INVESTIGATION. AS YOU TAKE A LIVE LOOK NOW AT THE SARAH LONG BRIDGE. THIS WAS ONE OF THE MAIN BRIDGES WHERE THE TRAFFIC WAS BEING DIVERTED. YOU CAN SEE IT'S STILL BACKED UP AND IT'S GOING TO BE A WHILE BEFORE THE TRAFFIC IS BACK TO NORMAL IN THIS AREA. AND OF COURSE, THIS COMES ON THE HEELS AS WE'RE APPROACHING THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. NOW, AT THIS POINT, WE DO NOT KNOW THE NATURE OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE MAN AND WOMAN AND CHILD. WE HOPE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THAT IN THE COMING DAYS. ABOUT 70,000 DRIVERS TYPICALLY GO OVER THAT BRIDGE IN A DAY, AND IT'S BEEN CLOSED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. SO WE'RE SEEING A LOT OF PROBLEMS IN AND AND AROUND THAT AREA. SO JUST BE AWARE OF THAT. IF YOU CAN AVOID THIS AREA AROUND THE PISCATAQUA BRIDGE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS, YOU MIGHT WANT TO DO THAT JUST BECAUSE WE ARE SEEING A LOT OF BACKUPS IN AND AROUND THE BRIDGE, WHICH NOW HAS REOPENED THAT RESIDUAL TRAFFIC EXPECTED TO LAST A WHILE AS MANY PEOPLE KICK OFF THEIR LABOR DAY TRAVEL PLANS.
